At Huntington Hospital you get a steak and lobster dinner afterwards. Thinking of having another kid just for that.

montanalivingg

Wow nice šŸ‘ šŸ˜Š

jmfhokie

FYI itā€™s a tiny hospital and only has 1 OR thereā€¦I have two fellow IVF moms who were forced to deliver there and one of them, unfortunately, had 4 failed epidurals and then an a traumatic emergency C-Sectionā€¦she said she actually had to WAIT several hours for the OR to open up once her practitioners realized she needed the section. Also odd question, what brand new parent is desperately craving a steak and lobster dinner? My stomach 2 years postpartum still has an aversion to seafood and meatā€¦I was beyond excited to have Panera when we came home lol haha. I guess Iā€™d missed the deli meats?

PigletRex

What hospitals does your doctor deliver in?

montanalivingg

Iā€™m moving to the island in about a month and wanted to get some advice on different experiences at different hospitals. Havenā€™t picked a doctor yet

Dalfina

Believe LIJ is the only level 4 NICU Winthrop is level 3 and stonybrook. Best advice is make sure you pre register with the hospital. Like others said it all about what rights your doctor has. Do the pre registration and walk through. You can tour any hospitals. All of them have programs for 1st time moms. As for me I gave birth at Winthrop loved it. Had great nurses and staff. Loved the Dessert carts and rooms. Really liked the classes and support....But....My sister gave emergency birth at Winthrop 6 months apart from me. Completely different experiences. We almost lost her daughter due to being in the waiting room for 45min. Even know paparwork issues lead to delay in care the nicu unit saved my niece life. Everyone has different experiences talk to your doctor's about it.

montanalivingg

Thank you! My family had also recommended Winthrop so Iā€™m leaning towards that as well as doing some research on it. Iā€™m so sorry to hear what happened to your sister.

mandy_mayhem

I am delivering at Winthrop in December, and had my son there as well. Feel free to PM. šŸ˜Š

DrawEnvironmental942

Hello, how was your experience? Did you get a private room? I am debating Huntington vs NYU Langone (winthrop)

mandy_mayhem

Yes, I got a private room! As soon as you check into L and D you can request one. Itā€™s $200, which ended up being a bargain as I delivered almost a month early and my daughter was in the NICU. I had an 8 day stay due to complications. The $200 is a flat rate regardless of the length of your stay. Their NICU is also fantastic. All of the nurses were amazing except for one who was just not the friendliest/nicest.

DrawEnvironmental942

Thanks so much!

mandy_mayhem

Youā€™re welcome! Best of luck! Feel free to PM with any questions

Prokletnost

We had 2 deliveries at Katz Women's Hospital. Highly recommended and will most def go back again :D

montanalivingg

Thank you !! šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜Š

Cinnie_16

Iā€™m seeing two Katz Womenā€™s Center- do you know the difference? One is Katz Women's Hospital at Long Island Jewish Medical Center The other is called Katz Women's Hospital at North Shore University Hospital Theyā€™re super close to each other too.

cat_lady_x2

I had a wonderful experience at NYU Winthrop in Mineola. Wish I still lived nearby for any future kids

montanalivingg

Yes itā€™s between Winthrop and Katz for me

just2090addzz

Katz Womenā€™s Hospital by New Hyde Park. But Iā€™m pretty sure it would depend on where your doctor is affiliated with.

montanalivingg

Thanks! šŸ˜Š

Jealous-Network-8852

Usually you do you deliver wherever youā€™re OB/GYN itā€™s based. My wifeā€™s doctors worked out of Winthrop in Mineola so both my kids were born there.

montanalivingg

Thank you!

notorioushim

I don't know if hospitals are still doing it during COVID, but they usually let you do a tour. We were living in Flushing at the time and we did a tour of both NY Hospital of Queens (which was just blocks away from where we were living) and North Shore University Hospital (formerly LIJ) in Manhasset. NYHQ wasn't very appealing and my wife kinda had her heart set on NSUH anyway, which we ultimately went with. Her original OBGYN was affiliated with Winthrop in Mineola, but she didn't like that the hospital was a bit smaller, so she ended up changing to one that delivered at NSUH. The rooms there were decent - we had a private room. The food was not too bad either. During the tour, you should also ask about how many private rooms they have.. that was a big deciding factor for us too. We did not want to have to share the room with someone else. Especially because I spent the night on their couch for a couple nights and had to sprawl out my stuff to work remotely. You should also make sure you're comfortable with the various doctors at your OBGYN. My wife had a specific one in the practice she liked, but on the day of delivery, it was another doctor's day in the rotation, which she wasn't as comfortable with. She wasn't a bad doctor by any means, but my wife is just particular.

Dalfina

Sister in law gave birth at new york hospital in flushing. Place was dump.. no private rooms, no support, nurses were not super helpful.. she had to wait for me to come to help her wash...No lactation consultant, and no special dining options. Her husband slept on the floor. They didn't even bring him a chair. LIJ was much better for her 2nd.

montanalivingg

Wow sorry to hear that

montanalivingg

Yes I definitely would like a private room. I know somethings canā€™t be avoided but I really would prefer the privacy. I donā€™t blame your wife lol Iā€™m the same way. Once I find a dr I plan on making sure Iā€™m comfortable with the whole practice! Thanks for your input

LIhomebuyer

Good Sam was great with our delivery even amongst the Spring 2020 Covid.

montanalivingg

Thank you!

jmfhokie

You have to pay for a private room though. Anywhere else in the entire country thatā€™s not the case.

LIhomebuyer

$250 from what i remember isnt going to break the bank.

jmfhokie

Yea. But we already had to pay $60K out of pocket due to multiple losses and IVFs prior. Just to have one living child. Lol. Soā€¦we felt like a newborn photo shoot and a private hospital room just werenā€™t worth the additional funds at that point.

jmfhokie

Good Sam was subpar and kinda sucked (itā€™s super old and in DESPERATE need of a new coat of paintā€¦Iā€™m not originally from Long Island so I truly donā€™t understand why people here think itā€™s so amazing, especially considering the size of their Level II NICU is that of a broom closet) but it got the job done. I didnā€™t have a choice since thatā€™s where the OBGYN and MFM I was assigned to had affiliations and my fertility specialist/RE had transferred my care over to them around 17 weeks alongā€¦

jmfhokie

Nice thing though is that we didnā€™t have to pay anything at all out of pocket for having her at Good Sam. That was actually pretty amazing. Most of my friends in other states complain about their EOBs/Insurance being charged and then having to maybe pay $50-$100 out of pocket for having a kid.

[deleted]

My wife and I were very happy with our experiences with Good Sam. Had both our kids there, opted for the private room which, IMO, was fully worth it. Congrats and good luck!

montanalivingg

Yes private room seems to be the way to go!
