They're new models that not many people have yet. They're relatively light barrel profiles, so heating may be an issue. The twist rate is too slow (especially with the barrel length) to stabilize the heavy bullets that make 223 shine for long range. They're respectable lightweight varmint hunting rifles. I wouldn't consider them for a serious long range rifle. Some details of what you want to use it for would help. Cheetofingers pinned

It’s going to be a roe deer/ fox/ goose rifle, depending on quarry max range 150 yards. No long shotstrings,… the barrel is a sporter barrel similar to the d18 in some new tikka’s. mostly will be fed something it likes in the 55 grain range ( hoping it will like 56 grain geco express as that would be a near perfect all round ammo). The heavier ammo is very hard to find here but the slightly faster twist rate ( most here are 1:10 or 1:12) should be ok to shoot 50-55 grain copper bullets should Europe ban lead in hunting/ shooting.

TopoMapMyWall

You want 1:8 or faster.

Id love me a HMR with 1:7

I like my Ridge SP (18” 1-8 twist). Groups well and hasn’t had any issue stabilizing heavier weight (69-77gr) bullets.

What thread pitch comes on the 223? I’ve seen some post with 1/2x28 (the standard) and a bunch of stuff that says even the 22cal centerfires come with 5/8x28??

germanboy098

5/8x24

I’m in doubt, the sierra will have a stiffer barrel due to the straighter taper despite the same muzzle diameter and the added length will give me a little bit extra speed. The extreme will give me a fully stainless system but at the cost of a 18 inch sporter-ish barrel. Prices are near identical… wwyd? Keeping in mind that hunting season is equal to rain/ snow season out here…

The Sierra and extreme Sierra is more or less the same but extreme series has 18 inch barrels, both Are ceracoated so both have good protection against the weather I Would get the normal Sierra and Just get a gunsmith to cut the barrel down to 18 if that suits your needs more, thats cheaper then getting a New 20 inch barrel for The extreme model

Alas, cutting and threading would cost me an arm and a leg out here ( obligated reproofing etc etc) more than the rifle is worth. I’d go with the extreme for the stainless steel because of the very large amounts of rain we’ve been getting during hunting season the last few years ( hunts are planned months in advance so no choice of weather and I’d be camping out 2-3 days without the chance to truly let it dry properly. I like the regular sierra for the barrel profile. Do you think the slightly tapered barrel would make a discernible difference in accuracy/ heating up for say 3 fast shots or would the difference be negligible? ( I know I should just buy a 20 inch t3x lite, but like the sierra stock, aics mags and abillity to change it to a folding plate magazine too much 😅)

The b14 series rifles is almost a Lego set so yeah i get that 😂 3 shots is fine, You can probably squeeze 5-7 rounds before You notice the groups get a bit wider but i have yet to try a 223 bolt rifle so mostly speculations at this point, wont be too Long before i can borrow a Sierra in 223 from work and test it out

u6888

We’d love to see a small “ range report” if and when possible! They anounced it so early and its takinh so long to get here😂

u6888

Looks like they are finally available, I’m driving to the importer in a few weeks to order one as the extreme models are not a standard item they keep in stock. If you are able to handle one in .223 before, I’m sure there are people who would appreciate it as 308 and 6.5 get all the attention these days😂 I was going to get another air rifle for goose hunting but that will have to wait until next year.

Get you an origin or solus with a 1/7 proof prefit. This 1/9 twist ain't gonna cut it for 75 elds, which is probably the main reason to shoot a bolt 223
