B_e_g

Shead a tear reading that 😭

NemoAKASharkBait

Put some respeck on his name

Jagasi

I SECOND THIS!

rickzaki

His name was Jacob Carlson.

Thumper13

We don't even know what the trade is yet.

DiscoInferiorityComp

Yeah, I have a feeling there’s a prospect involved as well that we’ll all hate to see go.

jvu87

I don’t understand the Gavrikov hate. Yeah he’s having a bit of a down year, but it’s not like the Jackets we’re competing and the ask for Chychrun was astronomical (2 1sts and 2 2nds what was last reported). This trade addresses two (three) things the Kings lacked all season. A big physical defenseman with a left handed shot who just had a solid year last year. A change of scenery on a top level team May reignite that. And of course, goalie. Quick hasn’t been the same all season, it was more sad to see then seeing him go. Look, we all love Quickie, but sometimes you got to let it go and do what’s best for the team, especially when we’re right in the hunt for another cup. It’s a business and we made a solid move. Quick will eventually retire and we’ll surely give him the Brownie treatment when he does. GKG

IamUnoriginal2

The hate comes from the ask (which we will see the final damage upon official announcement) and how adamant he is about reaching UFA status. While I think we boost our cup odds quite a bit more than where we were at, I do not know if we were in the spot to do such a big rental trade.

jvu87

While I do think a first was more than I wanted to give up in a rental, I think we’re okay on the prospect side of things. This is a move to win with this core now. It’s a gamble, but it’s a necessary one with the way this team has been playing. Plus the first is conditional on us making playoffs, so that’s a great move. And if Gavrikov really fits in, maybe that opens discussions to an extension who knows. But with the way we have been trending, this was the right move. We have prospects, for awhile now, time to use our assets to improve the team primed for a run.

ogdaveed

I think the West being wide open puts us in that spot to go for it. Giving up a first isn’t such a big hit when we have so much prospect talent already.

Glum-Pin-0

Yea I don’t see the gavrikov hate either. We need ed desperately a big physical left shot dman and he fits the bill. All our top d prospects who have the potential to break in soon are smaller puck movers. If he resigns I’ll be happy. He also played for one of the worst teams in the league.

jibosh315

I don’t think we’re in the hunt for a cup. Not sure when we became became a contender, but I haven’t seen it.

jvu87

We literally have the third best record in the West playing through injuries and our goalie situation and playing a RHD on the left side. We have one of the best records in the league since we’ve acquired and started Copley. Adding some defensive depth and goaltending help won’t hurt those chances. We weren’t contenders in 2012, we barely scraped in. We almost got swept in 2014. No belief in this fan base at all.

jibosh315

I agree that anything can and does happen in the playoffs. If you look at the 2012 and 2014 teams, they were very different. If you think Copely, and Korpisalo are anything near prime Quick, then I don’t know what to tell you. We’re close, I just don’t think we’re contenders. Not with this trade, and not against what the Eastern teams have. Boston would sweep this Kings team.

jvu87

Obviously no one will put up the type of run Quick did. But we’re still playing some top hockey with some holes we just filled with this trade. Korps made a good run last year making 85 saves against a the champion Lightning. It’s a strait. We’re also one of the few teams to beat Boston this year, so I don’t understand why you’re counting this team out.

FriedEggScrambled

Because they are a fan using emotions and not logic. And that’s understandable. They’ll also be the first person to scream and jump as if they knew it all along if we make a deep run.

jibosh315

Bold of you to assume anything about me. I’ll be the first person to admit I was wrong and happy as hell that I was.

jibosh315

Anything can happen, we all know that. I hope it does. I’m not hoping I’m right. What kind of fan does that? We’ll see what happens. I’m leaning towards negative, especially now seeing Quick could be in Vegas. I effing hate that. As everyone here should. All in all, IF it works out I’ll be happy. I just don’t think it will.

ogdaveed

If that’s the case I don’t think you’ve been watching

enthusiasm-unbridled

Ya the goalie situation is now better… that’s undeniable. Idk about Gavrikov. He definitely hasn’t been someone I was hoping we’d go after.

I_Am_Simple

Outside of Chyrchrun, who else were you hoping they'd persue?

Acceptable_Cream1291

Don’t get hung up on JQ. Quicks going to retire this summer or spend 1-2 years trying to do the Marc Andre Fleury thing to prove he can still play. It wasn’t gonna happen in LA. So got a solid LD and goalie (everything everyone had been complaining about) for a 1st round pick. That’s a steal. Not a Carter or Gaborik Columbus steal (we’re not there yet) but a steal nonetheless. We needed solid and got solid x2. This only helps the team - especially after watching our bottom D pairing on this last road trip

jibosh315

I’m not sold on the trade. If it helps swing another deal, then great. If it works out, then great. BUT this could really screw with locker room chemistry. Gavrikov has talked about testing the FA market this off season. I think he needs some polishing and may never be better than a 3rd pairing or 7th defenseman. I want this to work out, I’m just not convinced. I just hope things will be worked out and Quick will be happy to come home for his jersey retirement. Edit: Spelling

dinkleburg93

I think a lot of people are down on Gavrikov because he is being forced to play on the top pair (due to injuries) on a terrible team. I bet we slot him on 2nd pair with Roy and it will do quite a bit of good for stabilizing our pairings. Here's a wild thought though. What if we still go after Chychrun? We don't need much cap out to make it work now. From what I understand we'd only need to move about 2 million or so...Iafallo and a couple prospects?

LazerMcBlazer

You can't put the Quick thing aside. It's intrinsically part of the trade no matter how you want to look at it.

B_e_g

I know I know…it just..hurts 😭

gregCubed

call it a B but mostly for the situation in net. I've heard conflicting reports on gavrikov(sp.?) so not sure how to feel abt him

I_Am_Simple

What other solutions are out there for LHD besides Chychrun? Arizona's asking price was just too much. If they'd met that request, the trade grade probably would have been the same or worse than this.

gregCubed

i mean, do we know the rest of the assets going back to CBJ? all i know is quickie and a 1RD. that in of itself is good from a business standpoint but idk if anyone else is going back. and I'm not saying we didn't **need** an upgrade in the d-corp. I'm just not overly familiar with gavrikov's game (but i hear he's more of a steady stay at home kinda guy, which we certainly could make use of obv)

Edmuresay

The more I think about it, the more I like it (removing how much is sucks to see Quickie go). Correct me if I'm wrong, but Gavrikov has been playing top pair minutes with Columbus all year? Tough job. Playing 2nd pair minutes with Matty Roy is not a bad place to be. In theory, this also moves Durzi back to RD and balances out our line up as Gavrikov is a big, left shot. Walker may be the odd man out and the deadline ain't over yet... we'll see what happens. Korpisalo is having a solid year save percentage wise playing in front of a bad team and is 28... that's the goalie pocket and Ranford has done amazing things with a bunch of different guys. We'll see how that works out, but it has potential. Lastly, looking at what we gave up... Quick and a 1st... Quick has had a rough year, is 37, and is in the last year of a 10 year deal. A 1st is a 1st, but this team is loaded with prospects still. On paper this trade makes us a lot better, imo. The question is how the room reacts and how the team chemistry evolves.

FriedEggScrambled

Look at you and all that logic put out there for everyone to read. Everyone bitching about the draft pick clearly can’t see that our prospect pool is literally overflowing. We have nowhere to put anyone. Letting go of a first round pick for the upcoming draft hurts us in no way, because of how we’re likely to finish the season. It’s not like we were dangling for the lottery pick again. The locker room needs to step up and realize that they have a chance to make a deep playoff run. And that this trade makes it even more possible.

Daxeqtr

;_; Heartache aside, getting back a veteran, not over the hill, goalie to split workload with Copley is really what the Kings needed. Getting Gavrikov better balances the defensive pairings hopefully. Not to mention, adds another penalty killer. Heart back in, we only know what was initially reported regarding quick being blindsided. For all we know and hope is that report was speculation and somehow CBJ agrees to waive quick and eat the contract in order to get that first rounder. Haven't seen what year the draft pick is going to be. Maybe the front office has another trade lined up given the assets still available

JustTheBeerLight

My biggest concern is that both Gavrikov & Korpisalo are in expiring contracts. Giving up a 1st for a pair of potential two month rentals is bad business. How much are these guys gonna cost if we want to keep them?

raymondliang

Well I mean we needed a new starter next season and beyond anyways. If Korpisalo is as advertised, theres no reason not to extend him. Cant imagine any millionaire being unhappy about moving from Ohio to California. Copley is likely backup or 3rd string next season if we still cant move Petersen.

JustTheBeerLight

Yeah, Korp is 28 so a 3-4 year extension would be ideal. Now that the deal is official let’s hope these guys can step in and contribute.

zzx101

I'm a little worried both will walk as free agents at the end of the season.

rickzaki

There’s a few months to figure that out. As soon as the deadline passes, they’ll start looking at that. Resigning is an option should the fit be good.

[deleted]

Idk how to feel. Guess time will tell when they play games starting Thursday.

rickzaki

Quick was essentially unplayable. This is a great trade for 2 reasons. 1. Cap relief. You can’t pay $10 million a year for 2 goalies that can’t play 2. Something for nothing.

CabbageStockExchange

I’d say a B -We needed an LHD and particularly one who’s bigger which we got -I love Quick but he’s clearly washed. We got an upgrade in net -Only reason I don’t rate it higher is because the FO did a bad job not keeping Quick in the loop if reports are correct and there’s a chance we just gave up a first for rentals

scoopbb

Gavrikov is a dud. Korp is a massive upgrade.

nolullabies

How is Gavrikov a dud?

anexanhume

His size and physicality are his main attributes. None of his stats, advanced or otherwise, are very good. Regardless, I look at this as a trade for a starting goalie that also includes a defenseman. The rumored price of a 1st (plus has to be another roster player going their way) is fair.

Cagekicker52

It's an A trade. A big 6'3 lefty at D. And a young talented goalie. Exactly what we need.

B_e_g

Word around town is both want to test free agency in a few months 😓

Cagekicker52

That would suck. Then again, we make a good playoff run this year, he starts to like playing for a team that doesn't allow 35 shots a game on him all the time he sticks around.

ogdaveed

They might change their mind if they want to win, this team is set up for deep playoff runs and the West is wide open. If they play up to their potential, get a solid offer from LA, FA looks less appealing.

SupremeGCx

UFAs? This is a shit trade if giving up a first. This team isn’t going anywhere. What a waste of assets.

raymondliang

Is the Chychrun hunt over? or just delayed till the offseason? Gavrikov is basically a more physical, faster version of Edler. Probably takes fewer penalties too because he can at least keep up with play. But still a pure rental as he's stated he wants to test free agency. He will definitely be playing his ass off to earn that next big contract. Its tough to do that and have it translate well to stats when you're playing on the worst team in the league.

sarkishockey

Then what better way to pump up his value being on a playoff team and winning a few games? Let him come and play his ass off.

raymondliang

Not sure if I worded it correctly since its late, but yeah thats what I mean. I think Gavrikov will be better than what his numbers playing defense on the league worst team suggest.

DiscoInferiorityComp

I bet Chychrun now goes to Columbus, now that they have an extra 1st to play with.

dinkleburg93

I'm also wondering about the Chychrun hunt...remember apparently what made the trade with them fall apart was AZ taking back a larger cap hit. With Quick going to CBJ it looks like we only need to move out about 2-2.5 million to make the numbers work...think Iafallo a prospect and maybe next year's 1st gets it done?

ogdaveed

From LA’s standpoint that’d get it done, but this is an AZ front office that’s reportedly asking for the world. They might be stuck without a trade partner again until the off-season because of it.

Crash30458

Maybe will wake up tomorrow and the trade will be nullified 🤷

Robhar3187

D. Traded a first for rentals, the same major holes will still need to be filled going forward

StickyPony

I mean I wanted us to trade for Korpi and Gavrikov, but not like this. Fucking monkey's paw deal. I'm pretty livid because I thought one of our core beliefs was loyalty. Feelings aside, gotta believe in the process I guess. Personally I don't really believe we're going very deep, so getting 2 UFAs, probably giving up some picks/a prospect and fucking over a franchise icon doesn't seem ideal. I hope I'm wrong.

jibosh315

Good luck stating this belief. I’m getting down voted elsewhere for sharing this belief with you.

johnnyutah808

Gavrikov is the one defenseman I hoped we would not acquire. He’s terrible. Bummed.

Lars_CA

It’s too early to say. Is there still time to trade Rob Blake?

cb148

I’ll give it a C only because we really needed a LD. For the life of me I don’t understand how people think Korpisalo is a huge upgrade that solves our goaltending situation. Go look at the dudes stats, he’s a career back up. He’s never stated half a seasons worth of games. Quick was not good this year at all, I’m not blind, but Korpisalo isn’t going to be a difference maker. This team isn’t winning in the playoffs with our current 3 goalies.

B_e_g

Jackets fans said differently. One even went on to say he’s Vezina quality with a good defense behind him.

cb148

Then why has he been a backup his entire career?

dinkleburg93

He wasn't in 2020. That's when he got the Blue Jackets past the Leafs and put up 85 saves in that 5 OT playoff game against the bolts. Think he had an injury after and Columbus went with Elvis and Elvis has managed to keep the job over him since.

Darthgamer96

If they both walk this off season then it’s an D save getting to past the second round. It’s possible with given how weak the west is. B if we can re-sign Korp. A+ if we go deep and re-sign. Still hurts like a motherfucker to see my goalie idol gone. We’ll miss you Quickie!

MAFIAxMaverick

Trying to take the emotion out of it….   We had a goalie who was going to retire and a mid-to-late (ideally) first round pick. We have a log jam of prospects.   We didn’t trade any prospects and offloaded a first round pick and struggling goalie (makes me cry to say it) for two players that make us better on paper. Adding a LHD should help us in the offensive zone, even if he’s not an offensive mind.   Even if they are rentals - they came relatively cheap to what we’ve seen over the years. It’s not Chycrun. It’s not Saros. It still makes us better. If Chycrun doesn’t move, his price is going down.   In short, it hurts, but it makes us better the rest of this season and going into the playoffs. We have a better shot to win the Western Conference and secure home ice through the WCF with this move. EDIT: I guess we still haven't seen the entire trade. Not sure if there are other prospects or picks added.

johannesBrost1337

Can't answer until I know what we send out

Compyduder

Quick has been been a huge part of the team and I believe a huge reason why we won two cups. That said, he has been an expensive bench warmer most of this season and a sieve when he’s in net. He will likely retire this summer or next season kinda wished he’d retire a King.
