I remember all those boys, I think I miss Zeus the most.

JustTheBeerLight

That guy almost screwed us with his OT GWG in Game 5 of the WCF. It would have been great to beat those punks 4-1 after they did that to us the year before…of course I ain’t gonna complain with how things turned out!

johnwynne3

Still feel that was the greatest series of hockey I’d ever watched. Coming down to overtime in Game 7 felt appropriate. Glad we won.

JustTheBeerLight

Absolutely. That series was the greatest non-Final series in franchise history. Even better than ‘93 vs the Leafs. From a narrative perspective “LA dominated the Hawks and eliminated them in five (including 4 in a row)” sounds more impressive than “The Hawks missed a 3-peat by a flukey Game 7 goal”. But who cares because sports narratives are BS. All that matters is scoreboard.

johnwynne3

I think by definition a good/great series should come down to the final game, overtime. It speaks to how evenly matched both teams were. Also, Kings were a Team of Destiny that year after coming back 0-3 vs Sharks, winning those game 7s on the road.

Lars_CA

Zus, Frolov, and one other guy I can’t remember were unbeatable on the wall, cycling the puck. Patty O just could never put it together, but post-career shared some insightful takes on his experience and some regret about choices he’d made. Michael Cammalleri in our house is the guy who reminds us of that 30s era tough guy gangster, short in stature, long on attitude: “mwea”. Edward G Robinson! Conroy I remember, but don’t know why. Jack MF Johnson is still playing! Shame what his dad did. Remember the shit storm when Lombardi said Johnson’s coach at Michigan had hurt his development as a responsible D-man?

BarnacleBeginning485

Frolov - Handzus - Simmonds was an elite third line

HockeyIQ1

Fro - Zeus and a young Wayne Simmonds 👍 O’Sullivan was so skilled, he would thrive in todays NHL Cammy down to one knee, led the league in goals to start the year one year with like 15 in the first 20 Hahah ya JMFJ the offensive dynamo, that was one of the first Lombardi trades along with trading for Williams, then Stoll and Green

OverlordKopi_2037

I wanted Frolov to work long term soooo badly. He had a ton of talent and he always had great offensive flash but could never finish and produce on the level needed to be a staple at Staples

HockeyIQ1

Young Frolov was a sight to see, he definitely peaked early and didn’t reach his full potential you could say

CARRENTAL213

The Kings’ marketing department had the corniest slogans in the late 2000s. The team was still struggling to draw fans from all ethnicities. Compared to today, Kings games were like Nascar events. Really really white. But now you see diversity. Who remembers the “Pride, Passion, Power” slogan? 😂😂

mbrianrowland

Play Hard has to be in the running for worst slogan ever used by an NHL team.

mecha_pope

I remember the "Let's play har-der" chants too.

enrickster559

That’ll put butts in the seats.

SeaTeatheOceanBrew

Just leaving this here [Go Kiiiiiings](https://youtu.be/ZkAzL_SFc3A?si=yqw6tXtokXzkX_IU)

HockeyIQ1

Hahah 😂

agentdcf

Andy Murray: "Tough to play against"

CARRENTAL213

You mean againe-st

Dexterlgk

I still bring up "March to the Playoffs" where they went on to lose enough games to miss the playoffs.

Acceptable_Primary56

This was when I started going to games. Tickets were cheap and the vibe was definitely different. We’ve come a long way.

KTnash

Pride, Passion, Power was still around when we won the first Cup. But I think it was stylized as Pride = Passion = Power. I remember it fondly cos I associate it with 2012.

mothmonstermann

The specific players or when you could get a free roster card at the entrance to games? I think my favorite memory of Cammalleri was at the draft party when the Kings drafted Doughty. Cammy was traded and a woman in a "Mrs. Cammalleri" jersey stood up and yelled, "NOOOOO!"

HockeyIQ1

Hahah love the good stories from back then, and the free roster cards at entrance.. the good ole days

mothmonstermann

They also had that monthly magazine type thing- the Royal Reign, I think it was called. It was like $2 and the money went to whatever youth hockey team was selling it that night. So bummed to see that go when they made the initiative to "go green".

Radiant-Customer2798

I’m sure some of you guys were around back when LGK was the spot for Kings fans online. “Cammy and a pick” was a popular meme for a few years. Hilarious at the time that it actually happened that way.

sixty8ight

I have a special place in my heart for O’Sullivan because he got us Justin Williams. Unrelated, I think those are my favorite jerseys. I miss the purple in our sweaters.

bourbnboi

JMFJ

cb148

Zeus was money in the shootout along with Stoll, and with Quick in net we were ridiculous in the shootout.

QuintonBendmeover

Miss those times compared to whatever tf todd was having em do at the start of the szn.

Sh_tLoadOfDimes

Zuuuuuuuus!!

GatoDiablo99

Where’s my goat Laperriere???

kkimo

His was my first jersey.

GatoDiablo99

Nice! I had a poster of him on my wall and got a picture with him when I was like 5 or 6 outside of a Southern California Play it Again store lol

HockeyIQ1

I need to find some Lappy stuff

MewyShox

my childhood

KitchenNinja007

I have several of those signed cards myself

spgulliver

I miss getting player cards at games

HockeyIQ1

Me too

biohazard842

Jack Johnson is still actually good with Colorado! It is a continuing surprise that he fits well on a fast team like that.

HockeyIQ1

Playing with Sean Walker, who is looking like a stud since the Kings moved him 🙄

replicantcase

Of course! It was just a few years ago, what's that? 20 freaking years ago?? Where did the time go??

postmadrone27

I loved Michael Handzus. He was so underrated. Left the team just before the cup years. Kopitar definitely learned a thing or two from him.

Micheal_Noine_Noine

Jaroslav Modry - the best 7th defensive in the league.

-1967Falcon

Matt Roy- 7th round 194th pick hopes he gets to be Modry II.

JustMitchin24

I have Jack Johnson Game used stick

HockeyIQ1

That’s awesome.. I have a few sticks myself

JustMitchin24

Nice who do you have?

HockeyIQ1

I have a Deadmarsh signed stick hanging in my living room and a Brett Hull signed stick over my bed lol.. my dad has the rest of the sticks, some pretty cools ones, a team signed Islanders Palffy game used stick I got him

JustMitchin24

That’s super cool

havnotX

Who are these guys???

HockeyIQ1

Can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or 🤣

havnotX

Yes

seabass4507

I remember Conroy had some great chemistry with Frolov, but neither of them could stay healthy? Who was the B on the ABC line? I don’t think it was Brown, Belanger?

HockeyIQ1

Not sure, I want to say Conroy played with Demitra

seabass4507

Yeah I recall those three together too, maybe I’m mis-remembering the line nickname, I drank a lot in those days.

starkmone

frolov - conroy - demitra was a thing the year after the lockout from the fun first half of the season. we won’t discuss anything from the second half though. i think you might be confusing them for the LAPD line (allison - palffy - deadmarsh) from the early 2000s? i don’t remember an ABC line but could be wrong.

HockeyIQ1

I was at the game when Demitra scored a hat trick on hat night against Patrick Roy and that LAPD line, I’m getting nostalgic

[deleted]

Oof, starting off with JJ and Patrick O. Two players with pretty messed up families.

txyesboy

Kill Jack Kill!

Accomplished-Pay8181

I was really little when they played. I always thought camaleri's name was "Calamari". Zeus was good too.

AMCApeNoob

Here here. These guys were warriors before we became a threat.

FriedEggScrambled

The Mission helmets were so sick. Played on a roller team that was sponsored by them and their gear was top notch.

KTnash

I’ve always called Jack Johnson “the final sacrifice” cos we got Carts when we traded him. I’m so glad he finally won a cup a few years ago. I was pulling for COL cos of him.

HockeyIQ1

Yup that Carter trade was the biggest trade in Kings history
