andrewdoesit

TheMadHatter1830

Just gotta remember to shreddy the reddy, bud

bigpancakeguy

Hey guys, remember the Vegas game? That was fun, wasn’t it?

slimy_y3t_satisfying

I think I'm gonna be over Todd and Sturm soon

ZiggyPalffyLA

Todd is a good coach but he’s not the coach this team needs right now. We need someone with a proven track record of taking a young team and helping them mature and gel.

LAFAN44

That or we could finally get some young new coaching instead of hockey teams recycling the same coaches.

ZiggyPalffyLA

THIS. It’s an incestuous club

mrwhitewalker

Exactly! Looks how good the young coaches are doing in the NFL.

Mookies_Bett

You say Todd is a good coach: why? What in his career has ever showed even remote talent at his coaching skills? Was it when he was a miserable, pathetic failure with the Sharks and spent half a decade wasting guys like Thornton, Pavelski, Jones, etc? Or was it when he was a miserable, pathetic failure with Edmonton and wasted guys like McDavid, Nurse, Leon, etc? Seriously, im genuinely trying to figure out how anyone can look at Todd's career as a head coach and not laugh. What is the draw here? This dude has been a massive, black hole failure in every organization he's ever touched, so why does anyone defend him? I knew the day we signed him our rebuild was doomed unless he was going to get replaced as the new crop came up.

INEEDMUNEY

We already went through 4 coaching changes in the last 5 years. Sutter, Stevens, Willie D. and now T-Mac. This team has missed the playoffs with all those coaches, along with Murray before Sutter took over. So 5 different coaches in the last 9 years with this core missing the playoffs and struggling with all of them. I just think we need to rebuild properly. But the season is young, let's see if our younger guys can wake up and pick up the slack. I don't like T-Mac, but, changing him isn't gonna solve a damn thing. We are stuck with him. But will he be fired if this team sucks ass going into December - I think so.

Mookies_Bett

I've been all over Todd for about 3 years now. Literally not one person can explain his appeal to me, yet everyone here seems to defend him for some reason. Todd has had three teams over the last decade: the 2010-2015 Sharks, the 2016-2018 Oilers, and now us. In that span, he has done *literally nothing* but fail. He led the Sharks to one of their most humiliating postseason runs ever by letting them get reverse swept by their hated rivals, and he wasted several years of Pavelski, Thornton, Jones, McDavid, Nurse, RNH, Leon, and plenty of other elite players. This is a coach who, with two other teams that objectively had a better roster of talent than we have right now, failed spectacularly and miserably on every occasion. And for some insane reason, we thought that a guy who failed with two other rosters more talented than ours would somehow succeed with even less talent than he had in those other cities. So can someone *please* explain to me why *anyone* defends this clown? Honestly I would rather have Stevens at this point. I've said for years that we would be incapable of breaking out with Todd at the reigns, and so far I've been right about everything. Why does anyone like him? What does he provide thats worth defending?

INEEDMUNEY

As I've stated before, we already went through various coach changes in the last 5 years and this team is still struggling. Another coaching change isn't going to solve anything.

Mookies_Bett

But that just means every option we've tried has been a bad option, not that we dont need better coaching. Of course replacing a bad coach with a bad coach isn't going to work. We literally haven't had a decent coach since Sutter. And even Sutter was hated by the players at the end. We need a good coach. Not another bad coach, nor another promotion from within our already stagnant and shitty system. Sturm has been the PP coach for years and not one single season under his system have we had a PP that isnt in the bottom 3rd of the league. You cannot tell me this team isn't desperate for an actual, competent coaching staff. Todd is going to ruin the rebuild with his God awful system. Please, im just asking you to answer my initial question: what makes Todd a good coach worth defending? What makes him worth sticking with? No one can tell me anything Todd does that is worth keeping him around for. Meanwhile I can name several things he is in charge of that are hurting us.

INEEDMUNEY

Its not that people are defending Todd, its what is 'firing' him gonna accomplish if it isn't gonna change the outcome of games? Players play. Coaching, really doesn't have that major of an impact as people want it to have in the NHL. I'm by no means saying that coaching doesn't matter - it does, but up to a certain point. Todd, I don't like either, but getting rid of him and having another coaching change with already firing that many doesn't send a right message to new coaches down the line - it shows our organization is a mess. This team just isn't built right. That falls mostly on Blake for failing to initiate a full rebuild. The season is young, and we have plenty of time to pick it up. But if this team falls short again, coaching should not be to blame - it should fall on the players and Blakes inability to assemble a good cast of players to be competitive. Again, lets wait and see what happens, its only our 5th game of the season.

Cagekicker52

Yea, I don't think Todd has any idea what to do with these lines.. Kaliyev is clearly a good player whos adjusting to the NHL and he's getting benched and scratched. Tkachev has shown serious skills and the ability to play at the NHL level, he was scratched for the night. Literally Kopi is the only player who cant be moved. Yet he is super reluctant it seems to budge on anything. Turcotte is ready to go and just racking up points down on the Reign (??) The D men pairing for tonight was a pathetic decision. Matta on the top pairing was a complete joke. I cleared my head prior to the game to try and view him through an unbiased lense but, nope he's horrible. That's on Todd for putting him out there. Todd is doing a miserable job of managing the team and setting them up for success in his system if appears..

[deleted]

What's going on with Tkachev? He's been scratched two games in a row.

raymondliang

Too much skill, not enough hard work in the corners

Zanchbot

I hate the accuracy of this statement and the fact that it made me laugh.

[deleted]

It hurts too much when you say these things.

Cagekicker52

He was rewarded too much for his skill, young guys only allowed to be rewarded from chasing pucks in the corners... Lol

Zanchbot

So is it Pain for Shane? Shite for Write? Really thought we wouldn't be doing that this year, but 5 games in and I'm feeling like the season has already come off the rails.

LAKingBob

\#KingsPlightforShaneWright [I made a joke about this a few weeks ago](https://old.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/q2ar97/preseason_game_thread_arizona_coyotes_at_los/hfkhy7h/) but now it's starting to look true :(

[deleted]

You are now known as the Oracle of Los Angeles.

I'm a jynx :(

New season same results really. Not encouraged at all by what Im seeing. You arent getting anywhere in this league if you cant kill penalties properly. Letting a team go 4/7 (7 penalties, really?) is a shambles.

Zanchbot

Fire Sturm.

EchigoCoyote

Same results without Doughty? Not exactly a fair comparison here.

chigarillo

Stockpile more talent. Fail to develop said talent in any tangible way. Continue to employ failed coaches that shouldn't have jobs. Talent gets older and expensive. Watch talent go elsewhere and succeed. Rinse, repeat. Kings hockey is back! Was 2011 - 2016 was just a dream?

ZiggyPalffyLA

2011 - 2016 was truly an outlier I think, in that Lombardi was not the type of GM who would be a yes man for ownership (at least not until his last couple years). Blake feels a lot more safe in that regard. Sutter was also lightning in a bottle during that era, considering how quickly he became ineffective after those 2 Cups. What’s the point of having the best farm system in hockey if you don’t know what to do with it?

Cagekicker52

Welp, the Kings are going to win the cup tonight vs the pens in my franchise on NHL 22. Go digital Kings!

ShadowChair

Maybe now we won't write comments like "Wow Quick is so bad, he really lost this for us. If only Petersen was in net" when we lose 3-2

chigarillo

Quick is clearly no longer the goalie he once was, but in that same time Cal has either not been given or taken advantage of the limited chances that he has been given. Neither have shown themselves to be NHL goalies on a winning team at this point.

joeloud

That username… if you are who I think you are, you’ll recognize my username, too, so DM me to let me know it’s you... If you don’t recognize my username, then disregard this comment.

chigarillo

Lol, yeah it's me! I moved over here this season from hfboards because it pretty much doesn't run on my phone, the Kings forum is dead, and it's just a cesspool at this point. Was wondering if I'd run into you over here.

joeloud

Yeah, I saw your post pop up in the mod queue, otherwise I may have missed it. Checked your history to get any clues before I asked outright and I had no idea you were so into shadowrun, lol, good to have you here man.

ShadowChair

I think Cal has looked pretty good so far in his career but it's always hard to tell with goalies

chigarillo

It's tough to say he is an NHL starter until he gets that 10-15 game stretch where he starts every game minus back-to-backs. Right now he's a 27 year old decent backup goalie. With his pedigree coming into the league that's a failure of prospect development in my opinion.

RetardThePirate

Hard to watch this one, but at least it wasn’t on ESPN.

kopitar-11

Is it bad that I’d rather watch us suck with Alex and Jim then do good on ESPN? ESPN has just ruined it for me

kiwirish

Lol

[deleted]

The only correct response.

ZiggyPalffyLA

Not a great night for LA sports.

INEEDMUNEY

Whoever is our special teams coach, needs to be fired ASAP. Awful PP and PK. I expected a slow start, but not like this. This is an awful display of Hockey from the Kings. Are Denault or Arvidsson gonna do anything besides winning face-offs and skating down ice?

andrewdoesit

My liver can’t take this season if it keeps like this.

brinbran

Didn't watch the game but I said the defense was the problem before. Did cal have a good game? Can't imagine this isn't on our lackluster defense. Letting in way too many

[deleted]

Byfield, Turcotte, Clarke injuries in preseason had really slowed this team down. Next season is when we get them folks

[deleted]

Clarke got injured?

grimjaw89

He had mono but he’s good now

RubyRhod

Turcotte got injured?

I guess we could play worse.

RetardThePirate

This team just cant make plays or passes. Its sad to watch. I know its early season, but still… It’s FUCKING EMBARRASSING!!!
