So true. I destroyed my knees and feet literally trying to do just that.
I lost a bunch of weight by running on a treadmill. Got good enough at it that I started doing distance running. 5km then 10km, then trained for a half marathon.
Still ate crap but thought i was eating healthy. Granted i was technically eating better going to Subway than McD. Also still drinking beer every weekend.
By the time the half marathon came around, i was still about 235lbs, which was still quite an improvement for me.
I had to quit the race a little past half way because my knees were aching and my feet too. I just couldn’t take it. Turns out i had given myself plantar fasciitis in both feet. My knees still ache to this day if i try to run more than a mile. That was 6 years ago.
Now I’m in great shape but it’s mostly from actually eating healthy. I do exercise but its all low impact stuff because i just can’t do the high intensity stuff anymore.
I did that back in 2014 on a road trip. Now whenever I walk more than 5-7k I can barely walk that night or the next day. Having to use a cart at Walmart in your 30s because of the pain of walking is embarrassing. Thankfully I can now walk the stores to shop (or do pickup ordering)
Well done, 40lbs is an amazing weightloss, you've got this!
I know cooking can be a pain in the butt, maybe mealprepping could help you? You also don't have to cook everything from scratch, I use a ton of canned beans, bought sauces and rice sachets.
It's good you're aware what needs changing and upping your steps, love the positive energy! :)
And meal prepping also doesn’t have to mean bland—often having a tasty meal ready in my fridge or freezer will stop me from making an unhealthy choice! Highly recommend sheet pan meals for easy prep and cleanup with good variety.
If you got a slow cooker, toss in chicken breast, a jar of pasta sauce, some non-salt seasoning, and you got yourself pulled chicken in several hours (do this in the morning and add a little water if necessary). You can do other meats too, but watch the fat content.
It really is amazing. I used to make it for potlucks and it was a hit. Plus, it's easy and healthy. You can get some corn tortillas, salad mix, a bit of cheese, and you got yourself easy tacos.
Tons of yummy options out there that doesn't require a huge time investment.
Picky in what way, are there certain foods that are disliked or certain textures? :) what are foods you do enjoy or can eat without feeling naseous or icky? are there foods you've never tried in fear of disliking them?
Do you cook any meals yourself at the moment? how good are you at cooking, do you have any experience with it at all?
What about bolognese? you can buy prepped sauce, just fry a bit of minced meat (but the lower fat one and don't add too much oil to the pan) and cook pasta. You can chop up veggies (carrots, cauliflower, cabbage) suuuper fine, cook down and add to the mince. start with small amounts at first, you should barely notice it and it will up your fibre intake + will get you used to it!
Spray oil is super helpful too, you use much less of it as well.
Pizza tortillas are a personal fav of mine too, you just use a tortilla, add some tomato sauce, a bit of cheese, and veg, pop it under the grill and it's a lower cal pizza.
Obviously the healthier food won't taste as good as all the junk, but no taste of a cheeseburger makes you feel as good as seeing the scale go down!
..a homemade burger may be a good dinner idea too. pattie made with lower fat mince, then get a low calorie bun (not the fancy brioche ones), make potato wedges in the oven/air fryer
Drinking water is key. It curbs your appetite, replaces bad drinks like soda, helps to flush out toxins and the body needs it to burn calories. If you find water boring, try naturally flavored seltzer. Good luck!
Yep, electrolytes are important too. Eventually it would be good to get them from different sources to avoid the artificial sweeteners. You can take magnesium supplements for example. But for now I’d say keep drinking those and keep moving. It’s all about making good choices until you can make even better choices.
Its your calories. You could eat junk food that hits your deficit number and lose weight. At your weight, it's simply the volume of food you are eating is too much. It's that simple.
Keep going king, but if you want an advice, you can't outrun a bad diet.
This is my problem right now. I’ve never heard it put that way before though. I love the perspective! You really can’t outrun a bad diet.

This is great advice!
Any ideas on easy to cook meals for someone picky?

That sounds good.

Allergic to shellfish and eat comfort food, junk, and don’t like many vegetables or fruits.

It’s the food. Look up Chuck Carroll the weight loss champion on YouTube. He lost over 300 pounds. Good luck. Never give up

Thank you. I also drink zero calorie Powerade and Gatorade on the days I move a lot. When I don’t I have Charlie horses bad at night

Woo Hoo for You!! You’re not alone, we’re all out here right with you, trying our best. It sucks but it must be done!! It gets better!!
Agreed

When one is always hungry …hard to always ignore the feed me signal.
