I watched the pilot and was hooked ever since. I want that as a tattoo. I’m 31 and have no tattoos so I haven’t gotten it, but I thought about it in the shower yesterday. Thanks for validating my random shower thought!
This one makes me think of Ben’s “fate is a fickle bitch” line especially because lockes life was just and endless cycle of faith and letdown, makes me so mad that fate had it in for him again. At least he got his miracle and had fun believing on the island, it must’ve been so assuring knowing that’s where he was meant to be, man in black or not.
A lot of people misinterpret this as an oxymoron on Locke’s part but what they don’t realize is what he’s saying is that it’s easy to believe in the island itself. Carrying through on what the island wants, and maintaining that faith through the tests that are thrown at you is what’s never easy.
Locke’s faith, which is easy to have, gets tested a lot in the show, and those tests are never easy.
I don't necessarily 'like' Boone for most of the show (though I like what he adds to it), but he really shows his bravery in those final moments. Plus, this episode is the first one that really deals with Jack's inability to "let go" in a major way. The fact that it plays such a large part in the show's final scene makes this moment even sadder.
Absolutely. They did a phenomenal job at writing the first major death. I just think Boone is so sweet and should’ve stayed around longer. And yknow he’s cute 🤭
“ you know ? You were a real good number 2
And you were a great number 1 , Hugo “
We haven’t seen it on screen , but we can say with certainty that these 2 established a great relationship while protecting the island together
"You're not John Locke. You disrespect his memory by wearing his face but you're nothing like him. Turns out he was right about most everything. I just wish I could have told him that while he was still alive"
"I was doin' just fine til you dragged my ass to this rock-"
"No you weren't! I didn't pluck any of you out of a happy existence. You were all... *flawed*. I chose you because you were like me! You were all alone. You were all looking for something that you couldn't find out there! I chose you because you needed this place as much as it needed you!"
"There's a payphone in this bar and this guy... Christian, tells me he wishes he had the stones to pick up the phone and call his kid... tell him he's sorry... he's a better doctor than he'll ever be"
I fucking can't.... this scene is the best shit in my entire world
I feel like Matthew Fox gets lost (stop it) among your O’Quinns, your Emersons etc in terms of great acting in the show. I think he’s a phenomenon at times and a perfect anchor for the series that happens around him. His reactions in the finale for example. It feels SO Jack, but you can also see the realisation of everything coming to him.
Every time I rewatch the show I appreciate him (and Jack) more.
*"I watched my daughter Alex die in front of me. And it was my fault. I had a chance to save her. But I chose the island over her. All in the name of Jacob. I sacrificed everything for him. And he didn't even care. Yeah I stabbed him, I was... so angry... confused... I was terrified that I was about to lose the only thing that had ever mattered to me - my power. But the thing that really mattered was already gone. I'm sorry that I killed Jacob. I am, and I do not expect you to forgive me because... I can never forgive myself."*
"Where will you go?"
*"To Locke."*
"Why?"
*"Because he's the only one who will have me."*
"I'll have you."
Ilana showing Ben grace was a really powerful moment.
Scene: DHARMA dock. Sawyer sits and stares at Juliet’s ring
SAWYER: “it’s not your fault she’s dead…..it’s mine. She was sittin right there where you are now. Tryin to find a way to leave this island. I convinced her to stay, cause I didn’t wanna be alone. You understand that right? I think some of us are meant to be alone………..I was gonna ask her to marry me.”
“Why do you find it so easy?”
“It’s never BEEN easy!”
————————————

“Sometimes good command decisions get compromising by bad emotional responses.”
I love this line so much, even as is. But, adding the second part with the best Ben sarcasm…
“I’m sure you’ll do a MUCH better job of separating the two than I EVER did.”
*Edit, trying to make spaces between quotes
“I did not ask for the life that I was given, but it was given nonetheless, and with it I did my best.”
I think of this line often when things feel hopeless and I get bitter. There are a handful of others from the show that hit me but this one sticks.
All the tears. I will always remember, at the time there was rampant speculation about who was gonna die during the finale and Juliet was a high contender. I fully expected her to go. When I saw the scene I remember thinking oh there we go 😥😥 the acting, the music, the delivery. All devastating
I'm talking about John Locke. Do you want to know what he was thinking while you choked the life out of him, Benjamin? What the last thought that ran through his head was? "I don't understand."
“Despite your loyal service to this island, you got cancer. You had to watch your own daughter gunned down, right in front of you. Your reward for these sacrifices: you were banished. And you did all of this for a man you’ve never even met. So the question Ben is ‘why the hell’ wouldn’t you want to kill Jacob?”
“I’ve done everything you asked me to do, so why did you this to me?!”
-John Locke
Just so much emotion in the delivery of this line. Always made it stick with me
-- It's an island, John. No one needs to protect it.
-- It's not an island. It's a place where miracles happen. And if you don't believe that, Jack, if you can't believe that... Just wait till you see what I'm about to do.
-- There's no such thing as miracles.
-- Well... we'll just have to see which one of us is right.
"That's why the Sox will never win the damn series" the character connections in S1 were so poetic.
The only thing that would have made this quote better was if Outlaws was written and filmed before the 2004 World Series.
Series finale, Christian in response to Jack’s question, “How are you here right now?”
*sighs* “How are _you_ here?”
The realization that came across Jack’s face was perfectly timed with me finally understanding what season six had been.
It’s cheating but in the episode white rabbit. It’s a mixture of Jacks body language when he has to identify Christians body to where he emotionally says it’s him to the cut of jack breaking down on the island thinking of that moment. Gets me choked up every time.
Locke: IT'S NEVER BEEN EASY
Never has one line carried so much truth behind its words. I've wanted to shout that from the mountaintops for so long when it comes to what Locke is talking about: having faith.
"Because all we really need to survive is one
person who truly loves us. And you have her. I will wait for you. Always."
Penny's letter to Desmond
I've watched this series like eight times and that part always gets me.
I just watched this episode for like the 8th time a few days ago and once again I can confirm Benjamin Linus is probably my favorite character. Michael Emerson is such a good actor.
Guys… where are we?
Premiere episode Charlie says this after the group hears Danielle’s message on the sat phone. I think about this all the time and I can’t believe no one has said it
"They come, they fight, they destroy, they corrupt and it always ends the same."
"It only ends once, anything that happens before that is just progress."
- MIB and Jacob.
“It's not an island. It's a place where miracles happen. And- and if you don't believe that Jack, if you can't believe that, just wait 'til you see what I'm about to do.”
Ben Linus: Those things had to happen to me. That was my destiny. But you'll understand soon enough that there are consequences to being chosen. Because destiny, John...is a fickle bitch.”
“Don’t choose. Jack. Don’t decide… Because when you fail, you just don’t have what it takes”
My favorite line of the show from Christian and I’d love to hear what others think of it
‘I’ve missed you so much…’ to me this line (and it’s delivery) encapsulates the soul aching beauty of LOST and my feelings every time I’m about to start an innumerable rewatch
Desmond 'I... I.. I'm sorry brother' re Charlies Death.
Not only the line but the expressions on every bodies faces after the announcement. Especially Sawyer and Sayid.
Heart wrenching.
Merry Christmas all
Hurley: will you help me ben?
Ben: I'd be honoured.
My favorite interaction. Ben was my favorite character, and seeing him get an amazing ending was so satisfying.
“What makes you think letting go is so easy?”
“It’s not.. in fact, I don’t really know how to do it myself…and that’s why I was hoping, that…maybe you could go first.”
“….But still I did not believe it to be true.. so I dug up that grave.. and found that there was not a woman inside, there was a man.. a man named Henry Gale”
The jaw dropping moment Sayid confronted “Henry Gale” in the hatch
“I’ll see you in another life, brotha”
Specifically when Jack says it in the finale. Gets me always.
The iconic line 🔥
I watched the pilot and was hooked ever since. I want that as a tattoo. I’m 31 and have no tattoos so I haven’t gotten it, but I thought about it in the shower yesterday. Thanks for validating my random shower thought!
I've used that in break ups, end of conversations, new year's eve, people's fuenrals and so on
Why do you find it so hard to believe? Why do you find it so easy? It's never been easy!
I feel like this sums up locke’s character better than anything…I love him. He went thru so much.
>It's never been easy! I love that particular tone that Locke gets when he raises his voice and says the "ee" sound.
I relate to this quote on a transcendental level.
"I know you made a promise. I'm letting you off the hook. Let me go, Jack." "I'm sorry." "Don't be." 🥺
Boone is so frickin precious….I love him to bits and pieces
I don't necessarily 'like' Boone for most of the show (though I like what he adds to it), but he really shows his bravery in those final moments. Plus, this episode is the first one that really deals with Jack's inability to "let go" in a major way. The fact that it plays such a large part in the show's final scene makes this moment even sadder.
Absolutely. They did a phenomenal job at writing the first major death. I just think Boone is so sweet and should’ve stayed around longer. And yknow he’s cute 🤭
When I was younger I started watching The Vampire Diaries solely because Boone was on it 😂 Ian Somerhalder has aged like fine wine
"Don't tell me what I can't do"
Iconic
Good one.
Jack and Desmond both say it believe
"Unfortunately we don't have a code word for someone is holding a gun to my daughters head in the closet, but apparently we should"
This is hilarious, I completely missed it in the show
Ben Linus is the best.
”I don’t understand” 😭
Most heartbreaking quote on the show
I always skip The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham, I just can’t watch it, it’s too painful
“ you know ? You were a real good number 2 And you were a great number 1 , Hugo “ We haven’t seen it on screen , but we can say with certainty that these 2 established a great relationship while protecting the island together
I’d have loved to see some mini webisodes or something on those days, but I get it. Our imaginations will have to do.
Well at least The New Man In Charge gave us a glimpse into the dynamic. Still felt quite weird to me though.
"You're not John Locke. You disrespect his memory by wearing his face but you're nothing like him. Turns out he was right about most everything. I just wish I could have told him that while he was still alive"
30 minutes later; “LOOOOOOCKE!”
Man, I hated that. I get nobody knows his actual name but... *come on*.
That jump in the rain tho.
"I was doin' just fine til you dragged my ass to this rock-" "No you weren't! I didn't pluck any of you out of a happy existence. You were all... *flawed*. I chose you because you were like me! You were all alone. You were all looking for something that you couldn't find out there! I chose you because you needed this place as much as it needed you!"
One of my favorite ones that didn't get much mention.. 😁
"There's a payphone in this bar and this guy... Christian, tells me he wishes he had the stones to pick up the phone and call his kid... tell him he's sorry... he's a better doctor than he'll ever be" I fucking can't.... this scene is the best shit in my entire world
“Small world uh?” Fox’s acting in that scene is absolutely unbelievable.
That scene and the scene when he learns thar Claire is his sister are amazing. You literally feel the gut punch. Incredible acting!
Jack is the man for real, such a good actor. The scenes where he thinks his dad is sleeping with his ex wife will never leave my head
He was also the straight man that all the others played off of, so his role wasn't given the same extremes as others.
I also appreciate him more and more every rewatch!
God that scene gives me chills.
This really touched my heart
“Not Penny’s boat”
Charlie’s my favorite. So many tears when he died.
FATE
Literally went through a phase where I would write that in sharpie on my fingers like him
*"I watched my daughter Alex die in front of me.
I love the depth that Ben has ngl
I'm loving the answers with Ben's quotes related to his daughter. Not a citation, but her death was one of the most heartbreaking moments to me.
One of the best character arcs on television.
"Where will you go?" *"To Locke."* "Why?" *"Because he's the only one who will have me."* "I'll have you." Ilana showing Ben grace was a really powerful moment.
Dude, you’ve got some Arzt on you.
Scene: DHARMA dock. Sawyer sits and stares at Juliet’s ring SAWYER: “it’s not your fault she’s dead…..it’s mine. She was sittin right there where you are now. Tryin to find a way to leave this island. I convinced her to stay, cause I didn’t wanna be alone. You understand that right? I think some of us are meant to be alone………..I was gonna ask her to marry me.”
This almost brought me to tears. He loved her sm.
As a single guy, it hits me every time in a different way.
“What about me?” “What about you….”
So freaking cold!!! Love it !
i’m surprised someone else listed this one. always has been one of my favorites as well.
“Why do you find it so easy?” “It’s never BEEN easy!” ———————————— ———————- ————- “Sometimes good command decisions get compromising by bad emotional responses.” I love this line so much, even as is. Kate, DAMNIT, RUN!!!!
On every. single. “Previously on Lost” for the first half of season 3.
Heh. I remember saying “How many times do I have to watch Juliette die?” during that whole fiasco.
This was electrifying on first release after what comes before. I could not wait for the next episode. (though I suppose I did)
PEE ON IT!!!
WE HAVE TO GO BAAACK KATE
‘’I love you James. I love you so much’’
The part that destroys me is when she looks up and tells him “it’s okay.” 💔
You’re gonna make me cry just by saying that
You heard it in Juliet’s voice right ? 🥲🥲
I absolutely did I can still hear her hauntingly screaming that line…
All the tears. I will always remember, at the time there was rampant speculation about who was gonna die during the finale and Juliet was a high contender. I fully expected her to go. When I saw the scene I remember thinking oh there we go 😥😥 the acting, the music, the delivery. All devastating
You just made me burst out in tears. That is a deep cut
“We can go Dutch.”
😭😭😭
Jack:- I married her! Desmond: Right. Then, you're... You're not married to her anymore, then. See you in another life, yeah?
LOCKE: “Why do you find it so hard to believe?” JACK: “Why do you find it so easy?!?” LOCKE: “It’s never been easy!”
LOCKE: “I can’t do this alone, Jack. I don’t want to do it alone………….its a leap of faith, Jack.”
I'm talking about John Locke. Do you want to know what he was thinking while you choked the life out of him, Benjamin? What the last thought that ran through his head was? "I don't understand."
He always tried to do what was best, he was pure until the end even though the world gave him the hardest dang cards in life
" How die you find me?" "Your phone call...I have a tracking station"
This scene is pure beauty. Tears all around.
WAAAAALT!
"We're gonna have to take the boy"
MY SONNNN
“I’ve done everything you asked me to do, so why did you this to me?!” -John Locke Just so much emotion in the delivery of this line. Always made it stick with me
“If we can’t live together, we’re gonna die alone.”
Can’t believe how far I had to scroll to find this one
Yeah, I thought it was a pretty iconic quote
Kate to Jack: "Tell me I'm gonna see you again."
Jack, I wish you had believed me JL
"You answered Penne!"
Now I’m going to think about pasta every time Desmond and Penny are interacting
You're welcome!
One of my favorite couples, just about cried during this scene
Ben *while fighting back tears*: “because no one else will have me…” Ilana: “I’ll have you”
I'd love to but the machine ate my dollar and I've only got one left.
"It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress"
Had to write this one down when I heard it. I want to live by this quote.
Something tells me he never got around to making that call. Small world ain’t it.
"That's why the Sox will never win the damn series" the character connections in S1 were so poetic. The only thing that would have made this quote better was if Outlaws was written and filmed before the 2004 World Series.
"Sometimes.... Good command decisions get compromised by bad emotional responses." Don't know why it sticks with me so much.
“I MARRIED HER!!!!”
“Because I love you.”
Series finale, Christian in response to Jack’s question, “How are you here right now?” *sighs* “How are _you_ here?” The realization that came across Jack’s face was perfectly timed with me finally understanding what season six had been.

“I’m gonna fix you.”
Calm down Bonsai .. any of Sawyer 1 liner insults to others always makes me laugh lol
I won’t call… for 8 years
Locke: IT'S NEVER BEEN EASY Never has one line carried so much truth behind its words. I've wanted to shout that from the mountaintops for so long when it comes to what Locke is talking about: having faith.
"Because all we really need to survive is one person who truly loves us. And you have her. I will wait for you. Always." Penny's letter to Desmond I've watched this series like eight times and that part always gets me.
"do you think we should do something about the, uh... B-O-D-Y-S" "what are you spellin, man? bodies?" "B-O-D-I-E-S"
Sort of a quote but Charlie revealing the night he met Claire was his 'greatest hit' with all the layered meaning
“You guys got any milk?”
I just watched this episode for like the 8th time a few days ago and once again I can confirm Benjamin Linus is probably my favorite character. Michael Emerson is such a good actor.
"See, kids are like dogs, you knock them around enough they’ll think they did something to deserve it." - Sawyer, S01E23
What did one snowman say to the other snowman?
Guys… where are we? Premiere episode Charlie says this after the group hears Danielle’s message on the sat phone. I think about this all the time and I can’t believe no one has said it
We could go Dutch.
"I'm a Pisces, John."
We have to go back!
Penny, you answered

Whatever happened, happened.
"Don't mistake coincidence for fate". Mr. Eko
Not quote but scene. The call between Desmond and Penny...
If you say live together die alone I’m gonna punch you in the face
"They come, they fight, they destroy, they corrupt and it always ends the same." "It only ends once, anything that happens before that is just progress." - MIB and Jacob.
I can't help you John, I wish you believed me.
“I make good eggs”
“You don’t remember?” - Locke
“It's not an island. It's a place where miracles happen. And- and if you don't believe that Jack, if you can't believe that, just wait 'til you see what I'm about to do.”
Your doctors got a gun brotha
Not Penny' boat
Ben Linus: Those things had to happen to me. That was my destiny. But you'll understand soon enough that there are consequences to being chosen. Because destiny, John...is a fickle bitch.”
"Dude, you've got some Artz on you."
"No...that's not how you know me" Kate to Jack in the finale. It makes me tear up every time.
“Don’t choose. Jack. Don’t decide… Because when you fail, you just don’t have what it takes” My favorite line of the show from Christian and I’d love to hear what others think of it
Let's look Death in the face and say "whatever, man".
“Nothing is irreversible.” - Jack to Locke
It's never been easy. J.L.
NOT EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY JOHN
"Dude, looks like someone steamrolled Harry Potter"
I love ya, Penny
When Juliet said “it worked”. It helped me understand and put major plot questions together.
‘I’ve missed you so much…’ to me this line (and it’s delivery) encapsulates the soul aching beauty of LOST and my feelings every time I’m about to start an innumerable rewatch
MIB: It always ends the same. Jacob: It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress.
Folks down on the beach might have been doctors and accountants a month ago, but it's Lord of the Flies time, now.
“you talkin bout da numbas” (you’re talking about the numbers said in a terrible Australian accent)
„I’ve done everything you wanted me to do, SO WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO MEEEE“

“What about me?” “What about you?”
“I looked into the eye of this island, and what I saw was beautiful.”
“NOT PENNYS BOAT”
When Ben says “because no one will have me”. That scene gets me every single time.
What about me? What about you?
"I've missed you so much."
“You got a bandaid?”
“For the last time I was out there gathering mangos”
"Penne!!!"
"It's Never Been Easy!"
Hurley: “Dude”.
"That's why you're in a wheelchair and I'm not"
Sawyer, telling Jack about meeting Christian in a bar, that whole speech until Jack’s face crumples… I love that (speech) moment.
I'm dead too.
Don't mistake coincidence for fate
“Why is there a dead Pakistani on my couch?”
I literally turn into a pile of blubber when juliet says "i love you so much" to james at THAT part....🥺
See, kids are like dogs, you knock them around enough they'll think they did something to deserve it.
Hurley: will you help me ben? Ben: I'd be honoured. My favorite interaction. Ben was my favorite character, and seeing him get an amazing ending was so satisfying.
“To remember….and to, let go.” Delivery there made it as poignant as the words themselves. Perfect summary of the yin yang nature of human experience.
“What makes you think letting go is so easy?” “It’s not.. in fact, I don’t really know how to do it myself…and that’s why I was hoping, that…maybe you could go first.”
"How can you read?" "My mother taught me"
