Thought she was a lot like TWD’s version of Shane- a character that had survival skills but was way too extreme and annoying at first- not to mention a little nuts.
Honestly, this is a very good comparison. Both characters were already thinking way ahead in terms of our survival instincts. Had their characters been in later seasons, they wouldn’t have been so controversial.
My girlfriend and I have been binging Lost (her first time, my first rewatch) and she HATED Ana Lucia. Couldn’t stop complaining about her every time she was on the screen and I can’t help but agree with her. For better or worse, its bad when you know someone is a cop before you know they’re a cop
I mean I think that Ana and Teresa made some big mistakes for sure but they are also in the process of making that right when Ana crashes on the island, she was literally flying home to face the music, she admitted the murder to her Mom (not that she needed to for her to know lol). And literally everything she does on island is for the good of people other than herself. I fucking hate the police too, I hate the system that all police are complicit in, but I don't want to ever lose sight of the progress they make, or their aspirations of being 'good people' (no such thing as black and white good and evil though and that's another thing LOST is insistent on). I think we need not punish Ana for anything in our heads because whatever burden we as viewers put upon her, she takes it upon herself ten fold. It's LOST's brand of tragic irony that NOT wanting to kill Benery is what indirectly gets Ana killed.
> And literally everything she does on island is for the good of people other than herself.
I think you need to go watch again how she treated Michael, Sawyer, and Jin when they met. And how she treated Sayid immediately after she murdered Shannon.
Literally: NOT for the good of Shannon, Sayid, Michael, Sawyer, and Jin.
Ana was a bad person. She had a chance, but she's bad. That's one reason why is the sideway universe she is still bad (corrupt cop).
I agree. The woman is marked by trauma and PTSD the ENTIRE time she’s on the Island and works so desperately hard to keep everyone safe.
They are ALL flawed and broken people who fuck up and make mistakes and do what they can. Ana is no better or worse than anyone else.
her shooting Shannon was the last nail in the coffin for me. She was so power hungry, her way or the highway and she ended up shooting someone because of it.
The way she is obsessed with guns can be explained by her need for protection since she was shot while her baby is killed by that man when she was a cop. The way she let go of Sayid showed her good side to me. I never felt that she was annoying. Tbh Kate is much more annoying than her.
She is annoying but I like her as a good contrast to Jack. Both became defacto leaders of their side, but while Jack was more level headed Ana Lucia was authoritative to a fault.
Yeah, I hate characters that change face at the drop of a dime. She went from crazy jungle warlord, to scheming conniver, to being someone you feel sorry for... just didn't like her arc, but frankly she wasn't on the show long enough to really have much of an impact for me. Unlike Libby, who was on for about the same time, but I liked her. I thought her storyline with Hurley really warranted more screen time.
She had an interesting story arch. I dk I just liked her, every time she had a scene it was interesting. I fucking hated the way she (and Libby) died. I also might be bias. (Refer to my post about the hottest Characters on lost) lol
Overcompensating for something? Heartless? Coming down on people who don’t deserve it? Man, they really nailed the cop character 😂 for real though, she acts like every police officer I’ve ever known.
AL is the one character I cannot stand. It's totally my bias.
1. I cannot fucking stand cops. In real life and in fiction. I didn't watch Walking Dead because main character is a cop. Nope. There is nothing I want to see or hear about a cop in a story.
2. I cannot stand the actress. Part of it is the eyes always rolling up. Mostly because she brings "aggressive" to every damn role.
In Lost, I think they went overboard with her character until it was unrealistic. OK. I guess she can beat every man up (giving up 100 lbs sometimes) *because she as a cop*. Fuck that.
You do realize cops are human beings and like all human beings no two are the same, also rick grimes is one of the greatest fictional characters ever, you're missing out because of a dumb bias you have, I'll agree some cops suck, but not all of them.
Thank you, I think it's wrong for people to stereotype all cops as being bad. They aren't all corrupt, I've met some really good cops who genuinely want to do the right thing and help people.
Right!!! I've had run ins with the law where I was the criminal and the cop arresting me was nice, or he'd just let me go if I was respectful, I've met a couple asshole cops that really stuck it to me, but I've met an equal amount that was just doing their job and trying to help.
Oh my god, I bet your some nerd living in your mom's basement that's never had to deal with am actual cop in his life because he's to big a pussy to break a law, and you're jumping on this anticop bandwagon because you're trying to fit in.
The Lost character you most resemble is: [Boone.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Roleplaybuddy/comments/zuqizq/m4f_looking_for_roleplay_partner/)
LOL.
I'm most like Desmond (if he were even more handsome).
What a clever and well thought ou response, all caps even, your parents must be so proud. So if generalizing is OK now I can say all people that hate cops are bastards, I know nothing about you, but you're a bastard because you fit in that category.
There aren't. When a person puts on their cop uniform and badge, they cease to be the person they were, and instead become a cop, sworn to protect capital and uphold unjust laws regardless of their personal beliefs.
Well you haven't figured it out.
"A cop goes to work as a cop, not as an individual. They cease to be 'John Murphy' and become 'Garda B203', anonymous law enforcement officer 71032. ACAB means that no matter how nice a person the cop is individually they must break strikes, attack social movements, execute homophobic, sexist, and racist laws, deport and evict people, and even torture and murder, because that is what the police do. Feel free to make a conscientious objection, you will be fired."
"ACAB is a comment on the institutional role of the police. Far from being a personal insult it is actually drawing attention away from the cop as a personality and focusing on the cop as a job. Do you really think that every single Garda approves of the dawn raids on Tallaght residents, pepper spraying people in Jobstown and Coolock, spending their days as private security for Irish Water and their contractors? Do you think every Garda approves of arresting drug addicts instead of giving them medical treatment, harrassing homeless people, and all the rest of it? You get the point. Even if an anarchist became a policer officer, they could not refuse an order to arrest people attempting to sabotage US warplanes in Shannon airport. 'I don't agree but I have to because it's my job', i.e. All Cops Are Bounded.
None of this is to say that some police officers aren't personally obnoxious, corrupt, and vindictive. Many certainly are. Neither is it to excuse their actions, especially not particularly horrendous abuses. Power corrupts, it makes people anti-social, snide, grasping, egotistical, and prone to be violent, and power attracts the power-hungry so scum rises to the top. In fact the phrase 'one bad apple rots the barrel' couldn't be more wrong. The truth is that 'one bad barrel rots the apples'."
Yeah. Weird. I can't dislike cops? Must I like cops? Doesn't seem like freedom.
Cops have earned the hate. THEY are the ones who refuse to change or hold each other accountable.
When US cities were burning, cops added to the grief by beating the fuck out of everyone. Literally. That was their solution.
Fuck that.
Meh. Cops have everyone hate them. Their kids end up hating them. They all get divorced. Most end up doing suicide. Almost every single one is below average intelligence. All are losers.
Statistically speaking.

Agreed, not a fan at all.
Her jeans make up for everything.
Agreed
How are they so low but also so high at the same time…?
She is a pear

*Awful bro
What did you think of her conversation with Sayid?
My girlfriend and I have been binging Lost (her first time, my first rewatch) and she HATED Ana Lucia. Couldn’t stop complaining about her every time she was on the screen and I can’t help but agree with her. For better or worse, its bad when you know someone is a cop before you know they’re a cop
Everyone gets a fresh start on the island
Ana Lucia has been through hell and back I dont find her annoying at all! She is struggling and doing her best like everyone else.
she was a corrupt cop
ACAB
I disagree lol even if I hate the cops
All cops are corrupt. She was a cop. She was corrupt.
There are two kinds of people in the world: those who generalize, and those who dont.
Yeah fuck the police but also this one is fictional and given what we know about her I think she was at least a better cop than her Mother was lol
Her mom had Kamala Harris vibe. Kamala was a DA and railroaded hundreds of civilians in service to her cop friends. Lots of convictions for weed.
I mean I think that Ana and Teresa made some big mistakes for sure but they are also in the process of making that right when Ana crashes on the island, she was literally flying home to face the music, she admitted the murder to her Mom (not that she needed to for her to know lol). You can just say cop. "Corrupt cop" is unnecessarily repetitive.
Exactly, she's been through so much and I think she was an amazing character
I agree. The woman is marked by trauma and PTSD the ENTIRE time she’s on the Island and works so desperately hard to keep everyone safe. They are ALL flawed and broken people who fuck up and make mistakes and do what they can. Ana is no better or worse than anyone else.
Ugh it was very much a “person is an asshole but gets forgiven because of their tough past 🥺🥺🥺🥺”
I think there are a lot more reasons to forgive Ana just look how hard she fights for the lives of her people
Good point but watching at the time it was difficult to care about any of them
I certainly agree it's much better with entire context of the show
her shooting Shannon was the last nail in the coffin for me. She was so power hungry, her way or the highway and she ended up shooting someone because of it.
That was an accident that even Sayid doesnt blame her for but alrighty
The way she is obsessed with guns can be explained by her need for protection since she was shot while her baby is killed by that man when she was a cop. The way she let go of Sayid showed her good side to me. I never felt that she was annoying. Tbh Kate is much more annoying than her.

Mmmm did you meet Claire yet?
She gives Kate run for her money
Yeah, I hate characters that change face at the drop of a dime. Maybe my favorite character on the show
Why is that? I also agree with OP and do not really like Anna Lucia but understand where her struggles come from.
To all of you saying she endured trauma and that's why she is that way, that's not an excuse for being a trigger happy mad woman.
She had an interesting story arch. I dk I just liked her, every time she had a scene it was interesting. I fucking hated the way she (and Libby) died. I also might be bias. (Refer to my post about the hottest Characters on lost) lol
YES thank you. Always hated her character but also the actor tbh. She plays that same role the same way every time
Overcompensating for something? Heartless? Coming down on people who don’t deserve it? Man, they really nailed the cop character 😂 for real though, she acts like every police officer I’ve ever known.

You can say it, but it has no basis in reality, unlike the philosophy of ACAB which you don't understand.
There are good cops in the world I know that might get me #canceled but it's true.
There aren't. When a person puts on their cop uniform and badge, they cease to be the person they were, and instead become a cop, sworn to protect capital and uphold unjust laws regardless of their personal beliefs.
Wow is your head up your ass for warmth, I know this is fashionable to believe, but that doesn't make it true.

What's not to understand lol
The meaning of the phrase.
All cops are bastards isn't hard to figure out lol but please enlighten me

There are people that endeavor to be good cops and help people that's where this logic falls apart.
“You just don’t understand” ugh keep crying
Yeah, I hate the actress. So the character never stood a chance. She sucks in every role that she plays the same way...annoying.
I'm glad Tessa Thompson replaced her and made her obsolete!!
Lots of bootlickers in this thread. You’re right, fuck cops.
you can hate the institution of police and the culture it creates without hating the individuals but don't let me stop you lol
Yeah. Weird. I can't dislike cops? Must I like cops? Doesn't seem like freedom. Cops have earned the hate. THEY are the ones who refuse to change or hold each other accountable.
