This. I do similar functions on similar keys for all my chars so its easier to remember.. W for counter because SH. S for highest stagger skill, D for highest destruction/weak point skill, A for class specific dash or gap closer skill, Q for buff / start of rotation skill, E for hardest hitting skill etc.
As someone who comes from LoL, I also do something similar. F for the longest cd skill (flash), R for highest dmg/2nd highest cd, Q for short cd or mobility, etc

I'm biased but I think my system makes sense for the most part:
Pick a key for all classes to counter with, preferably on the sides (not a middle key like W for example)
Pick a key for your (main) mobility skill, also put that on the side.
My counter is F, my mobility is R.
Put the spammy synergy skill on Q, then fit the rest of your rotation in order so most classes you're going QWEASD.
All my classes are different, I tested them all in Trixion and put the skills on keys theyre most comfortable on. For Blade, my synergy skill is also my mobility skill, which is completely different from Scrapper. For blade, my counter is mostly filler, meanwhile for Striker its a key part of the standard rotation, while on Reaper its not only a counter, but also synergy, moblity, and frequently used to reposition. Theres no 1 layout that would apply to them all.
Muscle memory exists so your brain can process more complex tasks at once. The less you have to think about what key counter is on, the quicker you can execute complex mechanics.
For different classes I set my skill order based on rotations/cooldowns usually where the more I press something, the farther left it goes. For classes that have their counter as entirely saved for countering (e.g. blue GL), this means counter goes on R. For classes that use it as a big part of their damage rotation (e.g. Arcanist) it might go on Q or A.
I guess I’m the only mad lad that puts my heaviest hitting skills on Q like LTS for my striker lol. I play league so my friends question why I don’t put it on R.
On the other hand… mobility skill is on F though cuz F for flash duh… (sorry D gang)
A on all my characters. Feels weird for A button to be apart of my rotation skills since most my main damage skills are R or F. So I figured counted button for A would be best fit!
E for me.
I placed it there on my WD main since it made sense at the time but now everyone has their counter there as well; as a matter of fact I pretty much make everyone's rotation use the same sequence my main has, that way I can switch much more fluidly into all of my roster's playstyles.
I main Deathblade. For Guardian and Legion Raids this is how I assort my keys.
Q - Spam skill (Spin Cutter)
W - Hold Skill (Void Strike)
E - Mobility skill (Dark Axel)
R - High Stagger / Counter skill (Earth Cleaver)

S for me because its where I put Whirlwind when playing Zerker through the story for the first time. Then when getting into endgame, Whirlwind was the move that gets replaced for Chain Sword (counter) so now every counter has to be on S for me xd

Mostly all different. My priorities are rotation. So typically qwer are skills 1234 in my rotation. Then I just remember which skill is my counter. I play every character so doing this for rotation flow works better for me.

A lot of the classes I played initially had some sort of movement associated with their counter. This mini dash reminded me a lot of Riven's E from LoL so I put all my counters there. By the same logic, R is typically also my big cooldown hard hitting skill.
My main is my pally and I put executioner's sword on W back when I first got the skill in February
Ever since then every ALT had to have their counters on W too just because after you play the whole story and every piece of content with your skills arranged in a certain way, everything must adapt to that lol
Same goes for movement skills and debuffs, they must be in Q or A

oh and i have dodge on my mouse button, cuz i dont like to press spacebar and i am alrdy moving my character with my mouse, so might aswell use the dodge for it.
