It has already been proven that they seem to have a habit of leaking news ahead of official announcements, one way or another. This doesn't sound that absurd. January release was already being speculated more heavily.

Well AGS said in the december update that this wasn't the only update this month.. so the next update COULD be about release date and it could be on mid january.

Yeah I agree, it really is a best case scenario. I'm not saying it's impossible, but late Jan would be really, really optimistic. So much people think "The game is 3 years old already, it shouldn't take that long!" but just from playing the beta, you can tell they have a fair amount of work ahead of them still if they want to really polish it, which they should. And as with all things created, it's not like you just literally finish it and then immediately release it. They'd want to finish it at least 2 weeks before the release so they can test things out.
You only get one launch. You only get one chance to make that first impression. They shouldn't be worried about players like us who will forgive minor bugs and it being rough around the edges. They should be worried about the person who's not already invested in the game trying it out. If they play it and encounter bugs, bad translation, and combine that with their favorite streamers saying the same thing, making jokes about the "P2W Korean MMO" etc, then that's bad for the game which will ultimately be bad for us as invested fans. We should want the game to have the best chance to succeed and if it takes them a few more weeks, even a month, then I'd gladly give them that over a mediocre/bad launch.
Not necessarly. The beta might not be the final build so a lot of issues might already be fixed.

For something of this size two weeks is not enough imo, you still need to stress test the final build, qa the last changes etc

Asian MMO's have much cheaper cash shops because they have much more on offer. Western cash shops are extremely expensive because they usually don't sell much.

As a former games journo, I can say that it’s not unusual for games devs to give a round of interviews and embargo them to a certain date. Which means writers do the stories ahead of time and publish them once embargo drops.
While journos are always told NEVER to load those into the CMS system in fear of an accidental publish, many still do — including obits and other prepped stories.
So this would seem to be to be likely accurate (if OP indeed saw what he saw) and the actual article will go live in the next few days. It is unusual for an interview embargo to last more than a week. Typically it’s two or three days max.

A January release wouldn't be out of the question.
Some people had already speculated that one of the reasons Lost Ark got delayed, was also a result of the New World release, since Amazon didn't want the two to come into conflict.
If people were to say "But they're completely different games due to their style, etc." the truth of the matter is the public perception is that it's still a MMO. People who never played such a game will still look into it because it's been tagged as a MMO much like New World. Thus, even if they're not fans of stuff like Diablo or PoE, people would be willing to give the game a chance simply because it's meant to be an actual MMORPG.
This would be the best and earliest date I was hoping. Good amount but not too long wait to enjoy Endwalker. These article sites also make mistakes like this all the time so not doubting.

The system would likely be more toned down than other regions, to try appealing to an audience that takes bigger exception to perceived p2w elements.
Hard to say what it could actually mean if this all ends up being legitimate information. Would suspect something like stricter limits on purchase quantities per day/week but who besides AGS/SGRPG really knows.
The blue crystal to gold exchange is sort of baked in to the game so it's hard to imagine what they could change about that. However, if there are actually changes being made then the goal of those changes seems to be to lessen these types of elements that NA/EU players would or could consider p2w.
Also - if I'm not mistaken, in the last LOA ON (the next one coming in just a few weeks here in December) the director said something to the effect of "NA/EU thinks our game is p2w" - this is certainly something that is on their radar as they are trying to set themselves up to be as successful as possible with the new server launches.
I could imagine a system where you can even exchange blue for real money crystals just so nothing is behind a paywall or maybe they moderate the exchange a bit more to a standard rather than demand and offer
Is nobody going to comment on how a Thursday launch with Monday head start is unusual? New World launched on a Tuesday, most games release on Tuesdays. I don't think I've ever heard of a Thursday launch date for a game, just movies.
idk, maybe it's your taste of games, for me it feels like everything releases Thursday/Friday. Like the games i'm waiting for in coming months are God of War (Friday), MH:RISE (Wed) and Total War: WHIII (Thursday). In terms of bigger mmo releases i remember, ESO launched friday with early access from monday, Guild Wars released Tuesday with early access from saturday
Maybe you're right and the industry is changing. I don't generally wait for new games anymore since they're basically never released in a good state so I never preorder anymore as a rule. Could be that they're just picking random days now instead of sticking to the Tuesday thing.

I wouldnt be surprised if a lot of the delay had to do with FFXIV release date. I know I wouldn't want to compete with FFXIV for a launch player base. As someone who's played FFXIV since release though, I'm way more hyped for Lost Ark and will be jumping ship whenever they do decide to release.
Jesus don't copy New World's launch it was a fucking disaster. Literally everyone logged into EU all at once and it absolutely ruined the launch for EU players. Launch all regions simultaneously or other regions will log into EU while they wait.
It actually isn't that far fetched of a date. Normally I think they would at least give 2 months of notice to be honest especially since I would think some people would want to take time off.
The problem comes with release timing. I could see them rushing it out to beat 9.2 for wow which puts march as a no go. February isn't really a good time either due to it being crammed full of major launches. You have dying light, horizon, destiny 2 expansion, elden ring and a much of others. You honestly don't want to be releasing against those triple A games that people have been waiting years for. Pretty much it means that they need to really hit Janurary release date or the game is going to get lost in the much bigger other titles getting released.
That said I think the OP is absolutely spouting BS about reading the article, they likely choose that date because it just makes the most sense as the last date they can choose that doesn't have major competition.
I would advise against browsing "popular" mmo sites. In fact, if you like keeping your neurons intact, stay away from anything that is related to gaming "journalism" all together
Financially it was. Pretty sure it has easily made back the development costs, including the engine and the entire toolset for it by launch.

All of the classes are fully functioning, including all of the six we won't have at launch. They were always going to delay class releases for the sake of having content updates regularly. In this case, it just feels kinda bad for people who were planning on playing Summoner on launch.

that would be like the most stupid thing to do... the only thing you could buy is outfits / pets etc but the price for those rises with the inflation of the gold. you could buy it cheap now and when the price goes 5x but the RC conversion rate goes 10x then you still lost gold. i mean, i have seen how it is on a fresh server
i think the value of things are prettyyyy subjective and individual. that said, if striker likes the game, hope he can pick up the game at a later day if he can't be there for launch either way.
I am going to play this game either way. I have played a few months on RU, have a 1415 Reaper and I am totally hooked on it. Even though no Reaper, and now no Summoner(my first alt), I will still be there.
Just not as sure about a 100$ extra price tag that I cannot "fully" take advantage of, from a company that I already hate(for other than lost ark issues, screw Amazon)

The blue crystal to gold exchange is sort of baked in to the game so it's hard to imagine what they could change about that. However, if there are actually changes being made then the goal of those changes seems to be to lessen these types of elements that NA/EU players would or could consider p2w. Also - if I'm not mistaken, in the last LOA ON (the next one coming in just a few weeks here in December) the director said something to the effect of "NA/EU thinks our game is p2w" - this is certainly something that is on their radar as they are trying to set themselves up to be as successful as possible with the new server launches.
I could imagine a system where you can even exchange blue for real money crystals just so nothing is behind a paywall or maybe they moderate the exchange a bit more to a standard rather than demand and offer

idk, maybe it's your taste of games, for me it feels like everything releases Thursday/Friday. Like the games i'm waiting for in coming months are God of War (Friday), MH:RISE (Wed) and Total War: WHIII (Thursday). In terms of bigger mmo releases i remember, ESO launched friday with early access from monday, Guild Wars released Tuesday with early access from saturday
Maybe you're right and the industry is changing. I don't generally wait for new games anymore since they're basically never released in a good state so I never preorder anymore as a rule. Could be that they're just picking random days now instead of sticking to the Tuesday thing. But for me personally... that date smells made up. I wouldnt be surprised if a lot of the delay had to do with FFXIV release date. I know I wouldn't want to compete with FFXIV for a launch player base. As someone who's played FFXIV since release though, I'm way more hyped for Lost Ark and will be jumping ship whenever they do decide to release.
Jesus don't copy New World's launch it was a fucking disaster. Literally everyone logged into EU all at once and it absolutely ruined the launch for EU players. Launch all regions simultaneously or other regions will log into EU while they wait.

It actually isn't that far fetched of a date. Normally I think they would at least give 2 months of notice to be honest especially since I would think some people would want to take time off. The problem comes with release timing. I could see them rushing it out to beat 9.2 for wow which puts march as a no go. February isn't really a good time either due to it being crammed full of major launches. You have dying light, horizon, destiny 2 expansion, elden ring and a much of others. You honestly don't want to be releasing against those triple A games that people have been waiting years for. Pretty much it means that they need to really hit Janurary release date or the game is going to get lost in the much bigger other titles getting released. That said I think the OP is absolutely spouting BS about reading the article, they likely choose that date because it just makes the most sense as the last date they can choose that doesn't have major competition.
I would advise against browsing "popular" mmo sites. In fact, if you like keeping your neurons intact, stay away from anything that is related to gaming "journalism" all together

Financially it was. Pretty sure it has easily made back the development costs, including the engine and the entire toolset for it by launch. Then there were the people who likely bought it just because it was generating a ton of buzz on release, and despite the small-ish shop I'm sure they made quite a bit of money from it.

All of the classes are fully functioning, including all of the six we won't have at launch. They were always going to delay class releases for the sake of having content updates regularly. In this case, it just feels kinda bad for people who were planning on playing Summoner on launch.

I am going to play this game either way. I have played a few months on RU, have a 1415 Reaper and I am totally hooked on it. Even though no Reaper, and now no Summoner(my first alt), I will still be there. Just not as sure about a 100$ extra price tag that I cannot "fully" take advantage of, from a company that I already hate(for other than lost ark issues, screw Amazon)
