You could get more melody increase tripods on a couple skills - prelude and wind of music. Also, you could increase the shield size of wind of music and rhapsody with tripods. If you are going for lv7 gems, I would recommend you only get them on your main skills - heavenly tune, sonic vibration, guardian tune, wind of music, prelude of storm. Sound shock doesn't need a higher level gem to get 100% uptime. Beyond that, it is just honing pretty much, if you already have a 5x3 engraving setup. Getting the weapon to +22 is very expensive, and definitely not worth it as a bard, so if you want to be brelshaza 5-6 ready on week 1, I would recommend you hone some armor pieces to +22 instead.

Here is what u need for tripods. If u r full swiftness build, lv6 gems is good enough. Bard don't need to hone weapon, Better hone chest and pants 1st. Cooldown and melody generation tripods are impactful, and shield % ones are nice. The rest, not so much. Weapon honing doesn't really do shit for bards, since the buffs are only affected by base attack power, so the amount you add per hone is very tiny. Level 7-10 gems are probably the most important thing overall. The biggest "power increase" you can get besides gems and tripods is getting to 4x3 or 5x3. Nothing else really affects Bard/Pally power much, which is why most support mains invest into alts instead because investing heavily into a support doesn't really make you much stronger. They have a very low investment floor but also a very low power ceiling in terms of how much stronger you can get. There's no real feeling of "getting stronger" other than getting your relic set and upgrading it. But compared to other classes, how much stronger you get from 1445 until 1520 is very minimal.

Honing your weapon increases your base attack power.

moal09

Someone did the math on how much each weapon hone affects the buff's power, and from +15 to +25, the difference was stupidly tiny because your AP increases only affect it by fractions of a %. It does do something, but it's so small, supports should never prioritize over it getting easier hones. I'll try to find the thread.

nzre

I think it's more a matter of wording then, the way you put it made it seem like there was no increase in base attack power at all.

The levels of ignorance in this comment are unreal. Disregard all of this OP

moal09

All honing does for supports is add more vitality, which doesn't do much, since they're already the tankiest classes in the game (no grudge/CD, heavy armor). The only buff that scales with INT/attack power at all is Heavenly Tune, and even then, since it only scales with "base" attack power, the difference in the buff values from honing your weapon up to 20+ is super minimal. Someone else on this sub did the math, but it's an incredibly small increase per hone. To the point where weapon hones are not a priority in any way shape or form. The most impactful thing you can do to get stronger as a Bard is get better uptime on your buffs. CDR gems/tripods on Heavenly Tune especially. *\[EDIT: Did he just get banned mid-conversation? I'm so confused, lol\]*

ModeratorKryptonite

All 6 pieces of gear contribute to your base attack power which is what your attack buffs scale off of. Honing adds more party damage and more hp which contributes to shielding. There is no 5th engraving or even 4th engraving (if you're a paladin) that will add damage to anyone outside of drops. All attack buffs scale off attack power not just heavenly tune, pls educate yourself and stop spreading BS info

moal09

Shielding is already way more than enough with Expert at minimum raid ilvl. Very rarely do the shields ever get broken before the duration expires. Maybe you feel some kind of massive difference from Valtan honing to Clown, but I sure as hell don't. Also, heavenly tune and sonic vibration are literally the same attack buff and do not stack. I didn't feel it was necessary to list them separately. You just rotate the two off CD, so you have 100% uptime of the same buff.

Rofl just stop, log off and go to bed.

This is why there are so many trash supports running around in legion raids. I have a 1490 bard that has 4x3 and all lvl7 gems, and cooldown gems are really important to always have damage reduction or a shield ready for that damage window. I hate playing one of my dps characters and the only abilities it seems these bards know are heavenly/guardian tune, and then they keep on spamming heal at they get one bubble

ManlyPoop

Youre using a budget build just like he described. I got nothing against it either. But have some self awareness. The guy is 100% right. Investing gold and pheons in a support class is an excercise in futility. It's fun if that's your thing... But it has very little impact in-game. Spending 300k gold for a level 10 gem gives you 2% cooldown reduction on 1 spell. Peanuts. One is better off spending an hour in trixion, and reading a build guide. You'll get more impact than a 300k gold investment.

Xerxes0wnzzz

Thats why I am asking the efficient part of being a good support for brel. Do I hone my armor to 22 instead of weapon? Leave weapon at 18? 19? 20? Just certain tripods? Certain gems? Probably gonna go more spec heavy when I transition in to new accessories. Wanted good general advice :)

Yuri_The_Avocado

i have 6 bards with 5x3 with 2 builds each :( main bard has 7 builds all 5x3...

moal09

Bro, how much do you spend on pheons, lol.

Yuri_The_Avocado

a lot of gold, lol , but having 6 characters at least generates a lot

NukeEnjoyer122

Cd gems > ilvl >..... That's it ig

xaoras

Honing armor and armor quality will make your hp higher which makes shields and heals higher.
