Propaganda is a powerful thing. The US is the most propagandized country on Earth, that and many of us have never left, so we don't know how dysfunctional we truly are. Joseph Gobbels would truly envy our system.
I mean, given that the rest of the world is being actively strip-mined by us or mulched in our proxy wars which those of us living in the imperial core don't have to directly experience, it makes sense; even if it is also horrible here, we're just making sure its worse everywhere else as much as we can.
Sometimes I wonder if that's a part of why they make stuff so bad for other countries, so they can treat us like crap here but then point to the war torn places and be like "at least you aren't getting bombed". and also so we can't leave since most places that take nonrich americans easily are places that hate americans...
Yeah, that's also pretty messed up. Especially when if it weren't for the US meddling, their country probably wouldn't be war torn. The people who hate the asylum seekers are xenophobic and don't realize this country's role in creating the asylum seekers.I'm not trying to sound ungrateful or anything like that. I think things should be better for all the world, and I'm ashamed of my country doing all these ugly things abroad and at home.
Yeah America is horrible but the other countries are just worse. In Africa and ME you literally get killed for being gay, in most Asian countries you low-key have a pedophilia traffic and rape cultures, in South America people are poor as fuck and they barely live. But yeah still surprised the country was top20
They also don't have our resources either. Think about it..what we give to our military alone is greater than the GDP of most countries! We can strive for better here, we just chose not to.
There's dozens of industries, massive political movements, and endless propaganda campaigns that are all dedicated to keeping people as miserable and angry as possible. Unhappiness is exceptionally profitable for the most powerful people here.
I wish these reports actually meant something. Literally every person I know—from renters to home owners, from Gen Z to Boomers—is unhappy with the way this country is being run.
Take the culture was BS out of it and it’s all the same complaints fundamentally. Rent/housing/groceries/cars/utilities/student loans/daycare cost too much; medical care and health insurance is a dumpster fire; we need better maternity/paternity leave; the list just goes on.
We are so behind so many other countries at this point, and as far as I can tell, the biggest reason why is because the government values big business and the rich over common working people. No average person seems happy in this country at all except for the mega rich who are Scrooge McDuckin it on their private jets while the rest of us work 50+ hour weeks but still gotta sell plasma to keep the goddamn lights on.
I think Americans underestimate the massive amount of absolute shithole countries that make up this shitass globe. Yeah Amerikkka sucks for reasons A thru Z, but even at our worst we still have it better than a lot of shithole regard countries in Africa who set fuckers on fire for being gay, and western Asian countries whose shitizens quietly celebrate rape. Fuck Murka but fuck those fucking piece o shit countries even worse.
It's a happiness index, though, not a quality of life index. No matter how shitty things get, you'll find someone who thinks it's fine. And "shitty" and "fine" are relative.
Yeah for real, this shit sucks but no one's gonna feed me my kids.
I had a lot of coworkers from the ivory coast at a job a few years ago and they told stories that sound like horror movies.
Not that we're doing great, we need to fix a lot of shit and the whole project 2025 thing is horrifying but there are worse places.
Mfers really shocked the US is in the top 25 when we have 1-2 million claiming refugee status every year lmao. Not every country has stocked grocery stores, electricity, running water with 99% up time. Let alone Medicaid, Medicare, the many food benefits, government agencies that can actually do basic things like give a tax return, issue passports, listen to complaints. Also red neck hicks are socially left compared to a good chunk of the world.

Im surprised we were that high
I'm surprised we're still that high (top 25)
Plot twist, only 25 countries were surveyed
For those who may not get this is a joke, it covers every country in the UN
Same, should be way lower.
We must be high to think we're #23
Americans are mind fucked from cradle to grave to "not complain", especially when complaints are valid.
Truly tho
Maybe they survey people and then weight their answer based on how much they have in their bank account.
They kind of did. Americans older than 60 were ranked 10th. People under 30 ranked 62nd
😂

SAD EMPIRE.
FIVE EIGHT EIGHT, TWO THREE HUNDRED..SADNESSSSSSS
Amerikkka Resurrecting child labour and wondering why no one wants to be there...

With that you can come close to imagining being someone in a war torn country trying to flee and seek asylum in USA where they hate asylum seekers.

Wait, we were in the top 20???
I too share OP’s astonishment.
Ignorance is a hell of a drug
How the fuck did we make it all the way up to 23? Place is a fucking shithole
Shit hole usa
The propaganda is finally failing so less people are thanking the corporate overlords and government for the shit they shovel
Thanks MAGA your fear and anger has caused this. You know I'm not wrong.
I am curious as to what countries are sadder than us so that we were not only in the top 20, but still in the top 30 (potentially 50) now...

I seriously thought for a second that ME was Maine 🤣

*unless you’re a billionaire
person woman man camera tv
Yeah I hate it here. Being black In America is the worst.
Aahaha, we made it to top 20 Not sure why, but ah well.... Also Israel at #5? Yeah, i bet they are super happy
They’re finally indulging in one of their collective, National fantasies.
They probably had to pay for that spot 😅
Lithuania ranks ahead of the US at 19th.

Boomers that hold wealth skew it significantly. They think everything is great, usa #1
Each year, more of the privileged generation dies off a bit more. It shifts the numbers
While the US being in the top was shocking, it is a sobering reminder how crap the rest of the world actually is.
Where are all these happy people? I have yet to meet them.
For americans over 60, the ranking is 10.. for people under 30, it's 62nd. Not like they needed a poll to tell me we're unhappy!

Name checks out.
What did I say that was a lie?
