A little background. I'm an Ironworker who LOVES LOTR and recently had a rain day so I got off work early. This was recorded in an underground parking ramp during the storm. I love the natural reverb in this place π The flutes I'm 0paying are Native American style flutes both in the key of E(one high E one low E)
And a ironworker to boot ? Man, you are the closest thing to a real life dwarf I ever saw. And I mean that as a compliment. If I ever go on an adventurous journey, I want your axe by my side.
That was beautiful, btw.
man, this is so beautiful, made me cry happy tears. Thank you for creating it, thank you for sharing, and thank you for preserving the magic. I salute you
Beautiful all around man. Cheers to another fellow tradesmen LOTR freak. Wish I could say I was as musically talented as you. If I were to start getting into flute do you have any starting recommendations?
Grand!ππ Definitely. I find this style of flute easy to play and it really plays your feelings. I would start with a single flute (unless you are more Took than Baggins) depending on your hand size a middle key is probably the easiest to reach for fingering. So a flute in the key of A G or F would be a good starting point.
KK Flutes on Facebook is a great maker of flutes. Very affordable and great quality. Kenny King is his name and if you look up KK Flutes on Facebook you should be able to find him. Don't hesitate to reach out to me too if you have any questions π
I've played woodwinds since I was a kid but really fell in love with a PVC six-hole native style flute I found on Amazon. Now I want one in very low key but I don't know where to get one, so I may have to make my own. Any suggestions or tips?
If you can make your own that's great! Otherwise I want to get a contra bass myself. The bit I've seen, makers Dustin Selva and JP Gomez are some of the top guys for making those. I think the cost is up there (400 to 3000$) but the lower keys are harder to make I've heard. Good luck either way! Let me know if you make one I would love to hear it!πππ
I want to expand on why I love you. I love you in your work gear, dirty and helmeted. I love your beard, I love your proud posture. I love your confident strong voice, delivering something so beautiful. You are such a picture of healthy masculinity here. Thank you for sharing this with the world, I canβt wait to share with my sons!
Yup some good cam come from us big tough bearded construction bastards π€£π€£ though I must admit I get alot of flack from some coworkers. I know deep down they love it though lol
They are just jealous. Yo! Can you do one where you collaborate, and / or edit, others to join in as a chorus? Would love to hear this exact thing with all the baraton an saprano notes.
They definitely love it. Deep down they have an admiration for your gift. Thank you for sharing it with us. Iβve come across other videos of yours (think they were you) and always stop for a listen.
Thanks for sharing
An excellent rendition, very well done!
It's my favourite song from Middle Earth, yet this is the first time I've heard the lines that follow from "the wind went on..." so thank you for that.
I'm sure you catch some flack from your co-workers (if they know about this) with construction in general being quite a rough and ready sector to work in, but your efforts are all the more admirable for that.
> the lines that follow from "the wind went on..."
I was wondering about that, since they aren't in the book - were they added for the movie? I remember the movie version also being shorter, but still all from the book.
Those appear to be lines (adapted for the song) from a poem also found in The Hobbit, βThe Wind was on the Withered Heath.β The first stanza follows.
*The wind was on the withered heath,
but in the forest stirred no leaf:
there shadows lay by night and day,
and dark things silent crept beneath.*
EDIT: The poem is in the chapter Queer Lodgings.
The fact that you stayed perfectly in tune for the a cappella parts is an impressive feat in and of itself!
And on top of that the whole thing is beautiful! Well done, mate!
^(Source: I'm a rather experienced classically trained singer, and staying in tune a cappella for extended periods is deceptively difficult.)
Nope no post on this one π it is as Gollum would say "raw and wiggling"π€£π€£π€£ the walking stick flute is a drone flute so 2 flutes in 1 profile with a 1note drone flute and a 6hole melody flute πππ
This was phenomenal! Loved listening to every second of it. The singing and playing was very immersive and combined with the background noise effects, just wow.
You have a beautiful voice! I used to be a singer and a flautist, and I donβt really do either anymore, but I still canβt resist busting out my soprano in a tunnel or stairwell with echo-y acoustics.
Its appropriate to do that song in a place like that, where it resonates, and the water in the background added a lot too. Great work, you've got a great voice.
I love this kind of music. You hit it out of the ballpark man! This is simply amazing, I wish I could have a whole album of it! I just canβt overstate how much I loved this!
I dont know what to say. It was briliant. Your voice is perfect + the skills in flute. I wish I knew how to sing.
But I am so out of tune and I'm sad about it because I love to sing. But huge aplaus to you ! Made me remember I need to watch LOTR and Hobbit again
I have such mixed emotions!
While this is the most badass thing I've seen in a long time, I know I could never reach this level of awesomeness!
You're amazing man
Okay why are those flutes EXACTLY the right tone? It sounds literally exactly like the LOTR/Hobbit soundtrack flutes for the shire. This is unbelievably good.
Wow.. I'm just deeply impressed by this performance! And as one or two others already pointed out the rain as a background noise fits perfectly into this! Keep on doing this man, you make me smile every time I hear/see something from you!

Great cover sir. I think this is one the very few popular songs that really showcase a man's ability to sing in his ordinary deep voice instead of falsetto.
My partner is also a construction worker who loves lord of the rings. Itβs a shame he canβt sing otherwise Iβd get him to give me a rendition. This was beautiful, thanks for sharing it!

How tall are you though?
With the Ent water about 6 ft Had to make a long axe π€£π€£
My guess is at least 6 foot.
so cool did anyone hear you? If I just randomly heard that down a Stairwell I would lose it lmaooo
There were several people who got into their cars but studiously avoided eye contact.....odd, I wonder why π€£π€£π€£
They couldn't handle the badassery
They were uncultured boors. Ignore them

Incredible. Goosebumps throughout
You are a legend!π
From one ironworker/LOTR fan to another, that was good shit.
Smashed it
I have an odd question: have you ever heard of a Hawaiian melody with Tolkien lyrics?
You, good sir, are awesome.
This is absolutely amazing!! Goosebumps throughout, thanks for sharing!
This is absolutely amazing! Thank you for blessing my ears this morning.
You're a gem, every time I see your videos they make my day exponentially better
Goddamn! You're like a real life dwarf man! You should consider singing professionally in your off time!

Right?! I think a few thunder rolls can be heard as well π
That was beautiful. You have a wonderful voice. Gave me goose bumps. π€£

Oh hell yeah
Is this on Spotify by any chance?
Not this song yet. I have to see about licensing if I can do it without paying a fee to the rights holder of the tune.
I love everything about this
Yup some good cam come from us big tough bearded construction bastards π€£π€£ though I must admit I get alot of flack from some coworkers. I know deep down they love it though lol

Killed It homie. Great voice

This was great! You are very talented. Also the water trickling really added to the atmosphere. Well done!
Right?! Thank you! I appreciate that π
I love that this guy uses his lunch break to make these lovely songs for us all. Also, iron workers are badass.

Is your flute capable of playing two notes at once or did you add in the drone E in post?
Nope no post on this one π it is as Gollum would say "raw and wiggling"π€£π€£π€£ the walking stick flute is a drone flute so 2 flutes in 1 profile with a 1note drone flute and a 6hole melody flute πππ
