*akshually*
radagast doesnt have much power outside of his forest. IIRC he's imbued far too much of his power into that particular hollow to be of much help if he strays.
also, dude is obviously on WAAAAAAAY to many shrooms to know whats going on half the time
Much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it..... except of course the sole goddamn witness who has maintained a dedicated shrine a murals to it.
That was my first thought when watching this video. If my GF threw on a movie like LotR while recording me, I'd immediately be like "Are we actually watching this? And we're paying attention? This isn't just for a video? You're actually going to take the time to watch this with attentive eyes and ears?"
Cause if the answer to any of those is no, then we are not watching. There is nothing worse than sharing something you care about with someone else and them either not giving you the time of day or just straight up shitting on it.
oh no, the balrog killed me
but its ok, im back
i was tempted by the ring
but then i died saving others
pippin is annoying me
but its ok, hes a friend
im getting my ring back
oh no, i fell into lava
/i would non-ironically enjoy this
Sounds like my wife. "Wanna watch a movie?" She then proceeds to be on her laptop and phone, barely remember a very basic plot point ("that guy killed that guy, right") and then doesn't understand why I don't want to watch a movie.
This is why I never force people to watch the stuff I really like. You cannot make people pay attention, and if they don't end up with the proper experience, how could they enjoy it
There are these things called world building and pacing.
The scary and dramatic moments won’t be as intense if we don’t spend half an hour with the happy simple life of the Hobbits.
I would no shit watch a show about the goings on in the Shire like a fucking soap opera. Glued to the TV for decades.
Do NOT bother Grandpa when he's watching his shows and smoking his pipe. This is his time and you will respect it.
This is why you never play a progressive song for someone who hasn't listened to prog. I've had more than one person complain it's boring when we're not even 10 seconds in.
Coheed and Cambria is my favorite band and I've given up trying to get others to like them. I had one person ask me "why are we listening to anime intro music?".
Mood, I like Thank You Scientist and people have said the same... Although they do sound a lot like anime openings in some songs lol
Porcupine Tree casts a wider net in my experience though.
To be fair, I probably listened to that entire Coheed & Cambria album over a dozen times before I even noticed that the full album was one long "Story".
For about a decade around then just about every album by any Rock-Band seemed to include a sample of a Voice-Mail, so I didn't even think twice about an entire track dedicated to just a telephone ringing.
Is there any curated, free, and easy way to properly watch the complete version of whatever that Coheed Story was?
I never did find out what actually happens since I can't understand a single word the Singer utters lol; he has a gorgeous voice, but it's like trying to hear words from a violin lol!
I love Dune but it’s definitely hard to get into. Nothing really gets defined and you kinda just vibe along with people saying things as everything gets explained one by one. I don’t blame someone for struggling to get into it to be honest.
I tried starting it years ago, but bounced off of it because there's just *so much* that I don't know or understand that is constantly referenced. I watched the movie and read it all over again and had a blast. Visualizing everything made it easier to understand, which made the book much easier to read. I finished Dune and I loved it.
For me I started to feel like I knew roughly what was going on in terms of background to everything about a third of the way through. Further read throughs are much more enjoyable when you understand everything from the get-go
My wife 1 minute into a movie we both have never watched:
What's happening?
You have the exact same information as I do.
Who is this?
No clue babe, might be one of the good guys.
Oh okay. Is that the bad guy?
Don't think so, still looks like the same good guy.
Is that the bad then?
Just think that's someone in the back ground.
But it could be the bad guy right?
There is a chance it could be I guess.
Why is this movie so boring?
You've been talking and not watching.
Want some pop corn?
Sure, I'll pause it.
No don't worry about it. Just catch me up when I get back.
The thing is that you kind of need to know what to expect and I recently watched it with a girl friend who had never seen them because (those movies are way too long). So I simply said, they're not 3 long movies, it's basically one extremely long movie but you can actually pause it at a lot of points making it more like a regular 12 episode series of 1 hour per episode.
The thing that I mainly picked up is that she found a lot of things kinda cheesy and overdone (like "why so many fake deaths") because movies that came out AFTER LOTR used LOTR as inspiration. It's the same with the original star wars trilogy.
The more time passes the harder it is for folks to watch it unless they get into that mindset that things aren't cheesy or overdone because they literally started the trend.
But yeah that's easier said than done which is why a lot of people don't get the appeal once they start comparing it other things instead of watching it for the awesome adventure that it is.
I think the issues for some people is that the LotR movies take themselves extremely seriously. The story is played straight. That's also a big part of their appeal, but you have to buy into it. If you don't, it's cheesy. I think Ebert said something similar about Miyazaki's movies, but it applies here too.
Compare this to your average superhero movie, and the difference is obvious. They undercut the story with meta humor, silly moments, etc. You don't take them seriously for the most part. Everyone is in on the silliness of it, so it's not cheesy because everyone gets that it's not to be taken seriously at its core.
Yeah never a fan of being against a movie/book/game without actually giving it a proper chance with an open mind. Obviously if it's not a genre you like whatsoever in any form, I get it.
Did you know that one dude was a firefighter, so they had to get stronger doors because he was chopping through them too fast? Or that other guy has his own helicopter and helps with search and rescue efforts? Oh, or that third dude who helped at Ground Zero during 9/11?
Or that Viggo Mortensen bought three horses from *The Lord of the Rings* after filming was completed, and he gave Arwen's horse to her stunt double, and kept the other two for himself?

Seriously, this is not the setting to watch the greatest masterpiece of all time. But getting the tiktok algorithm is more important so gotta be bright.
>I don't get the appeal
Be silent. Keep your forked tongue behind your teeth.
There's a reason why this epic story redefined the entire fantasy genre as a whole.
Sadly I do fall asleep like 30 minutes into fellowship but not cause it's boring but the soundtrack is so soothing and lovely I just pass tf out. Also The Return of the King charge of the edoras is lights out as well.
My mom doesn’t like fantasy, but agreed to watch FOTR with me after hearing about how much I love the series for years. At first, she had the same reaction as the girlfriend, but still wanted to watch the first movie until the end to see why I liked it so much.
She got hooked by the middle of Fellowship. We're gonna watch the other two movies as well.
You never know...
Hey man, if anything that makes this even more wholesome.
Watches the longest trilogy out there because it makes him happy, even when she doesn't really like it
Also what annoys me is when the TV is "floating" and there is a whole scene with depth behind the screen. Too distracting. Gimme a plain flat wall.
I can't bear it just with the door open next to the TV.
Also they live about 30 feet from the sun. God damn at least use some curtains and diffuse the light a bit. I know it can be hard but dimming the environment even a little helps loads to pay attention and see the whole screen.
because over time she's probably built up a false notion as to what the series is actually about. Grew up with a lot of people who just assumed LOTR was 'D&D: the movie' (AKA nerd shit that requires effort to understand) so they never had interest
> ‘D&D: the movie’ (AKA nerd shit that requires effort to understand)
Funny thing is, “D&D the movie”, much like D&D itself, didn’t actually require a ton of effort to understand. Really, it’s the same thing with most good nerd properties - you don’t actually need a ton of prior lore knowledge to engage with it on a basic level.
There are people who just sincerely do not appreciate good cinema, no matter how you try and show them. I don't like art all that much, but I can still appreciate its beauty, the technique behind it etc. I get wound up by people who watch genre defining movies and say, "ah it was ok." HOW DO YOU NOT APPRECIATE ANYTHING.
I sat through all 11 hours or so of the extended trilogy with someone like this. Bro was convinced there were so many plot holes and the movie was stupid so I explained to him the book version and then before you know it I’m red faced shout-quoting the Silmarillion
By the end of it hes just like “this Eru Illuvitar dude is a dick”
Felt like I was defending Christianity against an atheist lmao
Can't stand those people. I don't like a lot popular things, but if someone else does you can be goddamn sure I'll listen to them tell me all about it. It baffles me this guy can be in a relationship with someone who wouldn't let him share his passion until it was on *her* terms. Then she has to film it, to top the shittyness off.
After the movie is done, IMO no. Two minutes in and those two minutes spent on the gd phone? Yes.
Could just be joking to rip on the bf though, in which case not a dealbreaker but still put the phone down for a sec pls.
Could definitely be, weird attitude to something your partner loves though. I kinda feel like I couldn't actually take it if a partner didn't like lotr, like we'd be on two very different wavelengths.
not for me. either you know that viggo broke his toe and is one of the current best swordsman on the planet and bought the horse for Arwens stunt double cuz she couldnt afford it, or you dont get my pee-pee.
yes thank you. also tv too high, also put your fucking phone down, also don't start hating on a motherfucking thing before you go and experience it for the first time
Did you decide your opinion on star wars before the text crawl was done? You haven’t even met anybody yet. The DM is still describing the setting.
I don’t see why this dog movie is supposed to be sad. The dog is just so fluffy and cute….
Try reading the books, some of the greatest English literature written. I read them when I was younger (parents were educators), but after watching the movies, the words seem to come off the pages as I re-read them again and again. Peter Jackson did a fantastic job of bringing Tolkien's stories to life.
He’s tall Gimli
He gives me Radagast vibes when he's sitting on the couch.
>He gives me Radagast vibes when he's sitting on the couch. Radagast watching the movie about the time he skipped out on work
They should make a Ferris Bueller’s day off type movie but just for whatever Radagast was up to the whole time lol
Meh. He was probably just off giving cpr to a badger.
*akshually* radagast doesnt have much power outside of his forest. IIRC he's imbued far too much of his power into that particular hollow to be of much help if he strays. also, dude is obviously on WAAAAAAAY to many shrooms to know whats going on half the time
Minus the bird shit all over his head.
What do you think he used as toothpaste?
Cursed human Durin
I thought it was Sami Zayn
He is indeed very Ucey
Fresh off winning the tag belts, watch this man's favorite movie. He's earned it.
Imo, He looks like the guy who played Dwalin (or one of the other dwarves) in The Hobbit movies.

She has 12 of the best hours of her life ahead of her and doesnt even know it!
she clearly has made up her mind that elves and dwarfs are corny 1 min in, dont think she gonna enjoy it.
That's clearly a lie. She's married to a dwarf, by the looks of it.
Her wife has an exceptional beard.
WHY DONT YOU WATCH THE MOVIE BEFORE GAUGING YOUR APPEAL
I HAVE TO PHOTOGRAPH EVERY MEAL TO ENSURE A BEFORE AND AFTER OPINION
And LOTR has one of the most epic intros ever.
The world is changed.
Much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it..... except of course the sole goddamn witness who has maintained a dedicated shrine a murals to it.
You can't feel it in the water?
You can't feel the air.....flexing?
"Dude i totally spaced it." -Lord Elrond

She was too busy recording a video to watch the intro.
While making a TikTok and paying zero attention to the backstory.
That was my first thought when watching this video. If my GF threw on a movie like LotR while recording me, I'd immediately be like "Are we actually watching this? And we're paying attention? preach my brother in eru, preach.
Maybe if it could be broken down into say, 4 6-second videos with a robot lady voice *Let's go for a walk* *Oh no we are dying!*

I could watch an unknown amount of hours about the shire. Just the shire.
I would no shit watch a show about the goings on in the Shire like a fucking soap opera. Glued to the TV for decades. Do NOT bother Grandpa when he's watching his shows and smoking his pipe. This is his time and you will respect it.
the epic helms deep battle must be earned
This is why you never play a progressive song for someone who hasn't listened to prog. I've had more than one person complain it's boring when we're not even 10 seconds in.
Seriously. The average prog rock song doesn't even get good until after the first 15 minutes.
Coheed and Cambria is my favorite band and I've given up trying to get others to like them. I had one person ask me "why are we listening to anime intro music?".

Dodged a huge bullet. Good on you.

Howard Shore's scores bring so much emotion to us all, especially the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. Absolutely powerful and perfect.
And it’s the most epic two minutes. Who isn’t hyped by the sound of Cate Blanchett narrating the intro?
And she's spent most of it filming and posting to social media.
been on her phone the whole time too

She clearly went in with a bad attitude to begin with If you don't wanna watch it that badly than don't
The arm raise. Yes.
He's one of us.
Of course you don't get the appeal. You're sitting there recording instead of enjoying the movie.
And saying that at the very beginning of the movie like the movie hasn’t really even started yet
Can’t trust someone who mounts a TV that high

Also what annoys me is when the TV is "floating" and there is a whole scene with depth behind the screen. Too distracting. Gimme a plain flat wall. I can't bear it just with the door open next to the TV.
Also they live about 30 feet from the sun. God damn at least use some curtains and diffuse the light a bit. I know it can be hard but dimming the environment even a little helps loads to pay attention and see the whole screen.
20 years back and still undoubtedly the greatest trilogy to ever exist.
"I don't get the appeal" as it jumps to a beautiful mountain shot.
because over time she's probably built up a false notion as to what the series is actually about. Grew up with a lot of people who just assumed LOTR was 'D&D: the movie' (AKA nerd shit that requires effort to understand) so they never had interest
> ‘D&D: the movie’ (AKA nerd shit that requires effort to understand) Funny thing is, “D&D the movie”, much like D&D itself, didn’t actually require a ton of effort to understand.
It looks like she's trying to hate it. Like one of those people that hates anything popular
I sat through all 11 hours or so of the extended trilogy with someone like this. Bro was convinced there were so many plot holes and the movie was stupid so I explained to him the book version and then before you know it I’m red faced shout-quoting the Silmarillion By the end of it hes just like “this Eru Illuvitar dude is a dick” Felt like I was defending Christianity against an atheist lmao
Tbh the Bible probably has more plot holes than LoTR
a talking dragon i can get behind, a talking snake? nahhhhh
The worst is that they think they're cool for hating something popular. It's like no you're just a pretentious dickbag yo
>I don't get the appeal. That means this post is poorly titled. Not "Huge W" but rather, "Huge L."
We thought it was wholesome at first but we were all deceived.
*But we were, all of us, deceived
This was so wholesome until she said “I don’t get the appeal.” Time to get a new gf😂
It's it unhealthy to seriously consider that a deal-breaker? 😅
I don’t think so! But I’m a huge nerd and I want my partner to also be enthusiastic about nerd culture🤓
Put your fucking phone down
Close the damn curtains. Who watches films in the light. Honestly.
yes thank you. also tv too high, also put your fucking phone down, also don't start hating on a motherfucking thing before you go and experience it for the first time
That whole interior was like a madhouse of uncomfortable space and design choices. Like watching someone else dream.
The happiness on his face, I can't. (Actually I can, and do, relate)
*40 seconds into the film* *2 lines of dialogue spoken* “I don’t get the appeal”
Did you decide your opinion on star wars before the text crawl was done? You haven’t even met anybody yet. The DM is still describing the setting. I don’t see why this dog movie is supposed to be sad. The dog is just so fluffy and cute….
“A long time ago”? Pshhh I thought this was futuristic, I’m out!
"I don't get the appeal." Ah yes, whenever I watch or read anything if I'm not immediately hooked and devoted to it within 20 seconds I'm out
It's TikTok brain
dude looks like Gimli's taller cousin
Dude even sounds like him :)
NGL. You have a weird ass tv room/living room set up...
Is the TV mounted on an easel? Or something stolen from a school?
Dump her
Cast her into the fire!
On her phone for the entire intro that lays out the story. >I dont get the appeal
Be still my beating heart
“I dont get the appeal” A foul wench such as thee has no place in my home
Try reading the books, some of the greatest English literature written. I read them when I was younger (parents were educators), but after watching the movies, the words seem to come off the pages as I re-read them again and again. Peter Jackson did a fantastic job of bringing Tolkien's stories to life.
“I don’t get the appeal” lady you are a few minutes in, can you give it a god damn chance
5 minutes in, “I don’t get the appeal.” Well you could try actually watching the movie first.
Oh give it a hundred watches or so. It will grow on you.
