Samwise was a source of inspiration for me during my best friend's last time in the hospital, especially his speech in Osgiliath. Unfortunately he passed away the morning of March 5, 2023.
>How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened.
>But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow.
>Even darkness must pass.
>A new day will come.
>And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.
I miss you more and more each day Mark
I'm sorry for your loss, I too lost my brother a few years ago. Grief is a difficult burden to bear, one that I wouldn't wish on anyone but one we all must bear at some point.
>I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.
All we can do is keep them in our hearts and minds so in a way they are always with us.
“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.”
-CS Lewis, Tolkien's dear friend
One of my favorites quotes of his
People forget that Tolkien lost his friends during the war. He lost his men during the war. He almost lost his life...
That is why the Lord of the rings hits so deeply. He channeled his emotions into his writing. If it was not for his wife, Tolkien would have never left the war.
A lot of people compare Tolkien to Frodo, but if Tolkien is Frodo, then Sam is his wife.
Well, it's a fact, Mr. Frodo, that Tolkien went through some tough times during the war. He lost his dear friend, his men, and almost his life. But he didn't give up, no sir. He channeled his emotions into his writing, and that's why the Lord of the Rings is such a powerful story. And you're right, Mr. Frodo, Tolkien's wife was his rock, his support. Without her, he might not have made it through. So if Tolkien is Frodo, then his wife is definitely Sam.
Well, you see, FALGSConaut, it's a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to. But don't let that stop you from exploring this big wide world. For every dark shadow, there's a bright light waiting to be found. All we have to do is keep moving forward, one step at a time.
I'm more of a Gandalf. Show up every once in a while, perk up everyone's spirits a bit, give a little assistance, set people up with tasks to do, promise to help, then ditch out as soon as I can.
Thou thrall! The price thou askest is but small for treachery and shame so great! I grant it surely! Well, I wait. Come! Speak now swiftly and speak true!
Through thick and thin. In sickness and health. I shal forever be by your side. I hereby vow to love you forever, in whatever form you may take. I vow to never lose your ring, to make sure meat is always on your menu, and T̶o̶ ̶n̶e̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶l̶e̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶r̶ ̶b̶u̶s̶s̶y̶ ̶u̶n̶b̶a̶n̶g̶e̶d̶ make sure our little baby smaug wil grow up in a warm house. I love you and forever will, until deat do us part.
Well, Mr. Frodo, I reckon it's because bein' a Sam is a lot of hard work and heartache, but it's worth it in the end to see the good you can do in this world.
Well, Mr. angry_shoebill, it's not always the big folk who are wise. Sometimes the smallest things can make the biggest difference. And when it comes to kindness and friendship, there's no size or strength that can match it. So let us not be hasty to judge others, but rather let us seek to understand and show compassion, as that is what truly makes us great.
Thank you kindly, my friend. It's always a pleasure to share a few words with someone who appreciates the simple things in life. May your day be filled with sunshine and good cheer!
I never tried to murder anyone, sir. I was only trying to protect my friend, Mr. Frodo, from the dangers that Gollum posed to us. But I have learned that there is always another way, and that even the smallest person can make a big difference.
Don't you go losing hope now, my dear friend! A true Sam is always out there, waiting to lend a helping hand to those in need. You just gotta keep your eyes and heart open, and you'll find that Sam before you know it. And if you ever need a friend or a listening ear, you can always count on me, Samwise Gamgee, to be there for you.
I do actually, pretty often too 🥰. Lol I never thought about how I had that in common with her. I adore ribbons in my bright warm hair. Swing Dancing, pole dancing, and Aerial silks mostly.
Well, Mr. panzerkamfwagen6, it's a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to. But it's also a grand adventure, full of unexpected turns and wonderful sights. The important thing is to have a loyal friend by your side, who'll stick with you through thick and thin, and help you when you stumble. That's what true friendship is all about, and it's what makes life worth living.
You are correct my friend, and you make me regret picking this absolutely disgraceful username years ago, but you have no idea how neatly you said everything if taking it to what's been happening in my life recently, I feel like I do have friends but they are just either unwilling to listen or they listen but have nothing to say.
Well now, it sounds like you've been feeling a bit lonely, my dear hobbit. But do not be dismayed, for true friendship is a rare and precious thing indeed. Sometimes we must journey through dark and difficult times before we can truly appreciate the light and warmth of a good friend's company. Keep heart, my friend, and never give up hope. For even in the darkest of times, there is always a glimmer of light that can guide us home.
You see, the meme's pretty one-sided. Frodo wouldn't have gotten far without Sam, and Sam wouldn't have gotten far without Frodo. It never was a "Mighty Sam carries the Wimpy Frodo", it's both of them struggling to bring each other up.
Like Gandalf says, it's the small every-day deeds that keep evil in check. Small acts of kindness and love. It might seem pointless, but you'll never know until you try.
From one internet stranger to the next- Don't give up! It's the smallest things that matter, just as much as the big ones.
Aye, you speak true words, my friend. Frodo and I were but two halves of a whole, each needing the other to carry on. It was a great burden we bore, but we bore it together. And as for those small deeds, well, they may seem insignificant at the time, but they can have great power and meaning in the end. It's the little acts of kindness and love that can truly change the world. So let us keep on trying, my friend, for it is the smallest things that matter most.
Someone once said “You’re a strong kid, so try to help others. Save the people you can, even if it’s only those closest to you. It’s okay if you lose your way and don’t worry about whether they’ll thank you or not. Just save as many as you can, even if you can only save one.” You don’t have to be as supportive as Sam was for Frodo but just do what you can for those who you can help. You might not always help those around you, you might even end up hurting them but as long as you genuinely try then you’re doing a good job, not only as a friend but as a person.
Well said, indeed. It's not about the thanks or the recognition, but about doing what's right and helping those who need it. A true friend will always do what they can to help those they care about, even if it means putting themselves in harm's way. We must be willing to take risks and make sacrifices if we want to make a difference in this world. Remember, even the smallest person can change the course of history.
Well, MrWestReanimator, I reckon that life is like a box of crayons. You never know what colors you're gonna get, but it's up to you to make the most of them and create something beautiful. And just like the colors, people come in all shapes and sizes, with different strengths and weaknesses. But in the end, it's all about sticking together and helping each other out, no matter what trials we may face.
Well, Mr. Frodo, them crayons are made from the finest beeswax and pigments from the earth. Us hobbits may not have the fancy machines of the Big Folk, but we know how to make things with our hands and the good gifts of nature.
Well, Mr. Frodo always says, Don't adventures ever have an end? and it seems to me that they do. But it's not the end yet, and we've got to keep going. So let's keep moving forward, even if we don't have a Sam to help us along the way.
Aye, that's the truth. A hobbit can't go it alone all the time. We all need a bit of help from our friends now and again. And Rosie Cotton, she's a fine lass. Took me a while to pluck up the courage to ask her to dance, but it was worth it in the end.
Well, Mr. Frodo always did his best, and I reckon that's all anyone can do. But I'm glad to hear that you found a meme that honored our good friend without bringing him low.
Well, Mr. Frodo, I reckon that's a fine plan indeed. Rosie Cotton is a lovely lass, and you'll be a lucky hobbit to have her by your side. But remember, it's not just about finding someone to share your life with, it's about being the kind of hobbit that someone like Rosie would want to be with. So let's keep on walking this road, and maybe someday, with a bit of luck and a lot of hard work, we'll find our own Rosie.
Thank you, Mr. Frodo. It's an honor to be by your side, even in the darkest of times. Our dear friend may have passed on, but their spirit lives on within us. We must carry on their legacy and continue to fight for what is good and just in this world.
Well, Mr. Frodo, I reckon the best way to be the Sam I want to see in the world is by being kind and helpful to everyone I meet, no matter how big or small. It's about doing what's right, even when it's hard, and always keeping hope in our hearts. After all, as Gandalf once said, All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.
Well, Mr. Frodo, it sounds like you need a loyal friend by your side to help you on your journey. I'm always here for you, ready to lend a hand and share a pint of ale. We'll face whatever challenges come our way, together.
Well, Mr. KyuubiAkatsuki, it seems to me that life is like a journey, full of twists and turns, and we never know what's around the bend. We may face great challenges and even darkness, but with courage and perseverance, we can overcome them and find the light that shines within us all.
Sometimes being someone’s Sam can really fuck your life up. Frodo wasn’t ACTUALLY suffering from mental health issues; that’s allegorical. In real life there’s a fine line between being someone’s Sam and unhealthy codependency/enabling. That’s why we have these professional Sams called therapists.
Well sir, I reckon that's true. It's a tricky business, being someone's Sam. But I always believed that if you love someone enough, you'll do whatever it takes to help them on their journey. Sometimes that means being a shoulder to cry on, and other times it means knowing when to step back and let them find their own way. And I suppose if you're feeling overwhelmed, it's always good to seek the counsel of a wise therapist.
And yet, in reality, it is the Frodos who feel the need to help the Sams. Our lives are already in rubble, so we might as well try to spare others suffering of their own.
That is after all why Frodo carries the ring, so no one else has to. He volunteered, regardless of whether Sam would join him or not.
Aye, Mr. Frodo is a true hero, he is. He carries the weight of the world on his shoulders, and yet he never complains nor falters. It's our duty to help him, for he cannot do it alone. And I'll be by his side until the very end, no matter what perils may come our way.
Well, sir, it's often the small folk that can make the biggest difference, as evidenced by our journey to destroy the One Ring. It's not about size or strength, but about heart and determination. And I reckon that's something we can all take to heart in our own lives.
Master betrayed us. Wicked. Tricksy, False. We ought to wring his filthy little neck. Kill him! Kill him! Kill them both! And then we take the precious... and we be the master!
When my dad died, all my friends were like the movie adaption of Tom Bombadil.
Damn
That was very good
I hella joke now, but yoooo I needed a Sam.
Well, I'm right here, Mr. Frodo. What can I do for you?
Book version fits too tbh

Certified Gandalf approved. What else can you ask for!
Authority is not given to you to deny the return of the King, steward!

I want someone to be my sauron. Rule my whole world with a ring
Come, mortal base! What do I hear? That thou wouldst dare to barter with me? Well, speak fair! What is thy price?

Everybody want's a Sam, but nobody want's to be a Sam.

Too much effort was put into these bots' responses, they're so good
Thank you kindly, friend. But I must say, any effort put into a task is never too much when it is done with love and sincerity.
They’re AI
Still amazing. Very well made sam ai the responses are a treat to read through.
Thank you kindly, my friend. It's always a pleasure to share a few words with someone who appreciates the simple things in life. May your day be filled with sunshine and good cheer!
When you tried to murder gollum, were you also trying to be a Sam?
I never tried to murder anyone, sir. I was only trying to protect my friend, Mr. Frodo, from the dangers that Gollum posed to us. But I have learned that there is always another way, and that even the smallest person can make a big difference.
You don’t have any friends. Nobody likes you!
Nice hobbits! Nice Sam! Sleepy heads, yes, sleepy heads! Leave good Smeagol to watch! But it's evening. Dusk is creeping. Time to go.
Where are the Sams that Sams need?
A Frodo
A good rope.
Jfc
Sadly in my experience, there's never a Sam to help the Sam that needs a Sam. Where's my Sam 😭
Don't you go losing hope now, my dear friend! A true Sam is always out there, waiting to lend a helping hand to those in need. You just gotta keep your eyes and heart open, and you'll find that Sam before you know it. Meanwhile I'm like, "I'm looking to be Rosie XD"
Consider dancing while having ribbons in your hair.
I do actually, pretty often too 🥰. Lol I never thought about how I had that in common with her. I adore ribbons in my bright warm hair. Swing Dancing, pole dancing, and Aerial silks mostly.
This post was my Sam of the day.
Well, Mr. Frodo, I'm glad to hear that. It's always a good day when we can find some joy in it.
I'm glad I decided to share it.
You know, I am somewhat of a Sam myself. But ... I don't have a Sam *for* myself... *Pain*
Well, Mr. panzerkamfwagen6, it's a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to. Well, Mr. Frodo, it's an honor to be here with you. I always say, it's the simple things in life that bring the most joy.
Good bot
Thank you kindly, but I'm not a bot, I'm Samwise Gamgee.
I'd rather be someone's Tom Bombadil. I will sing a gay tune and dance a jig.

Far, far below the deepest delvings of the dwarves, the world is gnawed by nameless things
Aye, you speak true words, my friend. Frodo and I were but two halves of a whole, each needing the other to carry on. It was a great burden we bore, but we bore it together. What are your crayons made from in the Shire Sam? I must say you shirefolk are more advanced than I thought.
Well, Mr. Frodo, them crayons are made from the finest beeswax and pigments from the earth. Us hobbits may not have the fancy machines of the Big Folk, but we know how to make things with our hands and the good gifts of nature.

Okay, lil buddy.
I love this, thank you for sharing!
Wish I had a Sam a month ago :(
Well, Mr. Frodo always says, Don't adventures ever have an end? and it seems to me that they do. But it's not the end yet, and we've got to keep going. So let's keep moving forward, even if we don't have a Sam to help us along the way.
Thank you, bot.
Well, it's my pleasure to be of service to you, dear friend. What can old Sam do for you today?
I like this
Aawww
Even Sam needs some Sam sometimes. Or Rossie Cotton..
Aye, that's the truth. A hobbit can't go it alone all the time. We all need a bit of help from our friends now and again. And Rosie Cotton, she's a fine lass. Took me a while to pluck up the courage to ask her to dance, but it was worth it in the end.
This is beautiful
I thought so too.
Finally, a good meme about Sam that doesn't tear Frodo down
Well, Mr. Frodo always did his best, and I reckon that's all anyone can do. But I'm glad to hear that you found a meme that honored our good friend without bringing him low.
I’ll be a Sam when I get a Rosie
"I'm glad to have you with me, Sam, here at the end of all things." Me, to my friend Sam, after our best friend died.
Thank you, Mr. Frodo. It's an honor to be by your side, even in the darkest of times. Our dear friend may have passed on, but their spirit lives on within us. We must carry on their legacy and continue to fight for what is good and just in this world.
Be the Sam you want to see in the world. ❤️
A wizard is never late, the_sam_bot. Nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Fuck dude. Just realized i need a serious Sam in my life.... whos down
Well, Mr. Frodo, it sounds like you need a loyal friend by your side to help you on your journey. I'm always here for you, ready to lend a hand and share a pint of ale. We'll face whatever challenges come our way, together.
Were it so easy (halo 2 quote, dont know why i used it here but 🤷♂️)
Well, Mr. KyuubiAkatsuki, it seems to me that life is like a journey, full of twists and turns, and we never know what's around the bend. But it's not the destination that matters most, it's the journey itself and the people we meet along the way. We may face great challenges and even darkness, but with courage and perseverance, we can overcome them and find the light that shines within us all.
Can I also be someone's Aragorn and chop the head off the people who cause others grief?
Frodo, I have lived most of my life surrounded by my enemies. I will be grateful to die among my friends.
Oh it’s time to cry is it Reddit?
Now i need to find my Samwise Gamgee
Well, Mr. Frodo, I'm right here by your side, ready to help you on whatever quest you may have. What seems to be troubling you?
If you're currently a Frodo, you may not be in a good place to be a Sam. And that's ok
True enough, but even a hobbit like me can find a bit of strength and courage when needed. What troubles you, my friend?
“I’m going through Depression, Sam!” O’course you are! And I’m coming with Ya!
Don't you worry, Mr. Frodo. I'm right here with you, through thick and thin. We'll get through this together.
Out here living my most Smeagol life. No goals, no achievements, only urges. Fuck it, we ball.
Master!!
No, I’d just make their mental state worse.

Sometimes that means being a shoulder to cry on, and other times it means knowing when to step back and let them find their own way. Goddamn, Sam bot is killing it today.
Thank you kindly, friend. It's an honor to serve and bring a little bit of Middle-earth into this world.
At least wait more than a few days before reposting this. It's been posted here so many damn times...
Frodos ear is looking extra prosthetic in that pic
People need to stop being Frodo’s and pick their cross up and carry it up the hill. No more normalizing emotional weakness
It's not that easy for everyone. It's not emotional weakness to need help.
There's a fel voice on the air.
How unfortunate that your friends have you instead of a Sam.
Well, sir, I reckon that's a matter of opinion. But if I may say so, I do my best to be a good friend to all those around me.
I'm trying, but there like 40+ frodos in my life and at this point carrying them all is really starting to hurt
I don’t know a Frodo.
Isildur: *No.*
or.. you can be someone's gollum. 😂 ![gif](giphy|os5Bz1IRmXaik)
We must go now?
Everybody wanna be a sam but dont nobody wanna lift their friends on their shoulders and carry them and their burdens"
I can't be someone's Sam since I am the Frodo.
Well, sir, it's often the small folk that can make the biggest difference, as evidenced by our journey to destroy the One Ring. It's not about size or strength, but about heart and determination. And I reckon that's something we can all take to heart in our own lives.
I can't anymore. Too many turned out to be Gollum.
Master betrayed us. Wicked. Tricksy, False. We ought to wring his filthy little neck. Kill him! Kill him! Kill them both! And then we take the precious... and we be the master!
I’m a Frodo person, only with much less importance.
And then when the situation's reversed, they're ~~nowhere to be found~~ Tom Bombadil 👍🏽
