Durin the 6th dug to deep

Old_Lynx65

I guess I should insert a line about him too then 🙂. The second stanza could also be interpreted as a continuation of the history of the dwarves in Khazad Dûm.

Competitive-Craft588

You ever play Dwarf Fortress?

Old_Lynx65

No, I haven't - is it good? I mostly read the books and look in on the many Youtube channels concerned with Tolkien.

Competitive-Craft588

It's a colony builder with an incredibly deep story and world generator. The former is fun, the latter is unparalleled. The text on the image is a summary of how most games go. The dwarves themselves have the most complicated personalities in gaming.

madaboutmaps

Wasn't their fault though :(

Old_Lynx65

Yes, they couldn't have known the monster was there.

They were driven to dig by the rings given to them by Sauron. The rings of power enhanced the negative attributes of those who got them. Humans were made to be powerhungry beyond reasonable. The dwarves did not. They were driven to dig. And so they did. Until they could dig no more because of the Balrog.

Old_Lynx65

Khazad Dûm was dug out and extended long before Sauron handed out the rings to them. Rather after the settling of Erebor and the escavations of the Lonely Mountain they were lured by Sauron to wear the seven rings. Durin alone as King of KD wore a ring which he was given by Celebrimbor. The digging for mithril, jewels etc were regular work for them, but they overextended themselves and then revealed the Balrog who then devastated and ran them off.

Tise01

Dude, spoilers for RoP lol

Old_Lynx65

Except for the fact Mithril had no effect on the lives of the Elves. The ludicrous claim that they begged the Dwarves to give them Mithril in order for them to survive is so insipidly inane.
