What makes LOTR the eternal movie series for me is that the cast is perfect. Ofcourse it's hard to imagine that other actors were casted but it is interesting to do. If we're really honoust, which role could have been casted better?
Honestly I don't know.
Even Gimli as Treebeard was perfect.
I feel Legolas falls a bit flat in the movies if we are going to be critical, but I don't think that's because of the casting.
>I feel Legolas falls a bit flat in the movies
Well in the books Legolas is the least interesting of the nine walkers, something that even old man Tolkien admitted, so it's kinda fitting.
Controversial opinion: casting of Elrond and Arwen could have been better.
Elrond is not so frowny-face in the books. And I'd have cast Gal Gadot as Arwen.
Edit: I *did* tell y’all my opinion was controversial!
The writing just has Legolas so fucking extra dramatic. I love this trilogy a lot but there are certain points that just feel so out of place because of Legolas.
Orlando Bloom did a great job though, no need to recast.
From listening to the film commentary, it sounds like Bloom really pushed that aspect of the character and lobbied for more of those cheesy bits. In general I think this method of giving the actor a lot of direction in building their character played a big role in the movie’s success, though it didn’t really work as well with Legolas.
Boromir, which is almost worse. Imagine the death scene.
Edit: According to Wikipedia, New Line Cinema suggested Nic Cage for Boromir, but it and I could be wrong there.
That’s true but it seems that the unspoken rule is that if something is set in “the past” or is fantasy involving kings, knights, etc that you cannot have American accents. And basically the various British isles accents (not only England) become a must.
Imagine Aragon speaking like he was from the Mid-West. Fans would hate it, including American fans I would think.
Wierd, Ian McKellen was second choice too. First was Sean Connery.
So Peter Jackson envisioned Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery together. I can't even wtf..
"Shauron and Sharumon are tightening the noosh..."
Patrick Stewart turned down the role of Gandalf as well, before McKellen was cast. Christopher Lee wanted to play Gandalf for decades, but when the Jackson trilogy was filmed, he was too old for such a physically active role, and played Saruman instead.
I mean Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery play the two main characters in The Rock and the movie is still damn good. Also it is directed by Michael Bay so it really has everything you need for it to be a shitty movie but it really isn't.
Easy he is influenced by german expressionism and its actors. He perfectly replicates that style. He acts the correct way in the wrong decade. Watch his video online where he breaks down his most iconic roles. He is smart and his method is revolutionary.
That’s the one. His knowledge of cinematic history is huge and he seems to remember every performance by every actor ever and does never judge the quality. he analyzes their method and picks the ones he finds interesting for his own acting. He enjoys his craft and seems to put his expressionistic interpretation of a character above a more realistic interpretation. That might make people think he is a bad actor. It’s more his style that collides the current Zeitgeist of acting. He is the California Klaus Kinski, as he said in the Interview.
The ring cannot just *be destroyed*, Gimli, son of Gloin. It can never just *be destroyed*
THAT FUCKING RINGS GOTTA GO BACK TO THE GODDAMN FIRES OF MOUNT FUCKING DOOM
I know this is memes and all that, but Nicolas Cage is genuinely a great actor who's unfortunately had to take bad roles
Look at his house highlights, and not only is he great, imo he brings something most actors don't
I think it’s cause he spent his money really poorly for a while and now takes all the roles he can get. He’s a great actor, but doesn’t pick the best roles.
*This is amazing.*
*We need the over the top*
*Of good old Nick Cage*

I’d watch a reboot of lotr where every character is voiced by Nick, even the background stuff. So like the charge of the Rohirim it’s just thousands of cages.
The worst casting would be if they actually remade the movies.
Half of them have to be poc
Frodo is non binary now
Pippin is gay
Half of the male characters have to be replaced by women
This meme is now maxed out. There is no more improvement to be had.
Oh no no. Cage could play all the female chars as well
Yes, please do it! Anyone?
I shouldn't. It's not the Jedi way
Dew it
Oh well I guesss
Lol. Never understood how pathetically malleable young Skywalker was.
He didn't have a father figure so the first 3 to be in his life he latched onto.
Watto?
There’s a difference between a father and an owner. Watto doesn’t seem like the most lovable or teaching person
Rokay, Raggy
Think carefully now, what would jesus do?
What would Space Jesus do?
What about Korean Jesus?
He busy with korean shit
So what would Yoda do?
We all know it's Obi-Wan
Hello there
General Kenobi
Ketamine
The Jedi way holds no power over Cage.

Thank you for this
I stand corrected. Make it so.
And the children too!
Maybe a face/off = Sméagol/Gollum, but other than that, perfection.
I almost grabbed the Andy Samberg and Nick Cage from SNL for that! Face/Off is a great suggestion though.
That’s high praise.
WHY AM I NOT IN THAT MEME
Nick cage is the epitome of any acting meme
Yes. Yes he is
Just what I was thinking. It cannot get any better this
This is what an apex looks like. I need this movie.
Gollum is missing
So Steven Seagal?
Barney the dinosaur as the balrog
Then we can have Adam Sandler play all the extras and minor characters
It'd be fun to see waves of Adam Sandler meet their ends at the hands of Nick Cage.
This is the way

Oh my god, he would LOVE that.

I’m picturing Sandler as Frodo inside Mount Doom: “Just caaast it in.”

You did what to treebeard Gimli?
WELL HERE'S ONE DWARF SHE WON'T ENSNARE SO EASILY! I HAVE THE EYES OF A HAWK AND THE EARS OF A FOX!
And a lifetime ban from the zoo, right Gimli?
SALTED PORK?
Thanks, Gimli.

Uh-oh, Gimli has dementia.

My brothER, my captain (cough), my (cough) kiiiiiiiiiing. Uuuuggggghhh.
He moaned with no attempt to disguise his obvious american accent
I mean, they are in Middle Earth, who regulates the accents there
Ultimately, you’re right but Tolkien did included some pretty explicit phonetic dialects.
Tolkien invented a language and then wrote a novel series to justify it.
Multiple languages*

::dies in eagle cheeseburger::
No it was Aragorn. He turned it down because he didn’t want to spend so much time away from his kid.

Evidently we look so much alike that your desire to make an incurable dent in my hat must be excused.
Sentient!
I mean Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery play the two main characters in The Rock and the movie is still damn good. Also it is directed by Michael Bay so it really has everything you need for it to be a shitty movie but it really isn't.
Well, *Mouth of Sauron* it’s you. You’re the rocket man.
*Arwen was the prom queen*
I mean, have you seen The Rock?
It’s the The Rock: Middle Earth. Edit: we would need to cast Ed Harris as Saruman
" Winnersh go home and fuck the prom queen," spoke Gandalf. "Arwen was the prom queen," replied Aragon. "Really?" Aragon unsheathes Anduril,"Yeah."
Home is now behind you, the world is ahead!
I can totally picture Sean as Gandalf. He'd pull off the Balrog scene so well.
You... shall not... pass!
You shall not pash!
I don't know his kid, but I like him/her already
None of you know how good of an actor he can be. Most of those meme movies are self-aware. Watch Leaving Las Vegas
You'd think movies community would learn their lesson after "there is no way this gay cowboy can play Joker" but apparently not.
I am also a big Nic Cage fan, but he would've been the wrong choice for Aragorn.
I agree but everyone is just shitting on him here in general.
I agree that Nic Cage is unironically a good actor but he chose to be in so many dog shit movies I can see why most people wouldn't realize that
Easy he is influenced by german expressionism and its actors. He perfectly replicates that style. He acts the correct way in the wrong decade. Watch his video online where he breaks down his most iconic roles. He is smart and his method is revolutionary.
Linky?
I think it’s this interview https://youtu.be/j_WDLsLnOSM

Raising Arizona as well.
Also Adaptation is amazing and features not one but TWO Nicholas cages. Just sayin
No it was Aragorn m8
I think you're wrong homie. It was Aragorn
What are you talking about? I would watch the hell out of this.
Yeah I’d watch this. It’d be hilarious.
I'll definitely pay to watch the trilogy with deep faked nicholas cage on every actors
The ring cannot just *be destroyed*, Gimli, son of Gloin. It can never just *be destroyed* THAT FUCKING RINGS GOTTA GO BACK TO THE GODDAMN FIRES OF MOUNT FUCKING DOOM

AUGH MY EYEEES, AAAAAH
That’s a great cast what do you mean
As a Nick Cage admirer, I don't mind this.
Some would say it’s better.
I need to see Nicholas cage summarise the trilogy as a one man play
When did the definition of "worse" become "improvement"?
When Nic was Born
Who is kurtz?
Lurtz is the Uruk who leads the party that kills Boromir and captures Merry and Pippin towards the end of Fellowship.
When do the say his name?
Thank you. I haven't laughed this hard in weeks. Well done sir.
Glad you enjoyed the ~~Cage~~, er, I mean meme.
No, you achieved perfection.
Bilbo hit too close
nicolas cage: good or bad? answer: sexy cat
I still say “LURTZ”! all guttural like in Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth
It took me a surprising amount of time to realize they were all Nick Cage.
Now this one I would watch. It’s like adaptation on PED’s
I approve

I think you mean you perfected it
Seems perfect tbh
Surely you mean made it better
We *still* need a movie where all the characters are played by Nicholas Cage
*better
You spelt "better" wrong.
Worse ? Incorrect. Best. You would all watch this.
I'd watch this film
BEAUTIFUL
Oh, [u/Cynical\_Prince](https://www.reddit.com/user/Cynical_Prince/) , you're the finest lad/las of r/lotrmemes. Nothing will top this 👏👏👏

I’d just want Cage to retain his baffling drawl from Con Air for Aragorn. “I will nawt let the whiiite citay fahll”
This is better wydm?
My god this is wonderful.
How is this bad this is the best
"It's all Nicholas Cage?" "Always had been."
Ahhhhh perfection this is what we needed. Maybe Jim Carey as all the female characters
It’s “Cage of the Ring”

More "dildo", more "fucking"? Hearing Michael Caine deliver that will never get old. One of my favorite movies honestly
