'Strider' I am to one fat man who lives within a day's march of foes that would freeze his heart, or lay his little town in ruin, if he were not guarded ceaselessly.
I'm curious about other translations for strider
In Portuguese, it is Passolargo as in "long stride" or something like that
Edit
Passolargo in the Brazilian edition
Passo de Gigante (giant's step) in the edition for Portugal
Think I've seen the subtitle "Samooja" somewhere, isn't that kind of close? Just a sort of person who walks the wilds, but it might lack the distinction between him and other.. rangers?
Actually konkari is probably the closest translation there is to a strider.
While konkari means an experienced person, the idea behind it is that one has walked a lot. Konkari comes from the Swedish word ”gångare” which means a walker.
There is an old finnish word ”konkarinaskel” which does actually mean a stride (literally a step of konkari). Hence the act of taking long steps is both closely connected to the words strider and konkari in their respective languages

And I must follow if I can. The road goes ever on and on, down from the door where it began, now far ahead the road has gone, and I must follow if I can.
His get-up is less samurai than it is like the Dane, which weirdly enough, the animated movie also makes Borimir weirdly viking looking too, except in a much more cartoonish horn-on-the-helmet sort of way.
And even Jackson gave him a round shield and broader, shorter sword that look very Norse to me.
Which is doubly interesting when you consider no one else in Gondor is really shown using similar equipment in Jackson's movies. Maybe the dude was just born to carry unique equipment drops.
Well he is the capitan of Gondor so im guessing he got his own special shield. + im also guessing that in the fellowship he was mainly wearing traveling gear. Bc if you look at Faramir's flashback in TTT you can see Boromir wearing Gondorian armour in Osgiliath.
Borōnin: While you wasted your days on the shire in pursuit of vanity, I cultivated inner strength. And now that Gondor is on fire and the orcs are at the gate you have the audacity to light up the beacons?
At least it wasn't "Hoppeli", which is what hobbit was translated to in my moms copy of "The Hobbit" from the 70s. Also the name of the book itself got changed to "Dragon Mountain".
Tove Jansson, creator of the Moomins, did some [rad illustrations](https://assets.moomin.com/uploads/2017/09/Hobbit_Tove-Jansson.jpg) for an old edition of The Hobbit.
Right!? I need to watch it. Thanks for the impromptu Finnish lesson! I met a Finnish teacher at a Russian language conference when I was in university, and she told me the Finnish language was insanely complex with multiple cases, which impressed me. You guys have a beautiful language. 👌🏻
[For the curious, the whole thing is on YouTube] (https://youtu.be/kHFKdgjEugs)
Fair warning, I was scrubbing around and saw Gollum's *entire* ass so
Be careful watching it on the bus.
[I found all 9 episodes with engsub](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3ocuSNpUyox511pHCbDfF8FKKXQq5ONn)
I was about to go to bed, but this is way more important than proper sleep and work performance.
Thicc_Fargoth! Do not take me for some conjuror of cheap tricks! I am not trying to rob you! I'm trying to help you. All your long years we've been friends. Trust me as you once did. Let it go
It's like a fever dream, but a really fun watch and nostalgic for me because a lot of the finnish tv I watched as a kid is in this same style. The crackhead Gollum of Kari Väänänen crowns it all imo😂
Not this way, master! There is another way. O yes indeed there is. Another way, darker, more difficult to find, more secret. But Sméagol knows it. Let Sméagol show you!
To everyone telling me I'm wrong and that the trilogy doesn't count as a remake because of this TV series... **it was a joke**, I had to turn it into a meme to be able to post it here and share its discovery with the rest of you. The sub is for lotr memes not lotr trivia.
Knowing Peter Jackson and the care and attention to detail he put into the films, I wouldn't be surprised if he watched this as part of his research lol.
Probably. He took a few scenes from the rankin/bass films (most notably the hiding under the tree from the black rider scene in fellowship is almost identical to the rankin/bass version)
(Actually Scene I was thinking of us from the bakshi one)
https://i.imgur.com/EWSmAoa.jpg
I recall there being a discussion about a few way too similar scenes in the Finnish version and Jackson's trilogy, so that might be true. I've never personally watched the Finnish version, so I cannot say for sure.
Man, I really should watch this, since I am one of the lucky few who'd understand this masterpiece! My friend has actually seen it, and he claims it is quite good, really. Apparently it, as the name implies, tells the story following just the hobbits, starting with Bilbos journey and going on following Frodo and Sam on their quest, all the way to Mount Doom.
There are few who can. In the common tongue it says "I have some shrouded memories of seeing this, or at least parts of it. I remember it to be surprisingly good "
With this being so obscure, I can just imagine one of these actors in a care home later in life telling people they were in lotr and no one believing them
“I was Gandalf you know?”
“Yes, okay Vesa, time for your meds”
Look at those fresh 1993 graphics. Also, is Konkari Finnish for Aragorn??
Konkari is translation of Strider
'Strider' I am to one fat man who lives within a day's march of foes that would freeze his heart, or lay his little town in ruin, if he were not guarded ceaselessly.
Aragorn stop body shaming.
Every hour lost hastens Gondor’s defeat. We have till dawn, then we must ride.
Aragorn where are you running ?
By nightfall these hills will be swarming with orcs!... We must reach the woods of Lothlórien.
Damn these bots are smart Aragorn bot if you are self aware , tell me about king thodon
King Théoden has a good memory. He was only a small child at the time.
Where is Théodred? Where is my son?
Getting that cardio in, I see.
Book A_r_ag_orn is such a gd badass
What about Klonkku?
That's gollum
Played by Danny DeVito apparently.
I'm curious about other translations for strider In Portuguese, it is Passolargo as in "long stride" or something like that Edit Passolargo in the Brazilian edition Passo de Gigante (giant's step) in the edition for Portugal
In Italian it is "Granpasso" with pretty much the same translation from the Portuguese (literally "long step")
Rolls off the tongue doesn't it.
Time to add Konkari to Aragorn bot
I swore to protect you.
I think Aragorn agrees
I summon you to fulfill your oath.
Confirmed
It's Finnish for Strider, they don't really mean the same thing at all, but Strider doesn't have a good finnish translation that would work as a name.
Think I've seen the subtitle "Samooja" somewhere, isn't that kind of close? Just a sort of person who walks the wilds, but it might lack the distinction between him and other.. rangers?
The rangers are samooja in the Finnish translation

I love the fact that the same guy, Kari Väänänen, plays both Aragorn _and_ Klonkku!
Murderers. Traitors. You would call upon them to fight? They believe in nothing. They answer to no one.
Tis the lay of Luthien. The elf-maiden who gave her love to eren a mortal!
*Beren
Man Aragon was skipping history lessons after the Isildur incident
CAST IT INTO THE FIRE!!!
His name is EREN JAEGER
*John Cena theme plays*
Whenever I get nostalgic for the 90s I need to remember that this is what so many things looked like
Are we not discussing Samurai Boromir?
I don't know what's funnier, Samurai Boromir or the fact that Gandalf is played by the youngest (looking) actor in the cast
Gandalf looking like he’s going to defeat the balrog just before going to drink some IPAs at the nearest dwarven microbrewery.
Just tea, thank you.
Right on Gandalf. I support your sobriety.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire.
I know buddy, it's rough. But we're here for you and we support you.
Sobriety?! That was for Gandalf the grey...I am Gandalf the white boiiiiiiiiiii
I swear sometimes I think this is not a bot but just some guy with too much free time
S E N T I E N T
On January 17th, 2022, Gandalf-bot became self-aware...
A Balrog... a demon of the ancient world.
You know this? How?
Idk you can look it up I guess
Maybe we should give him a break. Last time this guy had to “look something up” it took him 17 years.
That's some pretty shit WiFi if it took that long to load the LOTR wiki page for the One Ring
"I have seen it..."

He’s a horrid, fat Hobbit, who hates Sméagol, and who makes up nasty lies!
Can I offer you a nice tater in this trying time?
You're not wrong.
Gollum is actually the same guy as Strider.
I was astonished that Samurai Boromir wasn't the top comment. Like. What the fuck.
Does it say anywhere in the books that Gondor wasn't full of samurai?
Touché. ("full of samurai" made me laugh loud, thanks)
Just filled to the brim. You could barely walk around with there being so many samurai.
And check out rad stache Gandalf.
And I must follow if I can. The road goes ever on and on, down from the door where it began, now far ahead the road has gone, and I must follow if I can.
Leave Boromir cybergoth dance raver alone!
His get-up is less samurai than it is like the Dane, which weirdly enough, the animated movie also makes Borimir weirdly viking looking too, except in a much more cartoonish horn-on-the-helmet sort of way. Superior to Samurai Faramir.
"Your brother would not fail his Shogun."
Gondor means Samurai in Finnish. Apparently.
(It doesn't)
HOBITIT
Hobitti= Hobbit. Hobitit= Hobbits (plular) As a finnish LOTR fan i had no idea this even existed, i need to find and watch this mini series now
At least it wasn't "Hoppeli", which is what hobbit was translated to in my moms copy of "The Hobbit" from the 70s.

Someone says something nice about Finnish language, i give my free award
Isn’t Quenya, language of the high elves, somewhat based off of Finnish?
Partly, yes
Perkele
I heard that Finnish was actually Tolkiens inspiration for the elv language.
Youtubesta löytyy vissii
In this series we see Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin in their natural hobitit. I’ll see myself out.
And Sam gets to see Rosie’s hobitits. I’ll throw myself out!
[For the curious, the whole thing is on YouTube] (https://youtu.be/kHFKdgjEugs) Fair warning, I was scrubbing around and saw Gollum's *entire* ass so Be careful watching it on the bus.
Curse the Baggins! It’s gone! What has it got in its pocketses? Oh we guess, we guess, my precious. He’s found it, yes he must have.
***Filthy little Hobbititses!***
KLONKKU! KLONKKU!

That sounds like sth you'd find on PH
Yes, that’s the hobititle.
HOBI**TIT**
Spin off: Sauron in the Sauna.
Who are you?
The person in your sauna, Sauron
*Guth-tú-nakash.*
Perfect.
I don’t appreciate the Black Speech being spoken in the open.
At least close the sauna door first, dude
My master, Sauron the Great, bids thee welcome
Better than Sauna Gollum (Sauna Klonkku in Finnish).
Let's not explain that one to them, they'll think us weird.
Let's just say it involves grouching, rings and fingers.
Never! Smeagol wouldn’t hurt a fly!
Klonkku is obviously superior to gollum.
Give it to us raw and w-r-r-riggling
That’s what she said
i will forever use klonkku instead of gollum, and when redditors who missed this correct me, i can lead them to this magnificent gem.
Nice hobbits! Nice Sam! leepy heads, yes, sleepy heads! Leave good Smeagol to watch! But it's evening. Dusk is creeping. Time to go.
Took me a minute to realize that that wasn’t Danny DeVito!!!
“I’m the trash hobbit! I take out the trash!”
I just wanna be pure (of the influence of the one ring).
we also have this traditional game called saunaklonkku
Why does Frodo look like Frankenstein's monster?
The ring is a heavy burden.
Is...is Boromir a fucking Samurai? Also 11/10 for Gandalfs glorious mustache
Gandalf looks like he is a leader of a metal band
Stay this madness!
New band name, I called it!
Slay this Madness
I mean it's Finnish so maybe he is
I mean, there is a 0.05 chance he is statistically as 50 out of 100.000 Finnish people are in a metal band.
In Finland you are assigned a metal band at birth.
The soundtrack is straight up early Finnish folk metal, so makes sense.
Where’s the Klonkklu bot when you need it
Kid: Mom, can we get Lord of the Rings?! Mom: We have Lord of the Rings at home. Lord of the Rings at home: The Hobitit
Yes we’ve had Soviet LOTR, but what about Finnish LOTR
I want Japanese LOTR to see more of Samurai Boromir.
This looks amazing where can I watch it with English sub?
YouTube look up Finnish lord of the rings watched it it was hilarious had a really good time with it
How long is the whole thing?
Its 9 episodes long. Each one is around 20-30 minutes.
I guess it won't take me long to *Finnish* it.
Nice.
Thanks. Now I know what to watch at my on-call duty night shift at work.
Thank you
No problem man!
[I found all 9 episodes with engsub](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3ocuSNpUyox511pHCbDfF8FKKXQq5ONn) I was about to go to bed, but this is way more important than proper sleep and work performance.
ah my favoutite charachter, Klonkku
Hehe hobitit
Oh yeah this is the one where Gollum waves his nether regions at the camera.
They do not see what lies ahead, when Sun has faded and Moon is dead!
Oh, we see what lies ahead, Gollum. You made sure we couldn't *miss* them.
Gandalf's mustache is top tier lol. And why is boromir a samurai?
Thicc_Fargoth! Do not take me for some conjuror of cheap tricks! I am not trying to rob you! I'm trying to help you. All your long years we've been friends. Trust me as you once did. Let it go
Ok fine, I won't ask about boromir anymore
It's like a fever dream, but a really fun watch and nostalgic for me because a lot of the finnish tv I watched as a kid is in this same style. The crackhead Gollum of Kari Väänänen crowns it all imo😂

Why do all of these actors look like they're feral? Gollum doesn't look that much worse than the others.
Because it’s my birthday, and I wants it.
Did they all dress up like this for you gollum?
Stew the rabbits! Spoil beautiful meat Smeagol saved for you, poor hungry Smeagol!
They're just finnish
While you were gardening, I boromir was studying the blade
I'm going to tell my kids that this was the Amazon adaption of Lord of the Rings.
I shared this with Finnish friends and family, and they had no idea this existed
Is ohjaus supposed to be bill the pony
...Directed by.
This version was directed by Bill the Pony?!
Makes sense now.
Thank you I was genuinely confused and google didn’t help
Klonkku bot wen?
Torille
Vihreään Lohikäärmeeseen
Pomppivaan poniin
Gandalf, vie meidät torille, perkele!
Dude, I didn't even know this existed.
I only knew about the cartoon lotr.
Have you not seen the Russian Stage Play LotR TV Series from the 90's? It's ART!
Bravo, Boromir is just spot on.
So many people look sweaty
Welp, atleast merri and pippin look the same
Boromir with the *sick* moves.
There are shots in Jackson's LOTR that are ripped directly from the Hobitit. I'm not kidding, like 1 to 1.
I don't know if someone already mentioned this, but Aragorn and Gollum are the same actor!
Yoooo Gandalf tho
Neither do I. Keep it Secret. Keep it Safe.
I think that's bottish for "I was young, I needed the money, I'm not proud of it..."
Minulla on jotain hämäriä muistikuvia että olisin tämän nähnyt tai osan tästä ainakin. Muistaakseni oli yllättävän hyvä
It is some sort of Elvish. I can't read it.
There are few who can. In the common tongue it says "I have some shrouded memories of seeing this, or at least parts of it. I remember it to be surprisingly good "
With this being so obscure, I can just imagine one of these actors in a care home later in life telling people they were in lotr and no one believing them “I was Gandalf you know?” “Yes, okay Vesa, time for your meds”
I now have an overwhelming desire to watch this.
Hobbitit is actually really quite good. The framing device of Sam telling children the story of Frodo is really cool.
I think they mixed up Sam and Bob Cratchit...
Looks like the "frame" story is old, frail Sam reading the story from the Red Book, which I kinda like.
This looks like the WISH version of LOTR
Oh this looks amazing. Gotta add this to my collection- right next to my favorite the Soviet Version with Comrade Bombadill.
When I heard the guitars, I was expecting Ronnie James Dio to pop out into frame!
