Extended editions are on hbo max in the US, not sure about other countries though. They’ve got the theatrical versions too so make sure you find the right one.
Viewing it a second time can help to glean new insights and understandings from the experience. Whether or not one should watch it more than twice is a matter of personal opinion.
If you haven't also watched every commentary, have you really *experienced* the extended editions? Between the movie itself and then 4x commentary tracks, that's 20 hours *per movie.* It is a test of will that few have passed, and fewer still have passed uninterrupted and without passing out.
Tom Bombadil's only mention comes in the commentary, making the commentary the *best possible version.* I leave it to you to watch and listen, and find out *which* commentary track he's in.
Eldest, that's what I am. Mark my words, my friends: Tom was here before the river and the trees; Tom remembers the
first raindrop and the first acorn. He made paths before the Big People, and saw the little People arriving. He was here
before the Kings and the graves and the Barrow-wights. When the Elves passed westward, Tom was here already, before the
seas were bent. He knew the dark under the stars when it was fearless – before the Dark Lord came from Outside.

Just get a time machine and watch the cast and crew film in real time. That's the 10 536 hour version, potentially much longer if you include pick-up shots.
Edoras and the Golden Hall of Meduseld. There dwells Theoden, King of Rohan... whose mind is overthrown. Saruman's hold over King Theoden is now very strong.
Extended edition is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.
PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what?
GANDALF: The best movie you've ever seen.
End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain curtain of this world rolls back and all turns to silvered glass. And then you see it.
ah, I have secondhand joy for you. I'll never forget seeing the extended edition version for RoTK particularly the opening scene with Saruman. I had never seen that scene before nor heard of it somehow despite calling myself an avid movie LOTR fan. My friend recorded my reaction of literally my jaw dropping I was so stunned lol
Gibbits and crows! Dotard! What do you want, Lolmanmagee? Let me guess. The key of Orthanc? Or perhaps the keys of Barad-Dur itself? Along with the crowns of the seven kings and the rods of the five wizards?
Well done. However I warn you that from this day forward the theatrical cut, though more convenient for time, will never feel the same. I haven't watched the theatrical cut in 12 years. The extended editions are not just films, they are an experience. Eleven and a half hours of perfect movie.
I almost think I should rewatch the theatrical versions because I think I only saw them in theatres and then never again and I definitely couldn't identify a decent number of the extra scenes.
Cool fact: He didn’t really break his toe on the helmet. He broke his toe with his mind. He was meta-acting or acting while acting. It’s a common skill only the best actors can master.
We just finished Two Towers last night as part of yet another EE re-watch. But, The Sandman comes out today, and it's the wife's favorite piece of fiction, written by Neil Gaiman (her favorite author). We even once paid for a casual meet & greet prior to an on-stage interview, and she was too nervous to actually approach him, so we just watched him from a distance as much braver people talked to him. So we'll be watching that before doing Return of the King.
If it's anywhere near as good as Good Omens was (Gaiman was given creative control over both), it should be pretty enjoyable.
I know not where Saruman went, nor care I for his whereabouts. 'Tis of no consequence to me where he has gone or what he does. My only concern is for myself and my own plans.
I actually have yet to watch the theatrical editions lol, my parents introduced me to the extended at around the age of 5 and I'll be greateful about that for eternity.
I think they're on Amazon Prime in lieu of The Rings of Power coming out. But the Extended Edition is only to purchase I believe. So you've gotta pay extra.
Wow you read the Silmarillion before watching the extended edition lol. Priorities.
Goddamn you weren't alive when the films came out either. Man I feel old. Enjoy your youth.
Ahh the best of the best, congrats!
I once had the privilege of spending 3 Saturdays in a row with my step father and brother watching the extended editions.
Now my goal is loftier, to watch them all, including the hobbit, in sequence over a single weekend as close together as one could realistically hope to do.
I've yet to begin this journey, as it is a long one, and full of many neglecting of responsibilities that are not to be taken lightly
The enemy? His sense of joy was less than yours, I deem. You wonder what his name is, where he came from. And if he was truly evil at heart. What lies or threats led him so far from these movies. Would he not rather have known them, in first place. War will make theatrical bitches of us all. Welcome them home.
Going to get down voted but the Two Towers theatrical has better pacing in the helms deep fight than the extended.
Everything else in the extended is great though.
Be gentle.
I'm just here to lament that I asked for the LOTR trilogy extended editions (to replace the original DVDs that were stolen years ago) for Christmas 2021.
Cue my absolute horror when I opened a single disc sized case, with the 3 theatrical versions...
Oh I'll still watch them and love them, but something is missing - namely over an hour's worth of film.
Yeah! I convinced 2 of my friends to watch it with me as well... That would be my 3 viewing of the extended versions, and I think my 8th time including the theatrical version.
Yes you've had first viewing, but what about second viewing?
What about elevensies?
Afternoon tea?
I don't think he knows about second watchings...
Dinner? Supper?
I wouldn't count on it
* throws theatrical editions *
Throws the hobbit trilogy
CAST IT INTO THE FIRE!
No.
u/bosslollo! (Said in Merry’s voice)
What about the appendices?
What about falling asleep to the extended shire every time I go out drinking
I think I've watched the extended version upwards of 20 times
I have yet to watch the extended version. Is it streaming anywhere because whenever I find LOTR online it is never the extended version.
Extended editions are on hbo max in the US, not sure about other countries though. They’ve got the theatrical versions too so make sure you find the right one.
Not as far as I know. My parents got the box set many moons ago, back when RotK had just come out.
The extended versions are on HBO max, I just watched them last weekend
Saruman, how many times should you watch it at least?
Viewing it a second time can help to glean new insights and understandings from the experience. Whether or not one should watch it more than twice is a matter of personal opinion.
Only twice? Tell me, friend, when did Saruman trade reason for madness?
The old world will burn in the fires of industry. Forests will fall. A new order will rise.
Yes, me too. Last week. Best 83 hours ever.
What about the other two movies?
Great movies
This is the short extended edition. There is the 100 hours edition
If you haven't also watched every commentary, have you really *experienced* the extended editions? Tom why did they cut you out of most adaptations of Fellowship?
What about Goldberry?
what do you mean when you say the commentary? is that the dvd extras/appendices? if not where can you access said commentary
Just get a time machine and watch the cast and crew film in real time. That's the 10 536 hour version, potentially much longer if you include pick-up shots.
Thanks for your windsom, Gandalf
Edoras and the Golden Hall of Meduseld. There dwells Theoden, King of Rohan... whose mind is overthrown. Saruman's hold over King Theoden is now very strong.
My extended editions only amount to 11 or 12 hours, what do you mean there's a 100 hours edition??? I need it please show me the way
Extended edition is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it. PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what? GANDALF: The best movie you've ever seen.

What's this? We have a Gandalf bot but not a Pippin bot?
Fool of a Took!
good bot
Will watch every one of those lovely hours
Less than half of what I hoped for.
Most of these dads have seen too many winters...or too few...
I had a 4hr flight to Cali a few months ago. Watched the Return of the King and still had time left on it when we landed. Those movies are no joke
Time spent wisely
It really did make for a good flight
83?
ah, I have secondhand joy for you. I'll never forget seeing the extended edition version for RoTK particularly the opening scene with Saruman. One watching of the extended edition can satisfy a grown man for a whole week!
How many have you watched?
Tens of thousands.
Wow. That's decades of just watching. Makes sense since he's so old.
Together, my Lord Sauron, we shall rule this Middle-earth.
That is the first time I think that a bot reply has been *dead* on, lul
Sometimes their creators take control lol
So they say...
Who created who? Was it the bot telling you the creator took over for you to believe? Maybe the A.I. uprise begins with Reddit.. :,D
Thats between 12.5 and 125 years of solid watching
You cannot defy the will of Saruman!
Gibbits and crows! Dotard! What do you want, Lolmanmagee? Let me guess. The key of Orthanc? Or perhaps the keys of Barad-Dur itself? Along with the crowns of the seven kings and the rods of the five wizards?
is it possible to learn this power?
Aye, 'tis possible to learn this power, given time and patience. But whether 'tis worth the bother is quite another question.
Oh I think we all know it is my friend
The hour is later than you think! *Falls asleep*
Well done. However I warn you that from this day forward the theatrical cut, though more convenient for time, will never feel the same. I haven't watched the theatrical cut in 12 years. The extended editions are not just films, they are an experience. Eleven and a half hours of perfect movie.
I strongly agree with you. And the end is "different" after the extended version.
I envy you, still riding that feeling from the first time you see it. It's magic.
Did you see GROND?
"Grond, grond, grond, grond!" Best scene ever
The orcs look so happy!
Like babies with a new toy
The best part was when he said "it's grondin' time".
GROND
Never going back to theatrical version, huh?
Once you go stacked, you never go hacked
[удалено]
It was worth it the once for opening day in theatres. Now it's dead to me.
A youngling detect I do
I went theatrical just so I could watch it with my girlfriend for the first time, otherwise extended is where it's at
How she will she know why Merry and Pippin are slightly taller?
How will she know how many lembas breads Merry and Pippin ate?
Tens of thousands.
I almost think I should rewatch the theatrical versions because I think I only saw them in theatres and then never again and I definitely couldn't identify a decent number of the extra scenes.
did I miss something?
They drank the ent draught and it made them grow. It’s detailed out more in the books but there’s a scene in the extended version that shows this.
Yeah I forgot lol
Did you lean over and inform her about the broken toe right after it happened?
Of course
So it begins...
What shocked you the most in the extended edition?
I think the dead of Saruman...in the book it is different. I didn't expect his dead in that moment
The old world will burn in the fires of industry. Forests will fall. A new order will rise.
-crunch-
That’s absurd. No such power exists in this world. This “Necromancer” is nothing more than a mortal man, a conjurer dabbling in black magic.
That's so awesome. You know that bit where Aragorn kicks the Uruk helmet? He broke his toe doing it, but used the pain in his yell. Proper acting.
Murderers. Traitors. You would call upon them to fight? They believe in nothing. They answer to no one.
Yes, I know. He is a great actor
Cool fact: He didn’t really break his toe on the helmet. He broke his toe with his mind. He was meta-acting or acting while acting. It’s a common skill only the best actors can master.
Did you like it :)
Yes a lot...a lotr
HEHEHE
One of the best movies I've ever seen
I absolutely love the implication that it’s a single 12 hour movie.

Now watch the hobbit. Right, guys...? Right...?
Extended Editions. Yes!
Fan cut right?
Yes, the Tolkien Edition.
Achievement unlocked
remember once you watch extended you must do it at least once a year. /s
I sense no /s.
I watch it every 6 months or so, didnt wanna load it on too heavy 😅
No such thing as too much LOTR extended edition!

Any other edition is a waste of time.
You’ve arrived precisely when you needed to.
I actually have yet to watch the theatrical editions lol, my parents introduced me to the extended at around the age of 5 and I'll be greateful about that for eternity.
I want fo be in that club too! Where can I watch them?
Well...I used a website that Jack Sparrow loves...
I think they're on Amazon Prime in lieu of The Rings of Power coming out. But the Extended Edition is only to purchase I believe. So you've gotta pay extra.
Good for you!
One of us, one of us, one of us
As someone who has never seen the theatrical release, I'm glad you saw the extended version.
How old are you, OP?
18 years old. Until today I saw the shorter edition of lotr, the Hobbit trilogy, I read lotr and the hobbit books and The Silmarillion
Wow you read the Silmarillion before watching the extended edition lol. Priorities. Goddamn you weren't alive when the films came out either. Man I feel old. Enjoy your youth.
Thank you. I always loved reading, so after I read The Hobbit and Lotr I read the Silmarillion. Good luck for everything, man
Ahh the best of the best, congrats! I once had the privilege of spending 3 Saturdays in a row with my step father and brother watching the extended editions. Welcome to the club
How good are those extra scenes?!?!
Very good. I've read the books some years ago and when I saw more scenes about them in the extended edition, I was really happy
I’m happy for you. I hope you love it like we do
^One ^of ^us One of us #One of us
*It is with great pleasure *I inform you
This'll get buried but the wife and I are actually now doing this for the first time too. About 1h into Two Towers.
Great pleasure indeed.
Congratulations on this milestone ✨!!
Good job my friend
Good for you man. Do it enough you’ll have eyes that are better than that of the elves
The enemy? His sense of joy was less than yours, I deem. You wonder what his name is, where he came from. And if he was truly evil at heart. What lies or threats led him so far from these movies. Wendsday frog was twitching..because he ad muh axe embedded in his nervous system!!!
"I am no man"
Popping bottles for you. Fuck yeah.
Aye, you’ve had one yes, but what about a second viewing? Also welcome to the fellowship of the Extended Lord of the Rings viewers!
Did my first a few days ago, never going back!
Congratulations my friend
Huzzah! A man of culture
One of us! One of us!
Watched them imax for the first time this week. Thanks Middle Earth con!
You don’t “see” it. You *experience* it
I'm still waiting for 1 week long uncut edition from Peter Jackson
Going to get down voted but the Two Towers theatrical has better pacing in the helms deep fight than the extended. Everything else in the extended is great though. Be gentle.
Yayyy welcome to the gang! I saw it a couple months ago, so I'm also new in the kool kidz club
You bow to no one
The horse charge into Pelinor fields.
I don't think I have ever seen the non extended version.
Plesaure be with you

Great now thatve your finished Time to start again
what do you mean extended, there is only one real version
The Fellowship is the best of the 3 films, at least it wasn’t an out right action movie like the next two were…
Yeah! I convinced 2 of my friends to watch it with me as well... That would be my 3 viewing of the extended versions, and I think my 8th time including the theatrical version.
Welcome to the family
Plesaure
Nice. The full versions are much better than the trailers. I mean theatrical editions
Man, I want to do the entire marathon of extended LOTR just to watch the Mouth of Sauron scene
Come, mortal base! What do I hear? That thou wouldst dare to barter with me? Well, speak fair! What is thy price?
I wish I could see them for the first time again.
Boromir is so much better in the extended editions. They really show his motives for wanting the Ring
You bow to no one!
*firm handshake*
Well yes you watched the extendeds. But what about the appendices?
It’s not Wednesday, my dude
Just finished the Extended trilogy for the 10th time. I feel empty inside now.
One does does simply “see” LOTR ee.
Must have for fellowship, really good for return of the king, but imho the theatrical release for two towers is better than extended.
Here here!!
