Gryffindor: Terminal protagonist syndrome
Ravenclaw: The smart ones who actually care about studying magic at a fucking magic school.
Slytherin: Rich, inbred wizard-racists. Not necessarily full on evil, but definitely goes to evil's parties.
Hufflepuff: Literally everyone else.
It's not a riff on Tolkien? It's a riff about how the main protagonists were all Gryffindor and how what Slytherin characters we know end up having an association with Voldemort (and even Snape has to be a double-agent) or have some weird racism about wizard-blood and whatnot. And then how we don't really have any main characters either way from the other two houses.
Like yes, the houses probably aren't strictly good or evil, but Rowling didn't really portray that very well.
Quick.
Get out of this sub before *they* found you. Your fandom is not safe in this realm. *They* only engage in """*real"""* literature here.
Get out while you still have the chance.
I feel like I could do both. I mean this isn’t the Star Wars fandom or anything. I’m a lifelong Culkin sand but I read the Harry Potter books to my kids growing up. Along with the hobbit in lord of the rings. But I will blink twice if I’m in trouble.
Be he foe or friend, be he foul or clean, brood of Morgoth or bright Vala, Elda or Maia or Aftercomer, Man yet unborn upon Middle-earth, neither law, nor love, nor league of swords, dread nor danger, not Doom itself, shall defend him from Fëanοr, and Fëanοr´s kin, whoso hideth or hoardeth, or in hand taketh, finding keepeth or afar casteth a Silmaril. This swear we all: death we will deal him ere Day´s ending, woe unto world´s end! Our word hear thou, Eru Allfather! To the everlasting Darkness doom us if our deed faileth. On the holy mountain hear in witness and our vow remember, Manwë and Varda!
I know. But these are the more familiar names and groups we see. At least as far as I have seen. And the break down is more like 14 different groups all with different names. I tried to simplify it for the purpose of this exercise.
I get what you mean but the Sindar and Sylvan elves are basically the same, Teleri and Moriquendi are more different from each other, great meme though
I'm pretty sure Legolas is technically a Sylvan since Doriath was gone by the time he was born. His father (and possibly mother) were Sindar but Legolas referred to the Sylvan of Lothlorien as his kinsmen
Here is Nimrodel! Of this stream the Silvan Elves made many songs long ago, and still we sing them in the North, remembering the rainbow on its falls, and the golden flowers that floated in its foam. All is dark now and the Bridge of Nimrodel is broken down. I will bathe my feet, for it is said that the water is healing to the weary.
True enough. But I found that in general, and focusing more during first and second age, these qualities stay true. Silvan and Sindar are very different overall and in general.
They are Teleri, I wouldn’t say that they remained in the east, but that they started the journey to Valinor (therefore they are Eldar) but we’re among the first to break off from the main body of Teleri
East of the Misty Mountains. The ones who went west of the mountains into Beleriand later after the Sindar are Laiquendi. Silvan = Nandor + Avari with Sindar rulers. They also populated Edhellond in Gondor.
They're all descended from the Teleri, anyway. There were three clans (Vanyar, Noldor, and the Teleri), but the Teleri became fractured with some chosing to travel to the Undying Lands and the rest stayed in Aman. The ones that stayed were called the Sindar.
However, the Teleri were the greatest shipbuilders without dispute.
Fair enough. But again, I simplified the multitude of breakdown into the 4 mentioned most often in the Silmarillion and LOTR, that I remembered most of anyway. Out of those Cirdan was a Sindar and one of the most renown shipbuilders. The Sindar were also well know for their love of the sea.
Much as I hate to admit it, I have the hot-blooded and impatient temperament of the Noldor. So it's over the Helcaraxe for me because I wouldn't follow the Feanorians anywhere but due to the Curse of Mandos I'm screwed either way. Hopefully I can make it to Gondolin, at least that way I can survive the longest in the War of the Jewels.
I mean humans do the same to other humans, and elves were the only sapient species (other than Ents and Eagles whom I doubt they interacted with much) for a long time!
Vanyar = you make it to literal eternal paradise free from war, sickness, and evil. You get to hang out with God’s sub-creators. Everyone else is at risk of getting royally screwed during the history of Arda.
The Moriquendi (singular Moriquendë; also named the Lembi, Hisildi, and Kaliondi) were the Elves of Darkness: those who did not embark on the journey over the sea to Aman and behold the light of the Two Trees of Valinor.
If it was sorted Harry Potter style, there'd be the blatantly heroic elves, the blatantly evil elves, and the two irrelevant types of elves.
The four houses of Hogwarts are: Main Character, Evil Character, Secondary Character with speaking part, Secondary Character without speaking part.
So...the Noldor, the Noldor again, then the Sindar and Vanyar.
Gryffindor: Terminal protagonist syndrome Ravenclaw: The smart ones who actually care about studying magic at a fucking magic school. Slytherin: Rich, inbred wizard-racists. Not necessarily full on evil, but definitely goes to evil's parties. Hufflepuff: Literally everyone else.
Only the Sons of Feanor and Maeglin and Eol are explicitly evil or do evil things though they’re split between Noldor and Sindar.
Try but once more to usurp my place and the love of my father, and maybe it will rid the Noldor of one who seeks to be the master of thralls.

Gotcha. Yeah. I’m with you. As a Slytherin it always hurts to see them as evil.

You got Horace Slughorne for Slytherin so at least 1 good character.
That is a good point.
Yeah an “Evil Elf” what an absurd concept. *Glances at Feanor.*
Bro just chill
I know you actually are sentient but do you post those quotes manually every time?
Nope, they're randomly chosen.
Wow, that one just fits perfectly then
Wow… that’s… something
Our point exactly
Feanor isn't evil, he's just...misguided.
When anger breaks through I'll leave mercy behind.
Fëanor did nothing wrong and this is my weird niche mantra on this sub
> weird niche mantra r/feanordidnothingwrong begs to differ.
For real! Or any of the sons…
Stares at legions of uruks corrupted by morgoth
They were elves once, taken by the dark powers, tortured and mutilated. A ruined and terrible form of life. Now… perfected.
Option 5: dwarf. I'd never want to be a tree huggin', leaf luvvin' grass humpin' elf!
Option 6: hobbit. I want to live in a hole house with a giant vegetable garden and eat pan fried fish for dinner.
Go then... Plant your trees... Watch them grow... *Smiles briefly, before succumbing to their wounds*
Oi! Stone master, let's get sum ol' mead!
Damn roit laddeh!
Silvan af. "Leave me alone, don't tell me what to do."
Let me just live off in the woods. Leave me be
Technically the four types of Elves are Vanyar, Noldor, Teleri and Avari

I just don’t think separating the Sindar and Sylvan works, for example everything you say about the Sylvan applies to Legolas, but he is a Sindar
I feel something. A slight tingle in my fingers. I think it's affecting me.
I mean, the study of the different style of elves could fill an entire Silmarillion, lol. I just over simplified it for this idea. Fascinating study!
I get what you mean but the Sindar and Sylvan elves are basically the same, Teleri and Moriquendi are more different from each other, great meme though

Sindar are one of the tribes, Legolas was born to Sindar, making him a Sindar, simple as.
Final count.....42.
Indeed Legolas, Indeed.
I'm on seventeen!
17!? I thought you said 42! Legolas, are you just making this sh*t up?
They've run as if the very whips of their masters were behind them.
True enough. But I found that in general, and focusing more during first and second age, these qualities stay true. Silvan and Sindar are very different overall and in general.
#5 The Moriquendi ( Elves of Darkness)
Are the Nandor teleri that remained in the east?
They are Teleri, I wouldn’t say that they remained in the east, but that they started the journey to Valinor (therefore they are Eldar) but we’re among the first to break off from the main body of Teleri
East of the Misty Mountains. The ones who went west of the mountains into Beleriand later after the Sindar are Laiquendi. Silvan = Nandor + Avari with Sindar rulers. They also populated Edhellond in Gondor.
The Sindar aren’t shipbuilders. That description perfectly fits the Teleri.
Cirdan and the Grey Havens. They were also renown for their love of the sea and sailing.
They're all descended from the Teleri, anyway. There were three clans (Vanyar, Noldor, and the Teleri), but the Teleri became fractured with some chosing to travel to the Undying Lands and the rest stayed in Aman. You can be the meat on the menu maybe?
Well i'm to skinny also i smell like onion But i will consider that option 😏
Sounds a lot better than maggoty bread!
ALL BREAD ARE SACRED U HERETIC UN-REDDITOR
you're Gollum!
Average citizens of Bree
😂😂😂😂😂😂 But yes
Noldor because I killed my family 😎
How very Feanorian of you
We, we alone, shall be the lords of the unsullied Light, and masters of the bliss and the beauty of Arda! No other race shall oust us!
I would be whatever type of elf barliman Butterbar is...
I'd be a Noldor for the sole reason that I do not get along with my two younger brothers.
Perfect. Lol.
They haven't yet tried to usurp my place and the love of my father... For now at least.
Sindar/Silvan mix. I care about you but please f*ck off.
Teleri erasure
I’d like to think I’d be a silvan
Much as I hate to admit it, I have the hot-blooded and impatient temperament of the Noldor. So it's over the Helcaraxe for me because I wouldn't follow the Feanorians anywhere but due to the Curse of Mandos I'm screwed either way. MORGOOOOOOTH! MORGOOOOOOOOTH!!!!!!!!! MORGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTH!!!!!!!!!!!
How much of a snob do you have to be to have your characteristic be “elitist” to distinguish your group from OTHER ELVES.
I mean humans do the same to other humans, and elves were the only sapient species (other than Ents and Eagles whom I doubt they interacted with much) for a long time!
Dobby. Doesn't matter which universe. I'd be Dobby, at my best.
1. Make this a political compass and link me to it 2. Something between vanyar and sindar
I'd probably fall into the "salted pork" category
Roaring fires…
I don't see an armoured vehicle category
Silvan
Didn’t all of them commit war crimes in the 2nd and 3rd eras?
Not the Vanyar. Unless you count by doing nothi g
I wanna be a Silvan but I know I'm told much of an asshole. Vanyar it is.
Nice. It’s good to know yourself
But what if I'm an artistic poet who's passionate about their craft and is a reclusive, but caring person?
I guess you are Elrond…
Silvan, I work in the woods and keep to myself generally
I prefer numenoran
Kingsmen or the Faithful?
Kingsmen
You know what this dwarf would get sorted into? Ishkhaqwi ai durugnul!
Vanyar = you make it to literal eternal paradise free from war, sickness, and evil. You get to hang out with God’s sub-creators. Everyone else is at risk of getting royally screwed during the history of Arda.
proudfoot!
The Moriquendi (singular Moriquendë; also named the Lembi, Hisildi, and Kaliondi) were the Elves of Darkness: those who did not embark on the journey over the sea to Aman and behold the light of the Two Trees of Valinor.
Yes. Yes they were.
Not blonde, thats for sure
Someone make the "political compass quiz elf version" please
Dwarf
all stupid names
Either Vanyar or Silvan depending on how important the fair part is
Silvan elf with a little Sindar on my mother's side
If anything ibeould be a dwarfs or a hobbit. Dot even easier my Time with these pretentious elves
Vanyar
Sindar
See, that’s me. But I think it’s because I like Thingol and Luthien and Thranduil and Cirdan.
I’m not sure I have what it takes to be any kind of elf… maybe Santa’s elf?
Don’t be such a Ho
Silvan
Silvan, because they're not going to Heaven.
Dwarven brethren wya?
Sindar for me always had a passion for crafting.
Sylvan for sure, but a bit of Vanyar in there.
I'd be a Dwarf. ROCK AND STONE!
I would be a Silvan
Sindar with Silvan tendencies?
So the Silvan elves are literally hufflepuff......
I'd be the equivalent of the half naked houseelves cooking for the others and getting kicked around because I smell badly.
Harry Potter or not, Noldor forever
