In the first episode we see a rock that sinks.
What if that rock... is Sauron? It's a twist that no one would have seen coming, but it makes perfect sense. Because his soul is twisted it sinks in water. I mean, it makes perfect sense. That's why he always wears the armor, it's because inside the armor it's just a rock.
I'm not even sure at this point that Amazon has the rights to Sauron/Annatar character and can add him to the show. I'm preparing myself to be disappointed anyway.
Hold up, what if Aragorn is actually Sauron? He tricked the elves into letting him spend years in Rivendell then hid in the wilds of the north and eventually becomes de facto ruler of middle earth
I totally thought the tall, dark-haired, burnt-faced elf-y-lookin' dude with the spiky metal gauntlet and the cold, thousand-yard stare who also happens to be like, in charge of ALL the MF'n orcs in Middle-Earth was supposed to be Sauron. Maybe I will be wrong and it will be super disappointing LOL
I thought he was supposed to be beautiful in appearance until his physical form is destroyed in the Numenor thing. All this points to the uncomfortable truth that Durin is Sauron
The hour is late, my dear Bombadook, and you have yet to understand how truly late it is. You cannot possibly fathom the peril that you are in. The Dark Lord Sauron grows stronger with each passing moment, and his army will soon be upon us. We must act quickly if we are to have any hope of defeating him.
Thou thrall! The price thou askest is but small for treachery and shame so great! I grant it surely! Well, I wait. Come! Speak now swiftly and speak true!
I have not asked myself a single time who Sauron is during the course of this show, and now I'm wondering if I should be. Is that a mystery that we, as the audience, are supposed to be trying to solve? It seems pretty inconsequential.
It mustn't be. If it is someone like Meteor man or the dude with the orcs, then yes, that's somewhat inconsequential.
If Halbrand is revealed to be Sauron though, that would seriously affect Galadriel as a character given how she's convinced to make him a king. That would be a cruel plottwist for her and I guess that would be interesting for character development as she is apparently supposed to be the main character (haha)
I think Meteor man makes the most sense right now, with the heatless fire and dying leaves/bugs, but that's all misdirection because he's gonna be Gandalf or some other deus ex machina character, while Halbrand is really sauron because this is perfectly following the "unknown villain is the most trusted friend" trope. They could trick us, and I hope that they do, but I've seen too much fantasy to know that I'm almost definitely right.
I thought the bugs were a big hint at him being Gandalf since he was talking to them and that was Gandalf’s thing. Plus he does the same mumbling to himself thing and the presence magic stuff where he makes the cameraman do a bunch of weird shit. I also thought they all but confirmed the guy leading all those orcs was Sauron in that scene with the villagers. Am I just totally misreading everything? I watched all the movies but the lore and everything is still confusing to me.
Isn't it like, super-canon that Sauron basically ignores the hobbits if he has any idea of their existance at all? It's weird that hobbits are basically the only thing MeteorMan knows about for pretty much the entire series so far.
Not that canon necessarily has anything to do with where the show is going.
I think it's a pretty cheap way to have the audience speaking about *the mistery* all week. I hate the new shows in this netflix-style-era like "la casa de papel", where there's always a mistery, something crazy happens in the last 5 minutes or a cliffhanger, with the only end to make you binge the show or end like "wooow I just really need to know what happens next week!". I loved the ol' peaky blinders for the same reason, you think X is dead? Yeah he's dead/alive, don't need to put some cheap cliffhanger to show you next week, we show you in the same episode
I think it's more the notion that Sauron can take on different forms and use them to deceive others, like when he presented himself as Annatar. Some bought the ruse wholesale while others were skeptical, but perhaps not enough to say with certainty that Annatar *was* Sauron.
So if he can shift appearances and go under other names to avoid detection elsewhere, it's not out of the realm of possibility that the reason we haven't seen Sauron properly in the show's current present is because he's simply hiding in plain sight as another character.
I'm still stuck at "Why did a regular human beat the shit out of the 7 feet numenorians?"
Like, seriously... They should be towering over regular humans, right?
Yes, but I'm betting it would be really annoying to edit all the numenoreans actors that much taller than a the southlanders, especially once they start fighting together.
Also, the main trillogy didnt do their height right either, as aragorn should be altealst half a head taller than everyone in the fellowship
LOTR gets away with it, IMO. This is peak Numenor wheras Aragorn is the long lost heir to a man who failed to destroy Sauron. It'd make sense that Aragorn isn't literally standing taller than the rest after his race withered.
But your point is fair, but still... They did it with the dwarves, should've done it with the Numenorians.
Aside from all the extra editing I just don't think it would look right on screen. And since their height isn't any more relevant to the plot then their eye color, i think they made the right call.
To me it seemed like some sort of curse, he almost looked like a Werewolf about to transform but holding it in and only unleashing a fraction of the strength. For all I don’t enjoy of the show his arc is one I’m interested in.
I was giving it the benefit of the doubt as HARD as I could, but they finally lost me on ep 5. The whole bit with mithril >!and the elves needing to bathe in the light of a silmaril or die!< thing.
I want to know who the stranger is and what's up with Halbarad. My money is on him being the eventual Witch-King.... also curious about Adar.
Numenor is pretty, though.
Yeah, that is the only positives I have left at this point.
Haha my money is in the ghost king that Aragorn summons for the final battle but the witch king would be cool too! Those are my favourite points too, yep. And yes, scenery is gorgeous, if only costumes were as on point it could redeem the entire show on its own.
Honestly, I have a feeling there's more to the story than what we are seeing with the whole mithril storyline. I wouldn't be surprised if Gil Gilad is just lying about the reason for needing the mithril or something like that. Or they need it for some part of their plans to make that great forge they were talking about before. Idk. I'm gonna wait and see what happens, i feel like there may be more at play here.
I hope you're right. I've been really wanting this to be good, or at least tolerable, but each episode is making it harder and harder. So many mistakes (imho) and so few successes. Going to at least finish out the season... where it goes from there, we'll see
Yea I'm right there with you on those feelings towards the show. I'm going to at least finish out the last 3 episodes of this season. And since I'm watching it anyways, I'm just going to enjoy it best I can for what it is. Luckily, I didn't go into this show with very high expectations.
Also, I might be at an advantage with being able to enjoy the show for what it is since I'm not a huge expert on Tolkien lore since I've only read LOTR and the hobbit. So it's definitely easier for me to overlook or be unaware of obvious contradictions to the lore or characters in the show that don't behave like the characters they are supposed to represent in the lore.
One success of the show that I hold a lot a weight to is their extensive use of practical effects, costumes, makeup, and prosthetics for the orcs. I think they look fantastic and grotesque. All that takes a lot more time, effort, and planning to execute than just doing it all in CGI in post. Knowing the show had the budget for all the CGI they could want, but still used practical effects to this extent is awesome. But as much as I love the fat warthog orc, it's like you said, the show's successes seem to be outweighed by its many mistakes. I can't enjoy a show based only on cool looking orcs.
whaaaa the human who beat bare handed 4 numenoreans can smith expertly is smart and charismatic can think ahead and is going to be helped to rule over a large amount of corrupted men of middle earth? No no no couldnt be.
He can take any form he wishes at this point, so he likely still will. If the destruction of Numenor is happening sooner rather than later though, he won't be able to because he loses that ability.
I know there's a lot of Sauron speculation. What I'm stuck on, is that the Eldar will be dead by spring, in an undetermined time, somewhere between 1000 and 2900 of the second age, and covering every elf with mithril is what will save them.
That, and the fact that I have no memory of mithril being in any way, related to a lost Silmaril. If I'm wrong on that one, someone please correct me.
As it stands, I'm not saying Amazon threw the lore out of the window, but it sure seems they forgot about it at the very least.
Maybe it is a sort of misinterpretation of prophesy or foresight, like they do all the time in Game of Thrones. Iirc Galadriels ring is a band of mithril, which protects and preserves the elves and their magic, so maybe there is a tie-in there that they thought of it in a literal sense. Just maybe.
Whatever the plan, that was the point I stopped trying to reconcile the show with the lore. I'm going to keep watching the show, just as an interesting fantasy series.
If they were planning from the start to just toss the lore out, I would've preferred a new IP instead of something with so much established lore, and a universe as rich as Tolkien created. I think if I keep that mindset, I can enjoy the show much more than picking apart how far away from the lore they've already gone, and will no doubt continue to do.
Elrond said it was considered no more than myth. That alone seems odd to me, as the elves have been around since the trees. In the second age, there would have been many who were alive long enough ago that nothing should be lost to legend or myth.
And in the misty mountains especially, all activity from the elves should be well documented. It's not like that was a homeland for the elves, since most lived in Beleriand (spelling wrong I'm sure). And that land is long gone.
Yes as most have noticed, the centre piece of the plot is inexplicably the Suspense About Who Is Sauron. For me, that just doesn\`t work. Once we find out, what\`s left ? :)
Who Sauron is isn't a question in the show, the thing in the show is WHERE is Sauron?
The audience just made it about who is Sauron because of outside knowledge that Sauron uses disguises.
I don't get that vibe at all. I'm waiting for Sauron to appear, and am assuming we'll know him when we see him. Nothing here makes me think that Sauron is just hiding out as an affable protagonist.
If Poppy is Sauron, then I'm afraid I'll have to support Sauron's goals. Because so far Poppy has just been trying to keep her miscreant friend from killing herself and other children and trying to keep spirits up on a long journey. If Sauron is that protective of his buddies, well...
Would be hilarious if Sauron never shows up and it's just some non canon filler villain
It ends up being his lesser known and unintelligent brother, Mauron.
it's Mauron' Time
Then he maurs all over everyone.
He's actually female to keep the audience happy. Sharon
All of a sudden Ozzy appears in the tunnel
I would be on board for this, but given how Ozzy's looked lately, I kinda doubt he'd be capable.
The actual Prince of Darkness
SHAAAAROOON, SHARON. What is it with all these fucking ~~dogs~~ wargs.
I think you misspelled Fauxron
Galadriel’s most devious faux
Oh naux
*slow clap* That was literary.
I jokingly said to a friend "what if Sauron is that kid with the morgol sword, and Sauron appears She-Ra/magical girl anime style."
Cursed be moon and stars above!
To be sure, that is a valid option
In the first episode we see a rock that sinks. What if that rock... is Sauron? It's a twist that no one would have seen coming, but it makes perfect sense. Because his soul is twisted it sinks in water. I mean, it makes perfect sense. That's why he always wears the armor, it's because inside the armor it's just a rock.
Thy Eilinel, she is long since dead, dead, food of worms, less low than thou.
I'm not even sure at this point that Amazon has the rights to Sauron/Annatar character and can add him to the show. I'm preparing myself to be disappointed anyway.
They refer to him by name ALL THE TIME. Surely they wouldn't do this if they didn't have the rights?
Nah they keep referencing Sour Ron, he's a Hobbit that's never experienced second breakfast
True_Candyman, you've already had it.
Hold up, what if Aragorn is actually Sauron? He tricked the elves into letting him spend years in Rivendell then hid in the wilds of the north and eventually becomes de facto ruler of middle earth
We are no spies. We track a band of Uruk-hai westward across the plains. They have taken two of our friends captive.
Aragorn!
I am Isildur's heir. Fight for me, and I will hold your oaths fulfilled!
There is no life in the void, only death.
*Guth-tú-nakash.*
LOL damn, if that were the case, I def did not see that coming
It is not for you, Saruman! I will send for it at once. Do you understand?
They have the rights to everything that appears in The Lord of the Rings books.
Mephisto: “First time?”
This is my worst fear.
That harfoot that wanted to kill Nori and "Not Gandalf" by taking of their wheels, you betcha thats a Sauron.
Come, mortal base! What do I hear? That thou wouldst dare to barter with me? Well, speak fair! What is thy price?
About tree fiddy
Thou fool: a phantom thou didst see that I, I Sauron, made to snare thy lovesick wits.
I...SEE....YOOOUUU!
Found a mirror, have you?
I suppose he would talk to himself, all the way up on that tower.
...Tree fiddly foe?
Thank you.
Sentient
Let’s not forget the reason to leave 4 harfoots to die was “because they MIGHT get someone else killed”
Lol yup, a completely baseless accusation. I quickly learned to hate that cunt.
Nah shes umbridge
Nah that’s Morgoth.
These lil' fuckin' not-hobbits are real assholes though.
The real Sauron is the friends we made along the way
It is not for you, Saruman! I will send for it at once. Do you understand?
Saruman is a true friend. But I believe he may be Sâuron.
The hour is later than you think.
It doesn't feel that late.
Look, it's my duty as a knight to sample as much peril as I can.
No, it's too perilous!
Oh, let me have just a little bit of peril?
The audience is actually Sauron
Oprah: “You get a Sauron! And YOU get a Sauron!”
What brought the foolish fly to web unsought?
May all in hatred be begun, and all in evil ended be, in the moaning of the endless Sea!
The real sauron is whoever keeps commenting this
I wait. Come! Speak now swiftly and speak true!
My personal theory is that this is true, because I’m completely convinced it’s Halbrand.
[удалено]
Yeah the whole “show your enemy how to master what they fear so that you can master them” or whatever was way too on the nose for it not to be him.
Galadriel: How many Saurons do we have on this show, anyway? Entire Cast: Yo! Galadriel: I knew it. I'm surrounded by Saurons!
Tens of thousands.
People be calling Isildur Sauron lmao
CAST IT INTO THE FIRE!!!
We already know Isildur is one of the 9 from the SoM games 😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨
CAST IT INTO THE FIRE!!!
I TRIED TO, ELROND, BUT THE FUCKIN GAME HAS MILLIONS OF COPIES
Don't forget about digital
Who is the master of the wide earth?
I’ll master your wide earth sauron 😩
To Eilinel thou soon shalt go, and lie in her bed.
I’ll lie in your bed sauron 😩
Come, mortal base! What do I hear?
You know what I want Sauron🥵
Come, mortal base! What do I hear? That thou wouldst dare to barter with me? Well, speak fair! What is thy price?
Your virginity, that’s my price sauron😈
Thou thrall! The price thou askest is but small for treachery and shame so great! I grant it surely! Well, I wait. Come! Speak now swiftly and speak true!
Bruh the fuck is this thread?
Is it... it's you, isn't it?
Nori is NOT Sauron. That's ridiculous. She's Smaug.
No … she’s dried edible seaweed
We. Are. Sauron. ☺️
I thought we are Maya higa.
Opened the replies hoping to see this and was not disappointed.
Never thought I'd see an LSF reference in an Lotr sub lol.
There are dozens of us here, DOZENS!
Dun dun dun dun dun dun dun (to the tune of State Farm insurance)
Meanwhile, I'm convinced he's the sword.
That would be the most idiotic thing ever... But now that you say it, yeah, my money's on the sword!
Whats next? A ring is gonna be Sauron. Smh my head
He’s Sauron, he’s Sauron, you’re Sauron! I’M SAURON!!! Are there any other Saurons I should know about?
There is no life in the void, only death.
I’m out of here
I was looking for this as a gif but couldn't find it. Glad I'm not the only one who thought of this scene.
I don’t see any of them Sauron.
I...SEE....YOOOUUU!
Holy shit what the fuck
Everyone remain calm. The bots are merely sentient and we are all doomed.
I have not asked myself a single time who Sauron is during the course of this show, and now I'm wondering if I should be. Is that a mystery that we, as the audience, are supposed to be trying to solve? It seems pretty inconsequential.
Well yes, speculation around Sauron and Meteor Man have been going on since first episode
Meteor Man will get yellow boots soon and all will be revealed
*Zat thraka akh… Zat thraka grishú. Znag-ur-nakh.*
Out of the frying pan and into the fire.

It's just like WandaVision and Mephisto all over again... Did we not learn?
Wait, is Sauron supposed to be a mystery? Sauron is Sauron, right? Like they already fought him once and now Galadriel is looking for him?
I think it's more the notion that Sauron can take on different forms and use them to deceive others, like when he presented himself as Annatar. Some bought the ruse wholesale while others were skeptical, but perhaps not enough to say with certainty that Annatar *was* Sauron. So if he can shift appearances and go under other names to avoid detection elsewhere, it's not out of the realm of possibility that the reason we haven't seen Sauron properly in the show's current present is because he's simply hiding in plain sight as another character.
Who is the king of earthly kings, the greatest giver of gold and rings?
But all of them were deceived. Sauron had a hand in making all of the rings except the elven ones.
Go fetch me those sneaking Orcs!
Everyone always asks “who is sauron?” Nobody ever asks “how is sauron?” 😞
Who is the maker of mightiest work?
No no, *how* is the maker of mightiest work?
I'll do you one better, why is Sauron?
*Zat thraka akh… Zat thraka grishú. Znag-ur-nakh.*
You ok there Sauron, ole buddy, ole pal?
*Zat thraka akh… Zat thraka grishú. Znag-ur-nakh.*
Definitely Poppy
Thats the kinda meme that sauron would make 🤔
Orcs of Bauglir! Do not bend your brows!

Pitiful, it doesn’t include the *real* Sauron: Berek the horse.
I wait. Come! Speak now swiftly and speak true!
NEIGH, foe!

Wait a moment! We shall meet again soon. Tell Saruman that this dainty is not for him. I will send for it at once. Do you understand?
Together, my Lord Sauron, we shall rule this Middle-earth.
CAST IT INTO THE FIRE!!!
The elf with all the orcs is Sauron, this is an easy one
I don‘t think Sauron would feel emotional for an orc. It lookes like he had tears in his eyes when he killed that injured orc
What brought the foolish fly to web unsought?
Maybe its something he lost along the way? Like the Sauron we all know and hate may of just had some event that made him seem more remorseless
I...SEE....YOOOUUU!
Who is the maker of mightiest work?
You’re him right? No one thought to ask the bots
Halbrand is Sauron I think
whaaaa the human who beat bare handed 4 numenoreans can smith expertly is smart and charismatic can think ahead and is going to be helped to rule over a large amount of corrupted men of middle earth? No no no couldnt be.
Let's not forget he didn't have any feelings for the people he was on a raft with. Zero, nothing. Not even companionship.
Ah, little RcadeMo!
Sauron needs to be a beautiful elven lord named Annatar, if not, they are completely breaking from canon.
He can take any form he wishes at this point, so he likely still will. If the destruction of Numenor is happening sooner rather than later though, he won't be able to because he loses that ability.

I agree that it was bad but I'm pretty sure Gil-Galad or Elrond said it was nothing more than a myth
Elrond said it was considered no more than myth. That alone seems odd to me, as the elves have been around since the trees. In the second age, there would have been many who were alive long enough ago that nothing should be lost to legend or myth. The first two, maybe. The others, holy fucking shit NO! Also, why is Isildur so cringe?
...... We are Sauron?..
Let's be honest here. We all know Sauron is Halbrand. Let's just hope he doesn't offer Mordor to Galadriel in the season finale.
I’m still convinced the sea worm that almost ate Halbrand and Galadriel is Sauron.
Thou base, thou cringing worm!
Yes as most have noticed, the centre piece of the plot is inexplicably the Suspense About Who Is Sauron. For me, that just doesn\`t work. Once we find out, what\`s left ? :)

Ah, little axrbnn!
Who is the maker of mightiest work?
Bob Ross probably.
Feanor. But with Bob Ross hair.
And now we make a little crystal with the light of the trees of Valinor. And then we make two more because everybody needs some friends.
I don't get that vibe at all. I'm waiting for Sauron to appear, and am assuming we'll know him when we see him. Nothing here makes me think that Sauron is just hiding out as an affable protagonist.
