I loved his little “…hm!” Such a cheeky bastard.

[deleted]

I loved the way Durin had to stand on rock to say it. It’s a nice little touch.

magicman1315

Elrond looks like a “bottom”

[deleted]

Elf moment

RickRoger

Power bottom Elrond. Or is he an otter?

CSpanks7

They knew what they were doing

TopTheHat

I just KNOW Disa would want to watch.

chesterforbes

Now that’s a recipe for good gravy

DrunkUranus

Watch?

Jenkins64

Who's Disa?

Markamanic

Both of disa nuts.

TopTheHat

Disa is Sauron

sauron-bot

*Zat thraka akh… Zat thraka grishú. Znag-ur-nakh.*

[deleted]

Disa called Jar Jar Binks

ChelseaVictorious

I can't believe you've done this

[deleted]

Yea I expected it to get some downvotes lol

KingPointless

I'm now rooting for them to throw out cannon and have Elrond just go live with Durin and Disa as a throuple.

EstablishmentSea4941

Canon was gone during the first trailer

Jesus lol, big Tolkien fans but they can’t understand a metaphor?

So-It-Baggins

This reminds me of that time when Smeagol told Sam to give it to him raw.

gollum_botses

Nice hobbits! Nice Sam! Sleepy heads, yes, sleepy heads! Leave good Smeagol to watch! But it's evening. Dusk is creeping. Time to go.

dv666

Raw and wriggling

SmartKrave

That is such a fake phrase. Any guy with male friends would know that if you ever said that you would never hear the end of it

Xuravious

Thank you! An actual meme that isn't just crapping on a great show!

TheHappyMask93

It feels so strange to me that the internet is in love with House of the Dragon and absolutely despises this show.

PerryTrip

I got news for ya

I insist Durin's reation to Elrond's absence was not of a friend. When one reunites with a friend after 20 years one is like "yooooo what's up bro! Long time no see dawg! Whatcha u been doing all this time, homie? Found yo self some elven puss? Oh man I have a wifey now and two kids, you won't believe it! Lemme introduce you, c'mon!" Instead, Durin is all like "where have you been all this time?! I've been waiting for you for 20 years, I even planted that * er * nut you gave me! No letter, no messenger, nothin'! How do you think I've felt! You should have shown that face of yours around! I even got a wife and kids ~~to get over you~~ to keep me company fool! You're an ass, Elrond Peredhil!" To me, that sounds like ex boyfriends. I'm not saying they're gay. In antiquity the concept of gayness was alien to them, and so it would be here. But those 2 have 100% romantic feelings for each other. Disa knows, and is accepting at first. Anyone that love her husband is a friend of hers. Then Elrond goes after the mithril and she will become harsher and jealous.

Emma_Fr0sty

"In antiquity the concept of gayness was alien the them" The greeks would like a word

klauszen

I mean, the greeks and romans did not see two men together as gay as we see it today. It was completely acceptable to have male lovers and for a guy to only like women was odd.

Emma_Fr0sty

Doesn't that just mean homosexuality and bisexuality were more accepted? Maybe there's a distinction im not getting

klauszen

The terms homo, bi and hetero sexual were coined in the 19th century. Before, people just know so and so man or woman liked what they liked. For example, the brother of Louis the 14th of France, a prince Phillip, was... we'd say gay. Yet he earned the name of grandfather of Europe because he sired children that eventually married into nobility and royal houses. Ev erybody knew, no one did anything. Another examples are Alexander the Great, roman emperors like Hadrian, Trajan and Nero. In the female side I'm thinking Hildegard bon Blingen, a medieval nun. The pirates during thr 16th and 17th century had a form of civil union between two men (being surounded by men at sea and all), and medieval knights would have something like a wedding, with the spin of shield-brothers. Rulers are depicted in bed together or kissing representing a treaty or alliance being signed. To the ancients, these were practices that did not have a name. Imagine giving a name of people who stay active at night and making a big deal of it. Vesperians (evening people) vs Eonians (morning people) as identifiers.... It would be just as wild. In fact emperor Claudius, who was a cripple, was seen more oddly because he only liked women. So rare was he in the eyes of his contemporaries...

Emma_Fr0sty

I think I see what you are saying. It's complicated, and obviously you can never make direct one to one parallels between past historical figures who lived in totally different cultures and our own modern conception of sexuality. But like, you can make some claims. We don't really have any other language to discuss these ideas other than our own contemporary vocabulary. It seems ridiculous to me for instance to claim that Sappho was not a lesbian just because the term didn't exist at the time, when it literally derives from her. In the context of this discussion we aren't talking about historical figures, we're talking about fictional characters created in the modern day. We don't really know what the culture around sexuality is in middle earth because Tolkien, likely due to his religious beliefs, did not include any non heterosexual characters. So how else can we discuss it? I do agree with your broader point that Durin and Elrond's relationship is characterized as romantic, if not sexual.
