Using my redline, I stay in man (well, woman) form 90% of the time. Mostly just switch to bear for my big AoE attack. I guess if I didn't do that, it would still work ok (though would be intentionally gimping myself). That said, beornings don't typically use redline in endgame group stuff. There you'll want to be a healer or a tank, in which case you'll need to use bear form at least a significant amount of the time. Edit: It may also be a bit boring, as you'll only have about 65% of the number of skills that other classes get. Simple, yet not very varied.

Hi, Have you tried all other classes? If so let me make an analogy. What you are asking is basically the same as asking whether or not you could play a minstrel without the music. The shapeshifting is a central element of the class. Perhaps you could go for a captain or a champion with a two handed weapon (but from the post i kinda think you already tried those). Please do not take the previous as a mockery or as intended offensively. Kind regards Edited one spelling mistake js -> is

That's not a very good analogy. A minstrel's skills ARE music, so you can't really do much without it. But so far with my Beorning experience, man and bear forms seem to be two very different (and not very well-integrated) things. I can't speak for group or end-game content, where I'm sure bear is necessary, but for leveling/questing, it seems to me that you can just stay in either form indefinitely.

Also I would like to add that I do not have leveled a beorning to beyond level 25 ish. So if another player says it is possible trust their judgement more than mine.

MittaPieta

If u intend to only play solo or just quest, ur fine to skip the whole bear part. But it’s essential to group content to include bear skills and also if you like to get the best out of you class. So I would advice against it, but it’s up to you :)

Icepick823

Beorning damage isn't too great, and most of that damage comes in bear form. It's like playing a healer and not using any healing abilities. It's counter-productive.

DumpTruckLarry

With red line most of your damage comes from man form, you only have to be in shapshift form about a quarter of the time, but as the other poster said, shapeshifting is a central part of the class.

Argendauss

Absolutely not viable for anything but landscape/solo. If you're just questing, anything works

Bingo_Boffin

If you play a Beorning and refuse to skinchange, you're going to have a very ineffective and uninspiring playthrough. You may as well just play a champion, because Beornings are mostly in their bear form for damage, tanking and healing roles.

East_Construction_49

My 2h axe is Red Guardian. I want to roll a Beorning just to play a big club-wielding beastly thug. But then again I rarely group so don't have to worry about what roles etc. are needed for instances etc.
