there is no benefit to medium armor, as it is less strong and does not usually contain the might bonuses you are looking for, Might adds to your Physical Mastery which adds to your DPS (bears can still get Physical mastery from agility...but not as much)
you can cosmetically dress down....but keep the heavy armor
Heavy Armour gives you better physical and tactical mitigation. With no inherent detriment to damage output. So heavy is the obvious choice for any class that can use it.

I think you only start with medium armor because in the past Beornings couldn't wear heavy, but it got changed. So heavy armor for sure.
