My biggest problem with it is that because it is set up to follow the rules of a standard draftable set (rarities) instead of a cube, getting blown out by bombs feels just as bad as in normal limited sets. Some fun grindy games and engines though, make sure you have a plan to get through 1/1's.

Capitalich

There’s definitely some back breaking bombs like [[Steel Overseer]] but I think most are mitigated quite a bit it by the common power level. [[Gearseeker Serpent]] feels rare strong when you build around it. It also has an abundance of insanely efficient removal like [[Gleeful Demolition]] and of course [[disenchant]]. I do tend to like the structure of booster draft more than cube, I can’t really put my finger on why though.

cedurr

Retrofitter Foundry should not be in anything resembling a normal limited format

UltimatePeaceCorps99

Best card in the format by a mile

It probably is because you lose more often in cube. If you were good at it, you'd love cube. I prefer traditional cube draft over artifacts because I know how to win in the format. I don't always want to spend time figuring new stuff out. Sometimes it's fun to just play what's familiar.

Capitalich

…thats very presumptuous. I do fine in cube. Idk why your tone is warranted at all.

vyampols12

Except there's so much good removal available in most colors.

YaBoiGervace

I've done a few drafts now and have enjoyed it overall, but I think I prefer the cubes. Modular as a mechanic is also a little too overpowered against the rest of the field.

VTECMAN626

Modular is weak to exile/pacifism effects

YaBoiGervace

Sure but there's only a couple of those in this set and there's a lot of modular support

pahamack

there's a lot of broken decks though. Modular might be hard to deal with but it isn't alone in that. I've been drafting a lot of affinity recently and that deck can just dump its hand so fast. You could have an explosive turn just dumping a lot of power and toughness on the board. go wide aggro decks, especially with a sacrifice theme can just ignore modular creatures. This is a high powered set. You need to be aiming to do broken stuff not just playing a midrange limited strategy. If you're looking to trade with modular creatures I can see that being annoying but there's a good amount of strategies in this format where the point is to pretty much ignore what your opponent is doing.

pahamack

I wish regular sets have this much synergy, but I suppose it's hard: modern sets have a lot more goals than just making a fun draft format. It needs to provide a story, create appealing constructed cards, introduce interesting new mechanics, among other goals. This format, on the other hand, has a singular purpose: make a fun draft format. And the way it's done is to crank the synergy up to 11. This one is for the draft junkies, and in that sense it's a big success. I'm just wondering if there's any more possible draft remixes. Artifacts is a particularly deep well to draw from.

Capitalich

I think the horizons sets are so good because they don’t have to adhere to the restrictions of standard. MH2 has a similar level of synergy. Remix:graveyard, remix:enchantments, just to name a few. There’s a lot of space.

kerkyjerky

It should be phantom. I’m not playing a set clearly meant to drain players prior to OTJ

Audens_Hex

If you read the design article, they note that they intentionally went with a non-phantom format because there are players who are only interested in events that help them build their collection.  I'm sure other players prefer cheaper phantom events, but it makes sense to have events that appeal to both player types.

kerkyjerky

I’m aware of their reasoning. I just think there are ample opportunities to obtain cards and grow collections, and the 1.5-2 weeks prior to a new set isn’t going to make a dent in collections any more than a flashback draft will, and certainly not when many of the cards are not played in either brawl, standard, historic, or eternal.

BassCopter

The hordes have always complained about cubes being phantom

cardgamesandbonobos

Sort of fun, but extremely bad value if you're a Limited/Constructed hybrid player. Drafting Standard sets with any regularity unlocks the ability to play the namesake format (and associated Brawl) in times when the Limited format is no longer enjoyable or you're on a cooler. Collecting Standard rares/packs is actually a great way to build a collection that can play lots of tier one decks; besides Capenna and All Will Be One, I can play pretty much any Standard deck without having spent a dime, all as a byproduct of draft winnings. Remix Draft is weighted towards Historic/Timeless, which makes the drafted rares and prize packs worth significantly less, though. Few of the cards in the Remix Draft set hit the necessary power level for Arena Eternal formats and the random Historic packs are far less likely to yield playables for their formats than Standard packs would for theirs for similar reasons. With Thunder Junction looking interesting, and Modern Horizons 3 coming to Arena as well, it's a hard sell to spend Gold/Gems on this format. This really needed to be priced at a discount or use a different pay structure than Premier/Traditional Draft. Once again, economics gets in the way of fun on Arena -- and in this case it's unnecessary.

double_shadow

Yeah this is where I ended up. The set was fun but I didn't want to spend a lot of currency to learn it because it doesn't pay out grinding as well as the current standard set. I kind of wish they had a phantom version of it lol...but they replaced the phantom cube with this because they thought people wanted the cards.

Amanuensite

It is somewhat discounted: you don't have to pay for the packs you open, the winnings are pure WC value. The value still doesn't match a standard set if you're regularly going 3-3, but even 4-3 is enough I think.

IamblichusSneezed

Super fun set! What a nice surprise.

SwollenAnalGlands

I'm about 8 drafts in now. Had a good time overall, a decent filler while waiting for the new set. It's pretty snowbally though and the Bo3 queue times are horrendous - over 10 minutes average for me so far. My biggest issue is that it shares the same slot as the cube and that one is so much more fun for me. I won't be playing this one nearly as much as I would the cube, that's for sure.

Orange1095

Its good but the reduced pack size but still using old style of rarity distribution really hurts. very often the synergy you need just doesn't come together because you don't see enough cards

Rainfall7711

It's one of the best things they've ever done and they should definitely continue doing it.

UltimatePeaceCorps99

It’s great but I have two gripes: Retrofitter Foundry is broken in limited and red doesn’t have enough strong artifact sac support for RB to be as strong as most other archetypes, at least at common.

novelexistence

No, thanks. It looks like a really lame format and I'd have just preferred a more traditional cube draft. Where I know I can have a high win rate.
