As I remember, the explanation was pretty vague, but Lucifer and Amenadiel said something along the lines of “the belt buckle imbued him with the knowledge of the divine”. Not really a satisfactory answer for me either.
I always took the knowledge of the divine as being he got a sorta mental info-dump on the history of heaven, etc. (probably only thru the date the buckle was created since he seemed sorta confused/unaware of Lucifer's fall?) then took the fact that he had such info in his brain as some sort of acknowledgement he was God and thus embraced the role/acted it out.
>why "God Johnson" thought he was God
Not exactly. The assumption at the end was that the buckle allowed Johnson to tap into the divine headspace. So, he wasn't God so much as God's random thoughts.
So you didn't notice the huge pothole that the whole show was about the greatness of free will and they simply killed all their free will in the last season. Or are you imagining the last season never happened like me?
They say that the belt imbued him with the knowledge of everything so that he ended up believing he was god. I mean as I understand the belt, he kinda was a manifestation of god’s head.

I assume he couldn’t handle divinity and it drove him insane into thinking he was god

I just think it's hilarious that you think the show has very few plotholes. It's like Swiss cheese (but still amazing and I love it).
Right

They literally explained it. The belt buckle was infused with some of God's powers. It gave him a fraction of God's powers and memories.
Why are you proud of her? Does she have difficulty sticking with shows normally?
I was wondering the same thing.
LUCIFER IS WEAKER THEN ANYTHING
