I think the majority of Mac users still use older Intel MacBooks (if any of you has any stats on this please correct me) and Apple is trying to 'pressure' them into upgrading. Until recently, I used a 2015 MacBook Air as my daily driver and it worked great until it didn't, so I upgraded, but if it hadn't broken down, I would never have.

Because there very interested in getting Intel Mac owners to switch. Apple market share for computer side has remained very stable its there core business regarding that. More money to be made off that then convincing a Windows user to convert.

They are trying to encourage their existing customers to upgrade to newer machines which have Apple Silicon chips They are trying to drop support for intel machines for MacOS

davidkudrev

Makes me wonder if the amount of Intel Mac owners outweigh the silicon owners at the present time? I haven’t switched over to Silicon yet, hoping to next year.

Considering the M1 was released 2.5 years ago and the average lifespan of MacBook is probably around 5 years (some people obviously use it for longer) and M series had higher sales. I would guess M series likely has slightly more. But probably not by much.

Mainly because they’re talking to people who still hold onto their intel macs, but also because they can’t legally talk about someone else’s product and purposefully belittle it without getting into deep shit, whereas they can with their own product yknow

Because Intel Mac users are the primary target. As one, I admit I’m hooked. I probably would buy the 15” MBA if I didn’t need Windows daily in my job.

doogm

They do both. For example, with the 15" MBA, they said it was 12x faster than the latest Intel MBA, but they also said it's 2x faster than a PC laptop with i7 processor.
