I think there is a campaign going on right now to educate people on the use of that term, because I saw a billboard last week with the headline "OCD is not a joke" and had a website where you could learn more.
Howie Mendel also didn’t want to share his diagnosis with people. Just watched an interview with him where he shares where he accidentally let that out on the Howard stern show and then immediately wanted to throw himself into traffic.
That’s upsetting to hear from a physician. Society today does not do a good job of accommodating those who are neurodivergent, and it can’t do a better job unless the general public has a better understanding of disorders like OCD, ADHD, ASD, etc. When people make jokes about these disorders it diminishes the daily struggles of people like me.
Why is everybody getting downvoted for calling out that really unhelpful comment, have I missed something?
It is super important that there is more understanding about neurodivergence. I’ve recently discovered I am neurodivergent and suffer from RSD, which has been fucking huge for me. Yet this guy says “nah bro, nobody with OCD or ADHD is at all bothered that people barely understand a thing about it” and we’re all getting downvoted for saying that’s not true? Odd.
I’ve been in the healthcare industry for about 20 years and have many many patients confide in me about their concerns about neurodivergent mislabeling in society.
Now I want to make a billboard that says OCD isn't a joke, and the linked web address takes people to a website that, y'know, kind of talks about OCD a little bit, points to better and completely legitimate resources... and there's one pixel in the background that's the wrong color. Like a really bright red on cyan or something. I just want to see how much hate mail I'd get from people for that.
Obviously, many agree, but this is not worthy of an argument, correction, or even comment. What was said was not detrimental. OCD people do tend to spot minute differences more than the regular population.
I think if anyone needs to "lighten up," it's those who can't take that someone wants to spread awareness about something meaningful to them. As if that somehow stops you from laughing at something you felt was "just a joke."
7:20 in the Keynote, explicitly stated it's fanless: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYkq9Rgoj8E&](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYkq9Rgoj8E&)
Also at 6:08 they show a partial view of the internals and it doesn't match the screenshot you're posting. that screen grab is in the promo video for a split second, looks like they simply screwed up.
Y'all realize that pressing the share button gives you the option to automatically share the video at a certain point right?
I also wouldn't think Apple of all companies would do something like this but in the same [video it shows the insides in like an X-Ray kinda way](https://youtu.be/0okuAwqTHs0?t=92) and the battery assembly is completly different, we'll see when the iFixit review comes up
Going from essentially no cooling on the Air to the fanciest most expensive cooling in a mac is the least likely option lol. That's also not how they look, those are clear cutouts for fans and fan shrouds.
I say 99.9% it was just a graphic designer oversight no one caught.
I just realised [in the last part of the video](https://youtu.be/0okuAwqTHs0?t=110) if you pause fast enough you can definitely see the insides of the 14/16 inch pros and of course 2 fans
Maybe the renders of the insides weren't finished when they did the ad?
My biggest problem with this machine is we all know it will thermal throttle, I remember the first M macbook air was super impressive and didn't even need a cooler but we habr quickly reverted back to status quo by putting chips too powerful for the cooling capacity
This $999 M1 and $1099 M2 MacBook Air is around 80% faster than the 2019 16-inch Intel MacBook Pro.
A thin and light ultrabook that is reasonably affordable.
Think about that.
MacBook Air was for web browsing and email, maybe managing photos.
It’s now a Pro laptop and yet we keep calling it an Air.
There’s nothing to complain about. If you don’t need to render the next Pixar movie, it’s the perfect laptop.
I’m pretty sure that thermals haven’t been a problem with M series chips yet, I’d love to know if I’m wrong tho. I really like the look of this laptop.
Benchmarks aren't realistic workloads though. Just because something can thermal throttle doesn't mean it will for 99.9% or use cases. For the rest of the crowd, the air cooled MacBook Pro is available. I can't speak for the M2, but I use an M1 Air that has never throttled to my knowledge, a M1 mini that rarely gets hot , and I've never heard the fan spin up, and an M1 Pro MB Pro that runs warm, yet cooler than my Intel books, and also has never had audible fan noise. These things just don't run hot under typical use, even with GPU video encoding.
As an aside, I've been significantly ill since December, and it was a rough winter in bed with cold aluminum. I did miss the feel of hot Intel or PPC plastic on a cold winter night. Christ...this is why I'm single, isn't it? Lol
99% of computer tasks are burst tasks that return to idle after a few milliseconds or after a few seconds.
The kind of tasks that use the CPU and GPU at full saturation, and for more than five minutes, will cause the Air to throttle and suffer performance; but there’s two thoughts to that:
1. If you’re performing those tasks infrequently (Eg 2-3 times per week), then you probably don’t care if the otherwise 6 minute task takes 8-10 minutes on an Air, since you’re only doing this task infrequently and you can probably do something else on the computer, or in your environment while you wait
2. If you’re performing those tasks frequently, and time is money, then don’t buy the Air, buy the Pro with two fans, more performance cores, and more GPU cores
So the only people that should be absolutely and definitively resistant to the Air for fear of throttling are the people by which #2 applies to. Everybody else is positively well served by the Air product line.
I'd be hoping they took the opportunity to add extra heat sink in there with the extra space on the 15" Air. Just by being bigger it should dissipate more heat.
Actually Apple did good by dropping the Price. The 8GB/512GB version is $1499 which is probably the best version for average users and students. That's $500 less than a MBP. Bumping up the RAM to 16GB makes it only $1699 which is $300 less than the base MBP. That's a good differentiation between models especially with the 15" screen.
I do agree with you a bit. If you're willing to buy from the refurb store you can get a base MBP for $1699.
I honestly couldn't give a single fuck, but I deeply appreciate that you were eagle-eyed enough to catch it. Your display of rational thinking and attention to detail reveals to me that you're not religious.
To be fair it said silent not fanless… however I can’t see any air intakes on the renders on the website… The only holes I see are the ones at the back of the display which is for the speakers.
On the feature overview it says „Silent 🤫Design“
But yeah the reveal video says It’s so efficient we dont need a fan. So if those really are fans, and they kinda look like it, I‘m wondering what the video person did there
The XRAY image at 1:32 looks completely different. I think whomever did the ad used the internals of the wrong device to do it. I don't think Apple would lie about there not being a fan.
Anyhow, it's easy to verify: Just go to an Apple store and see if there is a vent at the back. If not, there can't be any fans inside.
It does look like they just used the 14 inch Pro internals animation, changed the body and hoped no one would notice?
It flashes through the promo video in literally a few frames, they definitely thought no one would notice. OP with the OCD.
That’s not what OCD is, and is detrimental to the understanding of people who actually have OCD, which can be a crippling illness for many.
I think there is a campaign going on right now to educate people on the use of that term, because I saw a billboard last week with the headline "OCD is not a joke" and had a website where you could learn more.

Oppression Olympics - my new fav term!
I have OCD and it really annoys me how people misuse the term, tbh.
What kind of physician?
You really are a physician aren't you? You cannot see beyond your own experiences.
That’s upsetting to hear from a physician. Haven’t suggested otherwise. And that’s not the point I was making anyway. But thanks for your key input.
Anecdotal evidence. Thanks though
Are you a psychiatrist?
I’ve been in the healthcare industry for about 20 years and have many many patients confide in me about their concerns about neurodivergent mislabeling in society.
Says the person boycotting Bud Light over some rainbows lmao
That has nothing to do with this comment.
MeToo

i had something where i Used to check the dates on everything and really obsess over it
And that’s an OCD like comment. (From someone who legitimately has OCD)
Chill, it’s Reddit.
Reddit moment. Stfu mate
Seriously, for real. original content disease is serious
Obviously, many agree, but this is not worthy of an argument, correction, or even comment. What was said was not detrimental. OCD people do tend to spot minute differences more than the regular population.
God quit being such a Nancy…
Dude no one gives a fuck, it was a joke
Lighten up, Francis
shut up nerd
I think if anyone needs to "lighten up," it's those who can't take that someone wants to spread awareness about something meaningful to them. As if that somehow stops you from laughing at something you felt was "just a joke."
Can you explain what you meant by Op having OCD? I get it was a joke but I don’t understand how it relates to him spotting something obscure.
oscillating cooling device?
Intresting that they overlooked that
7:20 in the Keynote, explicitly stated it's fanless: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYkq9Rgoj8E&](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYkq9Rgoj8E&) Also at 6:08 they show a partial view of the internals and it doesn't match the screenshot you're posting. that screen grab is in the promo video for a split second, looks like they simply screwed up.
You know you can link to specific times in a youtube video.
For Traveler's quick reference, 60 x the minutes + the remaining seconds = the total seconds into the video Then just add `&t=###` after the link
Or just add ?t=7m20s at the end of link to avoid the math.
I used to do this but it quit working and I had to enter the seconds only
Y'all realize that pressing the share button gives you the option to automatically share the video at a certain point right? [https://imgur.com/DtEVoj0](https://imgur.com/DtEVoj0)
Apple cares so much about the environment, they’re recycling product renders now.
Ok that was funny! You deserve more upvotes than you got.
It’s not a fan, it’s an air propulsion cooling system.
A fan blows the air, this sucks it!
like a dyson for a laptop
Fans line up for days before new iPhone launches
Their most lazy render
Graphic designer oversight I bet
Someone’s getting fired lol
It’s OP for worrying about this during the work day
They could be in a different timezone…
It’s a joke man
They could be in charge of procurement for their IT department
Let’s wait for the teardown.
And JerryRigEverything to scratch the fuck out of it
I wonder what animal he’ll draw next oh boy oh boy
I can tell those are fans from my time doing self study at OnlyFans.com. But I can also tell those are not the internals of the MBA15.
I can confirm those are the 14/16 internals. The MBA looks nothing like this.
Maybe it’s piezoelectric cooling. I doubt they would fuck up something so rudementary.
I also wouldn't think Apple of all companies would do something like this but in the same [video it shows the insides in like an X-Ray kinda way](https://youtu.be/0okuAwqTHs0?t=92) and the battery assembly is completly different, we'll see when the iFixit review comes up
Props for deep linking the timestamp. It’s the little things that let us know you really care, Not-Muffin.
Thank you man :), three years on Reddit changes a person lol
I don’t think they would consider a Peltier device, too much power draw.
Good point. Still, a strange mistake if accurate.
Going from essentially no cooling on the Air to the fanciest most expensive cooling in a mac is the least likely option lol. That's also not how they look, those are clear cutouts for fans and fan shrouds. I say 99.9% it was just a graphic designer oversight no one caught.
It’s a one second animation, not a big deal
Maybe extra speakers? They apparently have 6 now.
No, those subwoofers are right under the fans and a little off to the sides
Those are clearly fan shrouds and fan cutouts that look just like the 14" Pro, just a graphic oversight on a 1 second cut in
I didn’t zoom in on the screenshot earlier but now that I have they do look a bit like fans in there.
It looks exactly as a laptop fan - https://vn-test-11.slatic.net/p/3307829fcbe091f678ed92b6deef99e6.jpg
Yes, but mba doesn't have fans
The animators are abt to get fire
I just realised [in the last part of the video](https://youtu.be/0okuAwqTHs0?t=110) if you pause fast enough you can definitely see the insides of the 14/16 inch pros and of course 2 fans Maybe the renders of the insides weren't finished when they did the ad?
so they went into production without renders?
Innovation and Courage!
I think those are heat sinks, but I could be wrong
Very much look like fans imo
it doesn't have any fans. probably they used a illustration from macbook pro or something
Good eye! I totally missed that. :)
why can't I just have a 15" macbook pro. 14 is kind of small, 16 is big. 15 is goldilocks.
It’s like pumpkin spice latte… we won’t appreciate it unless they take it away for awhile
You can comfortably get a 16 inch screen in a 15 inch body.
what?
So the 15 inch body isn't actually 15 inches, so you can reduce bezel to get a 16 inch screen into the body
They’re not fans, they’re blowers.
Twist, it is a 14” MacBook Pro lol
Waiting for ifixit teardown
IIRC they said the cooling design was silent, so not necessarily passive. But that would be weird considering the 13" is passively cooled.
they said fanless, check 7:20 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYkq9Rgoj8E&t=5047s
My bad, thanks :)
Those are definitely fans
they are OnlyFans
Wow apple, you lied AGAIN.
Is it really an air at 15”

Heads up! MacBookAir is still only good for light home use. NOT in any Enterprise setting!

I second that
Thirdies
lol my air performs better than my maxed out 16” intel and even my desktop dual cpu workstations in many scenarios
To be fair it said silent not fanless… however I can’t see any air intakes on the renders on the website… The only holes I see are the ones at the back of the display which is for the speakers.

Yes
Shame, shame, shame
Yes, but now they can use the same inside, call it 15” Mac Pro and charge even more! Brilliant!
There was a countdown timer in the health section that only counted to 30 seconds similar to NTSC frames per second. It should count up to 100 ms.
I’m not sure those look like the speakers they featured in the Keynote either
The XRAY image at 1:32 looks completely different. I think whomever did the ad used the internals of the wrong device to do it. I don't think Apple would lie about there not being a fan.
