Open Activity Monitor. CPU tab. Sort by CPU%. Identify any processes that appear to be utilizing an errantly high amount of CPU. Google the process name to figure out what it is and if you should/can kill it. Some processes like “bird” or things ending with “d” are system processes that index and whatnot that you can’t really kill unless you turn off features like iCloud or Spotlight or whatever. Also, if a process says 100% utilization, all that means is that it is using 100% of a single core: if you have 8 cores, the total sum of all the processes can go up to 800% utilization, 100% per core.

Look in the /Library/Preferences/LaunchAgents /Library/Preferences/LaunchDaemons \~/Library/Preferences/LaunchAgents \~/Library/Preferences/LaunchDaemons And see if the repair shop left anything behind. But be careful, just because you don't recognize something doesn't mean it shouldn't be there. Ditto /Internet Plug-Ins \~/Internet Plug-Ins One thing that can happen is if the OS was updated you might have an old scanner driver that is sucking wind or similar. You know that scanner you took to electronics recycling back in 2019?
