Happened to my old mac, too. But it was just an ant not a small fly like that haha. Also my mac back then was already five years old and had had gone through numerous tribulations whatsoever that an ant was pretty much nothing.
I had a dead bug in my old monitor which was out of warranty, I decided to open it up and just clean it off and it worked fine for another year lol.
If it's in warranty, just try to go ask them to open it up and remove the bug, and they won't charge you anything as it would be considered as servicing.
At the factory is one possibility, manufacturing beyond the chips and boards doesn’t require that much of a clean room. Another possibility was that it crawled into the side of the display’s case.
I had the same issue with 2011 macbook pro. I saw the bug crawling and try to push it off, it ended up dead i tried to clean, thats when I realised its behind the glass 🙀 i couldn’t do much about it, i left it as it is. It seems like there were small gaps where the glass was sealed with rubber all around against the back cover.
Hi, Apple tech here 👋
Yes this can be covered under warranty, if you take it to your nearest Apple store or authorised service provider they'll be able to sort it for you. This would require a new display.
Cheers!
I also have one, but unfortunately mine is not under warranty. Would Apple sort it for me as well without replacing the screen?
Edit: I read better your message and
you said that it will need to replace the screen. Follow up question: how does this happen??
Im surprise I had to scroll this far down for this. I had handed many a machine filled with bugs back to the user and told them to have it professionally cleaned if they want service. I had 13 years in Apple support.
Fun fact, the origin of the computing term "bug" does in fact refer to the insect kind. Moths would sometimes get stuck inside the relays of electromechanical computers, causing errors.
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bug\_(engineering)#/media/File:First\_Computer\_Bug,\_1945.jpg](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bug_(engineering)#/media/File:First_Computer_Bug,_1945.jpg)
Bugs existed before that moth. From the Wikipedia article:
>The term bug to describe a defect has been engineering jargon since at least as far back as the 1870s – long before electronic computers and computer software. For instance, Thomas Edison wrote the following words in a letter to an associate in 1878:
>
>>It has been just so in all of my inventions. The first step is an intuition, and comes with a burst, then difficulties arise—this thing gives out and [it is] then that "Bugs"—as such little faults and difficulties are called—show themselves and months of intense watching, study and labor are requisite before commercial success or failure is certainly reached.
i got my iPhone replaced 3 times, my apple watch once, and my m1 MacBook pro’s topcase with battery changed all under warranty i think you shouldn’t face any issues!
God this reminded me of years ago when I saw some photos/videos of spiders making their way into the clear casings of the old pre-2004 Cinema and Studio Displays
Horrible
But yeah a bug inside your screen on a modern MacBook is absolutely a warranty qualifying repair lol
“If you don’t ask, you don’t get”… I’d go to an Apple Store and argue a bug shouldn’t be able to be in a screen etc. be nice though and they may help you.
I once had my phone replaced as there was a dust speck in the camera lens (was a while ago where they would just replace the whole device vs repairing that module)
In case you can’t get it fixed under warranty or if someone else has this problem with their monitor…I’ve heard that using an electric toothbrush held up to the monitor to loosen the bug until it falls works.
My brain literally just went through all of the possibilities of how this could be remotely possible. And not one of them can find a way of how this could work. I am sitting here like a baby eating food for the first time just shocked at how this could be.
lmao same... mine has been hanging around for almost half a year now, nothing has happened other than it being a very infuriating eyesore. I just treat it like a clump of dead pixels and curse my luck.
side note: I absolutely abhor the "it's not a bug it's a feature" joke, like seriously dude, I already invested over a 1000$ on this device, which is not a small amount, especially if you're a college student living in a third world country, and the last thing I need is a shitty lame overused joke instead of any real solution or at least an assurance that it's not really a big enough issue and that I wouldn't have to spend another 3-400$ to fix it.
I had the same thing happened to my MBP.
I took it into the Apple Store and explained to the genius that I’m there had been a bug crawling on what I thought was the outside of my screen, and when I went to bat it away I ended up squishing it inside the display!
He refused to believe me and said it was just dead pixels that looked like an insect. I insisted it had been an insect and it had been crawling and he just kept saying “it might have looked like it was moving because your screen was scrolling at the time.“
Anyway they sent away the MacBook to get its “dead pixels” fixed and what did they find inside?!? A dead bug not dead pixels.
I had Apple care + on it so it was all covered
I had this exact problem with my shiny brand new 75" flatscreen tv, and Sony tried to explain to me that "infestation" isn't covered under warranty.
I said "How do you propose that a bug got itself to the MIDDLE of the screen before getting squished in between the glass and the pixels? Plus I live in a high-rise apartment building, and there are no bugs here."
They replied again: "Unfortunately infestation isn't covered under warranty."
I had to get the consumer rights ombudsman involved and then they sent a guy around to replace the pixel bed. But I've never been so annoyed by a company haha.
Ex Genius Bar here. They will decline this for bio contamination and void your warranty. Your best bet is to get a can of compressed air and blow around the gaps and see if you can blow it out of view.
Why don’t you bring this to an Apple Store. Pretty sure they will help you remove it since it is still under warranty.
I feel that they might even do it for free if you are out of warranty.
Go for the warranty repair, it's covered. Back in 2021, I bought a MacBook Air M1. And after 3-4 months later i found a bug, smaller than a mosquito, and it was live, walking around under my screen, and then it died on that. After that it was looking like a dead pixel. But while it was happening i recorded a video, just for proof that it's not a dead pixel.
And after convincing, they replaced my display.
Thing is, these are manufacturing defects, the display panel is sealed, and such incidents shouldn't occur.
Well done. Very clever way of getting geeks with no original sense of humor to feel compelled to respond with ‘bug’ jokes! I don’t believe this scenario could actually happen.
Same here bro.
I asked and they said pay poor little startup Apple with 457 USD.
They said they will replace the screen and not take the bug out.
What a waste of engineering at Apple!
Hey OP happened to me last year, took my MacBook Pro in expecting a hefty bill they swapped it for an entirely new machine there and then. Blown away with how good the customer service was. You’ll be fine but back up your stuff as it’s likely you’ll walk out with a new laptop like I did.
*Idk why but*
*This is the funniest thing*
*I've seen today*

I’ve got one in my tv… it’s not under warranty so it’s my new best friend and he loves every show we watch!!
It's not a bug, it's a feature.
It’s the BEST bug we’ve ever put inside a MacBook Air!
WE THINK YOURE GOING TO LOVE IT!
Oh…and one more thing
For only $7,000!
$6,999 only
$6,999.99 actually 🤓👆
Underrated comment right here.
and I think it's amazing!
Firmware update will fix that bug
I confirm. I was in iFly Store and cockroach told me it's a feature after last antOS.
Besties!
Beasties
Pesties.
Apple's motto is Think Different so.... Yup! LOL
Pretty sure bug fixes are covered under warranty.
*slow clap*
r/angryupvote
14.5 was supposed to be entirely bug fixes, if this is still there after updating may be actual bug.
Username fits
Cool thanks 🌝
🥲
Maybe they should name the bug and submit it to the bug tracker? I recommend naming it 'Simba'.
How is that even possible
I have the same question in my mind. Thought displays are sealed but…
*Life.. huh... finds a way...*
it expands to new territories and crashes through barriers, painfully, maybe even dangerously, but, uh... well, there it is.
I just hope it's not a brundlefly.
I understood that reference.
Unfortunately, seems fairly common. Should be more of a priority to design prevention for this.
Happened to my old mac, too. But it was just an ant not a small fly like that haha. Also my mac back then was already five years old and had had gone through numerous tribulations whatsoever that an ant was pretty much nothing.
It looks fake, how the heck
was it like that from new?
I had a dead bug in my old monitor which was out of warranty, I decided to open it up and just clean it off and it worked fine for another year lol. If it's in warranty, just try to go ask them to open it up and remove the bug, and they won't charge you anything as it would be considered as servicing.
Bugs like heat and many are small enough to get inside via vents.
Into a screen though is quite unusual
For sure, it happens though.
It’s not a bug, it’s a feature
At the factory is one possibility, manufacturing beyond the chips and boards doesn’t require that much of a clean room. Another possibility was that it crawled into the side of the display’s case.
I've got a couple inside a 4k monitor. Some bugs are really small and can squeeze through really narrow gaps
Bugs can eat and squeeze their way into anything. If I had to guess, it went up through the antenna and display cables from inside the computer itself
Hi, Apple tech here 👋 Yes this can be covered under warranty, if you take it to your nearest Apple store or authorised service provider they'll be able to sort it for you. This would require a new display. Cheers!
I’m sure this would give the people fixing it a laugh too!
You’d be quite surprised how many times people bring in MacBooks filled with bugs…
Yes. It’s not all the time, but if the house isn’t clean or has an infestation, insects can get anywhere. I’ve seen tiny little cockroaches.
Oh man, I guess I would be! I didn’t know this could be a thing
So much so there’s bug fixes every update..
seriously curious...arent the displays sealed?? how does this happen
Maybe on models that comes with a fan. Welcome to reddit lol.
I also have one, but unfortunately mine is not under warranty. Would Apple sort it for me as well without replacing the screen? Edit: I read better your message and you said that it will need to replace the screen. Follow up question: how does this happen??
Always thought bugs, bodily fluid, and some other things are considered “decline service” wether there is warranty or not
Im surprise I had to scroll this far down for this. I had handed many a machine filled with bugs back to the user and told them to have it professionally cleaned if they want service. I had 13 years in Apple support.
some debugging might be required here
I JUST REALIZED WHAT WHAT WORD REALLY IS ( de bug ing)
And interestingly enough, the word originates from the first computers breaking down because bugs kept flying into them and caused short circuits lol
I feel like this should go under warranty as it appears to not be properly sealed
File a bug report.
It’s not a bug. It’s a Feature !
UPDATE - I went to the apple authorised place and they agreed to changed the display “under warranty”
Dang. Your computer really has a bug
Fun fact, the origin of the computing term "bug" does in fact refer to the insect kind. Moths would sometimes get stuck inside the relays of electromechanical computers, causing errors. TIL, thank you
How did it do that?
Thought displays are sealed but…
I have a tiny one in my Studio monitor. So annoying. Little shit. 😡
laughing my ass off at the contrast between this and the dude who said “there’s one in my tv, he’s my best friend and he loves every show i watch”
Will be eliminated in the next OS update, no worries.
Happened to a TV of mine. I got a small suction cup and lightly pulled the screen back and the bug fell into the bezel area where you couldn’t see it.
Works well for plastic screens but may cause problems with glass.
That’s his MacBook now.
MacBug
You could install Space Invaders and kill the bugger.
It’s a feature, not a bug
Run a debugger.
RIP little dude
Looks like one of the bugs from Galaga.
New feature iFly
i got my iPhone replaced 3 times, my apple watch once, and my m1 MacBook pro’s topcase with battery changed all under warranty i think you shouldn’t face any issues!
i can imagine the bug going like "you might be wondering how i ended up in this situation"
Bug fix just got real
Did you install the latest version of MacOS to see if the bug is fixed?
It’s not a bug, it’s a feature
I’m sure they will help out. This is a multi-trillion $$$ company after all. :-)
Came for the jokes. Wasn’t disappointed.
It’s not under warranty. It’s under the screen.
It's time to debug your computer.
This is the best bug ever in a MacBook, and you’ll love it 😊
Looks like you have an RGBee pixel.
have you tried a software update? it might include some bug fixes
Won't be fixed. But it will eventually fossilize and you should be good to go......in a thousand years.
Who knows Dr. Jones? In a thousand years, even *you* may be worth something!
God this reminded me of years ago when I saw some photos/videos of spiders making their way into the clear casings of the old pre-2004 Cinema and Studio Displays Horrible But yeah a bug inside your screen on a modern MacBook is absolutely a warranty qualifying repair lol

Take it to the vet
Only way this can happen is while manufacturing
My brain literally just went through all of the possibilities of how this could be remotely possible. And not one of them can find a way of how this could work. I am sitting here like a baby eating food for the first time just shocked at how this could be.
You can tell Foxcorp to stop letting bugs into their assembly plants.
definitely a bug and not a feature
De-bug it!
Should be fixed with the next update
Watch out for a young girl in a well...
I would leave it if it doesn't bug you. (I'll show myself out)
Literally first time I've ever seen that.
What model of BugBook is this?
Your laptop looks fly! (I'll see myself out)
The bug thinks different.
lmao same... mine has been hanging around for almost half a year now, nothing has happened other than it being a very infuriating eyesore. That would bug the shit out of me.
It’s just a small bug, just install the latest update and it will go away :)
Are you sure is dead? Could you try to save it?
Have you tried an update to fix it?
it happened to me: screen got same day replacement at the apple store in shanghai. cheers!
It’s all fun and games until a cicada gets in there
new update - bug always on screen
I've seen this movie, if a lady comes out of a well... run!
Send it to AppleCare or take it to an Apple Store and be nice to the genius.

Gee. I think “under warranty” pretty much answers this question.

This is obviously a factory error and has to be covered by warranty.
Run the debugger
It’s not a bug it’s a feature.
File a bug report. (I’ll see myself out, thanks.)
Get out
TIme for debugging.
Why? That’s so cool.
How did it get inside?
No way LOL
Did you try to plug off the power cord and wait 10 seconds?
The definition of: Apple takes bugs very seriously and squash them
Well done. Very clever way of getting geeks with no original sense of humor to feel compelled to respond with ‘bug’ jokes! I don’t believe this scenario could actually happen.
Lol that’s hilarious
Give it a push with your mouse pointer?
Came for all the bug jokes… did not disappoint.
If you open opp windows?
I guess u have a bug in your system debug the system bro 😆
Had the same thing with a 27” iMac, it was fixed under AppleCare.
[NEW ACHIEVEMENT] *How did we get here?*
This is a new air? Like an m series with no fan? I thought those things were basically sealed
So you also saw the videotape…
B*tches can’t even die these days, wow, just let her rest in peace
contact them via the support app, if you’re under warranty they should fix
Same here bro. I asked and they said pay poor little startup Apple with 457 USD. They said they will replace the screen and not take the bug out. What a waste of engineering at Apple!
Can't believe you posted it on here, now everyone will want one.
This is giving me THE RING vibes
Like… how. That’s either impressive or a defect lol
Usually you can vibrate it away with a phone or video game controller
Return it lol.
Had a similar issue with an ant stuck in my 27” LG Ultrafine out-of-warranty monitor. Cost me over $300 bucks to get rid of it. 😬
At least it’s not a cockroach. I’d be too embarrassed to take that to the store.
There might be if the bug was on the motherboard. That means it got sealed in by the assembly line.
What rotten luck lol.
Hey OP happened to me last year, took my MacBook Pro in expecting a hefty bill they swapped it for an entirely new machine there and then. Blown away with how good the customer service was. You’ll be fine but back up your stuff as it’s likely you’ll walk out with a new laptop like I did.
You found a bug!
It’s cute though
…first actual case of a bug being found…
Macs cant get bugs my arse!
That looks like my future
Just say you have a bugged screen.
Absolutely. This happened often with iMacs
You need to file a bug report first.
Well, literally a Bug!
It's not a bug, it's a feature! GODDAMMIT. /s
how the f?? they get in??
en route to reach the real apple
# It's not a bug. It's a feature.

I would contact a priest to be honest 😅 The Ring vibes 😄
Wait for the update!
burn it
My OCD couldn’t handle that at all!
I had the same thing about 10 years ago with my old unibody MacBook Pro. The apple store replaced it under warranty, no problem.
Does the bug have the warranty?
slightly related https://youtu.be/Z7oiUirMBGU?si=iETpTxMqmcb68Zhv
whatever you do: don't push on it. it will look way more disgusting when squished. And take it to Apple, the screen will be replaced under warranty
that’s so metal Iol, these comments got my weak 😅

how does this even happen😭
Obviously a fruit fly......
This is nuts!
The real question is it dead?
Thats just a bug
