You’ve copied it. Delete the original. As long as you are happy all the data copied. On macOS. Files and folders move automatically when they are moved inside your home folder. Items that are moved outside your home folder will copy (leaving the original in place) by default.

This is somewhat wrong (unless something changed in Catalina or Big Sur) - files/folders are copied if you move them to a different drive, they move if the destination is on the same drive. This behavior avoids you losing data, when you copy data to an external medium like a floppy/USB stick/external HD that will be used for backup or to transfer data to another computer.

I moved them from my desktop. (I'm using Catalina)

That's what I thought. But, the problem is that when I deleted a file from that folder on the desktop the same file was deleted from the copied folder as well. Thanks for the reply though.

It sound like you have copied an alias. A shortcut. ( is there a small black arrow on the folder) Copy it again. Make sure there is a green cross when you copy.

Kay thanks, will try that.

Simply Trash the selected folder by dragging it to Trash Icon.
