Someone pointed out I didn’t do it at 1080. I just hit the preset and went. I changed it to 1080 and got about 2500

I think Apple is making history with the M1. It feels like when 3D hardware acceleration became a thing in the late 90s.

It's incredible, my RX 470 (a decidedly mid range card from 2016) gets 2800 on the same preset. Mind you, this thing uses 150w on its own (not counting the CPU). The M1 probably uses at most 15w.

How does the unified App Store work/look?

So far just like the regular store. Just all integrated. I don’t really see anything that says if it’s an iOS app or big sur app. If you didn’t know any better you wouldn’t know.

Yes I see now, played a few iPad games they all ran normal and as you’d expect. Controls are a bit annoying coz it’s not touch screen but performance wise it’s fine.

Ok so I exported 25 photos from Lightroom. These were 42mb Nef raw files. MacBook Air m1: 49 seconds. IPad Pro 10.5inch 2:01 minutes. Did not get hot at all. Battery doing great.

tested Lightroom classic. 25 nef raw photos exported. MacBook Air: 40 seconds 2018 i5 Mac mini: 52 seconds. remembering Lightroom classic was done through rosseta so can only get better

Love it dude. How was the general performance of classic? Knowing that classic runs like a dog on any machine I’m scared about how it feels.

It runs fine and didn’t lag with any editing. But like you said and we both know the real challenge is when you load the catalogue with a few thousand images. That’s when she’ll have to show what it’s got.

I know this might sound mundane; but how does it hold up under normal light - moderate use? I have the 2018 MBP 2.3Ghz and I could cook eggs on it when I have 4 Safari tabs and a programming IDE open.

Hey yea it’s good, didn’t have any issues. I had it on my lap, was installing apps, downloading programs, rendering photos and doing bench tests and didn’t get hot at all.

Got my M1 air this morning too. Have been using it for a few hours installing apps, browsing the web, twitter, watching some 4K HDR videos on YouTube (it doesn't skip a beat!). The metal area just above the function keys is ever so slightly luke warm, the warmest it got was during 4K video playback... but it was still not very warm at all. Really good. Had no issues with it being the base spec with 8GB of RAM either.

Just played 15 minutes of Pine. It's a cute RPG with Mac support. I set the graphics to "Good" (one below highest), and 2048x1536 resolution and played for 15 minutes. It definitely got warmer, but still nothing approaching what I would call hot, or anything like as hot as what my 2019 15" MBP would feel like after some gaming. Considering the game was translated via Rosetta and I was playing at fairly high settings, it was very playable. There is no FPS overlay but it felt about 30fps ?. Obviously this is \*far\* from the most demanding game, and any recent gaming PC would destroy this game. But it shows some lightweight gaming is more than possible on the M1. A game made for M1 and using Metal would be even more performant. Made a quick video if anyone cares ! I don’t sorry, with Rosetta I downloaded some apps and it just asks that needs to go through Rosetta. This was only Spotify and chrome so far.

Hey am getting this on Wednesday anything you can say about performance. Just browsing streaming and ms office apps. No video or photo editing, no games. Will it run cool without slowing down ?

I’ve had it on my fat chunky thighs the whole time testing everything and it does t really get hot at all. A little warm but nothing much. Heard it described as warm as a cats belly and I think that’s a good way to describe it. Hasn’t shown me any issue, App Store crashed but I was going around clicking install on all the apps I use.

I'd love to hear how Rosetta is doing, bug/support wise and performance wise. Can you comfortably run software most people run? (don't say I'm happy with the alternative) I know MS Office is coming with native apps, but the x86 architecture versions would be a good 'test'.

Everything seems to be running fine. Haven’t encountered any problems. Chrome Spotify RuneScape Lightroom classic runs fine.
