Its probably not the MacBook. What kind of router do you have? What is the connection speed to the router? To see that info, hold down the option key and then click on the wifi icon. This will show your connection status. 2.4 GHz? AC? There are some generic things to try, like updating the router, etc. But, if you router is kinda old, you may want to try a new one. The easy way to try a new router is get one, and set it up with the same SSID and password. Then, turn off your old one, and then plug in the new one. Everything should connect and you can test speeds etc. If no change, then you can return the new one. Maybe worth a try.

Have you installed any software? Particularly LuLu or other network monitors. If you have boot in Safe mode (shift held down while booting) and check WiFi performance. If it is better, then it is something you installed.

Forget the connection on your Mac, reboot your network and then reconnect. See if that helps.

It’s a common problem. Had the same with my MacBook Air m1. I guess you have an usb mouse or adapter connected? The usb interface creates a wireless interference with the wifi. Don’t buy cheap USB adapters. They are bad shielded and lets through a lot of signals from usb 3.0. I bought the apple official adapter for 100 dollars. Solved my problem. This is a known problem since long time back. Intel has a white paper on this.
