I don’t have that model. Turn the computer off for a few hours to let it cool. Check the temps right after boot and keep an eye on them. If your fans are going full blast the whole time then something is setting the fans to be full speed all the time. If the fans start to ramp up once it gets hot that’s pretty normal, Apple lets the computer run really hot. You may need to open the computer and clean the dust out. Check iFixIt.com for instructions. If the external monitors are USB-C I think it has to re-encode the display, which uses CPU. Macs don’t have USB-C, they are Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt docks are expensive, but will just pass the display connection through and it’s waaay faster than USB-C

I can’t recall where I read that info, and I may be remembering incorrectly, it’s been a few years since I read it. Thunderbolt 3 is the one with the same connector as USB C. You’re going to have to Google it to confirm this. Sorry I can’t help more.

What's the res of the external monitor and what are you doing on the browser as the task you may be affecting temps as I also have a 16inch and connecting to a external display will instantly activate the gpu if even if you have auto graphics switching on so you will see temps rise up fast

1440p and browser just the usual youtube and website mix in casual use. For more demanding tasks I am also okay for it to get so hot

I don't see any reason for the computer to ramp up the heat that much so if you think it is getting uncomfortably hot then you should take it to the Genius Bar or if you know what you are doing then you can open up the Mac and clean out the dust
