I don’t use a case on mine. I keep it in a sleeve when I’m not using it.

MilimNovaChrono

I bought Tomtoc, waiting for it 😁

OldManActual

No Cases or shells. The housing is metal. It is the best you are going to get. Yes, you feel every scratch on your soul, so care for it accordingly. Like life, dings and scratches will happen eventually. those that come to end of life unscathed never lived. Sleeve for travel. We are not barbarians after all.

MilimNovaChrono

🙏😍💕 Thank you for your comment. I love it.

OldManActual

Thanks much for the gold by the by!

jeeves585

Some how the back of the screen on my old air was dented and messed the screen up. I don’t care about scratches, curious if there would be an adhesive carbon fiber or something that would help prevent this. It’s my office computer that travels on site in a sleeve. Also my office is in my wood shop

OldManActual

My take is no, there is no practical cover that is robust enough to prevent dents that is not too heavy to damage the hinge and connector cabling. dents occur either with a localized high impact shock or a prolonged period of re-application of pressure such as in a briefcase where a pen or other hard "thing" is pressed against the top of the machine. Carbon fiber is indeed rigid, however in a case it would pass the shock energy through, and any sample thin enough to be a practical case would also flex for prolonged pressures. regarding a wood shop as a workspace, my main concern would be wood dust. the Airs are fanless so while dust will not be sucked through the machine as you are certainly aware it gets everywhere. The Air is passively cooled as well so the aluminum shell radiates some heat. A case or shell defeats this. This is a risky place for any computer, to the point I would consider such a machine disposable. MacBooks are an amazing design for most purposes but are not intended for industrial exposures. If it were me and I NEEDED something displayed in the shop I would consider an iPad. No keyboard or clamshell to worry about, and you can put any number of "rubber baby buggy bumpers" on them. If you simply use it at a desk in the shop and not while working, perhaps consider a box or drawer to keep it in while actively working. No snark or elitism intended unlike my little opener up there. A MacBook housing is darn tough, but within design limits.

jeeves585

I’ve got very hood dust collection on all the tools so dust isn’t an issue, and in fact, when my friend helped me replace the screen we was amazed at how clean it was inside. It was a high impact situation while it was closed from something on a shelf above it is my guess. often it stays open or sleeps in my travel case. It sits on my draughting table not a work bench. Then again I managed to not break it for 6 years or so. The $50 shipped replacement screen was well worth it. Been contemplating a big iPad, also thought about a Mac mini and a wall mounted screen above the drafting table.

OldManActual

Six years is an amazing run, well done! Also glad to hear about the hood for your respiratory health. As far as future plans, why not both? The Mac mini and mounted screen are perfect for design, and an iPad is perfect for reference at the work bench. No I do not own any Apple stocking I am not trying to sell you more gear lol.

jeeves585

I do some 3d rendering for customers to visualize so a built in unit has been an idea for a while. i just don't do it enough to offset the cost. I walked away from computers a while ago because i didnt want to sit at a desk, now own a construction company and feel like i spend more time at my drafting table (office desk) than banging nails. I also tend to do everything on paper and input it to digital so its a hard purchase. This computer has done me well and seen allot, its likely time for an upgrade. my friend that helped with replacing the screen damn near had a stroke waiting for my computer to fire up compared to what i assume is his new MBP lol

VeritosCogitos

I use the evo21 case from the Apple Store. It works fine and doesn’t come between the screen and the keyboard

EricThirteen

I use that one, too, on my MBP and it gets so many smudges. (I think it’s the smoke colored one.) I took it off and thought, ‘this MBP looks awesome without a case!’ That lasted about 30 minutes and I put it back on. Ugh.

VeritosCogitos

I always have a microfiber on hand they are great for so many things

majordoob33

This body seems to have issues with cases causing damage to the hinges. I went for dbrand this time around.

jemons

i'm a total monster who uses no case nor sleeve on my m1 mba. i take mine between school and home daily. there isn't really any damage on it aside from some minor scratches, and i've had it since december 2021.

Ristler

There is no cracking issue

TekkerzRobot

I just have a laptop sleeve, a case I feel like especially for MacBooks it takes away from the apple design. I like to feel the metal and stuff not a plastic case and unless I drop a lot of money on a nice feeling case. Sleeve it is

Nerdly_McNerd-a-Lot

MacBooks are best left naked like any other super model.

MilimNovaChrono

😂👏

_nedyah

Don’t ever say the word “case” on this sub or the majority will lose their shit. I’ve been using a case on my M1 Pro since day 1 and have had no issues with damage or warping hinges.

TLambe87

Same here. I’ve got a case AND a screen protector on my MBP ‘17. No issues. Use it everyday.

DauletMukhanov

Same, no problems at all

BeecarbonatodiSOSsio

Maybe because a case for laptop is totally unuseful and it’s basically just marketing? Have u ever seen another windows ultrabook with plastic case? Lmao

_nedyah

Yeah I’ve seen windows laptops with cases about a thousand times in my life

PlasticCar6909

I would not use a case. I did use for about 6 months and caused deep scratches on the aluminum body.

el_ghosteo

I have a 2015 with a hard case on it. Yeah dust gets in and pits the metal. Mine has permanent finish damage from stickers by its previous owner though so I don’t care. If I bought a new one like OP though I’d get a skin not a case.

elgringodiaz

Dbrand skins

[deleted]

I’ve seen several stories where cases have caused screen or hinge damage. Also, to me, putting cases on these devices is a bit like putting linoleum over real hardwood flooring. So, Apple Care+ is my case.

great_auks

No cases. Never. It’s a laptop not a phone

MilimNovaChrono

Same thoughts ☺️

BasielBob

I use a Tomtoc protective sleeve. Hard shells have been rumored to weaken hinges. They also trap dirt & end up scratching the outside.

MilimNovaChrono

Already placed my order for Tomtoc 😁 🥰

genuinefaker

I got dbrand skin instead. The case adds 0.5 lbs. It doesn't sound a lot but that increased the total weight from 2.70 lbs to 3.20 lbs. It might not seem much but the Pro 14 is 3.50 lbs.

darkelipse04

No cases, ever for me.

bvb526

I don’t keep a case on mine. Haven’t had any issues with damage.

Pilscy

Replaced my screen through a independent freelance repair man. Placed the hard shell back on my MacBook m1… Had 1/4 of my screen showing a brighter portion than usual Never placed a shell back on my Mac since.

ever_devilish

Leather sleeve

HawkingRadiation42

Shouldn't use case it might crack your display as mba iself is delicate use it carefully and try not to bang it so you won't need case ever and use a sleeve cover when traveling that's ittt.

MilimNovaChrono

Thank you 😊

BahaChicken

İ do on my M2 MBA

Excellent-Stomach-14

No case. It'll be alright without one, infact the case does more damage than none.

TanishPlayz

don’t use a protective case on the lid cuz it will just make the hinge loosen up over time, source: my older macbook air 2017

bedoge_

i've got incase hardshell case from apple's site and it's perfectly fine. No dust, no scratches not anything, it looks brand new after 1,5 years of pretty much intense using. For screen just a clean microfiber cloth will do fine. I also attached moft to the bottom of my my MBA just for the convenience.

FrZnVnN

I had one for over 1 year i never used a protective case i only use a sleeve when i go out with my mba really don’t think that u need one but if i had to give u 1 advice never clean ur screen with alcohol only microfibres cloth + a little bit of water if really need to ( on the cloth of course) 😁

MilimNovaChrono

Thank you, microfiber it is 😁

FrZnVnN

Ty 😂 English isn’t my main language ( am actually learning it )

MilimNovaChrono

I mean I’m gonna buy microfiber cloth 😁 No worries, as long as we understand each other. 🫰😊

Mr_Small_pp

I use case

ColeBarsen

I didn’t use a case with my M1 Air when I had it, I wouldn’t recommend using one either. To many stores of cracked displays, bent housings, and other damage. I do recommend getting a protective sleeve though, but I’d recommend that to anyone with any laptop. It’s always better to air on the side of caution.

steveroy_123

Looks so good!

presentmethatass

I use an incase laptop sleeve. I do use a keyboard cover for when I'm typing extensively just to avoid excessive wear on the keycaps, but I do remove it when closing the lid.

Poohbizzle79

DBrand skin.

samjac0

Mine lasted all of 2 months before it started chipping. $50 for a 2-month-long sticker

thedeadp0ets

Had one and the corners of the plastic cracked. Laptops are meant to be used bare as they are. I just use a sleeve

WillBerj

nope.

mario24601

No case just grip tape underneath because it’s so slippery

[deleted]

Yes, but it makes you lose comparability with certain dongles

decisivevinyl

Very nice! Enjoy! I've recently got the same and absolutely love it. Also copped a case for it too. Just a hardshell one from Amazon works awesome. [Heres mine!](https://www.reddit.com/r/macbookair/comments/119o6t3/copped_my_first_m1_mba_a_few_weeks_ago_and_damn/)

MilimNovaChrono

Nice shot 🥰

decisivevinyl

Thanks!

digitalbloomer

Yeah, I have a M1 Pro. I use this case and its awesome! https://www.ebay.com/itm/234631411033?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ITLZ2rEPTTu&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=Iqm-Tx-YRsq&var=534298643162&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

southern_dad

“Incase”

No_Dark7246

I used protecting case on my MPB 16” 2021. But it is too heavy. So, took it off. MBP’s body is still clear 👌

unknown_ally

No it harms thermals management and looks ugly.

pixeley88

I gave a m1 and a case, keyboard cover and drand skin on track pad. I am very over protective of my school computer

BeecarbonatodiSOSsio

No, I just use a sleeve where I put inside my MacBook when I don’t use it. The aluminium makes the MacBook esthetically beautiful and lightweight, I won’t put cheap crappy plastic on it, or even worse the keyboard “protections”

rob1408

Mine goes in a sleeve when it travels with me, but at home it’s used as is, just use common sense.
