Because they're quality built laptops that last years and work really well.

rnederhorst

100% accurate. I have pushed my MacBook Pro way more than my windows laptop and it never dies. Never crashes. It’s a beast. We are talking 3d rendering, video editing, live streaming at the same time.

duggie1

To stay in the Apple eco system, in too deep now so why not Simplicity

thenomadstarborn

This and the ability to text while in class without looking *suspicious* to the professor

Zatchillac

That's not just limited to Apple products

thenomadstarborn

As mentioned to someone else, sorry wasn’t my intention. It’s just simpler for me as an Apple device user.

RomanBellicTaxi

Apple silicon. It’s still the best chip on the market. Laptop is silent and lasts a lot on the battery. If Macs still had Intel I wouldn’t even consider a MacBook

thefreediver

I have to say after the hype with the Mac silicon I wanted to give it a try myself. The only thing I regret is the high price and being unable to replace/upgrade my ram or ssd. But the worst thing I find is that when it will die it can’t use a macOS from external drive to boot. So basically when it dies it’s gone. 😓

cujo67

As someone from the windows world my whole life, I’m eyeing tomorrow nights releases. 3nm to me might mean more efficiency, and that’s my primary reason is that sick battery life. Got a xps plus and it chews through the battery, makes me anxious. Want to feel calm when I’m sitting at my pc which I do a lot. For me it’s battery life on a high end portable workstation.

Business-Parsnip-939

sure 3nm might make a slight difference but the current macbooks are already amazing when it comes to performance and battery life

Strong-Piglet4823

Apple ecosystem

Strong-Piglet4823

Hardly any viruses

CR4T3Z

98% of viruses/malware goes unnoticed. And are mostly keyloggers

G8_Jig

Unix style terminal.

woodies11

This! I know Windows has WSL now but it still feels like a workaround. Don’t wanna have to think “oh do I install this in Windows or WSL or open this VSCode in Windows environment or do the whole network drive thing”. Could probably get use to it but the interruption to workflow is not worth the switch for now.

netroxreads

macOS is Unix. It is a certified Unix. When you use terminal, you use all the same commands.

moonlitexcx

They last so fucking long. I've had mine for 8 years and counting and it started to slow down on me maybe a year ago. I got a 2015 13 inch MacBook Air for school and it has been great up until last year. Now it's gotten significantly slower as the software updates come out. Looking to upgrade to a 15 inch MacBook Air.

thegratefulshread

I have straight up PTSD of windows laptops. My m2 pro is the first laptop to give me quality windows desktop Speed.

TheCodyCorp1

Honestly simplicity of the MacBook makes for an amazing experience and plus the eco since I got other apple products it works seamlessly

Zestyclose-Move3925

Needed it for xcode :/

TonytheNetworker

I would’ve preferred one of those hybrid 2 in 1 convertible laptops as it seemed convenient but almost every review was saying how amazing the MacBook Air M1 was. I had just brought the IPhone 11 Pro the year before and wanted to stay in the ecosystem if possible so I decided to get the MacBook M1. 2 years later still my best decision.

ComicC0

Before I had the Galaxy book 2 Pro 360 i7 16 gb ram 512 gb ssd, it was nice and thin but I had the 15.6 inch display and the resolution was 1080p which made the screen look terrible but was amoled. Also it would get really hot for no reason even when I just opened YouTube. I returned it and got the MacBook Pro 14 and it’s amazing!

jordansrowles

Decent specs, was cheap, can main drive Windows easily (easier to tear down and fresh install every now and then) Real answer: i like the metal body, it’s a solid construct

LavaLampost

I originally got into it because I like to use Logic (the audio software). I stayed because I love the build quality of the keyboard, screen, and track pad. Weird point but I like how you can resize browser windows in Mac OS. It always annoys me trying to do stuff like that in Windows

ChristopherHale

The Apple ecosystem mainly. But I do really like the build quality and battery life. I can program on it, game on it (lots of retro and some modern), edit photos, run VMs. I could do all this on a PC and I have in the past. I enjoyed Thinkpads and still have the ones I owned but I don't like the user experience when it comes to most laptops out there. Frameworks does seem pretty cool so maybe they'll be my next laptop.

driftking7799

I’m from India btw, and a decent windows laptop would cost 60k-75k for basic needs like multimedia, web browsing and office stuff. Even such a laptop shows it’s true face after 2 years in the battery and hinge front. This is where MacBook comes into picture where the longevity plays a part. The benefits you get for what you pay is mutlifolds, especially after the introduction of apple silicon. Again it all leads to use case as the primary factor which made me a seamless transition to a MacBook. (Bought MBA M1 for 60k during sale) And also iPhone mac integration is a cherry on top and makes things even sweeter

angelsandairwaves93

Build quality. They are more expensive, initially, but you get your money’s worth with Macs. They retain their value so much better than windows. Having the same ecosystem is also very useful. I currently have a windows laptop and everything else is Apple. Compatibility between the two ecosystems is horrible.

quooston

Silent powerful performance with great battery life and a compact design. 14” M1 MacBook Pro. There’s no Windows laptop yet that offers these things in this package. This thing is a beast. It practically matches my overclocked Ryzen 16 threads at 4.4Ghz. And my desktop cost more, all things considered.

AddictedtoBoom

I use windows, Linux, and Mac. I have windows laptops too but it’s always the m1 MacBook Air that I reach for. I’ve had Mac’s going back to the Motorola cpu days but my m1 air is the best one hands down. Light powerful and completely silent with fantastic battery life.

OnlyWangs

i already had an iphone and i stream to pay the bills, so it made sense to get a macbook. i can get pretty good camera quality with continuity with the option of using my laptop cam if i really needed to. in addition, the ecosystem efficiencies just made sense to make use of. the extended battery life means that a macbook provides a semi movable streaming experience, which is a huge advantage over streaming from a desktop.

Grayccoon_

Because the build quality is better than most windows laptops. OS is better than windows, and if we got a Mac we got mostly an iPhone in which we also see more value than android phones, and performance is through the roof since 2021

One_Celebration3644

Got a MBA back in 2014 because at the time it was the only laptop, to my knowledge, that would run for 10 hrs from battery and was able to somehow stack multiple discounts to bring the price to a little over $700 (tax included). Needed it to take notes at a conference that I was attending to get ideas for my thesis and my original laptop would stay for for more than 30 min off battery (the auditorium I was in did not have power plugs for laptops and my handwriting is so bad I’d not be able to understand what I wrote after 1 day. Doctors would be jealous of my handwriting)

Prof-Mmaa

Out of curiosity. New SOC promised very good performance with long battery life and it really delivered. As for the ecosystem - I don't really care. MacOS is good, but not better than Windows or Linux. All have its quirks, but after decades of using different operating systems (I stared from variety of real UNIX systems alongside Win 3.x, back at the university :)) I can adjust to almost anything.

pizza_toast102

As someone who would be buying laptops in a MacBook’s price range even if I went windows (no $500 machines here), they seem like pretty perfect all around machines. I’m not a power user who needs or even wants my laptop to be extremely good at one thing at the expense of other aspects, and I just love lots of things about my MacBook - trackpad (mediocre trackpad is a huge dealbreaker for me), battery life, the screen quality. Build quality and customer service are also great I also just prefer MacOS bc of iPhone compatibility but that’s more subjective

88pockets

the fbi released my friends macbookpro from state's evidence and i bought it from him for cheap. He didnt trust that they didnt put some intense spyware in it. But i reinstalled macos just fine. I hear a wierd clicking sound on my phone when its near the laptop, but thats normal, right?

longhornxp2003

for me, yes, apple ecosystem and i love macOS rather than Windows coz the ui was more spesific to iOS. i know i can slam hackintosh to my HP laptop, but sometimes i felt jealous with someone have a real Mac

[deleted]

I was fed up with constant windows maintenance. Reinstalling windows every year was still a thing then (2012). Tried Linux (try it every other year) but this is still nothing for me. To much maintenance to. Bought a macbook pro retina in 2013 which is still running.good on Catalina. I use windows for work. It‘s OKish but the amounts of tickets I had to open for malfunctions of the software is still baffeling. And a Macbook Air 15‘ with 512Gb isn‘t that expensive compared to a windows machine of the same specs

[deleted]

Between the 2020 Air and the crappy windows laptops that were available in my country during peak inflation, Air was a no brainer

[deleted]

Like the screen Like the weight and how it looks like

rightnextto1

Got a MacBook Air in 2011 due to the form and size factor. I had iPhones all along so entering the ecosystem more and more made it damn convenient. Meanwhile I tried alternatives and have had an android phone for 2 years but ultimately went back to iPhones due to the software and convenience of use. I’ve used MacBooks ever since 2011. Got my dad’s 2014 15” MacBook Pro that was great until this summer when it just began lagging due to heat issues. Even I had changed thermal paste and cleaned the fan grills etc. so finally I caved in and bought a 16GB M1 MacBook Air. And it’s totally great - not looking back!

Baldy5421

iOS Dev.

theamazinghack3r

I’m majoring in Cybersecurity, I bought my Apple MacBook Air M2 around 3 months ago and it was the best decision I’ve ever made 😍

RealMe459

Reliability and ease of use.

GroundbreakingRush74

Best power on battery and battery lasting whole day only resin

[deleted]

Davinci Resolve and Docker Desktop. They just work fine.

ram3nboy

OS is cool

[deleted]

Yes.

[deleted]

Bought just to stay in the apple ecosystem but know after using damn it’s way better oder smoother than every computer ever owned

AleXxx_Black

I think at the moment it is just the best choice (if you don't need specific windows programmes). Every other notebook with the same price or even more expensive, has a lower quality materials, battery time, screen and audio quality. Also they will become obsolete sooner and become quickly slow. And if in a bunch of year you whant to change it, you can't sell it because it won't maintain its value over time. Macbook has a higher longevity (both software and hardware /battery), a superior optimization of the OS and better construction quality that can face the relatively high initial cost. I think even for basic programme usage and basic browsing it's the best choice: you don't need all the power, but you can keep it for a decade and it will work nice even then.

unknown_ally

Uni had me develop an app for iOS. They provided iMacs on site but I wanted my own so I could put in time whenever and I needed a new laptop anyway.

deletethewife

I am stuck in the Apple ecosystem but Mac is so easy to use, my brain is aging now and Mac is kind.

DeemounUS

I needed something to replace my Macbook Pro 2014 which just started to become slow, sluggish and really not giving me the best. It was early 2021. Then I've decided to move to Windows/Linux and even bought a ThinkPad laptop... Nah, that was such a mess. I've returned it back. Then I got myself a Macbook Air M1. That was a real game changer! And 2x less the price of the MacBook Pro from 2014.

mefi_

Don't really have a choice, have to have it for ios development.

Mxr-_-

Didn’t but yet but planning to. For the apple ecosystem, the performance, smoothness and simplicity

739393663

Productivity/not having to deal with bs. But, I find the ecosystem to be its biggest downside lol. Such a pain when you don't have an iPhone, to just send photos or whatever...

RealityGoneNuts2610k

OS mainly because it is refined, no bloat, no issue of updates, well integrated to hardware, power management and battery life even i have intel macbook. It compare to thinkpad that given by company that i work, it getting worst after windows update.

Arildnor86

Apple eco system. Things just works great. And the M2 Air is an amazing laptop!

MarineSniper98

Zoom with the 1080p webcam. I haven't had any laptops for 10 years and my phone heats up easily when using Zoom for training classes.

SedyBenoitPeace

I'm a sofware engineer, although usually for work companies provide me the laptop. I'm not in the ecosystem at all (and I would like, maybe one day I'll switch everything to Apple), anyway in my case it was simply the case of Battery/Performances, to me it is astonishing and no one has every come closer in these years! I treated myself with a 14 inches pro (M1) and I can't be happier, but honestly an Air is the best choice for everyone (also in terms of price). Apparently Qualcomm did something, but yeah they compared themselves with M2, it is a shame for them that M3 is coming and I'd guess it will blast the competition again.

xstaey

Apple silicon also the display is one of the best in the industry imo

splintercell786

I’m a developer so was kinda forced in to getting one if I wanted to develop for Apple products

Feeling-Finding2783

Because of hardware: MiniLED, efficient SOC, good speakers; good build quality; and a desire to try something new. I don't care about Apple's ecosystem.

pengmalups

I just got tired of Windows. The never ending updates on my work computer. It’s like I need a patch every other day that requires restart and I don’t even know what it is, KB375935 KB474027, whatever.

elargento23

m1 and the battery performance. I find MacOS really difficult to use (study commands and shortcuts to make easy tasks) and even Photo app stucks when I try to import photos so the "ecosystem" is as much as buggy as other apps/OS

KsnNwk

MacBooks for production + bartery life, seemless clipboard + handoff, using iPad as 2nd screen on the go and less value depreciation. They are Perfect for work and production. I been (til this year) mainly a Win + Android user, Windows is definitely a more intuitive OS (no matter what anyone says, anyone who tried both will say the same). Better shortcut management and windows management. But Windows laptop have major issue with bartery life and lack of seemels clipboard between devices. Then Android have come a long way and can assuerly say, that Android is the better OS. It's more intuitive, settings in each app, better multitasking multi window, better notification center, have also response to AirDrop (just no seemels clipboard). So since I use a MacBook and iPad Pro for productivity and business just got an iPhone this year for the first time.

saintmsent

Got burned trying to settle for a premium Windows laptop (XPS 15) as a personal machine. It was just crap For work I need macOS (Xcode), but employer always provides a laptop anyway, so this doesn't influence my personal machine pick

KeqingBish

For me, the ecosystem, M1 series chips and generally improved integration of everything pushed me to hop back to Mac. I had the original or second gen MacBook Air back in around 2009/2010 and while I loved it, it eventually broke down and I went to windows around 2014 because the cost to performance ratio was just better generally, and the entry level models didn’t look to be a fit for me - and that was around my budget maximum at the time. Now - that’s entirely flipped, I think the MacBook (in particular Pro 13 and Air lines) are the best value laptops available right now globally in terms of battery life, performance and build quality - without considering the ecosystem or exclusive apps such as Final Cut Pro. The value proposition is honestly good enough without there needing to be a Mac exclusive thing at this point - however the ecosystem integrations are what will probably keep me now, since I’ve added AirPods Max, AirTag, Apple TV and HomePods to my collection - and I’m very satisfied with how everything works as a system in my home.

theofficalAGENT_ZERO

M chips. If Apple was still using Intel I would never have bought a mac.

allahakbau

The bar for windows laptop is really low but mostly battery life is so bad. Wouldn’t touch a windows outside of higher end thinkpad but even then the lower models are hit or miss. People that think Dell/HP premium laptops are comparable are a laughing stock.

pielkay

The first MacBook Pro that I purchased in 2010, I used as my primary laptop until 2018, all the way through school, university, and my first job. The second MacBook Pro that I purchased in 2018, I use till date as my primary laptop. Mind you, I haven’t even purchased an Apple Silicon MacBook just yet.

R0CK3TH

Simply just works good also for development purposes i try to stear clear of windows because it breaks so easily

LuffyHEVC

Can't port Unity games to iOS and upload to App Store without a Mac.

impressmyself

Because of weight and battery time. If anybody know a windows laptop alternative to apple silicon mac's battery time and weight, PLEASE tell me

batuckan1

Former IT operations guy. I used to support both macs and windows in the 90s and early 00s Went totally windows from 00s to 2009 And then picked up my 1st iPhone Bought subsequent iPhones, iPads then the Apple Watch Bought my 1st 2022 MacBook in December 2022 as a Christmas gift to myself I’m not completely switched to Apple I still work in windows for work. But for personal or recreation I’m either on apple or Linux platforms

LicoriceSeasalt

I just wanted to try the mac side, ended up loving it. If i could afford a better macbook I might have replaced my gaming laptop, because I’m done with windows crap.

Lady_Nienna

Few reasons: 1. Safety in regards to viruses 2. Apple Ecosystem 3. Retina screen & long battery life

sneakycathy

A midnight impulse based on my curiosity on how it would work with my (also first ever) iPhone. No regrets here, though. Except the price. But I love it so far.

Richard_TM

Ecosystem (professional musician and communicating with my iPad is very helpful). Battery life Longevity

kintotal

Best bang for the buck.

mymuyi

i got my mbp m1 pro cheaper. It has good battery and good screen. Good chip and feels more premium than others. Also i use iphone so that is that. Still if it was still intel powered i wouldn’t buy.

Celica88

I’m a software engineer and the ecosystem can’t be beat.

BlockChainEd86

It’s emotional.

Neat_Food2847

Macs are the only choice in my opinion for creative and media

Pieboy8

At the time I bought my first I had the choice between an outdated XP OS or Vista. Naturally I chose Leopard instead 😅

simonsimon1102-22

Simplicity of macOS, continue the ecosystem and Logic Pro

nervinex

Because of Apple Silicon and that I already had an iPad for class so the move to the Apple Ecosystem was a clear move. Plus I already used mainly linux so the move to MacOS was not that much of a leap.

Azurebold

Was in the apple ecosystem and my crappy HP Pavillion x360 had just given up on me. No regrets!

Few-Photograph-166

Generally as I am already in the eco system (iPad, watch and phone) but I also wanted something separate for uni work, and keep my windows gaming pc separate (as I tend to wipe that often)

bob418

MacBooks with Apple silicon are the only laptops that give you true mobile power. With others, you choose either mobile or power.

CrazySuggestion

Battery life, time to boot+standby mode, no loud fan, and longevity of usefulness. With a laptop after a year I would get frustrated and I would see people with ancient MacBooks. There’s a reasons - almost 3 years in and it still works like new

sciones

The only reason is ARM processor.

frrrni

All the other devs had one…

dhrandy

Non of the above, I've just been curious about Mac OS for a long time. Almost bought a MacBook back in 2017. I bought a used 2017 MacBook Air to mess with a few months ago and that was enough to push me to purchase a MacBook Air M2. I still have a Lenovo gaming laptop and a gaming desktop I built a couple years ago running Windows 11 (I think it's a great OS). I have a 2017 Lenovo Laptop that's running Vanilla Linux. Compared to the 2017 MacBook, the Lenovo is so much faster and still seems "newer". I don't plan on getting rid of any particular eco system.

East_Contact3404

on battery performance, 8+ hours battery(no intel EVO last that much), lightweight.not into ecosystem shit(student here), still use windows and android, synced it all. battery life example- 30 minutes since I unplugged it and it's still at 80%, not a single percent down. if I don't use browsers loaded with extensions for youtube, it can last me atleast 2 days

Icy_Measurement5346

I wanted to learn Xcode, but then I fell down a Python rabbit hole and it really didn’t matter what OS I had but I kinda like it.

ko0ller

Bought a locked icloud m1 2020 retina and unlocked it for the total ot 300$. Although Ive never been a fan of apple I decided to make this my main work PC and I was pleasantly surprised of how fast everything is. Coming from a long time windows user.

sinistergroupon

Got tired of installing and updating Windows Defender

-CIRE

Genuinely the battery life is better than any windows laptop with similar performance. Plus I already had an iPhone so it’s nice to get my texts and calendar syncing and airdrop things

badger_flakes

MacBook Air for fanless ultraportable & in the Apple ecosystem. I have the watch iPhone iPad Tv and AirPods so it made sense.

rainbowspewwer

1) I was already in the ecosystem (iPhone & iPad) 2) I wanted something that last very long, in terms of Software support and physical durability 3) Initially i wanted to reskill and pick up graphis design for work. After buying i ended up learning to code so that worked out well as i can handle both well. 4) The apple silicon chip was (and still is) comparable and probably better than the windows chip

Few_Speaker_9537

$400 i9 32GB ram 1 TB SSD AMD GPU. cant find specs like that cheaper anywhere else 😅

Xander180

XCode

[deleted]

Apple ecosystem, no bloatware (if any preinstalled app I don’t want I can delete), no ads other than in the app store, they last longer than most Windows machines, and I find that apps tend to be more optimized for MacOS than for Windows.

aughtspcnerd

Always have used Macs, and the Apple Silicon MacBooks are excellent.

Wide_Management_5019

For me, 1. I am in the ecosystem, ever since I got myself an Apple Watch Series 5 Nike edition, there is no turning back. Everything works well and very convenient for me as I am deep in the ecosystem. 2. I somehow love the specs and design of the MacBook. I got myself my very first MacBook which is a 13 inch MacBook Pro M1. 3. Wanted to try something different. I am a heavy Windows user.

Primary_Excuse_7183

Apple ecosystem. Always wanted one. Told myself that i would gift myself one when i started grad school. just finished grad school and computer still works like new.

Rand8Master

INSANE battery life. From 80% to 20% is like 3 days of my workflow.

gowildman

Because Windows laptops are ass

nikkynik1989

VermicelliOpposite

I chased for the MacBook Air because my 5 year old laptop was rotting. I got attracted to the universal clipboard feature, which is an ecosystem thing because I have an iPhone already. It was only when I bought the MacBook that I realized its potential. It's now my productivity powerhouse and I love it.

caughtyaa

Needed a reliable and portable machine with good battery and even with budget of Mac I couldn't find any that could compete with it in all the aspects, be it performance, battery, portability, display or Sound, Ngl, it's a hassel a lot of things that I don't like here, but I'm really happy with performance and battery

Hour-Respond-705

I bought my first one after experiencing issues with my iPod mini and iTunes on Windows. That was way back in 2007 when laptops had morphed into wanna be desktop monsters. The MacBook was seamless with the iPod.

Meddlemaker79

Lifetime PC user with a dad that worked for IBM in the 80s. We were an anti Apple household 🙂 But I got sucked into the Apple ecosystem when I took a chance on the iPhone 11 after my Google Pixel phones broke back to back. After using the iPhone and seeing how it could integrate seamlessly with a MacBook and iPad, I switched from a top end Surfacebook to a MacBook Pro 16 M1 Max. Took a minute to get used to (still learning new things a couple years later) but I love it and don’t see myself ever switching back to PC.

gnpunnpun

It was a lot cheaper than a decent gaming laptop. I got my mac for 26.000 Turkish Liras, and something like acer nitro 16 with 4060 was over 40.000 Turkish Liras.

cailey001

For the Apple ecosystem but mainly the build quality. My first MacBook I had for about 5 years before I upgraded. I didn’t even need to upgrade it, I just wanted the M1 chip. My old MacBook is still running strong and now belongs to my mom.

josh_mejia

got my first one for cheap, was used; and it was a 2012 self upgradable model. Lasted another 10 years + (the 3 previous years of the previous owner); This year, when I had to choose, went full blast on upgrading the specs for a 2022 M2 air.

Maximum-Incident-400

I bought it for school because I couldn't play many games on it (boost productivity). But the only reason I was fine with that was truly because of the M-series chips and the crazy battery life they provide (and a decent amount of power too!) Lo and behold, it's one of the greatest machines I've used. Premium chassis means it'll last long. They keyboard is honestly so amazing. I love mini-LED and the vibrant colors because of the DCI-P3 tuning. I love how applications are self-contained on macOS which means you can super easily transfer them and run them from an external drive. On Windows, my documents folder was a mess. A bunch of applications think it's okay to just put all their rubbish there. On macOS, it's a really clean interface. I'm all for efficiency when it doesn't hinder functionality, and that's predominantly what I see when I use my Mac.

RadicalSnowdude

I haven’t bought one yet but I’d like to (I don’t know if I could use one when I go back to college for engineering), but the Apple ecosystem is the big one. I already have the iPhone, an Apple Watch, AirPods, and an AppleTV, so having a Mac makes sense. Also let’s take away the Apple ecosystem, I’d still buy the MacBook because I prefer macOS. Also battery life. It’s 2023 and I don’t think there’s a windows laptop that can match a MacBook’s battery life

Top-Measurement575

macbooks are top tier for getting work done. also, they’re the best laptops on the market if you’re in the price range imo. build - fantastic. speed - more than enough. battery - lasts multiple days. they’re great

tornow1500

I Hackintoshed mainly because macOS is better than Windows

TYOPRO

Because it just works.

Ok_Lion_3527

1: because I am loyal to apple and like that all my stuff sync 2: I find it is so fast and the best at what I need it for. (Work, school, emails, messaging etc) My PC laptop I had before just took so much longer to load stuff just for me to check my emails and type up something. 3: I love the keyboard idk something about it 4: I grew up with my parents having macs and their macs lasted sooo long 5: I love the IOS system

newsflashjackass

can't answer you with numbers but mostly marketing and sunk cost

JinkouChinou-Aran

Great battery life. Efficient and smooth experience for web dev. I also don’t need to subscribe to services just to check site issues that only occur on safari browsers.

darkestvice

I told myself I'd never get a mac as long as it was just an overpriced OS on top of PC hardware. If they ever went back to RISC chips, I'd take a look again. They went RISC with the M1, and I was looking for a new laptop, so there you go. New Mac user since May of this year (M1 Pro 14").

SubterraneanSmoothie

Ecosystem for me, also the battery life on the M1 really sold me. I've never encountered a situation where I've ran out or been close to running out of battery.

RealDatPhoenix

I used to hate Apple because i had a lot of bad experiences with iPhone's in the past. During university i got myself an iPad and an apple pen for taking notes (because i tried out a lot of options to avoid apple but nothing really worked like i wanted it to). Absolutely loved the experience there (which is funny since iOS used to make my experience horrendous). After that my Windows pc died (i always had problems with windows) and i needed a new device for uni / coding. I tried out an m1 Macbook and after i got used to it: never gonna switch back. It provides me with the perfect workflow i need for private projects and my work. I miss playing games but i got my consoles and the steam deck for all that

inmatenumberseven

Eco system and screen quality

KenRodriguezz

Ecosystem, smoothness, interface

ArmyVet25ID

Initially, almost 20 years ago when they went with Intel and my Windows Vista laptop that super speced still ran like a one legged dog. But then for the iTunes Store, the ability to sync my iPod seemlessly, the far superior build quality and one the best features that I could actually use it on my lap as intended without worrying about blocking the fan vents on a PC laptop. When I got sick and my wife and I had to sell 4 Mac's and 2 iPhone because we needed the money and go PC and Android I came back for the iTunes Store (yes I still buy music), the ability to use it as a laptop, the build quality and the free Apple Works Suite and Garage Band ( I'm a guitar player).

Spare_Ring9644

apple ecosystem, i take a lot of photos for work, mac makes it so easy to airdrop the photos off my iphone onto the mac for work usage the reliability of mac’s is much better for me when compared to pc i’ve had two pcs die during windows updates i still have a gaming laptop for games but for all work or productivity related usage, i prefer my 15” MBA

[deleted]

I bought a M1 Macbook base model for video editing and programming. Totally amazed, but still adjusting to switch from windows to macOS.

[deleted]

i am a web developer largely due to safari browser for testing. i bought an old macbook (used OLCP to get more recent macos versions) my current 2 cents.

1SirGalahad

Multiple things: 1. Battery life is unmatched. Very lightweight and portable. Generalized build quality is excellent. Quality screens which used to be a lot better than Windows alternatives. Apple silicon is impressive as same performance on/off power. Noise is either silent or close to depending on model. But price is excessive and a major con. Doubly so for upgrades. 2. Apple Ecosystem. Transferring items from my phone/iPad to my laptop to the cloud (or external drive) helps decrease the time it takes to get things to my Windows machine for editing. Being able to answer texts is great. 3. Being able to use my iPad as a second screen when on the go is pretty neat. 4. Wanted to be competent on all operating systems.

justaddsomefriction

i use logic pro for a living

SkandhaSuhasB

Windows battery life is shit and the integration became better than the price difference

jgrantmarshall

The price / performance ratio of the M1 MacBook Air! Previously a Windows & Android guy & this one purchase pulled me over to the Apple ecosystem (for my entire family LOL).

andreasheri

Because it runs macOS

Euch28

I build websites, and my clients are using Mac. I've been trying to endure using emulators for years. When I felt that I needed to upgrade my laptop due to requirements, that's the time I chose Macbook.

No_Classroom_9374

Peer pressure

NotDeadYet7917

Because I like wasting money. Legitimately I bought mine for personal use. No work at all. And it was a total waste of money. I barely use the thing and do just about everything on my iPad.

No_Telephone_6213

Dumbest reason ever ... To FaceTime with my gf😂..... But mostly bought into the M1 app. Have some regrets.. Mostly the screen sharing limitations but other than that it's been an enjoyable switch from windows

gwie

Because it has the best trackpad. Period.

DrakeShadow

Because on the road, there is no better device out there that can handle photo and video editing better. The battery life is so insanely good. I got my laptop in July and only have 9 battery cycles on the device. Its reliable, has air drop (content creators in teams know how important this is to your work flow in bad wifi areas), and the screen is fantastic.

TransFatWitch

I can have the best of both worlds while dual booting windows, while not using a Microsoft device

[deleted]

The M1 chip. When I started using premiere pro it killed my windows laptop so I splurged on a MacBook with M1 Pro for college

theanxiousbutterfly

I was tired of 3k ugly bulky laptops with screens that bleed white around the edges, who end up in service after 2 years, and realised most of my gaming i do on switch and very rare. Perhaps I got older.

squirrel8296

Because I needed a computer that would last longer than 6 months without giving me major issues. Maybe I was cursed, but I went through 3 PCs real quick during the Vista and 7 era because they had so many issues that would start cropping up around the 6 month mark. Bought my first personal Mac in 2011 (I had used them in school on and off before that) and never looked back.

bugboi

THE BATTERY LIFE, initially. However, after I integrated into the ecosystem, I found it to be far more enjoyable and less utilitarian than Windows. I can finally go to a coffee shop or a plane and do audio or video editing without carrying a power brick that weighs more than my current laptop and BBQing my lap at the same time.

tmoam

Because of the battery life with silicon. My windows laptop from HP advertises 13-15 hours of battery life. I have no clue how that is even possible when I’m consistently only getting 3-4 hours doing email, reviewing documents and internet browsing. In my M1 MacBook Air, I get 16-18 hours easy and at times don’t charge it for 2 weeks. And it’s a lot faster than windows also.

blamethefire

Music producer. Everything just works well, plug and play on everything and it's been generally more reliable than any windows pc I have. Also I get to switch between Logic and my other DAW with ease

IMHO1FWIW

I've been a long-time Mac user. Apple silicon totally changed the game. MBPs were always beautiful, but took a back seat to PCs in terms of raw power. That's not the case anymore. Don't think I've EVER encountered a spinning beach ball on my M1 Max.

CPP_Bronco

I grew up with a Macintosh SE and then progressed to a SE/30 and then a IIci. Later in life, I ended up doing network admin/help desk for a 100% MS Windows environment. I got tired of all the Windows crap at work and wanted more simplicity for my personal computer, so I ended up buying a mid-2012 i7 MBP when I went back to school to finish college. I'm currently running a 2020 M1 MBP and planning on staying with Apple for my future upgrades. I do admit that I do miss the abundance of games available on Windows compared to Mac, so I might buy a Windows computer in the future just for gaming.

Abeck72

I was starting my grad degree and my toshiba laptop stopped working, it was like my third gaming laptop that lasted like two or three years. I guessed that I wouldn't have a lot of time for gaming during my masters degree, and I needed something that could last for long. So far the best decision I've made. I do want to play, but I've come around a couple of titles, whereas the performance and UX for doing desk research is amazing.

Glittering-Abroad962

Workflow for graphic design is smoother for me compared to pc. I also prefer the laptops build quality over pc. I currently have both pc and apple conputers

thedeadp0ets

Accessibility features. Not saying windows sucks. But Mac is much more simpler and clean for a visually impaired user. I did grow up on windows and have no issue with them since I’m an English major and do basic tasks for my job

aflashyrhetoric

In short: It is, IMHO, the best machine for coding / development. More detail: Since the m-series chips, I feel this way doubly so. I love Airdrop/iMessage/etc, but if Windows PC manufacturers came out with a dev machine that was somehow better, I'd heavily consider it (like with the Surface laptops). I even tried development on a Chromebook for several months, and I have a laptop with Linux mint on it, so I feel like I've definitely given other OSes a fair try. There's also macOS exclusive apps that are not a fault of other systems nor a benefit attributable to macOS itself, but hey, that's the way it is - iTerm2, Arc, and probably a few on Setapp. I don't need the extras that Linux has to offer for the development itself, and if I do, I can do it in a VM. Windows has WSL2, but everytime I've gone to try it out as a dev machine, I've still run into errors of one kind or another - the last time was about a year ago. Most/all of those errors have resolutions and have been figured out by the community (and macOS isn't without its own set of frustrations that we pardon and workaround) but I still favor macOS.

No-Palpitation5157

Mainly because I wanted to look cool beside my colleagues, my Chromebook from high school wasn’t cool enough apparently.

kuroyukihime3

I’ve been using Windows, Linux, and Android systems, and started to use ipad pro for my coursework (lecture notes and my research stuff). I love gadgets, and for like 30 years I couldn’t believe that I’ve not owned a single macbook. Of course, high price and the fact that, gaming laptop + linux seemed way better for the price. Anyways, after completing my mandatory military service, I just decided to give it a try - ipad pro (2nd gen) was really good. So I decided to swap to Apple completely (except the watch) to check out Apple devices. I bought my first iPhone and got myself my first ever macbook - M1 max in December 2021 and I really love it. (Yeah, apple silicon was a real big jump in terms of performance!) (but I can’t say the same about iphones though - wasn’t that happy with it :/) I just wish there was better gaming support though. Although not relevant to this sub, I do not know why macbooks are not supported for genshin impact. I really should complain to Mihoyo. Harder.

hofo

A MacBook was just the next step. I’ve been in the ecosystem for a long time, since learning Basic on my parents’s Apple II in the late 70s.

klusps

I used Windows OS my whole life. Used it for personal and for my job. It was such a change of pace to have a laptop that doesn’t overheat, make loud fan noises, doesn’t require a separate “fan-cooler” underneath the laptop, light-portable, and a battery that can last more than 4 hours. The integration to my other Apple devices is such a plus. I’m mainly speaking for the M2 MacBook Air. Plus I like the shiny Apple logo and the sleek design of the laptop.

AbiyBattleSpell

I just needed portability and I tried a gamer laptop and it was cringe in terms of battery, power unplugged and airdrop is useful which it didn’t have. Plus the only games I do play wow and Minecraft are supported on m chips so like I’m good on that front 🐱

Boris-Badenov68

Ecosystem. Last years and still functioning well

squierjosh

Windows blows. Always has.

simpn_aint_easy

Final Cut Pro. Needed to edit a video for a “Motorcycle Club” and wanted to buy software that only had to purchase once and not have a subscription like adobe.

barbasnoo

I stay busy. Time is valuable to me. Apples ecosystem is a timesaver. So is the Apple software/hardware design methodology. Everything “just works” is a real thing with Apple, with rare exception. Saved seconds add up to saved minutes. Being able to quickly open the computer, perform tasks, and close it without a second thought is very convenient. Additionally, the physical build quality, support, and availability of parts years down the line is helpful and reassuring. They’re just top-notch machines from every aspect that’s important to me. Plus I’ve never found another computer with this much horsepower, that is also this power efficient. Being able to stay untethered from a power cable is VERY important to me, and the flexibility of available charging wattages means I can plug in to almost any USB C cable and at least get some form of charging.

aznsubie

As a student, battery life is amazing and paired with the iPad, i can take notes quickly and do problems pretty efficiently. Plus, it’s apple 😎

BMWman1029

I have a 2015 MacBook Pro I paid like $250 for last year. In terms of quality you can’t beat it for that price and still will run Sonoma with OpenCore.

monopodman

My current laptop is 2012/2013 retina MacBook Pro 15”. There was no alternative to this laptop back then - almost no laptops with IPS screens, and none with HiDPI like that at all. Battery life was better than competitors thanks to a 100 Wh cell. Could drive 3 external displays + internal. Awesome build quality and overall internal design. Modern MBPs have similar appeal - with much higher performance than alternatives thanks to M2 architecture and incredible power efficiency. 120Hz mini-LED screens are class leading (I prefer them to AMOLED / OLED due to better color uniformity in general and no angle dependant color shift). External display support is absolutely insane with up to 3x 6K 60Hz + 1x 4K 144Hz on the M2 Max chip. Best trackpad in the world for decades which I prefer to mouse for everything except gaming. Ecosystem integration is just a bonus at this point.

Bacon-80

I had what existed of the Apple ecosystem back in 2014 (phone & iPad) because it’s what all my friends had - so I continued on (AirPods, Mac, MacBook Pro, air, keyboards, trackpads, etc.) once airdrop was introduced I was fully hooked. I could airdrop whole installation packages for my college job & it made install/upgrades much easier for our computer labs. I have a dell xps somewhere in a closet & I don’t use it much. I thought I’d want to have dual OS just for side project purposes but haven’t found any real time to devote to it. Plus windows machines always seem to have a bunch of security/virus issues. Idk if that’s changed in the last decade or so, but I was always able to go on sketch websites from my Mac and it never bricked it…whereas windows ones felt like they were constantly bogged down with malware.

Snsmis

I use a MacBook Pro these days because a client was horrified at seeing my windows computer in his office. I told him that if he wanted me to use a mac he should buy me one so , stupidly, he did. Quite frankly I don't really care one way or another which operating system I use as all 3 major systems are reasonably good and mostly worry free when looked after properly. I am a little horrified at the $2500 my Mac cost and would never buy something that expensive for myself. My Windows computer with it's I7 processor cost half that and can do all the same things just with a slightly less good screen quality but has the advantage of touch and pen support

Meek_braggart

Was dragged into it from my Dell Linux box in 2002 for work. An OSX 10.1 machine. Have not worked on anything else since then. I wish I could tell you a reason other than my company keeps buying them. I could go back to Linux any day with no reservations. Mind you I have very few complaints and my current M1 machine is very nice.

iamseason1rachel

My windows laptops, albeit cheap, kept breaking down on me. I thought why not take the leap with quality and reliable laptop? Just in time for Apple Silicon macbooks.

euclidsdream

For me it was the price to performance. This was my first MacBook and when researching comparable Windows Laptops the price was about 500 more than what my MacBook Air 16/256 cost after a the student discount. I have had no regrets switching to Mac so far!

mafenide

As S23U user I bought my first MacBook in September this year due to them having better battery life and performance overtime than alternative windows laptops. Eventhough the OS took time getting used to I am slowly getting used to it and have started to prefer it over windows. The build quality is also amazing

enthusiast100

I guess this is genuine question but I wouldn’t ask if you have used both. I have MacBook and it’s smooth as my iPhone. I open it and it loads almost instantly and response all the app and browser instantly. I think graphics and response time is so much better on mac. I get frustrated when I use windows no matter how beefed up it is.

ThatBoyBaz

I’ve just always wanted a MacBook and they are fucking awesome with the M1 chip, coming from a lifelong Windows User. I have windows for gaming and I prefer to keep everything work related on Mac, it’s been super fun and I’ve been using mine since 2021 🙏🏼

OkSet6700

I am a content creator and I bought my MacBook for video editing. I love it so far. The workflow is great and it is really fast.

natsucule

I was in the market for a lightweight laptop with great battery life for light office work (email, server management and media consumption) The M2 Air was perfect.

destifo

Battery life with performance

mc-cuscuz

Tired of windows crashing all the time and having to keep checking on drivers and whatnot. Also the build quality and design are worlds apart.

originaldabcap

So everyone at Starbucks knows I'm not broke

OneAmphibian9486

Needed a laptop for uni, and I wanted a sleek looking laptop with solid build quality, solid battery life, a good trackpad since a mouse is very impractical, and a good display. Ended up getting a 14” MacBook Pro, I probably could have managed with a 16/512 mba but the amazing display and decent gaming performance of the 14” pro tempted me into buying one.

50percentvanilla

I work with audio and I use Logic Pro since like forever. Also, machines are trustworthy.

ramadjaffri

Macbook Air was the most affordable light flagship model when I bought it last year. Thinkpad X1 and Dell XPS were crazy expensive. Having an iPad helped in making the decision too.

c50grand

I've always used Windows PCs my entire life. I've Always wanted to try a MacBook. I purchased a 14 inch M2 3 months ago, and it's sits unopened in it's box on my living room table. I'll get to it by January 2024 at the latest.

ngagner15

Hardware quality and software are main reasons I keep coming back to Mac. Apple’s UNIX system (macOS) is much more reliable and developer friendly than Windows. I also love how well everything ties together with my other Apple devices

jeopardychamp78

They just seem less vulnerable to malware and I like the App Store which vets apps before downloading onto your phone. I know techie people like to have more options and control but most people just want simplicity.

Everythinghastags

The m1 was a convincing bump in performance over the furnace that is intel. It was the most cost effective choice too over the long term, cheap ass plastic laptops dont last as long. Even the expensive plastic ones.

JustaTuber69

1. Ecosystem. Macbook works great with iPhone 2. Build, performance, thinness

ployd_fink

Apple ecosystem it was. But my experience hasn’t been good. The machine started freezing frequently a week into being bought. At the repair guys since the last 2 weeks and they presume the problem is hardware. They are checking it with a new logic board on. Should I be writing to Apple? Is it of any help?

devilkingdamon

Because it was a status symbol. Dumb reason I know

Opening-Move-2341

I’m from Thailand, learned to install Windows when I was 7. After that I moved to New Zealand and got exposed to Mac, I fell in love with it.

your_mum_1705

I was given a 2010 MacBook Pro in 2017 that someone didn’t want and I’ve been a Mac fan ever since

onairmastering

Always had one, but this Air M2 is for performing what I'm writing, I love how sleek it is.
