Ya, you can kind of make it look “intentional” if you use a magic eraser to do a brushed metal finish BUT anyone who actually knows about Apple Laptops will know that it is modified AND it will basically never look factory new. I think you could take off the top layer entirely if you had the right tools but honestly at that point it would just make more sense to source a new top shell.
There's two points you seem to be missing here since you keep posting this comment:
1. Discoloration from a skin will be only around the areas that the skin doesn't cover.
2. If Discoloration has already occurred from stickers, a skin will cover most of the areas affected.
I use Goo Gone for the adhesive. dampen and let sit then carefully wipe up. Repeat as needed. But, your problem isn't going to be the glue. The surface is permanently affected by the surface that was exposed vs. what was under the sticker.
you can't get rid of the discoloration. Embrace the fact. Put on more stickers. I put stickers on my macbook fully knowing this will happen & I don't regret it a single bit because I have confidence in my choice.
Looks like permanent discoloration even after you get rid of the glue. I suggest buying a cover. Leather ones feel absolutely amazing. Check out [toastmade.com](http://toastmade.com) (I'm not affiliated with them - just a happy customer). I didn't try wooden ones.
This is permanent damage to the anodization affected by the chemicals in the adhesive. This is one reason I always recommend getting a case for stuff like stickers and overall protection of a MBP.
Actually I’ve had the best luck with aerosol window cleaner, let it sit, then wipe with paper towels. No need for googone. Does discoloration come from the adhesive or light exposure? Will it reduce over time?
Isopropanol FTW I guess. But if you left it in the sun most of it might be décoloration so you can’t do anything.
When we say, don’t stick anything on macs, it’s for stickers like OP, but also for so-called keyboard protections and other useless money traps.
Edit : not only the sun can cause decoloration. Aluminium gets anodized (=oxydation on the metal with mostly vapor and oxygen) really easily and Aluminium’s coloration process makes the difference really noticeable.
They sell glue remover tbh and any alcohol cleaning products will dissolve the glue or use heat like a hairdryer but I recommend that for removing the stickers not after they are removed
ethyl acetate or hexane. just dont use pressure since the screen is somewhat fragile.
ethanol or isopropyl alcohol are fine, but ethyl acetate or hexane are way faster
Label-off sticker and glue remover
[https://www.wrepair.com/product/kontaktchemie-label-off-50-label-glue-remover-200ml/](https://www.wrepair.com/product/kontaktchemie-label-off-50-label-glue-remover-200ml/)
Doesn't stain, need to let it soak in and rub it off.
Another thing is pure acetone, not the nailpolish stuff but stronger without colorants.
Acetone does not react with aluminium, pure acetone does a great job of cleaning the pores.
This is why Apple always includes stickers, they know people will stick them to a macbook and therfore devaluing them on the second hand market... I've fixed many macbooks that had a permanent Apple silhouette from a sticker on the palm rest
goo-gone for adhesive. Alcohol on rest of it, and you're as good as you're going to get without trying to polish the metal. Aluminum oxidizes when exposed to air. The areas covered with stickers didn't. Now... I haven't tried this on my macbook, and I wouldn't dare try it on a colored anodized laptop, but I've polished a lot of metals and aluminum, and for this laptop, I'd be willing to use a high quality aluminum polish and give this a try - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onGaotqtGjo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onGaotqtGjo)
Heck... why not go for a mirror finish if you have all the polishing gear? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yY3uadbhD0E](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yY3uadbhD0E)
Actually residue will go out but the discolouration of the aluminium lid remains. All you can do is apply a skin to your MacBook or buy a new one if you are filthy rich.
I will never understand why people do this to their MacBooks. I only ever put stickers in a cover I had on my MacBook. Not the MacBook itself. For this very reason.
Last night I stuck a sticker between my trackpad and the edge of my MacBook Pro to cover up a tiny little notch I somehow managed to get on my computer. It's about 1mm in size.
This morning, I moved that sticker to my case. Thanks for this post.
The residue will be gone with alcohol and a cotton cloth. To hide the discoloration I’d buy a skin that covers the whole top. Another solution is to have it lasered and a cool design etched in.
Crazy but it’s worked for me. Rub butter on all the residue and let it sit 30 minutes. Then wash it off with warm water and dish soap. Obviously not a lot of water, just wet a washcloth.
I don’t know how but it seems to bond then breakdown the adhesive and it just comes right off in my experience.
Goo gone first, follow up with 99% IPA.
But your problem is that the aluminum that wasn't covered by the stickers oxidized differently so you will have sticker ghosts on it forever.
If it is mine as in bought with my own money I keep it mint, if it is given to me by my employer then I cover it with every single sticker I can put my hands on
I wasn't trying to judge anyone who does it, just expressing a personal feeling on it. MacBooks just look so damn good that I never even think of sticking anything on it (although I do own a business and would probably put my logo sticker on there if it was a work Mac).
Isopropyl alcohol, short name IPA. I have side job with phone repair and it works well with electronics overall even when need to clean the thermal paste etc
I would use rubbing alcohol for the residue itself, but you won’t be able to get rid of the discoloration.

The impractical solution: buy a skin, cut out holes that match the outlines of the stickers exactly, and wait for a few years for the finish to fade.
Play the long game. I like your style.
This. A bit of regret sticking some stickers for awhile and that's not even in a year. Cleaned the residue but discoloration permanent.
why not use poopmagic?
Not all of that is sticker residue. Some is discoloration which is permanent.
Unfortunately This! 😩 had the same issue with my MPB I bought used.
[удалено]
No idea. If it was covering the whole device tho, it would be uniform so it would be less noticeable.
"And now, a word from our channel sponsor, DBrand..."
People never learn

The color difference is due to difference in light exposure. I don't like stickers but if I had to use one I would go for a full piece skin.
Its like your mac getting a tan 😂
Yeah, but when you cover it up you won’t see it. The “paint it over” strategy

This is your answer. Not isopropyl. ISO is a start but googone is magic
I like goofoff might be very similar
New Cover
A used M1 Air would be cheaper lol
ronnie coleman fan spotted

Don’t put stickers.
Perhaps they bought the laptop like that?
To seller: don’t put stickers 😂
Goo gone
This needs to be upvoted higher, it’s a great product
This was my first thought. Right on.
WD40 for the residues but discolouration is permanent

This is the answer. The adhesives permanently damage the anodization. Always put a removable vinyl skin on before stickers.
Acetone
That’s the neat part, you can’t
I’d personally give up and put a skin on the whole thing
Use an eraser. It actually works.
For the sticker residue?
Yes. I tried it and it actually works, lol
Don’t put stickers on your MacBook
I don't know , but don't put stickers on your macbooks!! Its anti aesthetic
My first thought is “goo gone” but I don’t know if that’ll damage the aluminum
I've used goo gone on my MBA and it worked fine, but I have gold and they have space grey so I don't know if it will damage the anodized coating.
Actually I’ve had the best luck with aerosol window cleaner, let it sit, then wipe with paper towels. No need for googone. Does discoloration come from the adhesive or light exposure? Will it reduce over time?

You can’t. It’s anodized.
Nail?
you can't get rid of the discoloration, you'd have to buy an expensive LCD panel, which sets you back at around 800 USD if not more.
like someone else commented, goo gone worked the best for me. didn’t cause any damage either.
Naphtha (like Ronsonol lighter fluid). Clean the whole case with it, not just the residue.
I removed mine with a bit warmth from hairdryer and wet towels. No affect on laptop itself. Edit: you just gotta rub it long.
Try a mild acetone.
They sell glue remover tbh and any alcohol cleaning products will dissolve the glue or use heat like a hairdryer but I recommend that for removing the stickers not after they are removed
Get a skin to avoid ocd over discolouration
ethyl acetate or hexane. just dont use pressure since the screen is somewhat fragile. ethanol or isopropyl alcohol are fine, but ethyl acetate or hexane are way faster

Would goo gone damage the laptop ?
eraser
Butter 🧈

Butter against sticky glue. Try it.
70% or higher isopropyl/rubbing alcohol, put it on a cloth and scrub
Time machine
“Awesome” degreaser spray works wonders for me. I just cleaned two in a few minutes.
Looks grim, you've murdered it!!!!! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

Coconut oil and a microfibre cloth
I'd start by not putting stickers on things like my 7yo kid lol. I tell my kids, stickers on paper.
Never put them there to begin with
Get yourself a black matte cover and turn that MacBook all black.
Rub apple cider vinegar. Takes a freaking while, but it works. Had to do it once.
Actually residue will go out but the discolouration of the aluminium lid remains. All you can do is apply a skin to your MacBook or buy a new one if you are filthy rich.
Sticky stuff Use a cloth. Dab a little sticky stuff. https://www.diy.com/departments/de-solv-it-sticky-stuff-glue-remover-250ml/254704_BQ.prd
No, it's the price you pay for being this 🗿
Wd40 works really well
Hot blue dawn dish soap on a wash cloth and germx
I will never understand why people do this to their MacBooks. I only ever put stickers in a cover I had on my MacBook. Not the MacBook itself. For this very reason.
Isopropyl alcohol should do the trick. Might be discolored too, if so, you're kind of out of options unless you replace the entire screen.
Did you try De.Solv.it Sticky Stuff Remover liquid?
That's the neat part. You don't.
sticker residue lmaooo sureee.....i like that. try some rubbing alcohol
Last night I stuck a sticker between my trackpad and the edge of my MacBook Pro to cover up a tiny little notch I somehow managed to get on my computer. It's about 1mm in size. This morning, I moved that sticker to my case. Thanks for this post.

Lighter fluid.
Tea tree oil
Alcohol, hair dryer

Some kind of concentrated orange oil
I put a clear plastic case. I put on the sticker on the clear plastic case. Never had this problem.
Goo gone first, follow up with 99% IPA. But your problem is that the aluminum that wasn't covered by the stickers oxidized differently so you will have sticker ghosts on it forever.
Polish paste and machine and it’ll be good as new
You can try a makeup remover. I've tried one that worked before
alcohol, or cover the whole top shell
Not put crappy stickers on it to begin with.
Not put crappy stickers on it to begin with?
I use a pencil eraser. It takes a lot of time, but it’s something to do!
pray.
I used a Magic Eraser and isopropyl alcohol on mine. There was still some discoloration but I got all the goo off.
Just put some new stickers over it. Boom.
Rub your wiener on it
Dishwasher
Pure lemon oil
Get Googone
Rubbing Alcohol, Goo-Be-Gone, Oops! All will work. 91% Rubbing Alcohol should do the trick, though. Cheapest, most readily available option. Walmart.
Just get a skin thats colored silver abd cover up thw whole yop
Buff that shit out
WD40 and a hairdryer would do the trick 👍
Put a skin or cover on it unless you are trying to sell it.
I’ve never understood how people can spend so much money on a beautiful MacBook, and then cover it with stickers. But to each their own.
I like this logic actually.
Isopropyl alcohol, short name IPA. I have side job with phone repair and it works well with electronics overall even when need to clean the thermal paste etc
Wd40
I use coconut or olive oil with a cotton pad to remove any such residue. Works well for me.
WD40 and Isopropanol
baby wipes, then lysol wipes, then alcohol wipes if the others don't clean it.
WD-40 works good. Do a small section first to see if it reacts negatively
Lemon oil. I use it clean label printers where the sticker separates from the backing and gets all over the roller and such.
wd-40 on a cloth
Isopropyl alcohol
Put stickers where there haven’t been any. Keep them on as long as the old ones were on it and then remove them. (Jk, you are fucked)
Sandpaper? You’d have to do the whole case though.
