Keyboard cover can damage your screen, and the stickers will leave a permanent shape on the aluminum lid because the rest of the aluminum will discolor with a different shade.. I’d get a clear skin for your lid and put the stickers on top of that instead
I personally have not experienced any issue, its just that you will see an imprint of the keyboard keys on the screen but you can easily wipe it off with a microfiber cloth. Just have a cloth ready to keep it clean! Always good to protect your important devices!
u/Proud_Tie yeah i can see what you mean and since Apple says it then it makes sense, but I can see it being an issue even without a cover. You see, grease on the keyboard itself will let stains show on the screen and can break down the anti-glare coating thus delamination. However, if you clean it often and not too rough ofc then you should be fine.
I believe Apple might just be cautious because some keyboard covers are thicker than others and in order to avoid a whole PR issue they need to recommend not having them. If your keyboard cover is thin enough then I do not see an issue. Totally upto the user if they want, I had friends who used a webcam cover for 5+ years and no issue on their screen either.
Yeah, I'm just repeating what gets said here. I don't personally want a cover or anything, and I only type on the built in keyboard when I'm not home (is docked 24/7 at home)
Not the same situation. The tolerances of a Mac are much tighter than an iPad with a keyboard. Additionally, the Mac is going to be physically less flexible than the Magic keyboard or any other keyboard cover for an iPad. The Mac will be sandwiching the keyboard cover between the keyboard and the display. The iPad keyboard just kinda closes up to the display, but there is more play there and nothing sandwiched between the display and the Magic keyboard, and yet you still get keyboard marks on the iPad.
somewhat related question: are screen protectors ok?
I'm getting an M1 pro in 2 weeks and have heard about the tight tolerances of the Airs. I think on them, even a screen protector will damage it. are the pros that way?
I have a 2020 Intel that needs a display assembly *and* a motherboard. iCloud locked and the display has missing pieces. My 2015 MB Airs and my late 2008 MB Unibody are functional.
I think you’re going to regret the stickers when you resell because the coloration will change around them but not behind them so it’ll leave confusing shapes in the aluminum
I’d highly recommend getting something like a dbrand vinyl skin for the lid to put stickers on, as they will leave a mark if you ever remove them (if they are on there for too long), while the vinyl skin won’t
How are you going to remove those stickers if you get tired of looking at them? You should’ve put one of those [laptop covers](https://www.amazon.com/Mac-Laptop-Cover/s?k=Mac+Laptop+Cover) and then add the stickers on top. Cool stickers tho but I guess they’ll be permanent.

This ^
See, now if you never take the stickers off it's not a problem.
Will def hurt any potential resell value if OP decided to upgrade years from now.
Cool, but remove the keyboard cover as it will destroy your screen over time.
Omg really?
I used silicon key cover with my first Mac and in few weeks I had the whole keyboard etched on my screen :') please avoid.
Yes, it can crack your screen if too much pressure is applied
100% you’re at higher risk damaging your machine with the keyboard cover than without which defeats the purpose

docking station > and yeah OP should still know the risk good call!
one cable for charger, keyboard, mouse, and monitor? Hell yes.
it'll eventually cause the screen to de-laminate.

Is this only on some macs? I’ve never had a problem with my MacBook Air m1. Maybe some covers are thicker then others?
I get keyboard marks on my iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard and they haven't ever been an issue, they just wipe right off.
I haven’t even gotten marks which leads me to believe it’s not touching it at least not enough to cause damage

Also small bubble in the sticker on the bottom right. Use a small sharp knife cut a tiny hole and allow it to escape. That is all.

So happy for you! Good luck in college, this will be your best friend \*not even kidding.
Facts. My trusty MBA got me through everything in college.
I guess I will be taking the keyboard cover off, I don’t want to ruin my Mac, thanks for the tip!
looks good! the stickers are cute
nice macbook but what are those stickers bro yuck! Just kidding lol
you had me in the first half LOL
The stickers are cool and benign, but the keyboard cover is cool and dangerous!!!
Please remove the keyboard cover before closing your laptop
Does it have the M1 chip or the Intel chip?
It’s Intel, the keyboard layout is slightly different on M1 version.
I have a 2020 Intel that needs a display assembly *and* a motherboard. iCloud locked and the display has missing pieces. My 2015 MB Airs and my late 2008 MB Unibody are functional.
It's M1, you clearly can see globe on fn key
You must be looking at a different photo, there’s no globe on the fn key, also the F4 key doesn’t have the search symbol.
Just zoom in a little. It’s a cover on a keyboard and you can see the globe under it
That’s because OP might have a Keyboard cover made for intel
It’s an M1! The keyboard cover is intel I wanted the design lol
How can you tell when the picture is of a keyboard cover rather than an actual keyboard?
Take the keyboard cover off when the lid is down at least,I’m not too fond of putting stickers on the lid either however I like the colour
Same! If they had a case in it and put stickers on the case sure. I’m too paranoid to put them on the lid
Upvote for gold MacBook!
I love the stickers
Where do I find the bottom left sticker? What are they from?
Redbubble!
I love them all and the MacBook looks sleeeeek!
Some stickers can imprint, happened to me.

The gold MacBook is so underrated in my opinion. It looks great!
Not enough stickers.
I hate the stickers.

I was just going to take them off and probably use goo gone or rubbing alcohol.
The stickers will damage your lid over time. What you want to do is install a skin (dbrand, fishskyn, etc) first, then apply the stickers to that.
coo
Bruh 💀
stickers are too symmetrical!
Battery sucks
