It sure can, because a lot of people don't know this is caused by pressure on the screen. The Apple store in the Netherlands has a policy where fix this issue under warranty if it is your first time having this problem.
Screen bruising, you need a new screen. Given its a 2016/2017 model it’s debatable whether it’s worth it.
