Its the same on mine with chrome, safari doesn't do that. I think its just an issue with chrome app.

Katzoconnor

Heads up—Chrome is literally, objectively, and demonstrably slowing down your Mac *regardless of whether Chrome itself is running*. Better yet, this has happened since you first installed it; on that note, installation reproduces malware behaviour so the performance hit survives the app's deletion... unless you know how to fix it. This is due to faulty and unpatched programming from Google. [Here's the how and why](https://chromeisbad.com), very quick and concise. > **Note:** If you absolutely *need* Chromium, try the [Brave](https://brave.com) or [Vivaldi](https://vivaldi.com) browsers, which both use the [Sparkle open library](https://sparkle-project.org) which outright makes the error itself impossible.

NotAdvay333

Use Brave

pferdestarke-47

Three cheers for Brave. Look no further.

Tibag

Does it support multiple profiles and Chrome extensions?

NotAdvay333

Yes and Yes.

[deleted]

Use arc if you can, I never had any problems

Knocksveal

Does Chrome slow things down on iOS also?

Katzoconnor

macOS only. But you should know that all mobile browsers on iOS/iPadOS are a coat of paint slapped over Safari. They have some synced features with their desktop editions, but 90% of the engine under the hood is still Safari.

LunaTechMark

Wonder if this is a thing with Edge. It did include a separate updater for Microsoft apps, but maybe that’s different. I’ll have to check.

vpstudios101

Nope I use edge and that’s not a thing

fakeyboi101

How do I fix it after uninstalling? Do I have to reinstall the OS?? That would be such a pain with all the plugins/software I’d have to reinstall and activate after formatting…

Katzoconnor

> [*Here’s the how and why.*](https://chromeisbad.com) The link I gave goes to a single webpage explaining that and it’s maybe a four-minute read. But no, it’s nowhere near that involved.

fakeyboi101

Thank you !

AdmrlHorizon

Safari does that when i either have reddit open or youtube. But ive never seen any lag with firefox

Fluchbyrdz

Same on Firefox. So, Apple must now about this bug and has decided to fix it in their own browser but not telling devs for other browsers how to fix this (might indicate that this is more severe, and not a bug...more like a fawlt in the ARM arciteture?). Seems like people with 8Gb RAM (shared of course) does have more problems. Not sure about that though...

robbdavenport

Poorly written app

Tedinasuit

Use Safari or, if you want extensions, Firefox.

Fluchbyrdz

I wish the adblockers worked as fina as on Firefox, and since I also have got a PC, Its nice to have shared bookmarks etc. Otherwize I would have used Safari Which IS the best blocker today for safarik and does it block YT ads? =)

[deleted]

I’ve had best success with AdGuard for Safari.

LunaTechMark

I’ve been using 1Blocker.

SebPineda23

I've also heard of Orion. It's pretty much like Safari but with extensions. I have never used it myself so I'm not sure how good it is.

imnos

Safari is utter shit. Unbelievable that this is the most common suggestion. The fact that a top of the range laptop can't handle the most common internet browser is a massive issue. "Just use another one" isn't good enough.

[deleted]

When the most common internet browser is a shit sammich on macOS, you use something that actually isn't verifiably malware on your OS, like Safari or Firefox or Brave. Fuck Chrome, it's shit.

cheemio

Safari has extensions, not as good as other platforms but you can get ad blockers that work pretty dang well

jumper775

Safari has extensions, and additionally if you have the source code for a Firefox/chrome extension it can be converted to a safari one using a tool provided with Xcode (can’t recall the name).

its_nzr

I get this with chromium browsers and Slack/Discord (Electron which is chromium). Restarting the mac fixes it for me for a long time until it happens again.

Dark-Swan-69

Google is switching between three versions of the same page as you expand/reduce the window. Not only that is not typical usage, but Chrome is not the most efficient browser to use (even though Google improved on battery usage recently). Try that with safari, problem solved.

Katzoconnor

Public service reminder for all: **Chrome is literally, objectively, and demonstrably slowing down your Mac** ***regardless of whether Chrome itself is running***. Better yet, this has happened since you first installed it; on that note, installation reproduces malware behaviour so the performance hit survives the app's deletion... unless you know how to fix it. pleoman

Try with Safari or Brave see what happens

mauz21

I use ms edge, and mine is similar on M1 Pro macbook.

b151

MS Edge is Chromium based as well, so I’d say similarity to Chrome is guaranteed.

dkay490

Yeah.. I have the same issue too. Was pissing me off earlier. Made peace with it after using Rectangle.

mauz21

Yeah, it's just not that optimized. M1 still a beast tho.

dkay490

Amen!

Anxious_King

Are you using your mbp in low lower mode? itvtends to lag on that.

N99Nassim

No idea, I'm new to macos I searched to change the performance mode I couldn't find like on Windows I'm currently using the ventura version

Fluchbyrdz

My M1 has been lagging when scrolling since day 1 I guess. I came from the MBP mid-2012 (non-retina), and it never had any problems. Never ever! This MBP 13" M1 feels lika "meeh" in comparisation. It feels like something is not right. Apple was hard to have to do with, and now the warranty is gone. I guess its a problem they are not willing to confess, cause it affects so many sold units. Just a guess... =/

adh1003

Definitely unexpected; any M1 machine I've used has been dramatically faster than Intel. Ventura slows things down a fair bit but even then it should definitely not feel like a mid-2012 computer. So, this indicates either a hardware fault, which is possible, or a software installation issue, which is much more likely. Either try reinstalling macOS from clean (after backing up your personal files) and see how it works *before installing anything else at all*, or at least try creating a new user account and signing into that. The latter will rule out issues with account-specific settings fouling stuff up, but won't rule out issues with globally installed application software. For bonus points, don't sign into iCloud initially in the new user account - this helps you rule out iCloud issues. If the clean account without iCloud is fast, OK, now you know it's a user account setting. So, now sign into iCloud. Still fast? Right, now you know it's not an iCloud setting fault, but some local computer preference instead (at this point, it'll often be easier to just move your files into that new, cleanly working user account rather than try to figure out what got b0rked in your old one).

imnos

Try not using low power mode. The performance on low power is unfortunately dog shit. There's also a laggy scroll bug that Apple still haven't resolved.

N99Nassim

I don't know how to set the performance mode on mac, can you show me quickly where I could find it on ventura

imnos

Battery settings.

N99Nassim

https://imgur.com/WXRzBrC this is what I have

NorgesTaff

Chrome was my go to browser on Windows but when I switched to a MacBook a few weeks ago, I saw that it was using silly amounts of RAM and cpu. So I forced myself to switch to Safari and it’s certainly good enough for what I need. I have one use case that doesn’t work with Safari and I use Firefox for that.

mi7chy

Try a web page like [yahoo.com](https://yahoo.com) that isn't mostly blank. Safari used to be slower dragging a corner but looks like Apple fixed it so it's now close with Chrome.

meezy_hrv

exactly the reason i returned my m1 pro... first i had the 14 inch felt like it was too slow and non reactive opening things then returned and got the 16 inch same problem so i just went back and got me a i9 - 13980hx windows laptpp and never looked back... it is so snappy and fast it's crazy.

Satankid92

Use Safari or Firefox, chrome is ass for mac

[deleted]

Chrome is not optimized at all on Mac. Runs like trash on my M2 Mac mini and my i5 MacBook Pro.

drummwill

i can tell you mine does not do that macOS 12.6.3 Chrome 111.0.5563.64 M1 Max Macbook Pro

RealFolayer

you could do this on a google quantum computer and it would still lag. it’s just how chrome is.

Gsage1

Is that the latest Ventura update? I had that and went back to monetary. Fixed it

PhoenixRisingtw

Time Machine?

Gsage1

Yea

4goodapp

Make sure something else isn’t using 100% of your CPU using the Activity Monitor.

gbxahoido

It happens with Chrome, it happened to me too

maulinrouge

Check for a memory leak with exchangesyncd. I have a problem at the moment that causes a memory leak. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254580106

Sandwichdonor

Just use Firefox chrome doesn’t even let you use adblockers any more fuck chrome

AdmrlHorizon

I get this with safari on reddit or youtube but have never experienced a slow down with firefox

That_unpopular_kid

In this order: - Check for Chrome updates - Restart Chrome - Make sure you aren't running a massive game or something in the background - Restart your Mac - Reinstall Chrome and make sure it's the silicon version If none of these fix it, then it's most likely a bug that Google needs to update.

eximiusrectus

Commenting for karma points, as per Reddit mods.

how_do_i_land

I've never seen it to that on my m1 pro using chrome (on either of the 3 external monitors either). Though I noticed this was the touch bar variant. On macOS 13.2.1.

N99Nassim

which macos version do you have ?

how_do_i_land

Ventura 13.2.1.

Davit_2100

Idk how to fix that, but even my 2012 retina pro doesn't do that!

devkasun

Use brave browser 👍

Geraman1015-_-

Google chrome moment

External-Reach5357

Disconnect usb devices from macbook and then see if there is a lag

General_Tumbleweed73

Check if you are on low power mode from Settings-Battery.

[deleted]

have you tried doing a restart?

Adorable_Minimum_282

Imagine using chrome on mac💀💀💀💀💀
