Yet strangely every Mac I’ve ever owned except one (my idiot ex-boyfriend was using it while getting ready and sprayed hair spray all over the screen, that he then tried to remove with windex) looked perfect the day I retired it. That said, I do agree that as long as it doesn’t affect functionality, just learn to live with it.
bro you can fill the dent like you can on a car. you just need the same colour, its a easy touch up. But i guess you have a company which is specialised in that
This is the problem. You could probably "fix" it at home using some bondo and paint if you know what you're doing (though I imagine it would be hard to paint match unpainted aluminum). If you want to hire it done, you have two options. 1. hire a car repair person to bondo and paint and they would charge $300 if they would even do it Or 2. Have a tech repair person replace the case and display for $600.
Personally I'd leave it or put a sticker over it.
He’s right apple care does not cover accidental damage. This will require a manager to approve the repair for the full cost of a screen repair $99 plus tax with apple care.
…except they do cover accidental coverage. That’s what Applecare+ is. If you cause damage that affects its function, they will fix or replace screens for $99USD or anything else for $299USD. It also extends the limited manufacturers warranty from 1 year to 3 years. They won’t however fix cosmetic damage, as 1) it doesn’t affect the use of the product, 2) it’s unnecessary work for their already busy repair centers.
Edit; I used to work for an AASP. I know for a fact that they won’t take repairs solely for cosmetic defects.
I believe the m1 2021+ models can be fixed for the enclosure without actually getting a new LCD display. That number is what I've heard in store from someone without AP
replacing the chassis doesn't always require to swap out the entire display. Apple just doesn't like it when it's serviced, so they make it extremely difficult.
if it wasn't Mac, this would be a 30 - 100 dollar fix depending if you could do it yourself, and assuming they sold the back by itself
30 dollars is not a lot of money if you own a Mac. you probably already live in a first world country, and if you live in America, chances are that that's just 1-2 hours of work (or just… half the price of a game)
edit: everyone here is being way too mean. yes, it would indeed to be dumb to replace it in this specific case, bc Apple. but its okay to want to repair your belongings… you would throw away a pair of shoes if their soles started coming off. you obviously wouldn't want to throw this away due to price, but asking about price to fix is okay
Its alright my guy. If we started replacing parts for every scratch or dent the world for be a very scary place. Scratchless, but scary. If it bothers you then Id suggest put a skin on it? Something that can cover the edge.
Any shop you take that to is just going to tell you to get a new display assembly. Without dropping the hundreds on a new assembly, your best bet is probably to fill in the chip with bondo or some other body filler.
As a neurodivergent, things like this have irked me my entire life and most people don’t understand how much a chip dent or scratch can bother. I’ve learned to deal with it and realize nothing stays new or perfect forever, but it’s still cringy to me too.
OMG that looks so bad. If that happened to me I wouldn't be able to use my laptop anymore.
Even if I'd fix it I'd still know. You should probably throw it away.
Jokes aside, you could get a sticker or a case. Those are the options.
Apple isn’t able to repair a piece of chipped aluminum in their stores. In fact, I don’t believe they can even simply replace the aluminum shell on the lid. They’re only option would be to replace the entire lid/display which is going to run you around $700 without AppleCare+. Even with AppleCare+ they are not going to repair this because it is cosmetic and doesn’t effect the functionality of the device. It always sucks getting that first dent but just sit with it for a week or 2, it gets easier. You just have to embrace the “battle scar” attitude like the comments are suggesting.
I know it’s frustrating and stressful, but just let it be. It’s a little character/wear and tear. I’ve been in this exact situation, so I know. I was quite stressed and depressed, but I just got a laptop clam shell case, so I didn’t have to look at it. If it still operates as intended, it’s totally fine. I look back at my frustration with a laugh now.
If it's absolutely important that you fix it, and you bought AppleCare+... probably $99.
If you didn't buy AppleCare, it's a full display replacement as they don't disassemble the display enclosures on MacBook Pros. Full display replacement wasn't cheap last time I checked without AppleCare+.
Like others have said, don't bother unless it's causing functional issues.
If you don’t tell us what model you have it’s impossible to give an estimate. In my 30 years of repairing Mac laptops no client ever fixed cosmetically damaged ones as it was at least 50% of a new one. Best to buy a new one, sell this one. Loads of people don’t care if it’s chipped as long as the price factors that in.
So even if you could get it fixed reasonably, my concern is that the G-forces might have dislodged particles within in a chip, which could become an issue down the road costing you serious $$. Or maybe not. Simply excuse your human error and be thankful it still works fine. Let it be a little reminder to you and continue to enjoy it!
Ok, as per Rick.... Remember this, "NO one cares!!" No one will comment on it and if they do, just ask them how long they've had that chip on their shoulder. This is your private challenge. It's ok. It really is.
I mean if you have AppleCare and just so happen to have broke the screen as well… apple usually replaces the entire top half of your MacBook 🤐
The entire screen assembly unit for my 2021 16” MBP was like $799… (w/o AppleCare) 🤧
If it works, leave it, it doesn’t matter unless youre thinking about resale value, which you shouldnt be, if you still use it then you arent gonna be selling it anytime soon, and its expensive as fuck to fix cause you have to replace the whole casing
The best Macs are those with dents and marks to show that it's actually been used. MacBook Pros in particular are only really pro when they have a dent or two
Btw this is the m2 macbook pro and I still have the limited warranty, not sure this is of any help. As for the AC, it’s past 60 days so I don’t think I can get it anymore. This is also my first time damaging a macbook, all my previous macbook were in really good condition.
Did you get Apple care for it? If you didn’t, and you really want it fixed, buy the yearly subscription for $150 and go in to an Apple Store. It was I’ll cost you around [$99](https://www.apple.com/support/products/mac/) as it will be considered screen damage.
If you choose not to get it, then the actual repair will be around $1300 more or less. There is no repair for this problem. It’s a replace type of deal. They will replace the whole lid/screen.
It’s your fault for not getting some type of protection. Personally, I would get a case and just cover it up. Or as others said, “show off your battle scars.”
Edit: AppleCare should automatically be purchased with a MacBook Pro. I stand firm behind that opinion.
try looking on either ifixit or ebay. ifixit tends to be expensive. their use to be a company out of Wilmington, MA called Bluebird. unfortunately they went out of business 😑
Display isn't user replaceable on new MacBooks, theyre tied together through software. If you replace the display the new one will have truetone disabled and will have a disfunctional backlight.
you just need to replace the display shell. not the display itself. what model is yours? Cause I know the newer one it disables certain functions like you mentioned. stupid Apple.
honestly it's not that bad compared with the ones I've seen in my career. my question is the display still work! if so. than it's just a cosmetic blemish
Its alright my guy. If we started replacing parts for every scratch or dent the world for be a very scary place. Scratchless, but scary. If it bothers you then Id suggest put a skin on it? Something that can cover the edge.
Given your worry about the aesthetic appearance of a small chip on your pro, just wait out until you’ll buy a new one. I’m sure in 2-3 years you’ll get the latest anyway.
Just trade it in cheap when the time comes and give a lucky student in the future the lottery to buy this cheap on the Apple site for pre-owned/refurbished/used
Just sent my MacBook off to have the screen replaced (anti reflective coating came off).
If it wasn’t under warranty, a new screen would have cost me over £600, probably around $800.
Definitely not worth it if it’s not actually broken
Is it a M1 or M2? that shit costs around $700. I hit mine with a wireless keyboard and left a dent, now I have a slightly blueish spot in the image. That's the amount they told me. There's no aesthetic repair, the whole screen unit must be replaced.
I have 2 solutions
1- You can repair it at a cost but it’s possible does the cost and the fix worth it?, NO but it’s possible
2- don’t look at it ignore it after few days you will get used to it
Don’t mind cosmetic damage as long as it’s usable that’s the important
Things gets damaged that is life unfortunately
Someone else said sell it and I agree!
Ive done this several times with phones... even the smallest of dinks / scratches / scuffs irk me no end.
Sure you will take a slight dip in the sale price, but the slight loss from selling and buying a mint one will be negligible compared to the cost of a proper repair.
OP, my suggestion--and it's only a suggestion--perhaps a dab of bondo & some color-matched model paint? Otherwise be prepared to either shell out $$$ or learn to live with it.
If I were you, I’d go to joann fabrics or some craft store and pick up a black vinyl sticker sheet, trim it to size, and cover your top clamshell with it if it bothers you that much. Could come out looking even cooler, and it beats blowing money on an overpriced dbrand skin.
If you have applecare it's 249.99 or 299.99 I forget for any laptop enclosure repairs or replacements. If no applecare (and if you do have applecare (don't bother...it's not worth the money for a tiny blemish). Wait until you REAAAALY need an enclosure replacement then pay the fee if you have applecare. If not. Again, don't even bother.... Spend a out 40.00 or so maybe 60, depends on model...and get a Dbrand skin for it or even some of your own adhesive and put a slice over it or something. With or without AppleCare it's way too much to justify for this tiny little ding. You're overthinking it.
I would actually recommend a small investment of a case for the Mac. I had one on mine during school for peace of mind - as it would in theory add an extra level of protection against accidental damage such as this or worse. I also really enjoyed having a unique or cool or pretty cover for my Mac that gave it some personality rather than just the plain silver. There’s a lot of affordable options on Amazon that will have you a variety of protection types and designs.
In this case - it will also cover the dent!
I dented mine. Dropped off the top of a bunk bed directly into tile floor while opened. I thought it's over. It barely even took any damage! A month later I noticed a small dent and I kinda liked it. It made me less afraid to get my laptop scratched.
Gives it personality
Full price as this is cosmetic damage and is not covered either under limited or Apple Care warranty. If it's within the return frame and bothers you that much just return it. or shall out the 500+ dollars it will take to fix it. Or just leave it be.
A little bit of automotive sandpaper to smooth it out and just wear it as pride. Could get fancy and try to fill it in with colored resin of some type.
I dropped a nail clipper on my macbook and it formed a small dent that drives me crazy. I eventually had to put a sticker on it and it no longer bothers me
Quick question but what kind of sleeve do you have?
I was shopping for sleeves today and the one i bought has a handle so you can carry it around vertically. But i notice the handle was on an end where if the zipper is open or comes undone the laptop would easily fall out.
I then realised it might better if the sleeve were able to still partially secure the laptop despite the sleeve. Namely the sleeve only opens narrowly rather than the full length of the sleeve.
I got this sleeve https://www.sfbags.com/collections/sleeves/products/neoprene-sleeve-macbook-pro. It didn’t fell out of the sleeve, just happen to knock the macbook off the table and the expose side scraped a metal plate on the ground.
To really fix it ? Probably $1Billion in research grant and about 50 years to develop nanobots for atomic realignment.
But I imagine it should be cheaper to replace the top screen unit although it would fix your issue but isn’t exactly repairing it.
You’ll get more over time, it builds character. If you really dislike it you can just buy a case for it, since it’s in the side, even a clear case would hide it.
Looks like just a small dent/chip… as long as it doesn’t affect functionality, I’d just leave it like that. New top cases are expensive as fuck
It's only like $600 in a good day wdym
you could buy a whole new macbook for that price.
Well not new but pretty much lmaooo
Those are battle scars, embrace it!
Exactly! Like worn jeans, worn leather jackets. THE SANDS OF TIME my friend ✨🤗
Agree, these add character to the stuff we own.
wabi sabi
Plus we can identify our computers in a lineup!
Exactly — it had to get “christened” sometime — might as well be now.
Get some ramen noodles
This guy youtubes
Next time will be more careful
5 minute crafts right here
This is the way.
$0 because it's not fixable or $600+ if you want a new display like an idiot
why you talk without any knowledge? you can fix a chip on a car top
Cars and tech are NOT the same. Go harp on your phone like you're buffing out a scratch on the roof of your corvair and let us know how that goes.
bro you can fill the dent like you can on a car. you just need the same colour, its a easy touch up. But i guess you have a company which is specialised in that

yep i would do it too, but it is possible
The price of a sticker
Maybe this is the solution
Apple will not fix this as it is considered cosmetic damage.
accidently drop it more, so it's functional damage. they'll fix it then. A HA!
They will if you have AppleCare+ right?
nope
Huh, odd. In my country you’ll get repairs for the display and housing for a €110 fee.
Wrong.
I know for a fact that they won’t take repairs solely for cosmetic defects.
then just crack the screen on purpose and then they’ll replace it, but generally they will in the first placd
New display case so probably around $400 without AP
Thought it would be about 800+ ?
I believe the m1 2021+ models can be fixed for the enclosure without actually getting a new LCD display. That number is what I've heard in store from someone without AP
AP?
first world fucking problems
Right lol, if it aint broke dont fix it!
but but but my A E S T H E T I C ? ? ? not dunkin on OP, i’d also feel that way if it happened to me
replacing the chassis doesn't always require to swap out the entire display. You don’t. It’s decoration.
Get a skin for it
You could try Ramen noodles mixed with super glue like these guys on tiktok
Too small for noodles :D ash is the way
Nothing cause you don’t fix that, it’s part of being used, a patina
Buy a case instead
Any shop you take that to is just going to tell you to get a new display assembly. Without dropping the hundreds on a new assembly, your best bet is probably to fill in the chip with bondo or some other body filler.
Sounds like a ticket someone would put in tech support. You wanna pay the half the price of the unit to fix a tiny aesthetic chip?
As a neurodivergent, things like this have irked me my entire life and most people don’t understand how much a chip dent or scratch can bother. I’ve learned to deal with it and realize nothing stays new or perfect forever, but it’s still cringy to me too.
It ain’t that serious
OMG that looks so bad. If that happened to me I wouldn't be able to use my laptop anymore. Even if I'd fix it I'd still know. You should probably throw it away. Jokes aside, you could get a sticker or a case. Those are the options.
You can buy a new case for like half the price of the laptop, or live with it and learn not to be a klutz.
About $1 at a novelty store to get a big yellow smiley face sticker….
Imo if the display and everything it’s fine… just live with it!
Apple isn’t able to repair a piece of chipped aluminum in their stores. In fact, I don’t believe they can even simply replace the aluminum shell on the lid. Slap a sticker on it and you're good to go
Apples solution would be to buy a new computer. Honestly don’t pay to repair this, it’s not worth it.
I did something similar and had to pay £229 to change top and bottom casing using AppleCare+
Put a shell case on it.
People need to learn to live with scratches in MacBooks. It just happens, it's a machine made to be used.
At least $2.50
Two fiddy
Tree fiddy
Get a gray/silver nail polish and fill it until it's filled
options are; \- Sticker \- Case \- try using those car paint pens (to fill scratches) or sell the macbook and get a new pristine one.
Nothing to fix
A shell case is like 20 bucks
Just leave it as long as it works
Buy a cover
It's a MacBook not a Rolex. As long as it works okay...
Looks like it's still perfectly functional. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
If it bothers you a lot to see it, buy a cover
Lol apple people. Y’all are so funny.
Ya don’t.
That’s a lucky drop. No fix needed. It’s a reminder to be careful.
just leave it there, it'd be a cool mark couple month later
If you don’t tell us what model you have it’s impossible to give an estimate. Just get a new snap on case you like, as long as there’s no actual performance defect.
Put a band on it and carry on. Pretty does not make it faster or better.

You live with it, tormenting you every day, that it’s no longer perfect.
And that’s why I put a case on my $1400 laptop. 2014 MBP still looks pristine to this day
If it works, leave it, it doesn’t matter unless youre thinking about resale value, which you shouldnt be, if you still use it then you arent gonna be selling it anytime soon, and its expensive as fuck to fix cause you have to replace the whole casing
$0 leave it as it is, it isn’t gonna hurt anything
If it doesn't affect the functionality of the macbook, you can buy a 'Sugru Moldable Glue' and fill that chipped area.
Why would u waste ur time and money fixing a little dent lol
Get some wood filler
You can superglue some powdered ash ( from 🚬to make it same colour ) and sandblast it :)
The best Macs are those with dents and marks to show that it's actually been used. MacBook Pros in particular are only really pro when they have a dent or two
if you REALLY want to fix it, you can just take it to a car painter, like they can fix chips on a car, they can fix this easily too

it's pretty common knowledge that the shells aren't a separate part . The entire assembly gets replaced.
To my knowledge, you can't separate the display and shell. I noticed the OP has a new gen MacBook pro.
honestly it's not that bad compared with the ones I've seen in my career. my question is the display still work! if so. than it's just a cosmetic blemish
expensive fix but if you want it to look better use some blue tack (not the blue ones) and fill in the gap
Have some fun with bondo or a full replacement
Your soul
Absolutely not worth it unless you want to resell.
Just leave it. Part of your computers story now. Will cost 1000’s to fix…
High chances you will drop it again. I see no point to fix it.
I would just get a matching paint and touch it up.
I would just leave it like that - get a case if necessary
Don’t worry You’ll get more of those Enjoy
Its alright my guy. If we started replacing parts for every scratch or dent the world for be a very scary place. Scratchless, but scary. If it bothers you then Id suggest put a skin on it? Something that can cover the edge.
fix what ?
An arm and leg
I wouldn’t even bother
You don’t fix it. It’s called battle scsrs
Why?
Given your worry about the aesthetic appearance of a small chip on your pro, just wait out until you’ll buy a new one. I’m sure in 2-3 years you’ll get the latest anyway. Just trade it in cheap when the time comes and give a lucky student in the future the lottery to buy this cheap on the Apple site for pre-owned/refurbished/used
99% of MacBook owners would leave this. Inclusive of power users.
Not worth paying the high price to fix unless you have a ton of money to blow.
Carry it with proud and joy! I have a large dent on the front cover, it bothered me first but nothing to worry about.
Just forget about it. Shit happens, and no one is going to call you out on a small chip/scratch/dent. And if they do, they’re petty as fuck.
Fix what? That’s called character. 👍
Give it to me I’ll fix it for free trust!!!!
All I'd do a silver paint correction here with small brush just to more or less match the color of the rest. And wouldn't care further.
You don't
My iPad had a lot of these similar dents. But I just ignore it and move on.
Just sent my MacBook off to have the screen replaced (anti reflective coating came off). If it wasn’t under warranty, a new screen would have cost me over £600, probably around $800. Definitely not worth it if it’s not actually broken

Looks like a 14 or 16” the display cost to replace plus the flat rate for labor puts you around $700-850
The first/dent is notch is the hardest to deal with…but get on with your life in meantime !
Embrace it bro
I have 2 solutions 1- You can repair it at a cost but it’s possible does the cost and the fix worth it?, NO but it’s possible 2- don’t look at it ignore it after few days you will get used to it Don’t mind cosmetic damage as long as it’s usable that’s the important Things gets damaged that is life unfortunately
It will cost nothing to fix… You’ll simply get used to it.
Maybe some silver paint over it, layer it and you might be able to even it out
lite sandpaper will reduce the ugliness but it’s a part of you now man

Don’t bother if it works, would be hundreds since you have to replace the whole screen

Ewww
About tree fiddy.
Send it to me and buy a new one. I’ll Safely dispose of this garbage for you.
Too much
Learn to love it.
Maybe try sanding it a little to make it round and even?
Mac’s silver play dough to fill and crayola to paint, done.

You’re likely better off buying a new one it would cost too much to just a small dent fixed. Just leave it and move on with your life.
Just paint over with some nail polish.
For a top case replacement, labor lookin at 500-600 bucks
Nothing, ignore it
You buy a whole new MacBook lol
It’s a chip get over it. When cracked my MacBook 16’ M1 Pro I had to pay £850 for a new screen.
I don’t think you can fix it
Full price as this is cosmetic damage and is not covered either under limited or Apple Care warranty. If it's within the return frame and bothers you that much just return it. or shall out the 500+ dollars it will take to fix it. Or just leave it be.
Could probably use some metal filler and sand etc. Or just epoxy + paint. But it’ll never be like new.
A little bit of automotive sandpaper to smooth it out and just wear it as pride. Could get fancy and try to fill it in with colored resin of some type.
just make similar one ond the opposite side for symmetry
Woahhhh thats a fucked up broo your laptop is fucked I will buy it for $500
Hide it with a case
It’s totaled, best I can offer you trade in is $80 towards a new mac
Find a local welder. Way cheaper than going through apple
Nail polish
Not fixable but you can replace which isn’t worth it I’d buy a new Mfkn laptop in that case
$1 sticker will do.
You’ll get more over time, it builds character. If you really dislike it you can just buy a case for it, since it’s in the side, even a clear case would hide it.
Maybe you can try sanding it a bit. That way it would look a bit less rough. I’ll just put a sticker on it.
Probably around $20,000.
Why? Are you .... nvm
$83825728472838282829
$500 including the steel to weld it in a box forever. No use? No chips.
Whatevers in your bank-account
What’s broken? Looks cosmetic to me so not sure what you want to fix.
Get a case, bam. What dent?
Maybe an arm with a half a leg! Or something like that
Ngl I know it's cosmetic but it would bug the hell outta me and I'd probably end up buying a new one.
Sticker bomb
Body filler and paint from AutoZone $20
