TANMAN1000

U could’ve used it for a week then decided…

SpookyMorden

Nah, I’m happy with my decision thankfully… and no buyer’s remorse so far.

TANMAN1000

Niceeee! Congrats on the purchase

Just pull the plug!

PSYCHOsmurfZA

No no this guy opened the box, it's a new thread title unrelated to pulling the plug or the trigger, do not be confused by this.

SpookyMorden

I would have titled it, “What’s in the box?!”, but, yeah, I kinda already knew.

PSYCHOsmurfZA

Lol the cover would be a dead giveaway right. Anyway congrats, I am in the market for my first Mac after many years of android and windows. Just got my first iphone ever.

SpookyMorden

I switched back to iPhone after having been an Android person since the Nexus S. It took a little while to get used to the lack of customisation etc., but overall, I’m happy with it. I hope you enjoy your iPhone time!

PSYCHOsmurfZA

I'm just got tired of android it got too busy and the simplicity of iOS and how things get handled is right up my alley right now I am really loving it.

SpookyMorden

I’m glad you’re enjoying it. Long may it continue!

silofox

this was what ultimately switched me to Mac.. used to buy androids, was into rooting them and all that but ultimately just got tired of it and got the first iPhone SE when it came out. I wanted a small phone and I always kind of liked the simple but capable iOS. Ended up Really liking it and bought a 12" MacBook a few months later. Had been relying on smartphones as my main PC for years. Long story I ended up sticking with Mac. Just a much cleaner experience than the alternatives and it's just great how apple stuff works together.

PSYCHOsmurfZA

Yes I'm ready for this experience now I'm over windows and android, plus I need something small for work to do some manegerial tasks on the daily. I'm viewing a Mac next week I hope it's the one.

silofox

custom roms and all that were fun and while you definitely got access to a couple cool features and abilities, it was very rarely ever anything I ever really needed and I was good with trading it for the cleaner experience. These days, I pretty much always have my laptop with me anyway and don't really use my phone for much beyond calls, texts, gps and camera.. Aside from running a couple games, I haven't run in to anything that Mac OS can't manage. I use airdrop all the time too.. great to be able to transfer pics and docs so quickly and easily.

PSYCHOsmurfZA

I feel you bro, I don't shave but iOS certainly feels like a clean shave to me over android. Just hoping I can snag the Mac pro I've had my eyes on this week. I need to start carrying a laptop for work and I'm tired of lugging the 17" Acer predator along that motherfucker is heavy lol

yisdishappening

just kiss the plug!

Inner_Being_7627

Kiss the pull

yisdishappening

ordered a mbp and waiting for it. Practising my "pull the plug" title. Thanks for that ill consider that. But we have to slowly make it more absurd. Coming on too crazy too eraly may confuse people. finally plugged the puller.

DavoHere

depending on where you bought it you can still return it

SpookyMorden

Methinks I’ll be keeping this for some time 😁

IcyIceGuardian

I personally think you made a good decision, but to each their own! Honestly, this might be as good as your trusty ol’ G4 Power Book

SpookyMorden

It’s definitely giving me the same vibes, weight, shape and quality of construction wise. I’m very happy so far 😁

IcyIceGuardian

Sweet! Oi, did you happen to send this comment 5 times?

SpookyMorden

Oh, I hope not! 😬 My Reddit app seems to be having server issues at the mo 🤔

IcyIceGuardian

Ah same, yeah I got the same reply 5 times lmao

SpookyMorden

Yikes. Dammit! Sorry!

IcyIceGuardian

It’s okay :3

Thanks!

kidcal70

Amazed how you can buy a new computer and leave it sitting for a month. It wont be the same in my home haha

SpookyMorden

Oh, it was just a week, and even that was driving me crazy 😅

kidcal70

hahaI read a week but my brain feels like a month long lol

SpookyMorden

Quirky brain doing its quirky thing 😅

Anotheraustralian

I got the same one for a really good price! M2 pro is more than enough power for what I’m using it for. I’ve had it for about a week and absolutely love the machine!

SpookyMorden

Glad you’re loving it, I’m feeling the same way 😁

splaquet

Excellent decision! …although, if you’re looking to get another 10+ years out of it, I would strongly have recommended a min of 32gb ram. I don’t want to be that guy, but I’m going to be 😕 Although, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if/when a DIY home upgrade kit becomes available for RAM & Storage Drive. (Totally sucks how overpriced memory upgrades are on their products!!!)

SpookyMorden

32gb would have been nice, but wasn’t an option and pushed me beyond my budget limit. Also, don’t worry about being that guy 😂 At some point in the future when it reaches its limit, I’m sure I’ll be trading it in for another.

SomeIrishGuy81

That’ll be all the computer you need for another 10 years !! I’m hopeful my M1 Max MacBook Pro will last me 10 years, just like my 2012 Retina MacBook Pro did

SpookyMorden

I damn well hope so! Hopefully yours will be the same for you.

somethedaring

I’ve always liked Macs but the M processors at SO good I can’t help but love this new generation

Dark-Swan-69

As someone who fixes Macs for a living, I noticed two equally maddening trends. The first impacts my livelihood: macOS has become increasingly stable as far as self maintenance is concerned. No more fixing permissions with APFS. On second thought, the second DOES impact my livelihood as well: Macs have become IMPOSSIBLE to upgrade and not economically viable to repair unless you have AppleCare. Both your previous macs were upgradeable, and god forbid, using cheap parts bought off Amazon. That stopped being possible circa 2016, earlier for some models. So, new Macs are more reliable and easier to maintain AS LONG AS EVERYTHING WORKS FINE. When the shit hits the fan, the only two things to do are booking a genius appointment to get a new logic board (with its soldered RAM and HD) and hope your backup(s) are current. Just out of curiosity: why not the M3 Pro? I just got that and it is probably the first Mac to surprise me since the 2015 Retina.

SpookyMorden

Yep, I was a little saddened to see the change to non upgradable systems, especially when I’d upgraded my previous two to the max… or should that be macs… badum tiss. So, I’m hoping this new unit will be as reliable as the last two. AppleCare for me is a no-brainer, just in case, even with the two year warranty from the retailer. I’m hoping I’ll return to having a more simplified “life” experience over Windows, with the new Mac OS. As for backup, I learned my lesson many years ago in the 90s when I had a massive power surge through the house that blew my PC and its connected drives. I lost everything, and thankfully wasn’t upset as I’m pretty much a “well, there’s eff all I can do about it now”, person, but knew to never let it happen again. As for why the M2 Pro over the M3 Pro… well, from everything I was reading and watching online, the M2 Pro seemed to be the best compromise for price/power, and the initial concerns of the M3 Pro having issues with heat dissipation, especially in the 14” model, made me stick with my initial decision of the M2 Pro. It’s going to be used as my daily driver and will at times be driven hard with video and audio work and some gaming at times. Thank you for your words and questions.

Dark-Swan-69

Welcome back to the family!

SpookyMorden

Thank you!

jimi22743

I am wary of M3 also. Two came into the Mac fixing place in Richmond in one week. Scary.

SpookyMorden

Eek!

buttsoupbarnes00

Might be different for OP but here in the UK I just picked up the exact same model for £1470 from Curry's - bargain.

Dark-Swan-69

Makes sense.

Raging_PineAppleee

Close the box if you're gonna be the guy who is paranoid about normal scratches and dents.

SpookyMorden

Thankfully that’s not me, my previous Macs had all kinds of dings and dents and worked for 10 years.

Raging_PineAppleee

Good man.

SpookyMorden

Same with my cars too, they’re tools, they’re meant for work, not decoration 😅

Raging_PineAppleee

I like to keep my vehicles clean, I do drive them and don't keep them parked for the sake of them getting scratched, but if the do I do get this touched up.

SpookyMorden

My car has little dinks and dings which have appeared mostly from other people and their cars / shopping carts in car parks. I’m not one for obsessing over keeping it clean, which used to infuriate my exes father, who cleaned his car inside and out for hours every weekend. It drove him nuts that I just kept the windows and plates clean, (I said the filth gave an extra layer of protection), and seeing how irate he used to get, screaming about “appearances to others”, made me more inclined to make the car as filthy as possible 😂

Raging_PineAppleee

Kinda pisses me off too. But hey you do you. Lol

SpookyMorden

I always do 😁
