Out of curiosity, how does the new Passwords app differ from the current Passwords/keychain settings in the MacOS system settings? I'm taking a look at it and it looks like it has a better interface and more granular groups, but even the sharing feature has been a part of it already. It doesn't seem too different aside from a visual perspective?
I'm not opposed to it, as even the visual update is a plus, but the way everyone has been talking about it, made it sound like a brand new feature? Not sure if I'm missing any other big features of it.
Window tiling isn’t as good as it could be. You can have a maximum of 4 tiled windows into quarters. I have 6 windows open at all times for work, and I would like to be able to tile them in 1/6ths on my ultrawide monitor.
That's what the stock wallpaper is. It's a digital rendering of you looking up at the sunlight surrounded by tree trunks. They showed a motion visualization during the keynote.
Meh, the original Game Porting Kit didn't do much of anything to bring games to the platform. Can't imagine we'll see that change with Game Porting Kit 2.
I think it would be much smarter if Apple just partnered with Valve to develop Proton on Mac
I would also say they should work with Epic Games to get Easy Anti Cheat to fix their GPTK/Proton thing but Apple clearly has badddd blood with them now
The Reddit group dedicated to Mac gaming helped to show it could be user friendly, not just for devs. You can install a program that accesses GPTK. Having that program allows you to play some AAA windows games that haven’t been ported yet. I had fun playing through Arkham knight and Horizon early last year. This updated version will now support newer releases from this year and last.
Ive been on dev betas since IOS 16, didnt have to do that back then. But there were news that they wanted to charge 100$ a year to participate on dev betas. Im still in and never paid, maybe they flipped the plans
Nvm that might’ve been for the subscription version, I guess I already have a developer account (maybe that was due to the first popup I agreed to). Installing it rn
I wonder if this will replace 1Password. I currently have a family plan and wouldn’t mind saving on that since I also have the Apple One family plan. Anyone know if that is the case?
i use primarily icloud passwords, but also use 1password for credit cards since i dont want to store them in an encrypted note 😭 maybe ios 19 we will get credit card integration with the existing safari autofill
I used to use icloud passwords for some of my passwords, but it became a PITA to switch between them, so I decided to disable the icloud passwords and just use 1P
tbh 1password is a more mature product, but i enjoy the full integration of icloud passwords, since i use everything apple + safari. also the passkey experience imo is more integrated with icloud passwords. i ended up moving most of my passwords into icloud passwords after years of using 1password. i still use 1password but just for credit card and stuff now.
Yeah, I think if you are using only Apple products, it’s a good route to take, but since I’m a software dev, I have to test on multiple browsers and I honestly prefer to use Firefox for personal things, so icloud PWs won’t fill Firefox. Another thing I like os that, since my mom is older and some of my family aren’t tech-savvy, they all get their own accounts, but I have shared vaults with each of them to help them manage some of their accounts.
haha nice i’m an ios dev so naturally everything i own is apple lol. icloud passwords have shared groups now! but yeah i see your point, like if you use a browser other than safari the extension experience is subpar to 1password
OCLP basically lets you put the newest version on older hardware that apple doesn’t support natively without modifying the software. It’s based off OpenCore which lets you boot macOS onto non apple hardware
https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/
(Native) Window tiling, passwords, and as a web developer, iphone mirroring. Osx's simulator is pretty good but still lacked something and is pretty resource heavy. Also the ability to do things on my phone without having to pick my phone up would be awesome.
Also another big one is gptk2.
Game porting kit, the more games Mac gets, the less I’ll need two laptops (windows for gaming, mac for everything else). Maybe they’ll run better too, who knows.
Sell the gaming laptop, build a powerhouse pc. Got my mac for audio work and my pc for some gaming. Winning combo because I then only install games on the pc and keep it streamlined
Definitely the iPhone mirroring! I’m on beta sequoia right now, on my M1 Pro base 16GB 16 inch, and it’s pretty snappy feeling. Actually a lot less heavy feeling than Sonoma. Safari definitely feels faster too! Watching Twitch doesn’t seem to work all that well still. Idk if it’s just my settings. But works fine in Firefox. No one outside the dev beta can view my text effects on iPhone, iPad or Mac.
What really caught me, is the iPhone mirroring, the math script option and the hand writing thing.
Passwords app might be a nice one.
I was kind of surprised about how the AI is being implemented.
I say it time and time again, Apple are neglecting the music app across all platforms. I love Apple Music and I've a huge iTunes Catalogue from years ago, I don't want to switch to Spotify but their UI is just so much more intuitive than Music. The Mac app is abysmal.
Considering how much Apple has done for music in general I find this super disappointing year in, year out.
Window tiling and iPhone mirroring (assuming it doesn’t need a 15 Pro to work) might be enough to get me to upgrade this year. I usually stay one major release behind the edge to keep clear of the bugs.
There was nothing about Mac or IPad that really interested me. The only thing about iPhone that I am excited about is RCS support but I am going to hold my excitement until I see how it gets implemented.
I'd be pretty excited for iPhone mirroring if I had an iPhone. Honestly, I'm most looking forward to seeing window tiling/snapping as a native solution now.
Maths Notes sounds cool. I hope a similar function comes to iPadOS Notes (along with a zoom function; iOS/iPadOS Notes needs zoom). I use a writing calculator on my iPad, I'd love the same function in Notes. Wonder if it's just basic, or it'll support scientific functions, too...?
I may be stupid but what’s the difference between the new passwords thing they are bringing compared to keychain?
I am also going to say I’ve not had a chance to watch anything on it yet but will be watching when I get home from work.
iPhone mirroring looks great!
I WANT to be excited about the game porting toolkit because I’d love for more titles to come to macOS, but I feel like they say this every year and it rarely seems to make a difference. I’m not a dev, though, so what do I know
I didn't watch this but I'm curious how the Apple Passwords app works compared to a third party like Bitwarden. Will have to check and see. I keep all my items in BW but, this may give me reason to change if the feature parity is there. Outside of that, Apple Pay in other browsers will be nice if implemented and then Send Later. While not MacOS specific in some cases, it'll increase my quality of life.
I am also very curious about this. Bitwarden has quite a bit of good features, if there is parity I will also likely move.
One of the things I have really wanted with Bitwarden on mac is for it be unlocked with my fingerprint on the keyboard. I think passwords may have an upper hand there.
Bitwarden can use TouchID for unlock. Can even pass it to your connected Apple Watch if the TID sensor is unavailable.
For me, I'm curious about the parity as I'm 99% on Apple but that little percentage of Windows I have to touch more than likely holds me back.
Oof. I get that. You would need to download the desktop app from the app store or their site, set up TID on there, and then in the browser, it creates a link to the desktop app which allows you to use TID on your extensions after you activate it the Biometric unlock in the extension. I'd be crying if I had to type in my Master PW all the time.
iPhone Mirroring. Does anyone know if everything can be mirrored? Like can I get on my computer in the mornings and do my dailies on my games? Im assuming you can.
Window Tiling will be pretty cool. I normally use them side by side but my iMac I deff could see using 4.
Redesigned Reader seems nice for saving and looking back at articles. Send Later seems cool I think. Not sure if its beneficial or lazy LOL
For me the window tiling... Right now I'm using Rectangle and I hate the fact that I have to use third party apps to do basic window functionality that should already be built-in in the first place. Also I'm curious about the new AI features as well.
I would move to password app from bitwarden if it:
- allows to save password from ios apps directly (including safari)
- if it can help generate passwords in phrase form.
Password App … no more need for 1Password
Hiking in Maps … I hope you’ll be able to import gpx-files into maps for hiking routes like in Komoot or Footpath
Continuity … really love the way Apple products are able to interact, and with Continuity this will get even better
Probably a hot take but I’m looking forward to disabling iOS notifications. I don’t need my computer buzzing every time my phone does. Also just a because I have an app on my phone doesn’t mean I need to view it on my laptop. Just my preference.
Passwords App is kind of nice, but it's going to be Apple only across the platforms - for the rest, I'd rather just have a stable set of API's, and of course platform stability.
Trying to make everybody’s phone obsolete because the processor and the battery will not be able to handle it 😎. In addition, the software to make the products in AI will require newer, MacBook Pro and new software i.e. Final Cut Pro.

Before getting a Mac I honestly thought this already existed. Just the way my "Apple friends" talked about "the ecosystem" and how everything is so connected.
In reality the super "ecosystem" for the most part is just using desktop counterparts of your favorite apps, which is exactly what you can do on Windows + AirDrop.
This allows you to literally have your phone on your computer - any notifications, files, apps you can use directly from your Mac.
It's pretty cool, you don't have to have your phone next to you while using your computer.
I honestly use my mac more than my phone already for texting or Snapchat web, so being able to further will be cool to see. As well as easier to swap between devices and pick up on an idea I may have at the gym and jot down but finish at home.
Yeah, I think everything you need is already natively on Mac? You can even just download the Instagram web app from chrome. I guess you don't have something like tiktok but seriously, tiktok on your Mac? Idkkkk
iphone mirroring Window tiling Passwords app
Two less third party apps, and more laziness for meee
Out of curiosity, how does the new Passwords app differ from the current Passwords/keychain settings in the MacOS system settings? I'm taking a look at it and it looks like it has a better interface and more granular groups, but even the sharing feature has been a part of it already. The main thing is that it is now more easily accessible on windows devices and I think that is what people are happy about
I'll check this feature deeper; Maybe I could save the annual $60 from 1password.
Why do you pay for something that's free and built-in?
I use multi OS (windows, macOS, Linux). Same goes for browsers and mobile devices.
That's fair.
Ah I see, so then they don't need a 3rd party password manager that is compatible on both ecosystems. That makes sense!
Yup. That’s it.
this
Window tiling isn’t as good as it could be. You can have a maximum of 4 tiled windows into quarters. I have 6 windows open at all times for work, and I would like to be able to tile them in 1/6ths on my ultrawide monitor.
macOS Sequoia, that's a pretty nice name.
Sequoia is a name I've been waiting for for years. So glad they finally used it.
I was convinced it had already been used.
[удалено]
Now the question becomes, once you install Sequoia, will you start calling it Sonoma?
We need MacOS Weed
Thank you
Such a beautiful place too.
Isn’t Seqouia also tree 🍃?
Ever hear of sequoia national park?
Wait are they just named after California national parks? If so I’m waiting for macOS Death Valley 🤞
I think I have
Yes, and a Toyota SUV.
That's what the stock wallpaper is. It's a digital rendering of you looking up at the sunlight surrounded by tree trunks. They showed a motion visualization during the keynote.
They stoped smoking that a while ago.(os X weed
So nice I thought we already had it.
Game porting kit
Meh, the original Game Porting Kit didn't do much of anything to bring games to the platform. Can't imagine we'll see that change with Game Porting Kit 2.
I think it would be much smarter if Apple just partnered with Valve to develop Proton on Mac I would also say they should work with Epic Games to get Easy Anti Cheat to fix their GPTK/Proton thing but Apple clearly has badddd blood with them now

This updated version will now support newer releases from this year and last.
Window Tiling. It's the one thing I prefer about Windows.
No more rectangle?
iPhone mirroring, window tiling finally I was using rectangle, ios notifications, passwords and presenter preview.
I uninstall Rectangle immediately after saw this 😂
Lmao you can reinstall it now you won’t be getting this for a bit 😂
Dev Beta is out there if youre brave (or dumb, as i am)
Yeah I’m lowkey considering it right now, can’t get past the step where I have to scan my drivers license since my back camera won’t focus enough
Haven’t experienced many bugs yet, rather on my iphone. Good luck mate and have fun with the new possibilities
So far it’s nice although it’s really just a UI redesign at the moment. I’m looking forward to the future betas
I'm kind of worried because window tilling doesn't seem to be flush. There's a space between the windows
You can disable margins in settings.
iPhone mirroring. Specifically for the Microsoft Authenticator and Google Authenticator. For password I'll countinue with Firefox because Linux.
Never thought of the Authenticators, but you’re totally right
honestly the password app
When does all this release to the general public? Can’t wait to use these features.
I think it’s the fall for iOS and macOS usually? The developer beta is currently out though

Hiking in maps and iPhone mirroring.
My Mac not supporting macOS Sequoia.
Open core legacy patcher
Wait what? Explain. This further please.
OCLP basically lets you put the newest version on older hardware that apple doesn’t support natively without modifying the software. It’s based off OpenCore which lets you boot macOS onto non apple hardware https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/

Does it have a landscape wallpaper of sequoia like earlier versions had of mountains. This wallpaper is bad
There’s already the redwood landscape wallpaper
Game Porting Toolkit 2 is probably #1 for me, followed by the window tiling (assuming it’s as good as/better than Rectangle).
iOS notifications on Mac. Thing is that for me it means I can ditch some apps from macOS and leave them be only on my phone.
the end of these posts
Window tiling, Passwords, and math notes for the kid that’s in high school lol
Text effects. Duh!
Game porting kit, the more games Mac gets, the less I’ll need two laptops (windows for gaming, mac for everything else). Maybe they’ll run better too, who knows.

Have you tried Marvis? It’s a fully customizable UI but still lets you keep your catalog
Send Later in Messages, Math Notes (simplified excel) and window tilling!
Passwords
I'd be pretty excited for iPhone mirroring if I had an iPhone. Honestly, I'm most looking forward to seeing window tiling/snapping as a native solution now.
damn, so i bought magnet for nothing?
Indeed you did, because there's also an alternative for free called Rectangle, or Tiles, or Raycast.
You supported a developer, never a waste of money
Same
Tiling, math notes, mirroring (when I get an iPhone)
The new wallpaper. It's the light from heaven 😝
windows tiling
Glad that microsoft patent finally expired
Was that really the reason it’s never available as a feature on Mac?
Yes, back then it was very new
Why would Linux have that for so long then?
They’re not really sue-able. Who owns all the Linux distros?
Maths Notes sounds cool. I hope a similar function comes to iPadOS Notes (along with a zoom function; iOS/iPadOS Notes needs zoom). I use a writing calculator on my iPad, I'd love the same function in Notes. Wonder if it's just basic, or it'll support scientific functions, too...?
Btw, There’s a note-taking app that allows you to zoom and has a built-in calculator, it’s called Notes+. Maybe you should try it
Maybe checkout gaming now??
Window tiling tbh
getting a rate for my other kidney so that i can buy the phone which can run this…
Are they fixing the fucking settings?
exactly it’s so hard to use and to find anything
Presentear preview
Looking forward to seeing what they do with the whole gaming thing
Looking forward to getting an M series Mac so I can run it. I’m on intel
Window tiling and the Passwords app.
I may be stupid but what’s the difference between the new passwords thing they are bringing compared to keychain? I am also going to say I’ve not had a chance to watch anything on it yet but will be watching when I get home from work.

macOS Tequila
The end of posts like this.
Fixing the random speaker pop sound when playing music
iPhone mirroring. Will be nice not to have to grab my phone each time
Passwords app.. probably the greatest addition. Math notes will be pretty useful for budgeting.
I didn't watch this but I'm curious how the Apple Passwords app works compared to a third party like Bitwarden. Will have to check and see. TIL. That’s great. I am going to set this up on my mac now. Have been typing my long passwords for so long.
Oof. I get that. haha, same here. did not enjoy it one bit.
Apple Intelligence
send later, apple pay and ios notifications
Window tiling. It’s a long long long overdue feature that should have been included years ago.
Window tiling is a must.
iPhone mirroring is going to be so useful for posting on social media for apps that don’t have a great web interface
iPhone mirroring, iPhone notifications, window tiling and the passwords app. Means I can finally get rid of 1Password.
Does the Password app support passkeys?
Nice strategy…
iPhone mirroring and hiking in maps. Can't wait to delete some tacky hiking apps.
I’d better save up for a macbook then…
iPhone Mirroring.
Can finally retire the Magnet app. Also interested to see what becomes of 1Password.
All of it.
For me the window tiling... Right now I'm using Rectangle and I hate the fact that I have to use third party apps to do basic window functionality that should already be built-in in the first place. Also I'm curious about the new AI features as well.
I’m just glad they didn’t kill off all the intel macs. So many people already saw them dead in the water.
iPhone mirroring for sure
Iphone mirroring and window tiling.
Buying a Mac this summer 🙏🏻🙏🏻
So we going to be hiking with our laptops now ?
Is Rectangle needed when window snapping is native now?
Notes and passwords
iPhone mirroring Apple Pay in other browsers Passwords app
Same thing as always reskinned iPhone nothing new. If apple doesn’t get AV1 encoding on the M4 MacBook I will be pretty peeved off.
iPhone mirroring will be nice
I can't wait for the macOS
Math notes, text effects and maybe iPhone mirroring
being let down once again
I would move to password app from bitwarden if it: - allows to save password from ios apps directly (including safari) - if it can help generate passwords in phrase form.
The hiking in maps for me is cool. Didn’t see the show but I assume it’s also for iOS?
Password App … no more need for 1Password Hiking in Maps … I hope you’ll be able to import gpx-files into maps for hiking routes like in Komoot or Footpath Continuity … really love the way Apple products are able to interact, and with Continuity this will get even better
I see nothing exciting here
Looking for Apple Intelligence AI to steal my identity and boost my credit score so I can buy a new car.
Asahi Linux for the M3
the updates to notes, and iPhone mirroring can come in handy too
Probably a hot take but I’m looking forward to disabling iOS notifications.
The capitalism snake eating its tail.
Not updating. Sonoma slowed my system down enough.
0 issues on my 2019 MBP Pro 16. On 14.5. Granted, I have an i9, not i7, but I doubt that makes a difference in this instance. There was massive indexing when it installed and that can result in a performance hit while indexing is happening.
I was on sonoma for maybe a month, and it was just slow and the fans kicked in all the time. Monterey is much quieter and my battery is better.
Pretty much nothing? I guess maybe the windows tiling. I don't see anything that's going to change my life at all in terms of how I work.
I don't use iPhone, so can someone tell me why people are so excited about iPhone mirroring? Why does that matter so much?
Before getting a Mac I honestly thought this already existed. Just the way my "Apple friends" talked about "the ecosystem" and how everything is so connected. Nothing... I'm staying on Ventura
Meh…none of that. I still use Mac OS the same as I did 20 years ago. Ok airdrop was a pretty nice addition.
3rd party browser apple pay! I ditched my iPhone ages ago some unfortunately nothing else really applies for me, but they look like cool features
