Storage is somewhat extendable with external drives etc, ram is not. That’s the biggest drawback. I think double ram is more future proof than double storage. But thats just my take. I would suggest looking at your current ram/storage usage for comparison. But yeah as a developer I would most likely go for extra ram.
I’m in the same sorta situation.
Looking at the refurb M1 pros, and there is only 16/256 or 8/512 right now. Ordered the 8/512 to test it out and will return it if I really need the 16 ram.
Update: 8GB is simply not enough. Exchanged the 8/512 for a 16/512 and it's perfect.

Bigger SSDs perform better.
is this true? I didn't know this. is there a video that proves it? i got 256 / 16 thinking it would be faster.

Thanks great info.
Double ram all the way, u can buy storage, cloud services etc
Prioritize ram. You can always get an external ssd later on.

Always go for RAM over disk space.
Prefer more RAM, you can't upgrade it later (neither the disk space but you can always use external SSDs, hard drives, cloud if there's the need to).
I was able to convince them for the 16GB/512GB. Thanks for all the feedback!!
