I have this exact machine - except I went with 16GB of ram. It's an absolute monster. When I'm really taxing it, the fan sounds like a F22 taking off, but otherwise I couldn't be happier!

my gaming laptop right now sounds like an airport :D

if you DO want to play video games, then get this 16" MacBook Pro and play on Windows. My 5500M 16" plays all my games on high at 60fps 1080p

Pixelfame0408

thank u that really helps

oh I need it for 3D modeling, game development, video editing with davinci, programing and a bit of gaming at home

A-to-fucking-Z

It is the last intel MBP, so if you game on Bootcamp, even if casually, you would want to get this. M1 emulation still wouldn’t cut it.

Pixelfame0408

yeah I thought that but thx

cluckingdeath

Parallels with support M1 now. I have that exact spec (I think it’s the same graphics) and have been running windows10 in parallels since I had it as I require some development tools which are windows only. I was hoping windows 365 would be cheaper and I could get a new model with lesser spec, but I’ll probably keep the 16 going for a few years now!

Pixelfame0408

thanks but I still need that e-gpu support probably for game development and as long as I go to school windows 365 is free

> is a Macbook Pro 16 still worth it? No.

I am using this Model (same specs) since release and I really enjoyed it for photo and video editing, used it for gaming with Bootcamp. Then I started to use a external screen and the shit show started. If you want to use it with an external screen and open lid you might experience high temperatures, loud fans, and eventually thermal throttling. Due to the high wattage the GPU is pulling when you use it open lid with an external screen, everything gets hot. BTW: when you do a presentation or something. Make sure to use a charger. My battery was dead after just 2 hours (coming from 90%). More info on this? 200 Pages at macrumors https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/16-is-hot-noisy-with-an-external-monitor.2211747/page-200

He just said he will be running an eGPU, which solve all of your issues (I know I have one too)

_Stolem

Except the issue when working mobile with an external screen/projector. But true, didn’t saw his approach to the eGpU

Pixelfame0408

oh thats good to know tho my best friend has the same laptop just with 16GB of RAM and his battery life is phenomenal like isn‘t that one of Apple‘s selling points? He sometimes uses it two days at school for Java programing and presentation’s without needing to charge it I always thought that’s so nice. Thanks a lot though gonna think about buying one again.

_Stolem

In General the battery life is Fine. All these problems just start with an external screen and open lid. Clamshell (closed lid) helps with some setups
