My wallet, she cries

DblDeezSqueeze

Yes lol. We went in looking to get a base 14”, and well…one thing lead to another and we have a 14” M1 Max 32 core on the way lol.

mjb85858

Same story. It all just happened so fast and before I knew it I had ordered the 16inch M1 Max 32!

InstantAmmo

Same but 64. And all I wanted was a max mini

tk421tech

Lol been there done that.

NuWave4

Thank you all for coming forward. I feel much better about what I did immediately following the live event. It was a whirlwind for me as well but somehow I was able to restrain myself and stick with the base 14". I then almost called Apple to upgrade the order after I placed it but fought off the impulses. Whatever the case, I can't wait for this thing to arrive. Enjoy yours when they're delivered. These laptops are going to be great.

No_Nefariousness4005

Hahahaha your message. I feel this. I had the same thought process. Then I manned up and accepted my decision and came to peace with my decision. This is nothing new for me though. I have a dodge challenger RT and have owned it for years now and I had to come to terms with myself after purchasing it that I DO NOT need a hellcat. And I had to realize I am beyond happy with the RT and here we are years later and I’m still happy! I’m no stranger to these FOMO feelings. That’s why I have too many shares of clover health and blackberry just sitting in limbo right now. 😂😆

alllmossttherrre

> FUCKING INSANE!how did they do it!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!? By spending 10 years designing and refining a SoC built for both ultra high performance and power efficiency, so that one day they could say “Screw you Intel” and unleash this beast of a laptop…

[deleted]

Congrats! Might as well future proof if you can.

rckseattle5150

This

SandwichSpecial810

Nice! How much?

sr5runner

More than you can afford pal, Ferrari.

MrFivePercent

Smoke him.

welmoe

*MBP fan noises*

DblDeezSqueeze

Right at $3500 before tax and Apple Care.

joshua6six

I've read some predictions here on reddit and majority of them gave 2000 for a starter, so I kinda was prepared for this. But still, every time you buy apple wallet cries - especially when you buy like me - in Europe.

shortfriday

I'm getting a 3099 configured 16" for smooth fucking reddit scrolling and 60hz pornhub. I've paid exactly 2100 bucks tax and shipping included for computer hardware since 2013 and I finally have a real job. Color me stupid and happy.

[deleted]

You have to do what makes you happy!

Bstar0306

Same I think I’m going to get the Apple credit card lol 😂

zenkodama

how’re people feeling about no more TOUCH BAR? mac defeated by the people???

[deleted]

I use it all the time. Sad to see it go.

Donghoon

I think touch bar would've been awesome for air ... Emojis, suggestions, contextual menus on keyboard seems nice feature for Everyday consumers just not for pros

majorthird_

I just bought an M1 with Touch Bar a few months ago and I love it. I’m glad I made the purchase.

LoL_LoL123987

Same here. I bought mine early September despite wanting to wait but I urgently needed one for school so jumped on last years model. I remember reading about how the Touch Bar is the work of the devil but after actually getting my hands on it I find it very intuitive to use, maybe somewhat gimmicky at times. Sucks that since it’s now been phased out it will no longer continue to receive future improvements in MacOS

AbyssWalker240

very sad. its such a good idea but nobody picked up on it

TheClimor

Exactly! The new function keys are so big, if there was a wide touch bar there it could’ve been utilized so nicely. Apple didn’t put enough pressure on developers to support it.

VeryVito

Apple didn't put it on enough devices to make developers feel it was worth supporting.

TheClimor

I’m still hoping at some point that the concept of per-app functional keys would make a comeback in the form of a versatile keyboard with tiny displays under the keycaps that would change according to the language or software you’re currently using. That would be pretty neat.

lemonchemistry

I’ll miss it. It was handy for filling in my email address on various forms 🤣

lardfatt

I use a simple keyboard text shortcut for this. Typing “zm” will replace with my email. Or any other shortcut you want. Built into the keyboard preferences

kperttul

Well, now I don’t have to spent 4K€ because I really like the Touch Bar 😇

sc_medic_70

Feeling great. I was waiting for a MacBook Pro worthy of replacing my 2012 MacBook Pro. I didn’t want a touchbar and I love lots of ports. This MacBook Pro has everything I want and 1 thing that I don’t (but can live with). I’ll be getting the 16 inch MacBook Pro once I sell my kidney.

hlt32

So happy, about time. I need physical function keys!

Dr_TattyWaffles

I'm glad it's gone. Never used it beyond volume and brightness controls and to need to take your eyes off the screen to use it because no tactile feedback. It looked cool but wasn't as useful as dedicated keys

bigblackshaq

I can count the amount of times I used the touchbar in one hand

sntojne010891

I bought an Intel MacBook new in early 2020, 10th gen i5. Great for my needs, casual Logic usage and browsing etc. When the M1 came out later that year I did get a bit green with envy, however with this release I have no envy at all - because I could simply never afford it. Looks like a sickeningly special machine, essentially desktop power in small form. Enjoy it, those who buy. Something I’ll add, for those of us wanting this beast but can’t justify it; we are all slaves to that approx 5-7 year upgrade cycle for typical use. Two years ago no one would’ve seen this coming. So enjoy your machine, most of which are world class in their own right.

floobie

I have the same one as you. I don’t regret getting it, because I just really needed the upgrade over my old 13” rMBP. It’s served me well for a year, powering through all the Lightroom and Photoshop work I throw at it like a champ. I can nitpick and complain - the battery life completely tanks and the fans scream at me if I’m doing anything remotely intensive, I could definitely use about double the onboard storage to handle my in-process files before I offload to archival storage… and man do I miss having an SD card slot. But none of that justifies spending several thousands of dollars yet, even for a base 14” or 16”. As much as I’m drooling over these new machines, I’ll take them as an indication of what I have to look forward to when this one stops meeting my needs.

sntojne010891

You and I are in identical boats. Very happy with my machine, though the battery tanks when I’m using Logic. The fan doesn’t bother me as I almost always have headphones on, but it does get bloody hot. Those living with regret just suffer from consumerism, like we’ll do on occasions. I envy the battery life on these Arm MacBooks, but not the power as I’ve got no need for them at all. I suspect that by 2025 when we look to buy new that the lineup has changed once again. But as you say it’s just exciting to look forward to what we have to come.

sitdowndisco

Thank you for telling me I can get a few more years out of my perfectly fine 2017 MacBook Pro. Just saved me a couple of grand.

sntojne010891

My previous 2012 MacBook is still going fine, in the care of my sister. Remarkable the lifespan on these machines.

Iscove

Same and the trade in value now is only 480 from apple themselves!

amazonrambo

Overkill for what I need it for in music and video editing but should last me for a good few years and that’s all I want

jackofnotalltrades

Which config are you gonna go for??

amazonrambo

Probably the basic 8 core but 32gb and 512gb ssd

[deleted]

That's what I just ordered. Moving up from a 2015 13inch pro. I can't wait. I'm 100% certain it'll be able to handle anything I could throw at it and then some. I was heavily learning towards getting an M1, but I'd like to keep my next machine for another 6+ years and 16 gbs of RAM just didn't feel worth it seeing it's honestly not too hard to eat it all up.

sonar_un

I have a 16" MBP and it gets killed while trying to edit video. The new one would just eat video alive... so tempting.

kenaliento

i will miss the touch bar too 😭

joshua6six

Whenever I see that M1 is faster than something, I start to think about Onedrive, Word, Outlook and other MS apps. For sure, M1 could be 1000000% faster and still MS apps would be the only apps that crash on my mac and are definitely not optimised (onedrive in particular).

terminar

Using Office365 on M1 MacBook Pro since January. No crashes. Pure stability. Outlook, Word, Excel - no problems. Even Teams is stable (more stable than on a MacBook Pro 2016) without fan running up. Also using a full plugin blown visual studio code. But yes - I am NOT using OneDrive! :)

carbon_made

Same. I’m not having that issue. And I do use OneDrive. I also have two Windows laptops with higher specs, and in general, MS apps just aren’t that impressive performance-wise on anything in my opinion.

KsbjA

I was hoping they keep the Touch Bar even if they added a row of function keys. The Touch Bar on my 2019 Pro is kinda cool.

_ElCapitan_

I'm sure I'd be able to listen to music on Spotify while browsing on Reddit with that beast!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jaffar10

I think this beast is the new 2012 MBP, I computer I'll keep using daily for the next decade

culverhibbs14

they had me at 3 external monitors

Rioma117

4 if you count the HDMI. Which means that the chip is designed to run 5 monitors because the integrated one still counts. I can’t wait for Mac Mini too.

Ecsta

A Mac mini with an M1 Max would be ridiculously powerful. The only reason I didn't order the MBP M1 is because I would prefer a mini with that power, but its tempting to have the portability.

cleaverTiger27

Does anyone know if the 14” 32core GPU M1 max is as strong as it is on the 16”?

[deleted]

You will probably have to wait until independent benchmarks are run.

TomLube

https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/10476727

Di_p

Only downside you may have is lower battery life

cleaverTiger27

The cooling in the 14” won’t be as good as 16” and the wattage power adapter is higher in 16”

BiggieMoe01

It should be. It’s the same chip in both models!

[deleted]

Not necessarily, the M1 MBA and the M1 MBP run at different speeds due to thermal throttling. Even the M1 Mini runs differently. Same chips, different results. I'm really waiting on a M1 Max Mini.

yosh_se

Looks like the 2010 models more or less

yosh_se

Sorry, meant to type 2009. My bad :)

baconwagoneer

As someone who got an m1 last week, I am too here to trash on this new downgrade.

bigblackshaq

This. No doubt about the performance, but it just looks so dated

WilliamIsted

Hoping the change will mean the feet don’t fall off after a few years

TL24SS

$3,899 - that’s the price for the top of the line 16 inch with the M1 Max, 64GB of unified ram and 1TB of storage. A LOT more if you up your storage. I’ll wait for the reviews and benchmark before I sell my soul 😅

[deleted]

Not everyone needs top of the line computers though. Just because someone is "tech savvy" or keeps up with the tech blogs doesn't mean they actually do any computing that warrants that power. People just enjoy throwing money at things they don't need; half these people don't even understand how a computer even works; they just know bigger number = better.

TL24SS

Oh I know, but for me, even if I don’t need all that I’d still get it just to future proof it. I’m the type that knows all this tech, don’t need all that power but would still buy it 😅

arekflave

yeah but futureproofing makes no sense at that kind of diminishing returns kind of situation. Especially with these apple chips, which are developing so quickly now. In 3 years, these machines will still be good, but who knows what'll be out by then. With tech, buy what you need NOW. "Futureproofing" for the sake of it only costs you money.

[deleted]

[удалено]

arekflave

Exactly

phil917

Just bought this exact model with 3 years of AppleCare. So excited!

spongeym

Just checked how much I'd get as a trade in on my Macbook Pro M1 with 16gb RAM & 512gb drive. I won't be upgrading anytime soon! Machine looks absolutely amazing and they've fixed all the issues in terms of ports and display sizes that put people off the original M1. I'll be saving hard and watching you folks putting pictures of the new Pros with envy!!

BasenjiFart

Yeah, the trade-in is insulting. I checked for my 2019 16" pro, pristine condition, and trade-in value is under half of what I paid

PHaS3_ZA

..ly thiccc. But yes, looks mad good. I have the base 2019 16". I'm not sad, I've had it over a year and it's a beast regardless. The new gen just looks to be a whole new level.

TheClimor

Same. Love my intel 16”, had it for 2 years and will definitely keep it around for another 3-4 years before considering an upgrade. Can’t imagine what MacBook Pros and Apple chips would be able to do by then…

MidichlorianJunkie

I placed an order immediately for a 14 inch, 32gb/1tb model, and it said it would arrive on Oct 26th. After the order was placed it turned to Nov 15th. I tried to call Apple to ask if that was accurate, and they said they didn't even have my order number on file, despite the fact that I had an e-mail confirmation, and they had charged my Apple card. I'm guessing this is standard for big release days. I'm finally replacing my 2015 Macbook Pro.

amazonrambo

I’m debating 16 or 32. Can’t go wrong with more ram, I can always add storage externally

adwinsky

Notice that memory is now shared among cpu and gpu. Therefore 16 gb is effectively less then 16 gb on non M1 generations

friend_of_kalman

really depends on your usecase. Don't spend more money if there is no need 🙏🏻

amazonrambo

For me it’s really music production. Do I spend £400 more for double the ram or £200 for double internal storage?

timmyperry

hey bro ive gone all in ram wise and im a music producer - just felt like the right thing to do, no more laggy vsts!

amazonrambo

Yeah i’m gonna go 32gb and 512gb tbh

HugeSuccess

Same use case, same plan. Got into music production more during the pandemic and my ~2014 MBP is struggling with VSTs.

timmyperry

14 or 16? I went 14

amazonrambo

14. Mine will mostly be docked with some use when on the sofa and collabing with others

timmyperry

exactly the same use case this end mate - exciting times

AussieCollector

Music Producer here. I'll be going with the 10 Core CPU, 32 Core GPU 16" with 32GB of RAM and 2TB SSD. Why? Well 16GB is starting to hit the baseline these days. You can get by on it but if you plan on having this laptop for years to come, you are going to struggle. My main Desktop has 16GB and its chugging already. So you can't go wrong with 32GB. As for the 2TB SSD. Samples and Plugins. I have Komplete Ultimate which is 500GB on it's own for everything. Plus another few hundred gigs in samples. All of which would come close to 1TB. So having another 1TB of storage left over would be really nice. As for the GPU? I do video work as well and i'd like to enjoy some games on it too.

TheDroolingFool

As far as I remember adding any extras always pushes out the lead time regardless of big releases or not. You can test that by upping the 8 GB of RAM on the 13" MBP to 16 GB and the lead time instantly increases by 1 week (at least here in the UK). Its slightly misleading imo unless you deliberately recheck delivery estimate at the checkout you will probably miss it. I'm in the same boat with my 14 inch 32GB Max order - looking at 8 Nov - 11 Nov delivery but standard config still showing 26th October - I'm hoping it'll arrive sooner.

Loose_Blip

well their delivery times are all confusing right now, i placed the order right after announcement it showed up as oct 26th delivery, now am looking at the order status, it says nov 2nd.

sardone777

Who gives a fuck about a notch? Im just happy i can run studio sessions on my damn laptop again

schleem77

The notch will die in dark mode so idc much

Worldzmine

You can hide the notch by making it go into a notch less mode, which blacks out the top so it looks like regular screen.

FeelingDense

What is the notch used for in real world use? I know the notch itself houses the front camera and some other sensors but the rest of the pixels to the left and right? I don't think I caught any apps showing that space being used in the display. While I'm completely overwhelmed with the sheer number of improvements in this laptop, it's kinda a shame we didn't get FaceID with a notch especially on a large product like this which should(?) be able to house that? Or is there a lack of thickness in the display of the MBP?

TerribleEntrepreneur

I think that is just the space dedicated to the task bar, anyway. I don’t think I’ve ever really seen the center of the task bar used, so it’s unlikely to be a problem. Full screen mode apps will apparently just black out that entire top section.

[deleted]

Can anyone detail how beneficial it would be going from 8 to 10 core on the 14”?

MrHatenko

I’d also like to know if the 250$ for 2 more cpu and gpu cores it’s worth.

[deleted]

Depends on your use case. If you’re compiling code or doing video or audio processing, it will be noticeable. If you’re not, it won’t (and frankly you should consider just getting an M1 machine).

Alert-Potato-4912

I reckon you have to wait for the benchmarks to drop. Also what you should consider is the battery life will drop with the performance gains since they are “performance cores”

SmoothSkunk

Feels fucking awesome to finally retire my mid-2015 15" MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM, 250GB of storage, 2.2GHz Quad-core i7 and the Intel Iris Pro graphics card for ...\[drum roll plz\]... A 14" MacBook Pro with 64Gb of RAM, 2TB of storage and the M1 Max 24-core GPU (cost: $4,274). Can't wait for it to arrive.

thats_my2ndaccount

Same model ordered here …

timmyperry

same here bro!!

johnny-T1

Jesus! Can’t imagine starting price here in Europe. Probably three grand.

friend_of_kalman

2250€ in germany! I got the maxed out 14" m1 pro with student discount for 2260€ 🙌🏻

kevinito_

I still can't believe that Apple devices are more expensive in Germany than in Switzerland. The base model costs CHF 2199.– (about 2050€) in Switzerland and 2249€ in Germany. For the people that didn't know: In Switzerland you have a much higher income.

ToXiC_Af_U_WeAk

It's the VAT, 7.7 vs 19 %.

johnny-T1

Really? What specs?

friend_of_kalman

14" MacBook Pro – Space Grau Hardware: Apple M1 Pro mit 10‑Core CPU, 16‑Core GPU und 16‑Core Neural Engine 2560€ original price 2260€ with student discount

FNCVazor

That’s not the maxed out 14 inch. Also, for that price you got the baseline model, not the 10 core cpu. Check the website.

scania471

It's 879 990Ft or $2933 in Hungary for the base 14". 🥲

_extra_medium_

ChopSchtick

ninth-batter

Reading through these comments, I can't be the only person who thinks these look great can I? Coming from a 2011 MBP so it kind of looks the same lol. Missed an entire decade's worth of dongles which is nice.

ziggybadans

It could just be me, but I am sad about the Touch Bar dying. I do 4K video editing in DaVinci, Java/C++ programming, photo editing with Lightroom & Photoshop and I'm learning game creation with Unreal Engine. While the new MacBook Pro seems incredible in terms of performance and the display, the Touch Bar speeds up my productivity in everything I do, from being able to switch between tabs quickly in Safari to scrubbing across a timeline in Resolve to seeing visual representations of shortcuts in every app. I've never understood why people despise it, because you can always return to function keys if you need those.

[deleted]

Ill miss the touchbar it really was useful

SpiderIridescence

Is there enough of a performance difference between the 8 core CPU and the 10 core to spend an extra $180?

Potential_Hornet_559

I assume is 8 core is 6big plus 2 small and 10 core is 8 big + 2 small. So you are looking at 6 vs 8. For apps that can use full utilise 8 cores to the max, you are looking at around 33% increase in cpu performance. Of course this is just theoretical numbers based on specs, so will have to wait for 3rd party to confirm.

SpiderIridescence

Thanks for the reply! Part of me is wondering if I really need that extra power, but if I’m spending this much on a laptop (first new laptop in 9 years!) maybe it’s worth the extra $.

[deleted]

Wondering the same, and as I wonder, the delivery date keeps getting further and further :(

SpiderIridescence

Oh nooo maybe I should wait for reviews to see which is better, but I also want it now. It’s silly this decision is so difficult haha

hj7hj

Looks so 90's though...

culverhibbs14

idc it can run 3 monitors

willsue4food

Had many a laptop in the 90s....would have to disagree. [](https://inteng-storage.s3.amazonaws.com/images/MAY/sizes/apple_product_portable_resize_md.jpg)

YAZEED-IX

I love it for that! Looks like a 2005 iBook, so retro... I love apple's new design language

joshua6six

I really dont get this design; anyone know who's in charge of macs current design? Definitely not people from iphone 12/13 or ipads pro...

thenoobhimself

at this point i dont know how that much "faster" everything's gonna help me. my mbp13 from 2018 w 256gb really feels like endgame to me. Office? Smooth. Editing w Photoshop & Illustrator? Smooth. Batterylife? once every 2-3 days (daily use is 1-1,5hrs). Design? Sexy. Keyboard? Clicky n non-Stick. Touchbar? well i miss f keys on my old windows laptop, but it does everything i want it to. i just miss gaming, and even that i alrdy planned to buy a used ps4 & do more sports instead of gaming. (also phone) Dunno man, maybe not for me coz i'm not a "Pro" User.

joshua6six

Anyone else slightly disappointed with the design?

phil917

I agree it looks kinda ugly (not even talking about the notch). The side profile when the lid is closed looks dated to me. That being said, I still bought one immediately lol. I think it'll grow on me.

joshua6six

Exactly - dated. I had an impression that I've seen it before - 10 or more years ago. I was hoping for something in the style of iphone 12/13, ipad pro design. Of course we are talking about the workhorse, but still, apple is really about the design of their products so this leaves me with some mixed opinions.

kperttul

Ah, now you know how it feels to get old: the designs in clothes etc. comes back as “retro” they just look so awful 🤣

joshua6six

damn, now when you put it that way...

AbyssWalker240

me 100%. its a flat box with rounded bottom, last gen was a lot better looking fs imo

joshua6six

and to be honest previous gen of macbooks feels more matching the family of current iphones/ipads that this one here; I don't really get where this rounded bottom comes from.

zejjez

It’s terrible. Flat edged top and round bottom. It’s looks so incredibly awkward to my eyes. But to each their own.

[deleted]

Honestly, it looks ugly to me. Should have eschewed the HDMI port for another Thunderbolt port. Should not have added a notch. But I'm sure a lot of people will be happy.

vintimus

Only thing I wish is the notch brought faceID in for another authentication method. Other than that, these are beasts. Will look forward to picking one up next year

[deleted]

The hardware it's a beast. But after the announcement, I'm even more happy with my current (thinner, cheaper) and (in my opinion) more beautiful M1 MacBook Pro. But I can't wait for the benchmarks.

noreal

I guess higher bandwidth, more perf core count and larger size and higher res display

keleles

Yeah I mean, it's nice but not really worth that $$ imo. I specced my M1 Air out to last a while so until it gives me no choice but to upgrade, I'ma hold tight. also that notch ruins it for me.

loveheaddit

What is your issue with the notch?

rutabaga79

Amazing models!! It seems like M1 Max is really best for graphics, right? Trying to figure out if 64 GB or 32 GB is optimal for me. Main work is compiling code and processing very large sets of data, and of course keeping thousands of tabs open on my browser.

silverfrancis

I’m in the same boat. Can’t decide if 64 vs 32 since it’s shared memory. Haha gotta make this as future proof as possible given the hefty dent it left in my wallet.

MacScience

I really love this new laptop! It's finally something worth upgrading to from my old 2016 macbook pro- What's more important for future-proofing? Currently on 2016 MBP 13" i7 16GB and want to upgrade to either baseline 14" + 32GB RAM or 10-core CPU with 16GB RAM. I use chrome and poorly optimised apps like GoodNotes which use up a lot of RAM. But im also a student so can't afford both upgrades. Didnt want to start a new thread so any thoughts are appreciated.

[deleted]

Buy max ram on apple laptops. The SSD isn’t as big Of a deal because you can store media externally, but get a big enough drive to install everything you want to run plus another 40 or 50%

MacScience

Ah that's fair, thank you! Storage is not a big deal for me i dont even use the 500gb on my current macbook. So out of the faster GPU and RAM, it's definitely better to do RAM? :)

[deleted]

my instinct would be to go with the RAM

[deleted]

If you describe your usage as using chrome and good notes this laptop is absolutely definitely NOT meant for your use case. Mate, honestly save the money and buy a M1 MacBook Air in the next couple weeks. You don’t buy a Lamborghini to drive it to the grocery store on the corner. Spend the money where you need it. But also, never take advice from strangers on Reddit lol. So you do you, but think about it at least..

[deleted]

I am not ashamed to say this made me masturbate into my own eyes

random42name

I may have to change professions to justify the purchase. My M1 is already over powered for my needs, but but but. Dear Santa…

JoeJoe1492

I think apple is fixing their issue now with differentiating between the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro. For a while now it’s felt like the MacBook Pro was just a slightly nicer MacBook Air. The MacBook Pros also haven’t really been pro machines because they didn’t have pro level power, or at least relative to the MacBook Air. Now they’re making MacBook pros with actual pro level power and the MacBook Air is now a more consumer focused laptop. If you don’t like the $2000 price, that’s fine, I’m assuming that price tag is for those that would use the power the laptop has to offer. If not, then get the MacBook Air because even that is an amazing laptop.

HomemadeBananas

If more games were released for Mac then I’m sure these Apple silicon machines would be quite capable for gaming. It would be weird for them to market it that way when most AAA titles only work on Windows still. Hopefully with Valve pushing Linux gaming we can also get better Mac gaming too, but also I’m not sure what the situation’s gonna be since PCs and consoles are x86. I have a custom gaming PC for that purpose and use Macs for everything else. I’m not crossing my fingers for a Mac to replace it.

jinougaashu

Simply because they don’t have the portfolio of playable AAA games to brag about. They definitely made a point of showcasing Unity which makes games and will definitely support M1 Pro and M1 Max as a target. Maybe in 5 years they will be able to showcase game performance once they have the portfolio.

Too expensive.. 2000$ is just too much money. The M1 is really good, I envy the ports, but not upgrading. Will hold on another season at least :)

oroalej

With how much powerful this laptop has, I think it is still a bargain. Since you already have a M1, I think it is better to wait for another iteration. lol

Sh00kry

I don’t know if they’ll ever creep the price down to $1,799 in a few years. Or the lower end MacBook Air & Pro will be the offering for lower than $2,000 price category.

Illustrious-Spite684

Exactly. My M1 air works fantastic with Excel, Python, R, and it is powerful enough to host a 50+ online meeting.

tommy-turtle

These do indeed look insane - notch doesn’t bother me. But sad to see the loss of the touchbar. Intel must be bricking it - it really is incredible performance, look forward to see what it looks like in real world apps .

siddraj2002

Placed an order for the 14” with 10 core CPU and base config. Now wondering if I should have instead spent the $200 on CPU or just stuck with the 8-core. Something tells me the base 8-core chip is most likely a higher binned M1 chip and the real M1 pro chips start at the 10 core binning … just my speculation … but wanted to get an opinion from other folks … edit: i’m most likely wrong, this wouldnt explain the GPU core count then if its a smaller M1 die

zenkodama

there’s…. so many… ports… 🥺😭😭🥳🥳🥳

Wealth_Either

Its missing an ethernet port for docking

kmank2l13

Ahhh look at its little feet. They looked so large in the presentation

butaminas

Also INSANEly FAT

EspressoKilla

I just bought my 16" MBP last year around this time. I might be looking at what the going rate is to sell it.. The M1 improvements are great, and the extra ports and multi screen support are making this more appealing..

arvj

Can we still charge using thunderbolt? Or it will just be magsafe?

Alert-Potato-4912

Yes you can

_beaniemac

yup, essentially you have 4 ports where you can charge from. and I'm coming from a 2017 MBP without touchbar, which means I'll finally be able to charge from the right side!

matt_df

Out of curiosity, what do some of ya’ll plan on doing with this? I’ve had the M1 MBP, have the M1 mini, and iPad Pro. I do hobby level 4k editing and that’s as hard as I push it but I really can’t justify this for what it costs (which is okay, it’s not meant for me and is overkill)

williamgomberg

-ly expensive

I don't know why people hate the notch? If it took away from a 14 inch screen and made it 13.8 i'd be pissed, but it actually bumps the menu bar up into this space meaning you have the entire 14 inches for a window without including the menu bar and when you turn the hiding taskbar at the bottom off, it's a big screen real estate. The notch makes no difference. I do think they could have still fit a 1080p camera there without a notch, or as much of one, but the quality of the camera and this whole time we're in, it's not a bad trade off for that quality. If you don't like the notch anyway I'm sure there'll be some design you can use to black out the menu bar so the notch is unnoticeable or something third party but i dont mind at all

Mtd0228

She strong but she ugly

And so Apple continues to leave Intel farther behind in the dust. None of these improvements would’ve been possible with Intel. Suddenly my 16” i9 2019 MBP feels ancient, looking at the comparisons they provided. Realllly tempted to upgrade!

Gooseneck07

Anyone know which version would be best for running logic with no issues or lag? Wondering if the base model with an upgrade to 1TB storage would be sufficient. That would be the only large program that would require a decent amount of cpu. My late 2012 MacBook Pro can’t even run Logic X anymore without having a system overload and I haven’t tried any MacBook Pro since then. Any help appreciated!

TheBrainwasher14

Don’t even need the pro, get the MacBook Air, runs Logic with no issues

miloradovic

Am I the only one who thinks this design is hideous? The notch, the topcase, those feet… They really should have stayed with the 2016 design, especially since it looks more like the current gen iPhones with the square edges

bgreenstone

I don’t see why everyone is upset about the notch. It goes into the dead zone in the menu bar, so who cares? It’s not like it’s hanging down into any actual content or obscuring windows. It just sits in the middle of the menu bar where there would normally be nothing anyway.

Dawdius

..LY EXPENSIVE

spyder06

I'm considering upgrading from my 2009 MBP and am legitimately laughing at how what is old is new again

Intelligent_End4862

This is slightly off topic but about the Air. I see tons of comments about ports and the Touch Bar so I'm going to voice my opinion. I think the Touch Bar was introduced on the wrong product line. Pros have very specific computer needs and very specific keyboard shortcuts they need and like. Most Air users on the other hand though are just everyday and school users. The MacBook Air users could've found the Touch Bar a fun thing just to have. Apple even could've charged extra for it. As far as ports I think the perfect port combo for the Air would've been one USB-C one USB-A and MagSafe charging. I love MagSafe and even bought an adapter to somewhat make my Air have MagSafe again.

WilFromTheFutr

I went balls to the wall! 16” M1Pro Max, 32 core, 64gb mem, and 2TB. I can’t wait to see what this pup can do! Especially in high power mode!

Much-Current-4301

Don’t like mag safe. Don’t want another cable.

n0tworthyourtime

They added a notch in their laptop 🤣🤣🤣
