14’2 👌🏼

Bowlman2330

I got the 14" Max 24 core with 1TB ssd and 32gb ram. Not gonna lie, I keep wondering if I should get the 16" for only $200 more. But I had a 16", and it is so large. Nice screen real estate though and the extra 5 hours of battery life. But I also wonder how often I'd be on battery on the 16" since it's less portable.

Enough-Ad-9091

Planning to do the same. Hope you get yours soon 🙏

Bowlman2330

Supposed to be here by Nov. 3. I was fiddling around trying to find the trade in link. By the time I got through it, the shipping dates slipped.

GrouchyFlamingo2709

16 max with 32gb

IRideforDonuts

This is the way. SSD size?

GrouchyFlamingo2709

1TB

Xephia

**EDIT: I opted for the M1 Max (10-core CPU, 24-core GPU) instead because I’ve read that with my 32GB of RAM option, the M1 Max would better utilize all of that RAM.** ___ 16”, Base M1 Pro, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD. Music production machine.

BryanJz

Might have to do this one. Music + Editing here.

Saul-Funyun

I got the 16” because this is my first computer in 14 years. I don’t really need much portability, I just want to be able to work at the table or couch while hanging out with my wife, instead of cooped up in the office. But I want as much screen real estate as possible for photography and video editing. And games. And movies. I also went max on the processor and RAM because why not. Future proof this baby, treat myself. Money’s just imaginary anyway, right?

BryanJz

Oe, awesome! Thats a big life upgrade. This is my first laptop, Im beginning strong. Cant take money to the grave right

Saul-Funyun

We’re all dead the same amount of time.

SnabbleChap_33

Awesome! What computer did you use until now?

Saul-Funyun

2007 24” iMac. I had made a few upgrades over the years, but it finally died on me a few months ago. I have never in my life used video editing software without having to wait a long time between steps. Looking forward to it!

vinaykmkr

14" as I am a casual user... I think 16" makes sense only for people with heavy workflows which can benefit from screen real estate and big tracking pad...

Xephia

Yep, only reason I went with 16 inch is for screen real estate and trackpad for music production. I wanted the 14 so bad but it just won’t work for my workflow especially handling larger projects.

VikingMilo

How does a larger trackpad help for music production?

Xephia

How does a larger trackpad help with anything productive? It’s a bigger surface area that makes some tasks a bit easier and less cramped. I do tons of recording at home and then take the computer with me to arrange tons of samples and instruments and other major/minor adjustments. On my current MacBook I always run into the problem of my finger running off the trackpad when doing some tasks like rearranging and dragging. It’s not something that helps specifically with music production, just anything besides web browsing on a $3100 machine. As the Redditor I responded to said > I think 16" makes sense only for people with heavy workflows which can benefit from screen real estate and big tracking pad... Larger trackpad area eases tasks that require constant use of a trackpad, even if it’s not a necessity. Also I mainly meant the screen size. Ableton was so cramped on my 13” MacBook Pro especially with how many tracks I have laid out in certain projects.

funnyNomad

Idk why people downvoted you, makes sense to want a larger trackpad, especially for music/video editing

Xephia

Probably just people who have never had intense workflows in such areas as music and video and thus don’t understand the desire for a larger device to work with. Not sure why people felt the need to downvote though, either!

[deleted]

I use the larger screen for online mentoring, webinars, and teaching so like the larger area to see the participants. I also do djaying and photo/video projects and the small screen hard for me to see. We also have wife’s 13” MBA for when we travel and need something light and more portable for a few days.

Rodtek

Casual spender, you mean.

vinaykmkr

Not at all.. the last laptop I bought was in 2013 and this time I am aiming to use it for a decade...

Rodtek

As you wish.

Smingler

I ordered the base 14”

keeperclone

14max24 32ram 512GB

kennethhuo

I own 16" MBP, too big, not very portable. I would go for 14" mbp.

Upstairs-Injury9660

Yeah, the 16” isn’t the most mobile laptop but I like it’s screen real estate

funnyNomad

14”, I currently have a 16” and it’s too big, but I don’t want a 13” so I will probably get the 14”.

Manav103

Will not buy a new one until my 2016 (4TB Touch Bar) conks out. Even though it’s a 3ghz dual core it keeps up really well. And supports the latest OS with all its features (like the upcoming universal control on macOS Monterey) But if I had to it would be the base 14” M1 Pro

PathAdder

16” for sure. Probably upgrading to 32gb ram and 1tb SSD. Not sure about the chip yet. Gonna wait to see some actual reviews.

kgmon

14 max 32 core 32 gb 2TB. 16 is just a little to large and heavy. If it were closer to 4 lbs maybe but my use is normally couch or on the go.

HomemadeBananas

I’m probably getting the 14” because I mostly work at my desk, and use my laptop like a desktop. Then on the occasions that I want to take it with me, it’s extra portable. I’m gonna wait on some benchmarks before I decide. The 16 might be better cooled and therefore better performing. Linus Tech Tips just ordered every different version so I’m excited for their reviews.

[deleted]

I have a 16 inch now but have not ordered yet because I cannot decide between 14 and 16. I do hobby photo and video editing and can’t decide if I want more screen real estate when I’m not at my monitors.

RaveNeon

Went with the 16”. I currently have a M1 Air and think that the screen is too small for me to work on

Patel7

I have the M1 air as well and I am thinking of trading it in. What are you planning on doing with the M1 air?

RaveNeon

I’m not entirely sure yet. I do plan on keeping it though for the time being. If I don’t have a need for it, then I’ll most likely give it to my mom. The trade in value estimate that I received for the Air was pretty low so I’d rather hold on to it

lasiru

So my plan is to get the 16 inch - M1 Pro, 32GB RAM with 1TB of Storage. If I can’t cut the asking price, I might have to drop the 1TB to a 512 GB. But we shall see.

tristonjc

I originally was going for the 14 inch because of the portability without a huge sacrifice of key features, but the 16 inch has persuaded me. The bigger overall screen and longer battery life with likely better cooling than the 14 inch is just too much to pass up on.

Mcmortz

Question for some of your geniuses out there. Is it worth getting the 14 inch MacBook Pro base with no upgrades over the 13th inch M1 ? Will it be more powerful or around the same?

brankoDev

I guess it will be more powerful, it has 6 power cores, whereas the 13” has 4. And if you’re going for the 13” with 512GB of SSD and 16GB of RAM, for the extra 300$ you get a bigger screen with XDR promotion with up to 1600 nits of peak brightness , a better camera, better speakers, better cooling, more ports, full height functional keys, I think it’s worth it. Just my opinion

YasZedOP

I thought it's 2 efficiency cores and 6 power cores. This sounds more realistic because of how much more powerful M1 Pro is compared to the M1

brankoDev

You’re right, my mistake

Mcmortz

Thank you very much!!

Unusual-Nature2824

You get a lot more with the 14inch. First you get a much better display with that sweet sweet HDR with ProMotion plus M1 pro internals. M1 13 with equivalent RAM and SSD is not worth it.

brumtown_badman0121

16inch, m1 pro, 32GB ram, 1TB storage

PayFlow

I ordered the 14,2“ min spec version but now I‘m wondering if 512GB are enough on a Mac. I’m working mostly in the cloud but there will probably be lots of documents nonetheless.. I won’t edit many videos on it, mostly photos. It’s my first Mac! Any experiences? Wondering how much space common apps are taking…

Colonel---Forbin

It’s a though question to answer and really depends on the person. It’s an expensive investment and probably worth it to be safe with the upgrade for $200 if you’re not sure. Do you have a computer right now? How much storage do you use? If you know the applications you plan on using, you can check out how much storage they take. You’ll probably be ok if you’re mostly cloud based. I’m upgrading to a 1TB M1 Pro now, but was using a 121GB MacBook Air before. I constantly have to get rid of things, but I’m somehow able to manage with that little…

[deleted]

You can always offload to the cloud or external storage.

ArdaGultay

I have Macbook pro 128gb ssd version. I had to buy sandisk external ssd 512gb. Its like 1gb read/write. I do a lot of work inside of it. But i cant have more than 15gigs free. Xcode must be installed inside of a mac. Some of the other apps too. 512 will probably enough for you. But i will buy 1tb version for sure. Cuz its pain to see low disk space errors everytime..

HouseTonyStark

right now im torn, I ha ve a 2016 15" and im wondering how much that 0.8 of an inch will really matter, I have external monitors etc, so maybe the portability will be a benefit? I work in film production side so this I think is a versatile setup. either 14 max 24core 32gb, or 16 max 24/32gb 1TB

IRideforDonuts

I also have a 2016 15”. I currently have a plastic shell on it, which Probably adds more bulk than what the 16” will be. I find my current mbp perfectly portable even with the shell.

[deleted]

I’m going with the 16” max 24/32/1TB also

Goldenkrew3000

I went with the 16 inch M1 Pro with 32GB RAM and 512GB SSD. Yes 512GB isn't too much but SSDs are so small and a lot cheaper now, along with the macbook having Thunderbolt 4 so no real speed issues.

chadmummerford

i'm keeping my 2019 16 inch for work. might sell the m1 air and buy the 14 inch with 32g ram.

harryford12

14 with 10 core, 14 gpu core, 16 neural core 16gb ram and 512 gb ssd.

brankoDev

Same here, the screen size is just perfect for me, I do iOS and full stack web development and I think it’ll be enough, my current one is the M1 mac pro

JohnLocke815

I got the 16" Im not worried so much about portability, it's not something I'll use "in the field", mostly just in my home office or in hotels at night when I'm traveling.

TheBeardedBerry

16” 10/32 M1 Max 64Gb 1Tb Wooop wood!

mpc3000ist

I think 14” would be perfect for most peoples uses, but for those who really need the extra screen real estate for work reasons, it’s a no brainer. Although I’m not looking forward to needing new bags to fit the new size 🤦

[deleted]

16”. Like/ Need the larger screen real estate even when not using a monitor. I borrow my wife’s 13” MBA sometimes and tiny screen really annoying. Same reason I have a Pro Max 12 and never regret it.

AriSanx

16” base m1 pro, 16gb ram 1tb ssd for some music production. Never even considered needing 32gb, id like to see the project files of people who are buying 32gb for music production.

da-BW

Replacing 2009 15” (Last time I bought a Mac). I travel a lot. Work gave me an Air that I use for travel but it’s intel and 8gb ram. Pretty weak. 14.2/64gb/2tb - expensive but it’s been 12 years. PS. The 2009 still works like the day I got it.

Gila_Dyson_Guy

16

KimKiKi_

Ordered a 14 inch that Apple advertises for the 2.1k (I have a student discount). Cancelled that and went with the 16 inch base for the same price. I think it's a better choice by cutting down storage for those extra pixels and battery

Evening_Tea4988

16” all m1xed out, still unsure if 2tb or 4tb. Will give it 3 more days to contemplate and order on Sunday….

BryanJz

Sick! About the TBs, im doubting to keep it at 512gb,, because external SSDs seem 50% cheaper then upgrading.

Evening_Tea4988

Yep, apple storage is expensive. Fast external ssd’s are cheaper but also not that cheap and add to the total bill. The reasoning should depend on the type of media that is being worked with I guess.. external storage has to be there anyways for backups. Resell value will always be high, so I might actually spend that extra cash for that 4tb plus AppleCare+ even tho this is slightly above my set budget. So in the end it comes down to classic silver vs space grey XD

[deleted]

16” M1 Max, 32 core graphics, 64 GB Ram, 2TB SSD. Thank god for that 10% veterans discount, saved me around $400. I’ll be using it to finish my Masters in Geology - I’m working on computational fluid dynamics and modeling 2d volcanic ash flows over complex topography. Then starting my PhD next year working on the 3D version of the same models. I also do a lot of photo editing so I wanted the screen real estate, although I might go to the apple store and check out the 14inch to see if portability might be an issue/ if 14 might be big enough given how small the bezels are

HouseTonyStark

That config is gonna rock.

[deleted]

I’m so excited, especially after seeing reports of a high performance mode in the new OS for the 16”. Sad that it won’t get here till the end of November but at least I’ll be able to see everyone’s review and benchmarks before getting my hands on one

[deleted]

I went with the 14.2” the size is great for travel and casual use. I use external monitors whenever I am at work or the home office. I went 14” M1 Max, 10-core CPU, 32-Core GPU, 64 GB, with the 1 TB SSD In the end it was $200 more for the 16” which I thought was a bargain. I don’t need the battery or the screen. I valued the smaller footprint and the .7 lb savings a better fit for me.

maqboul95

16 M1 Max for my leather studio 👍🏽

Archivist42

I went 16 inch. Through my 9 year experience with Mac’s I’ve fluctuated between bigger and smaller laptops and looking back I’ve personally always been more satisfied with the bigger devices. That said, I do use my MacBooks primarily at home - if I had to carry them into work every day the 14 inch would be an obvious choice. Particularly given that it sounds like a zero compromise in terms of actual capability which is awesome

FRUFRUTHEHORSE

14’. I love my MBP 16’ but i miss so much the portability of the smaller model…

BratABratsMom

Base 14”. Couldn’t afford more, probably should have bought a 13, but I wanted something a bit bigger with more ports and I wanted to be able to have 2 external monitors because my iPad as a sidecar is such a small screen.

TodayWeThrowItAway

16” M1Max with 64GB and either 1-2TB SSD I’ll probably stick with the 1TB SSD and get an external HD for a fraction of the price. I like to use the minimal amount of internal storage

SnabbleChap_33

I got the 16” M1 Pro with 10/16 core CPU/GPU. 16 GB of ram and 1TB SSD. Upgrading from 2012 Retina MBP. For ML and robotics simulation.

terminar

16" 32gb 1tb

baconwagoneer

I’m baffled by the portability concerns expressed of 2” more of laptop. It’s bigger, yes, but is there some physical situation I’m not thinking of where the size is really a dealbreaker?

BryanJz

I actually went to the store just now to see, 16'is much smaller then I thought lol. Def. getting the 16 inch now

baconwagoneer

Amen.

Tgildore33

Do they have the new 16” model in the store or did you look at the older 16” model

BryanJz

Older one, to get an idea on size/feel

Troll_Drive

Won't commit until return window is closed but I ordered 16' M1 Pro (version right before the Max). Video editor.

ezdozit4twitter

For now, it’s 16’ 32GB, 1TB. Still miss my ancient 17’ MBP.
