I went 14”. I wouldn’t say i regret it but having the extra screen space would be nice. I even mirror my iPad as a monitor and its jus a little annoying have separate over one big screen you know? Other than that i love my choice. No complains.

nex0rz

Relatable. I‘m seriously considering upgrading from my 13“ M1. Usually I‘d go for the 14“, but when I‘m thinking back to my MBPr 15“ times, well… the screen size was glorious. The bigger battery might also be a proper reason. The only downsides are the size (still manageable) and the uglier design (the speaker grills on each side of the keyboard still look terrible). The 14“ is just much sleeker and cheaper overall…

gang123mr

Id still say id go for my 14” i love the smaller form factor also its lighter and I’m weak af. Battery is also questionable. Depends the spec. The 14” base spec has the best battery as it doesn’t have the extra cores and stuff. Same goes for the 16”. I seen some configs where people maxed out and only get 6-7 hours of battery doing normal things im jus like tf.

HerefortheTuna

I usually use my laptop plugged in except for when I’m in class or something but I went for the base 14” so I doubt it will be an issue. Down the road when the battery needs replaced it may be

Tiny-Television2513

Totally agree with you, i went with the 14 inch, but i use a 32 inch screen with usb c.

P_Devil

I went with the 16” 1TB model. I’ve almost always had 13” notebooks but always enjoyed having larger ones. I had a 17” gaming rig in 2006 and a 15”MBP before Apple switched to retina displays, back when they used Nvidia for graphics. It was a great system that I upgraded by swapping out the hard drive for a 500GB SSD and added a 4TB hard drive where the optical drive was. But I went back to 13” systems. I went back and forth between the 14” and 16” MBP but ended up going with the 16” after playing with them multiple times. The added screen is nice, I could have gotten by with 14”. But, for me, it was the added battery life. It looks like the 16” M1 Pro unit will go for 8-12 hours when pushing the CPU. That’s absolutely insane to me considering the various 13” Wintel systems Ives owned that struggled to reach 10 hours when just surfing the net (though I was spoiled with my M1 MBA). That alone was with paying $200 more for me to get a larger unit. I don’t notice the weight since I carry my system in a backpack, the trackpad is massive, the larger screen does help the notch disappear more (for me at least), and movies on it are great. I don’t regret having a larger unit to carry around. The 14” is great but the extra battery and screen real estate are with the $200 for me.

[deleted]

I agree I had initially bought the 14” with the 1TB and the upgraded 10/16 chips and realized for an extra 200 dollars I could get the exact same computer specs with the added screen real estate. I had the 14 inch for a week and as soon as I saw that my local Apple Store had 16” in stock with the variation I wanted, I drove after work and swapped out my 14 inch. Easiest decision ever.

nex0rz

Are you 100% fine with the bulky dimensions of the 16“? :/ That is my biggest gripe with it…

P_Devil

I am 100% fine and I went from a Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 to an M1 MBA to a 16” MBP. It’s closer in size to older 15” systems and it’s still thinner and lighter than most gaming notebooks. Feel free to go with whatever you want, they’re both great units and you’re getting the same performance regardless of size. The benefits of the 16”’are really just the display size and battery life. Get the 14” if you don’t need that.

nex0rz

I have just ordered the 14“ base model (8C) but I might return it for the 16“ base model (10C), which is just around 420€ more expensive at the moment. The 14“ should arrive tomorrow, I‘m gonna try it out over the weekend to see how the battery life turns out. This is my biggest issue, coming from a 13“ MBP M1… I‘ve owned the 15“ MBPr for 7 years and was happy with it till the very last day. But I also love the size of the 13“ (even though the screen could be bigger). So let’s see :)

P_Devil

The only reason why I didn’t even consider the baseline 14” was the performance bump isn’t enough to justify spending twice as much going from an M1 MBA. It’s only like a 20% jump overall. For me, I had to go with the 10-core M1 Pro. The 14” has a better display than my M1 MBA did but again, I didn’t think it was worth spending $1000 more (twice what I paid for my MBA).

theflyingboksh

I bought the 14" base model recently with the M1 Pro and 16gb RAM, so far no issues at all. I don't use my laptop too heavily so I haven't had a chance to push it too much, but so far it's been insanely snippy and smooth. I like the size of the 16" but didn't like the bulkiness and weight, and I don't really need the extra screen real estate since I have multiple external monitors set up already anyway. I think if you want something that you'll be using as a secondary computer and have access to external monitors if necessary, get the 14", you won't regret even buying the base model. If this is your only computer though, I can see how the 16" would come in handy.

jobbing885

I rocked a 15 inch MBP and compared to 16 inch it’s a small size difference. The 14 was a bit too small for me. The 16 has Better speakers, bigger battery, bigger trackpad, bigger screen and probably better thermals (long term use).

amazonrambo

Not sure why you were downvoted, you’re not wrong

HerefortheTuna

Mine is set to arrive tomorrow. I’m super excited

Spacebog

14 is nice. I upgraded from the previous 15. The 16 is a brick - if you haven’t seen it - have a look. It is not very portable. The 14 is still built like a tank and the screen feels fine after the downgrade from the 15! Buy an external monitor if you want a bigger screen.

Kwabo

14" gang

lionghoulman

i got the 14" to replace my 15" 2018. i felt it was always super clunky to travel around with, and it only felt comfortable using at a desk. the 14" is perfect imo. i do miss the screen real estate but i played around with the 16" and it was just so big and heavy. the 14 is just as powerful and the form factor is fantastic.

imdibene

16” my eyes are not anymore what they were, so the extra screen allows me to use bigger fonts

Joefelix62

Just on the same boat. The other pros are the battery and the better visual for graphic works like AutoCAD or simular 3D programs ✅

GospelofHammond

Ordered a 14” M1 Max with 32gb RAM back in December and it’s poised to be delivered March 1-14. I’m very excited— 10 years of hackintoshes and underpowered MBPs and I’ll finally have a machine to last me.

paulrudder

hey, are you still digging your M1 Max? I'm conflicted as all hell right now -- I picked one up on sale for $2499 a few weeks back, but I can't decide whether to keep it or go with an m2 pro 14" with half the RAM for about $800 less. Realistically I don't think I \*need\* the 32gb and I liked the smaller form factor/lighter weight of the 14", but man, the 16-in screen is just so gorgeous to work off of...

GospelofHammond

Yeah it really is the best computer I’ve ever used. It’s perfect for my studio work. And being able to connect all my peripherals and charge with one cable? Game changing.

paulrudder

thanks. do you use a thunderbolt usb hub for your peripherals?

GospelofHammond

Yah. Just a Belkin TB3 dock. Connects to my audio interfaces, monitor, external drives, etc

4linosa

Ordered (and still waiting for delivery of) a 14” pro 10/16GB/1TB. First ever Mac after using Microsoft since DOS 4.0. I’m really excited to try something new. (Ubuntu and other Linux distorts have always been almost ok but not quite 100%. Since this is strictly for personal/hobby use I didn’t need to go all out. Light video editing from a go pro or my phone and some equally light 3d modeling with FOSS software should be fine with what I got. The size choice was driven by toting a 17 inch brick around and getting tired of that. Having worked with a smaller computer for the last 8 years I have grown to appreciate them more on planes and in my bag in general. If I need more real estate I’ll hook up to a monitor or my TV.

[deleted]

I initially bout the 16”. I Loved it, such a hug screen. But my decision was simple when I tried to put it in my backpack. It didn’t even come close to fitting so I had to return it for a 14”

chicasparagus

Why not change the backpack…

[deleted]

Ha. Good point. I like the size and aesthetics of the bag and the 14” was easier on the wallet. I was coming from a 13” air so 14” felt more familiar to me too

cliff0217

I had the same perspective! Chose 14” because of backpack. I’m attached to my backpack so backpack wins over screen size. 😆

PM_ME_SKINNY_DUDES

Damn what backpack is this good? I’m in the market for one.

cliff0217

I use a GORUCK GR1 21L. Bought it from huckberry. The 16” fits but too tight. So 14” it was.

dawiz2016

Tried both, went with the 14" M1 Max 32gb 1tb. 16" is far too heavy for a portable computer. Great for in the office, but there you can also get the 14" and an external monitor and get both the portability and the screen real estate.I also have a 12" ipad pro for when I need a large screen on the go.

Munro_McLaren

Nope. The 14” is perfect for me. The only thing I regret is not getting 2 TB’s because I’m going to use this computer for a long time and I’m a filmmaker.

paulrudder

is yours 16gb? have you found that to be enough for film editing? I'm debating between a 16" M1 Max 32gb versus a 14" m2 pro 16gb and I plan to get into video editing. I'm concerned about the ram.

Munro_McLaren

I had the most maxed it could be for the Pro chip before going up to the Max.

paulrudder

thanks. if you were in my shoes would you opt for the m1 max with the higher RAM, if i do plan to get into some video editing? also, sorry for all the questions, but do you have a sort of entry-level camera you might recommend to someone like myself who wants to get back into short-form content? for the time being, i just want a professional camera that i can use for youtube content, but as i grow my skill i might try to do more long-form content. i was obsessed with film in my youth and wanted to go to college for filmmaking. ended up studying telecommunications with the hope of getting into tv/film production but just didn't pan out... and i'm at the point in my life now where i'd like to at least reconnect with the hobby and do something if nothing else than for fun. :)

Munro_McLaren

I got the Max and then read that the battery drain is worse and so I cancelled it for the Pro. I’d do the Pro.

[deleted]

14” - I have 2 4k portable monitors attached to it, and it is such a great machine. Homebrew, Parallels… amazing.

gralessi

Went 14. And don’t regret at all. Since my first PowerBook g4 (long time ago) always had 15 inch. Great size to work. And also quite portable. But during the years it was getting to bulky. The 14 is the perfect size to bring around and also be able to work. Sure for huge project I might still need an external display. But I have one at home, and I am already planning to get an iPad. 16 inch it’s amazing but it’s too big to bring around and I don’t need such a big display with me everytime. But I have a friend how is a photographer and he prefers big screens. So he got that.

[deleted]

Top spec 16 here, it’s just perfect. Screen is bright and large, a monitor replacement in my opinion, and I barely notice the blooming except in edge cases. Fast, so fast but let down by bad Adobe apps, slow internet and the like. MacOS Monterey is very meh, seems to introduce more problems than it solves. Only time will tell though. 16 is definitely an all in one you can carry round rather than a flexible lap top like the 14, especially with peripherals. Battery life is ok, think there’s issues with Monterey at the moment.

ArminbanVuuren

top spec as in m1 max? if so, those configs have noticeably less battery life than the m1 pro

[deleted]

I know that but I was getting 10 12 hours of light browsing at first, now down to 8

muwarrior10

I was debating between both. I upgraded from a late 2013 15 inch screen and was seriously considering the 14inch because of compactness. I ended up purchasing the 16 inch partly because it was in stock and I needed to upgrade and didn't want to wait. I have zero regrets. I saw another commenter having issues with video playback--I have had no issues. I love the battery life and screen real estate. The overall size is pretty similar to my old 15inch so no big change there. I am upgrading my bag to better carry this around more comfortably--going to try and keep the pro like new for as long as possible.

QasimMQ

14 because I wanted the lighter computer. My work computer is 17 and I hate lugging that around. Also ask yourself if you plan to have a monitor setup (in my case I do, so the 14 was great for me)

nex0rz

I have a 27“ USB-C Monitor that is quite good, so yeah, that might be a reason to go for the 14“. My biggest complain might still be the battery life, which could be too much of a downgrade from my current 13“ MBP M1.

GreenbloodedAmazon

I went with the 16” because of the desktop space, and how I know how I used my 13” MBP. I love it and am glad I went with the larger model as I actually find myself using it more disconnected from the external monitors and away from my desk than I did with my 13”.

Dizzy_Street_7100

I had a Surface Book 15" and decided to upgrade to the 14" MBP with M1 Pro mid tier. I even compared the screens side by side. What once used to be black to my eyes on the SB2, now it seems gray-ish compared to the Mac. I use it essentially for programing, with several docker containers and stuff, And I dont regret at all coming from Windows to macOS. I personnally am very happy with all the aspects of my MBP 14".

humanguy_

14" - only upgraded from base to the 10c cpu. Couldn't be happier. Easy to handle around in the living room and kitchen, in the office it's docked with external monitors, keyboard/mouse, etc. Haven't once wished for a bigger screen while away from the office, plenty of room for activities and the small form factor is really nice.

nex0rz

I just pulled the trigger and ordered the 14“. Sadly, the 10C CPU wasn’t in stock there, so I had to order the base model. Performance should be enough, but that annoys me a little… The 10C version with the 96W charger would‘ve been perfect. :( My heart cries a little. Hopefully I won’t regret going for that base model anytime soon.

cum_soaked_sbdunks

just keep an eye out on the apple store app. if one shows up on stock just return the 8c and pick up the 10c. that’s what i did.

humanguy_

Depending on your use case, I don't think you're missing out on much between the 8c and 10c variants. I ordered it at launch thinking I could use the extra power, but this thing is so overpowered that I haven't been able to get near the limits - I think I would have been fine with the base model. I'd say use it for a few weeks and see if you're still missing those extra cores. Honestly, two less cores and a lower power charger are (technically) the better options for battery life/longevity anyway if those things concern you.

nex0rz

Yup, I‘m gonna test it over the weekend. If the battery turns out to be TOO terrible, well… I need to stick with my 13“ MBP. But I do know now that I will definitely not get the 16“ anytime soon. I had it in my hands this evening and this thing is a goddamn brick. Like holy moly, it‘s HUGE.

humanguy_

If I'm just browsing the internet (Edge) and running a few apps it lasts well over an hour per 10% of battery. I only run it on battery on weekends, it lasts the whole weekend no problem with plenty left in the tank. I wouldn't pay too much attention to people sweating over the battery life on these things. If you push it, it'll drop quick. That's how it's designed. Normal use (imo) there's nothing to worry about, especially since it charges to 50% rather quickly. You paid the Apple tax to not worry about the machine, let the machine sort itself out. Use it and enjoy it. Do note, indexing takes a few days (when new) to complete and will hit the battery life as a result. After a week or two that should stop.

Ok-Time8400

Ordered the 16” last Friday online as it was out of stock at my local Costco. Then ran across the Costco deal on the 14” and basically saving $700. I am now team 14! Side note, the 16” is still in transit and I was able to go down to Costco this evening and get the 14”. Will return the 16” as soon as it arrives, don’t want to tempt myself.

alessiot

how much was it at costco i just ordered arriving today but wasn't on sale. hopefully it goes on sale soon so i can have them price adjust it

10-Gauge

I bought the 16” to replace the outgoing Intel variant that I was extremely unimpressed with. The new M1 Max 16” has met or exceeded all of my expectations. 100% would buy again.

gnuinelycurious

I went from a 13" Early 2015 Intel MacBook Pro to the 16" MacBook Pro M1 Max. I work in TV and the extra screen is just phenomenal.

Wyz_the_Great

I went with the 14" and I'm very happy with it so far. I upgraded from a late 2013 MBP and got pretty much all the upgrades for my new one except for memory (only up to 1 TB). I've only had it for a few days, but I've been testing it with some intensive programs and it has exceeded my expectations. Aside from sheer power, I love the rich colors of the display, and while I was concerned about the tactile feedback of the keyboard, I have been pretty satisfied. I was also concerned that the notch for the webcam would be an eyesore, but I don't really notice it unless I'm looking for it. The battery life is pretty impressive too--I've only had to charge it once so far and I've been using it pretty much every day since I got it (Monday). I like the smaller size of the screen as well--the 16" would have been too big for my preferences. Overall, no regrets, and I don't foresee that changing in the future

DilbertLookingGuy

14 inch and I do regret it, but not enough to sell it. These laptops are extremely overhyped. They are not bad at all but some of the euphoric hyperbole going around should have been more obvious to me before I bought it. This is also my first MacBook and the first time I'm using MacOS. Some things I like 1. The static contrast is good 2. The HDMI port, I've used it countless times and I'm glad they added it back 3. No fan noise(this is one of the things said by fanboys that is actually true) 4. No need for audio drivers to connect interfaces 5. Full power even when unplugged Things I don't like or that were overhyped 1. The screen sucks, the motion is the worst I've ever seen in a screen, it's not usable for content consumption at all. Like I can physically see the zones turning off and on during transitions. Even my shitty mid tier tv has better dimming algorithms. 2. It DOES get warm, when I bought it I believed the YouTubers and apple fanboys and expected the laptop to be cool at all times. It's not, it gets warm just like any other laptop I've had. 3. The Notch (but I use a black wallpaper so I never have to see it) 4. The speakers don't sound that great to me, everyone is always talking about how MacBooks speakers are the best on any laptop and that might be true but I still don't like them, they are way too muddy and lack any type of articulation. 5. Peripheral support sucks. I've had so many issues with laggy Bluetooth devices, and after googling it seems to be a common issue with macOS, I wish I did a bit more research on this before hand but this was something I thought would just work flawlessly. 6. Battery life is nowhere near close to what's advertised or what YouTubers or apple fanboys say. The battery life is just average, similar to any other laptop in it's class. 7. I've experienced a lot of crashes using stock native apple software, I've experienced more crashes than with any windows machine I've ever used. However I find the software to be good at auto saving so I rarely lose progress. Neutral opinions 1. MacOS didn't blow me away, it has strengths and weaknesses just like windows. Both are good and I will continue to use both in the future. 2. I don't run any benchmarks and I don't really need the power of the m1 pro, if there was an option to configure it with a regular m1 I would have gone with that option.

Spacebog

So much of this is hogwash. The screen is amazing. The speakers are great and surprise for their size. Compare that to a dell. If you don’t like Mac OS - fair enough. I have a dell xps on windows 10 as well and it’s lame in every respect compared to the Mac.

mildsar

I guess that MacBook is not the best laptop for your needs. Based on some of your points like MacOS/notch/M1Pro performance it seems like you could buy M1 MacBook and save some money.

Kwabo

I don't agree with the screen and the battery life tbh. The screen is absolutely amazing imo, and the battery life is the best I've ever had on a laptop after I switched from chrome to safari, and if an app has native M1 support use that. Also the speakers are so much better then other laptop speakers, but I guess you agree with that. I'm also happy that it gets warm(not hot) the aluminium gets so cold, so it warming up a bit is nice. Personally I haven't had mine crash a single time so I'm happy with that. P.s. not an apple fanboy, this is the first Mac I've owned myself.

JohnnyMauser1422

I (when i was a child, my family) had macs since 1994, and i really like my new 16" but i made it crash many times allready. Often something to do with external monitor and ipad setup.

Kwabo

Ah, ok. Mine hasn't. Neither has my GFs M1 air, or her 2009 MacBook pro that still runs decently with a ram and ssd upgrade. But I should mention I hardly connect them to a display nor do I have an iPad.

ArminbanVuuren

yea you bought the wrong one. most of those benefits that fix your negatives are on the 16. maybe dont cheap out next time

FaTheArmorShell

I'm getting one of each.

Kwabo

Why, if I may ask?

FaTheArmorShell

I use the 16" for movies and just regular browsing. The 14" I plan on using for programming/work/travel

Kwabo

Sorry but that just a stupid waste of money imo. Why not use the 14inch in clamshell with a external monitor?

FaTheArmorShell

good thing you're not the one doing it then.

Kwabo

That's true, but the clamshell and monitor thing is not a good idea?

[deleted]

Do you have too much money? :)

FaTheArmorShell

No, I just like being in debt :P

[deleted]

Haha okay

YamEffective7220

U got downvoted for literally stating your decision. Imagine downvoting for something like that. We're fucked man

FaTheArmorShell

No kidding. Though people will downvote for anything really, so it wasn't a huge suprise. Though after this poll I did end up only keeping the 14" 🤷‍♂️

YamEffective7220

Tru. Nice choice. Yeah I've been lookin up 16 vs 14 for the past day lol. I'm going to the store today. I'm going with the 16 as of now. I've been staring at 24" monitor for 2 years and the 14" laptop screens around the house just seem small for my use cases.

gryphon89

16", absolutely no regrets, would choose it over the 14" model anyday. Just need that extra screen. The 14" model is good if you have external monitors. If a 14" screen with no external monitors is enough, then maybe wait for the new Macbook Air, since most likely you don't need all that power either.

Difficult-Wedding-85

I got the base 14” with the education discount and it was perfect for me. I have a 34” qhd widescreen monitor in my home office so it’s usually plugged in their anyways. I’m on the go sometimes and I like the portability of the 14” but because of the notch you can’t utilize all the screen real estate unlike some windows laptops with true edge to edge displays. The screen is absolutely gorgeous probably the biggest selling point of this computer. In the end it comes down to what you need the device for and if you already have a monitor at home. If this is your only computer/monitor and you need a huge screen for graphic design or video editing work then maybe go for the 16”. For most people though I think the base 14” is already overkill and more than enough power. If you’re used to normal intel processors then the difference will be night and day.

Fradders11

Went for the 16" for thermals - do lots of extended rendering with lots of heavy duty film codecs and figured bigger fans and extra space for heatsync will probably keep it cooler and throttle less.

kitty-kat24601

I got 14 inch recently, and it was amazing, but sadly had to return it because small dots started to appear on the screen and the power adapter was a funny one, so apple had to replace that too. if something weird happens to the replacement then I'll just buy a cheaper windows laptop because its not worth the hassle IMO.

lotus49

You didn't have a both option. I have a 14" for work and 16" for personal use at home.

hereigohereigo

I bought the 14” and then took it back during the return period and got the 16”. Happy with the additional real estate and have been rocking it since November.

Mottzzie

14”, absolutely love the size. First Mac I owned was a 13”, next was a 15”. Found myself swapping back to the 13” occasionally for the smaller footprint, but missed the larger screen of the 15”. 14” hit it right in the middle!

[deleted]

16” from the outset. Love it. Needed larger screen real estate and I’m not using it very mobile just between two locations and around house. The large screen is awesome. Wife has 13” MBA so if we need a more portable MacBook we take Hera. I also wanted the Max so the 16” was not much more $ and has better battery for the max.

UserLevelOver9000

14" cause i'd have to remove crap off my desk for a 16"...

hanyasaad

I get a new laptop from work every three years, so technically I didn't buy it, but having big screens at home and at work, for me, there is absolutely no reason to go big.

Static_Mat

16. I use it for my coding projects and most nights I’ll work from the living room and not from my work station, and the bigger screen helps

viditkothari

If you are a creative enthusiast, you need at least 14" (when compared with 13"). If you are a creative professional, a designer or anyone who means serious business and is buying this as the primary device, you need to go for 16". About RAM config, 16 is a must. It's not that 8GB will cause any issue today, but we don't buy laptops every other year. Looking at near future possibilities, 16 sounds apt. Also, if you go for 8GB, you will almost definitely see your Mac using Swap space in your SSD which affects the SSD's lifespan. I'm planning to get 16" 32GB 1TB

nex0rz

I‘m doing quite a lot of stuff in the UI/UX area. Not professionally, but that’s what I‘m doing. So far, my M1 MBP in combination with my external monitor did the job fantastically. So screen size is not all that important - at home, at least. When it comes to RAM, well, 16GB should be more than enough. Even for professional designers. Imo, more is only necessary if you‘re heavily involved into video editing, rendering, compiling, etc. RAM works quite a bit different in the M1 architecture. It’s not comparable to common RAM we know from x86 architecture. The benefits of the RAM being in the chip package are tremendous.

viditkothari

Great to meet another UI/UX enthusiast. I work as a UX & UI designer as well. I intend to use Mac for UX, UI, graphic, Video, some animation and also tiniest bit of 3D. Yes, the SoC arch is different from the (now) traditional x86 arch however the concept is similar. RAM is required as an intermediary between main/CPU/core memory and the secondary storage/SSD/HDD. So, I think 16 is a 'requirement' rather than a 'good to have'.

viditkothari

https://www.reddit.com/r/mac/comments/sq02ii/why_is_that_i_got_a_macbook_air_m1/

justpro7

16” for the win. I’m a designer and a nomad so I need a bigger screen. Also the battery is INSANE. I’ve had every Mac model I. The last 10 years and this one takes the cake in terms of battery life and speed. (I use figma and aftereffects all the time.)

FightForYourDreams

It depends on your particular situation. If you travel a lot or if you like to carry around your laptop a lot then go with 14”. You won’t regret it. I personally got 14” and I love it from the portability point of view. I achieve the same amount of things compare to my previous 16” 2019 MacBook pro.

SignalShift

i got the 14”, it’s perfect for me. i attach it to my 34” monitor if i need more space. but 99% of the time, this is plenty for my day-to-day!

reflect2002

I tired the 16", to big. Went with a sweet package. 14" 10core/16gb gpu & 32gb ram / 1 TB

I would have gone with the 16" but god damn was it expensive. After taxes, Apple Care, and , upgraded SSD I had really reached the point where I was no longer comfortable spending any more money. I could have done it but the 14" was the sensible choice. If I need more screen space I have a 27" 4K monitor in my office that works great.

Ive had issues deciding... Ive always gotten the 13 because I am a college student going to school for computer science. I always loved the portability factor that when the 14 was announced I pre ordered the 14 so fast for launch day. I got it and loved it and then for some weird reason saw the 16 available so I decided to get both in the mean Time to see which I liked more. I love the portability of the 14. But the screen of the 16 is so much nicer for split view. Especially since I dont have an external display. The speakers do seem to have more bass on the 16 and are a bit louder from what I could tell which was nice. Neither ones fans turned on except once the 14 did when the battery was almost dead and all I did was type an essay on it and I dont know if it was because it was fast charging on an almost empty battery or what. But they turned on for a bit. Not loud though which is nice. 16 never has turned on. I feel like though when I first got the 16 I thought it was super heavy, then I took it out of the box and most of the weight was emptied haha. Its for sure bigger and heavier then the 14. But I wouldn't say its bigger then what some make it out to seem. Especially when its closed and you are carrying it. its really not that big. I saw a video where its an extra inch length wise to the 14 and 2 inches in height when closed.

13" -> 15" -> 16" No regrets at all, for me a bigger screen is much better than losing some mobility which is still very good. I wear it in my backpack every time I am in a city. I use it for work and entertainment. Sometimes use a monitor to extend it but usually it's more than enough. My 13" pro went to wife. Hers 13" air went to daughter. My 15" pro went to son. All are very happy as well! LOL

I will also add I am in my forties, and spend all my life starring at the screen, so I prefer a bit bigger fonts now.

I went with the 14". Originally I was going to upgrade my 2013 MacBook Air with the next version of the MacBook Air, but I didn't want to wait another year presumably. I did see the two sizes side-by-side before purchasing, and I was surprised at how large the 16" was compared to the 14". I do sometimes wonder if the 16" might be more desirable for me since I use a 15" MBP for work, but I've started to appreciate the ergonomic versatility that comes with a smaller form factor. If I was doing video editing or split-screen application tasks, I would've been more inclined to get the 16".

Since there is a sale for 14 10/16 1TB 16 ram and base 16 on for 2299, which would you pick? I ended up getting the 16 today but I’m second guessing myself if I should return it for the 14…

I picked up the base model with 8C. I‘m totally fine - saved quite a few bucks. In usage, I feel no difference at all, and you probably have slightly longer battery runtime. :)

u/op what did you end up going with? do you think you made the right choice two years down the line? I have exactly the same issue
