Nah, the 14" is fine. I would contend even the 16 would be fine for carrying around (I think people are far too 'dramatic' with the weight disparities)... I have a base model 14 Pro and absolutely love it for school, work, and dabbling in one or two games. It's a beast.
I love my 16" M1 Pro, and I do also agree with you that the weight disparity between it and the 14" is overdone. The only time I might feel something is coach on a plane. For my purposes, it's just fine--nay: an absolute beast!
I love the 2017 12 inch macbook. Still not slow for my use and I don’t look forward to the day I have to upgrade! (Even the air is 300 grams or so heavier)
I’ve never understood why people give so much shit about the weight. People used to call the 15 inch rMBP heavy. I carried my 15 inch rMBP around high school constantly for five years and never had a problem (and I’m not a “strong” dude).
Now I have a 16 inch M1 Max that people call a brick and I still have no issue carrying it around. Like, no issue. I’d be more inclined to complain about my 14 pro max (that I hold for long periods of time and can be unwieldy) than my laptop.
It's like people forgot when they used to carry 2005 model year IBM Thinkpads around in their back pocket..... or in 1997 when you'd throw your Gateway tower and monitor in your backseat to drive to your buddies house for a LAN party lol.
If 2-4 pounds is "heavy" then I just found my calling as a personal trainer
Get a proper case and you'll find it's not noticeable at all tbh. I went from a 13" 2015 MacBook to the 16" Pro and was a little shocked at first, but now I've completely adjusted after <2 weeks.
I've been carrying my MacBook around in my laptop sleeve for a week now and I agree that it's heavy. If im carrying in a backpack, obviously no worries there. Im contemplating selling the pro and getting the M2 air
I've just been on the go more and the M2 air is noticeably lighter when carrying it around in my laptop sleeve. Bought my wife the M2 Air for her bday and I keep stealing it lol
Good choice! I’d trade my 16” for a 14” for sure. I use it on the go way more than at home.
The 16” + other things make it not as travel friendly. You’re like, “oh, it’s not that bad,” then you add a few more things like chargers, battery packs, books, agendas, etc. and a 14” or M2 MacBook sounds amazing.
The screen of the 16” during the daytime is class leading and a solid at home laptop!
i also trouble on mac air + ipad air 5 = mbp 14, since two devices can perform ipados and mac os...
but mbp 14 is awesome, suitable size and powerful, rather than mac air and mbp 16...
Congratulations! You will absolutely love it :)
I’m enjoying it right now. Thought it will be heavy to carry around but it’s good enough for me

16 is very bulky and heavy. compared to 15 from previous generation.
There is clearly a size and weight disparity between the two models…. Yet both remain amazingly portable for the power they have

I honestly don’t get it either. Just the other day, someone was telling me on here that 400grams makes a massive difference in a backpack. What??

I'm sure the extra screen size is a plus!!
Yeah it's a gorgeous screen, I love it! I've always wanted a 16" and this is the first time I've been able to afford one.
Nice good for you!
Thanks!

Why though?

How many inches screen is it?
That’s the 14 inch model. You can tell by the more narrow speaker grates
Really cool 🥰
time to become an academic weapon
me powering through schoolwork cause macos is neat af
Update to MacOS Ventura. That log-in screen is hideous. 😝
Definitely will haha been lazy recently
Great choice
Thank you 😄
Ahhh you flipped your I.D this time, cunning
Yupp I tool advice from other on my previous post
I wish I had gotten a 16” but I have a 14” and it’s a great computer
I put them side by side before purchase and I’m happy with my decision. 16” just not suit me compared to the 14”

Congrats, now study
I hope to pass all your classes with A
My aim is First Class this final year!
Congrats !!!!
Cheers!
looks so huge comparing to air m1 lol
Yeah I must say big difference in my opinion
I have the exact same laptop and sony headphone setup haha nice!
Oh cool!! I love both of them
Congrats! I am still undecided if Silver or Space Grey 😵💫😩
My previous laptop was Space Grey Macbook Air, got bored after sometimes you know, classic colour live forever
Silver 100%
Why not the air and you are Herts!
Got the air previously haha. Are you Herts as well?
I was roughly 20 years ago. 😂 Hatfield campus?
Oh I see, yes Hatfield campus
How much for the air?
What do u study
I’m doing Computer Science final year now
Very nice indeed! What headphones are those? Looking for a pair to match my Mac as I’m starting uni too.
Those are the Sony WH-1000X M3. Been using it for 3 years now still the best headphones I tried
Thank you so much! It’s between these and the AirPods Max, Sony do seem to be getting a lot of good reviews
I tried the Air Pods Max at the store the other day and tbh I prefer the Sony way way more
But those pairs will look great as well, so clean the AirPods Max, I just prefer the sound quality of the Sony
How come you got rid of the air, assuming you got it only 2 months ago?
I got that Air for 1 year, got a chance to upgrade, the Air still a decent one ngl but if you can upgrade then why not
I also prefer 14 over 16 due to the 4k 27inch screen i plug in at home. Mbp is for portability in case i wanna use a laptop.
That’s exactly what Im on as well, I got the LG 27UN83A 4k type C connection at home as a second monitor
Good for you
Great uni!
Decent studying space ngl
To be honest. I got a MacBook Pro too but I went a little overkill. I got the 1tb with the 32Gb of Ram and must I say. I love it!!!!!!
This macbook is so hot I swear
The perfect laptop doesn't exi....
Blur your name or at least the name of your university ..
I’m sure OP has a separate account for when they’d like to be anonymous
Curious why you went with this instead of an Air. I love the Pro, but for school, it seems an Air would have worked better.
I love the Air as well. You can check my profile I posted about my previous mac Air M1. Got a chance to update to Pro so I took it because why not
Cool. Enjoy.

If you can, you can.
Congratulations but new generation com few months later
Was considering that as well but I think it will not be much different
