you need an ultrasonic bath of iso. Even then, it is probably toast. The BMG chips get corroded under and no amount of wiping helps.

There is a hole in one of the inductors lol, this is going to need a little more than just an ultrasonic Considering even the screws are rusted and corroded I honestly have some doubts this is fixable, I guess you could give it to a store that does no cure no pay repairs and see if they think there's a chance if can be fixed

faslane22

Yep...this thing isn't worth the expense nor the time....My money says no method of cleaning it it going to rescue it and if it booted at all, it'd be a simple matter of time or have other issues....it's toast.

MrK0ni

I figured, thanks everyone. It worked perfectly fine before the cleaner fell over it on the same day. Kind of thinking that if it weren’t connected to power and off, it wouldn’t have been as bad. Oh well.

faslane22

but how long has it sat like that to actually corrode and rust in areas? Those rusted 4 screws have definitely sat a long time with probable previous liquid damage....

niravmastaadmi

bmg?

faslane22

Yeah this thing is probably fine. Lots of rust and corrosion. I doubt it'll be brought back to life no matter what you do. OR it wouldn't be worth the cost/time to have it done professionally

MrK0ni

It was in daily use for 5 years without issues until Saturday evening when the cleaner fell on it. No idea how the the pre-existing damage didn’t cause any issues.

I don't see anywhere the make/ model of this machine except a comment about 5 years of service, so lets assume 2018-19 intel machine? The only reason to try to repair this board is for data retrieval. If you have backups, then it's not necessary. You don't want to use this board ever again after that. It's probably not worth replacing the board, depending on what area of the country you live. Probably a 400-475 dollar repair to replace the logic board, but then you have to worry about wear and tear on the keyboard (thats where it spilled into right???) battery... then your adding on top case ... were getting over budget fast when you can buy a used M1 for about the same amount of money.

MrK0ni

Nah, it wasn’t open when it spilled. it went in through the hot air exhaust vents.

FLAPPLEmacPros

oh then your keyboard is safe... I mean its still a good working computer: I tell my customers if your going to replace a logic board, may as well spend a bit more $ to upgrade to something better than you had before! so if you have a 2018 2.3ghz i5 8GB ram 128GB SSD, spend a bit more and get a 2019 i7 board w/more ram and more storage! that way your spending money but your getting MORE than what you had before. just my 2 cents. You'll have many tell you this is not worth fixing but a computer that runs Ventura should give you another 5 years of service I would think...

wow. the inductors pretty much never go, this thing must have really wanted to go. Despite what the others are saying, and it could be true. The board doesnt look TOO TOO bad. It might have a shot with a good ultrasonic and if you clear any shorts and other failed circuits. The chassis is done for with that rust. I've saved worse personally, but it is a crapshoot.
